Heureux l'homme qui ne marche pas selon le conseil des méchants, et qui ne se tient pas dans la voie des pécheurs, et qui ne s'assied pas au banc des moqueurs;

Blessed [0835] [is] the man [0376] that walketh [1980] not in the counsel [6098] of the ungodly, [7563] nor standeth [5975] in the way [1870] of sinners, [2400] nor sitteth [3427] in the seat [4186] of the scornful. [3887]

Mais qui prend son plaisir dans la loi de YEHOVAH, et médite sa loi jour et nuit.

But his delight [2656] [is] in the law [8451] of the LORD; [3068] and in his law [8451] doth he meditate [1897] day [3119] and night. [3915]

Il sera comme un arbre planté près des eaux courantes, qui rend son fruit dans sa saison et dont le feuillage ne se flétrit point; et ainsi tout ce qu'il fera, prospérera.

And he shall be like a tree [6086] planted [8362] by the rivers [6388] of water, [4325] that bringeth forth [5414] his fruit [6529] in his season; [6256] his leaf [5929] also shall not wither; [5034] and whatsoever he doeth [6213] shall prosper. [6743]

Il n'en sera pas ainsi des méchants; mais ils seront comme la paille que le vent chasse au loin.

The ungodly [7563] [are] not so: but [are] like the chaff [4671] which the wind [7307] driveth away. [5086]

C'est pourquoi les méchants ne subsisteront pas dans le jugement, ni les pécheurs dans l'assemblée des justes.

Therefore the ungodly [7563] shall not stand [6965] in the judgment, [4941] nor sinners [2400] in the congregation [5712] of the righteous. [6662]

Car YEHOVAH connaît la voie des justes, mais la voie des méchants périra.

For the LORD [3068] knoweth [3045] the way [1870] of the righteous: [6662] but the way [1870] of the ungodly [7563] shall perish. [0006]

Pourquoi ce tumulte parmi les nations? Et pourquoi les peuples projettent-ils des choses vaines?

Why do the heathen [1471] rage, [7283] and the people [3816] imagine [1897] a vain thing? [7385]

Les rois de la terre se sont levés, et les princes se sont consultés ensemble contre YEHOVAH et contre son Oint.

The kings [4428] of the earth [0776] set [3320] themselves, and the rulers [7336] take counsel [3245] together, [3162] against the LORD, [3068] and against his anointed, [4899] [saying],

Rompons leurs liens, disent-ils, et jetons loin de nous leurs cordes!

Let us break [5423] their bands [4147] asunder, and cast away [7993] their cords [5688] from us.

Celui qui est assis dans les cieux s'en rira; le Seigneur se moquera d'eux.

He that sitteth [3427] in the heavens [8064] shall laugh: [7832] the Lord [0136] shall have them in derision. [3932]

Alors il leur parlera dans sa colère; il les remplira de terreur par la grandeur de sa fureur.

Then shall he speak [1696] unto them in his wrath, [0639] and vex [0926] them in his sore displeasure. [2740]

Toutefois, j'ai oint mon Roi, sur Sion, ma montagne sainte.

Yet have I set [5258] my king [4428] upon my holy [6944] hill [2022] of Zion. [6726]

Je publierai le décret de YEHOVAH; il m'a dit: Tu es mon Fils; aujourd'hui je t'ai engendré.

I will declare [5608] the decree: [2706] the LORD [3068] hath said [0559] unto me, Thou [art] my Son; [1121] this day [3117] have I begotten [3205] thee.

Demande-moi, et je te donnerai les nations pour héritage, et pour possession les extrémités de la terre.

Ask [7592] of me, and I shall give [5414] [thee] the heathen [1471] [for] thine inheritance, [5159] and the uttermost parts [0657] of the earth [0776] [for] thy possession. [0272]

Tu les briseras avec un sceptre de fer, tu les mettras en pièces comme un vase de potier.

Thou shalt break [7489] them with a rod [7626] of iron; [1270] thou shalt dash them in pieces [5310] like a potter's [3335] vessel. [3627]

Maintenant donc, ô rois, ayez de l'intelligence; recevez instruction, juges de la terre.

Be wise [7919] now therefore, O ye kings: [4428] be instructed, [3256] ye judges [8199] of the earth. [0776]

Servez YEHOVAH avec crainte, et réjouissez-vous avec tremblement.

Serve [5647] the LORD [3068] with fear, [3374] and rejoice [1523] with trembling. [7461]

Baisez le Fils, de peur qu'il ne s'irrite, et que vous ne périssiez dans votre voie, quand sa colère s'enflammera tout à coup. Heureux tous ceux qui se confient en lui!

Kiss [5401] the Son, [1248] lest he be angry, [0599] and ye perish [0006] [from] the way, [1870] when his wrath [0639] is kindled [1197] but a little. [4592] Blessed [0835] [are] all they that put their trust [2620] in him.

Pourquoi, ô YEHOVAH, te tiens-tu loin, et te caches-tu au temps de la détresse?

Why standest [5975] thou afar off, [7350] O LORD? [3068] [why] hidest [5956] thou [thyself] in times [6256] of trouble? [6869]

Par l'orgueil du méchant, l'affligé est consumé. Ils seront pris dans les artifices qu'ils ont prémédités.

The wicked [7563] in [his] pride [1346] doth persecute [1814] the poor: [6041] let them be taken [8610] in the devices [4209] that [2098] they have imagined. [2803]

Car le méchant se glorifie du désir de son âme; le ravisseur blasphème contre YEHOVAH, et l'outrage.

For the wicked [7563] boasteth [1984] of his heart's [5315] desire, [8378] and blesseth [1288] the covetous, [1214] [whom] the LORD [3068] abhorreth. [5006]

Le méchant dit avec arrogance: Il ne fera point d'enquête! Toutes ses pensées sont qu'il n'y a point de Dieu.

The wicked, [7563] through the pride [1363] of his countenance, [0639] will not seek [1875] [after God]: God [0430] [is] not in all his thoughts. [4209]

Ses voies prospèrent en tout temps; tes jugements sont loin de sa vue; il souffle contre tous ses ennemis.

His ways [1870] are always [6256] grievous; [2342] thy judgments [4941] [are] far above [4791] out of his sight: [as for] all his enemies, [6887] he puffeth [6315] at them.

Il dit en son cœur: Je ne serai point ébranlé, jamais il ne m'arrivera de mal.

He hath said [0559] in his heart, [3820] I shall not be moved: [4131] for [I shall] never [1755] [1755] [be] in adversity. [7451]

Sa bouche est pleine de malédiction, de fraude et de violence; sous sa langue il n'y a que tourment et qu'outrage.

His mouth [6310] is full [4390] of cursing [0423] and deceit [4820] and fraud: [8496] under his tongue [3956] [is] mischief [5999] and vanity. [0205]

Il se tient aux aguets près des villages; il tue l'innocent dans les lieux écartés; ses yeux épient le malheureux.

He sitteth [3427] in the lurking places [3993] of the villages: [2691] in the secret places [4565] doth he murder [2026] the innocent: [5355] his eyes [5869] are privily set [6845] against the poor. [2489]

Il s'embusque dans les lieux cachés, comme un lion dans son repaire; il se tient aux aguets pour surprendre le faible; il surprend le faible, en l'attirant dans son filet.

He lieth in wait [0693] secretly [4565] as a lion [0738] in his den: [5520] he lieth in wait [0693] to catch [2414] the poor: [6041] he doth catch [2414] the poor, [6041] when he draweth [4900] him into his net. [7568]

Il se couche, il se baisse, et les malheureux tombent en sa puissance.

He croucheth, [1794] [and] humbleth [7817] himself, that the poor [2489] [2426][2489] may fall [5307] by his strong ones. [6099]

Il dit en son cœur: Dieu oublie, il a caché sa face, il ne le verra jamais.

He hath said [0559] in his heart, [3820] God [0410] hath forgotten: [7911] he hideth [5641] his face; [6440] he will never [1077] [5331] see [7200] [it].

Lève-toi, YEHOVAH! Ô Dieu, lève ta main, n'oublie point les affligés!

Arise, [6965] O LORD; [3068] O God, [0410] lift up [5375] thine hand: [3027] forget [7911] not the humble. [6035] [6041]

Pourquoi le méchant outrage-t-il Dieu, et dit-il en son cœur que tu n'en feras point d'enquête?

Wherefore doth the wicked [7563] contemn [5006] God? [0430] he hath said [0559] in his heart, [3820] Thou wilt not require [1875] [it].

Tu l'as vu! Car tu regardes le tourment et la peine, pour en tenir compte; c'est sur toi que se repose le malheureux, tu es le secours de l'orphelin.

Thou hast seen [7200] [it]; for thou beholdest [5027] mischief [5999] and spite, [3708] to requite [5414] [it] with thy hand: [3027] the poor [2489] committeth [5800] himself unto thee; thou art the helper [5826] of the fatherless. [3490]

Romps le bras du méchant, et recherche la méchanceté de l'injuste, jusqu'à ce que tu ne la trouves plus.

Break [7665] thou the arm [2220] of the wicked [7563] and the evil [7451] [man]: seek out [1875] his wickedness [7562] [till] thou find [4672] none. [1077]

YEHOVAH est Roi à toujours et à perpétuité; les nations ont disparu de dessus sa terre.

The LORD [3068] [is] King [4428] for ever [5769] and ever: [5703] the heathen [1471] are perished [0006] out of his land. [0776]

YEHOVAH, tu entends le souhait des affligés; affermis leurs cœurs, prête-leur une oreille attentive,

LORD, [3068] thou hast heard [8085] the desire [8378] of the humble: [6035] thou wilt prepare [3559] their heart, [3820] thou wilt cause thine ear [0241] to hear: [7181]

Pour faire droit à l'orphelin et à l'opprimé; afin que sur la terre l'homme ne continue plus à répandre l'oppression.

To judge [8199] the fatherless [3490] and the oppressed, [1790] that the man [0582] of the earth [0776] may no more [3254] oppress. [6206]

Justes, réjouissez-vous en YEHOVAH! La louange convient aux hommes droits.

Rejoice [7442] in the LORD, [3068] O ye righteous: [6662] [for] praise [8416] is comely [5000] for the upright. [3477]

Célébrez YEHOVAH avec la harpe; chantez-lui des cantiques sur la lyre à dix cordes!

Praise [3034] the LORD [3068] with harp: [3658] sing [2167] unto him with the psaltery [5035] [and] an instrument of ten [6218] strings.

Chantez-lui un cantique nouveau; faites retentir vos instruments et vos voix!

Sing [7891] unto him a new [2319] song; [7892] play [5059] skilfully [3190] with a loud noise. [8643]

Car la Parole de YEHOVAH est droite, et toute son œuvre est faite avec fidélité.

For the word [1697] of the LORD [3068] [is] right; [3477] and all his works [4639] [are done] in truth. [0530]

Il aime la justice et l'équité; la terre est pleine de la bonté de YEHOVAH.

He loveth [0157] righteousness [6666] and judgment: [4941] the earth [0776] is full [4390] of the goodness [2617] of the LORD. [3068]

Les cieux ont été faits par la Parole de YEHOVAH, et toute leur armée par le Souffle de sa bouche.

By the word [1697] of the LORD [3068] were the heavens [8064] made; [6213] and all the host [6635] of them by the breath [7307] of his mouth. [6310]

Il amasse les eaux de la mer comme en un monceau; il met les flots dans des réservoirs.

He gathereth [3664] the waters [4325] of the sea [3220] together as an heap: [5067] he layeth up [5414] the depth [8415] in storehouses. [0214]

Que toute la terre craigne YEHOVAH; que tous les habitants du monde le redoutent!

Let all the earth [0776] fear [3372] the LORD: [3068] let all the inhabitants [3427] of the world [8398] stand in awe [1481] of him.

Car il parle, et la chose existe; il commande, et elle paraît.

For he spake, [0559] and it was [done]; he commanded, [6680] and it stood fast. [5975]

YEHOVAH dissipe le conseil des nations, il met à néant le dessein des peuples.

The LORD [3068] bringeth the counsel [6098] of the heathen [1471] to nought: [6331] he maketh the devices [4284] of the people [5971] of none effect. [5106]

Mais le conseil de YEHOVAH subsiste à toujours; les desseins de son cœur durent d'âge en âge.

The counsel [6098] of the LORD [3068] standeth [5975] for ever, [5769] the thoughts [4284] of his heart [3820] to all [1755] generations. [1755]

Heureuse la nation dont YEHOVAH est le Dieu, le peuple qu'il s'est choisi pour héritage!

Blessed [0835] [is] the nation [1471] whose God [0430] [is] the LORD; [3068] [and] the people [5971] [whom] he hath chosen [0977] for his own inheritance. [5159]

YEHOVAH regarde des cieux; il voit tous les enfants des hommes.

The LORD [3068] looketh [5027] from heaven; [8064] he beholdeth [7200] all the sons [1121] of men. [0120]

Du lieu de sa demeure, il observe tous les habitants de la terre.

From the place [4349] of his habitation [3427] he looketh [7688] upon all the inhabitants [3427] of the earth. [0776]

Il a formé leur cœur à tous, il prend garde à toutes leurs actions.

He fashioneth [3335] their hearts [3820] alike; [3162] he considereth [0995] all their works. [4639]

Le roi n'est pas sauvé par sa grande puissance, et l'homme vaillant n'est pas délivré par sa grande force.

There is no king [4428] saved [3467] by the multitude [7230] of an host: [2428] a mighty man [1368] is not delivered [5337] by much [7230] strength. [3581]

Le cheval manque à sauver, et il ne délivre point par la grandeur de sa force.

An horse [5483] [is] a vain thing [8267] for safety: [8668] neither shall he deliver [4422] [any] by his great [7230] strength. [2428]

Voici, l'œil de YEHOVAH est sur ceux qui le craignent, sur ceux qui s'attendent à sa bonté,

Behold, the eye [5869] of the LORD [3068] [is] upon them that fear [3373] him, upon them that hope [3176] in his mercy; [2617]

Pour délivrer leur âme de la mort, et pour les faire vivre durant la famine.

To deliver [5337] their soul [5315] from death, [4194] and to keep them alive [2421] in famine. [7458]

Notre âme s'attend à YEHOVAH; il est notre aide et notre bouclier.

Our soul [5315] waiteth [2442] for the LORD: [3068] he [is] our help [5828] and our shield. [4043]

Car notre cœur se réjouit en lui; car nous nous confions en son saint nom.

For our heart [3820] shall rejoice [8055] in him, because we have trusted [0982] in his holy [6944] name. [8034]

Que ta bonté soit sur nous, ô YEHOVAH! comme nous nous attendons à toi.

Let thy mercy, [2617] O LORD, [3068] be upon us, according as we hope [3176] in thee.

Fais-moi justice, ô Dieu, et défends ma cause contre une nation infidèle! Délivre-moi de l'homme trompeur et pervers!

Car tu es le Dieu de ma force. Pourquoi m'as-tu rejeté? Pourquoi marcherai-je en deuil, sous l'oppression de l'ennemi?

For thou [art] the God [0430] of my strength: [4581] why dost thou cast me off? [2186] why go [1980] I mourning [6937] because of the oppression [3906] of the enemy? [0341]

Envoie ta lumière et ta vérité; qu'elles me conduisent, qu'elles m'amènent sur ta montagne sainte, vers tes tabernacles!

O send out [7971] thy light [0216] and thy truth: [0571] let them lead [5148] me; let them bring [0935] me unto thy holy [6944] hill, [2022] and to thy tabernacles. [4908]

Et j'entrerai vers l'autel de Dieu, vers Dieu, ma joie et mon allégresse; et je te louerai avec la harpe, ô Dieu, mon Dieu!

Then will I go [0935] unto the altar [4196] of God, [0430] unto God [0410] my exceeding [8057] joy: [1524] yea, upon the harp [3658] will I praise [3034] thee, O God [0430] my God. [0430]

Pourquoi t'abats-tu, mon âme, et pourquoi frémis-tu en moi? Attends-toi à Dieu, car je le louerai encore; il est mon salut et mon Dieu!

Why art thou cast down, [7817] O my soul? [5315] and why art thou disquieted [1993] within me? hope [3176] in God: [0430] for I shall yet praise [3034] him, [who is] the health [3444] of my countenance, [6440] and my God. [0430]

Délivre-moi par ta justice et fais moi échapper; incline ton oreille vers moi et sauve-moi!

Sois pour moi un rocher de retraite, où je puisse toujours me retirer; tu as ordonné que je sois sauvé; car tu es mon rocher et ma forteresse.

Mon Dieu, délivre-moi de la main du méchant, de la main du pervers et de l'oppresseur.

Deliver [6403] me, O my God, [0430] out of the hand [3027] of the wicked, [7563] out of the hand [3709] of the unrighteous [5765] and cruel man. [2556]

Car tu es mon attente, Seigneur YEHOVAH, ma confiance dès ma jeunesse.

For thou [art] my hope, [8615] O Lord [0136] GOD: [3069] [thou art] my trust [4009] from my youth. [5271]

Je me suis appuyé sur toi dès ma naissance; c'est toi qui m'as tiré du sein de ma mère; tu es ma louange en tout temps.

By thee have I been holden up [5564] from the womb: [0990] thou art he that took [1491] me out of my mother's [0517] bowels: [4578] my praise [8416] [shall be] continually [8548] of thee.

J'ai été comme un monstre aux yeux de plusieurs; mais toi, tu es ma forte retraite.

I am as a wonder [4159] unto many; [7227] but thou [art] my strong [5797] refuge. [4268]

Que ma bouche soit pleine de ta louange et de ta gloire chaque jour!

Let my mouth [6310] be filled [4390] [with] thy praise [8416] [and with] thy honour [8597] all the day. [3117]

Ne me rejette pas au temps de la vieillesse; quand ma force s'en va, ne m'abandonne pas!

Tu ne craindras pas les terreurs de la nuit, ni la flèche qui vole de jour,

Ni la mortalité qui marche dans les ténèbres, ni la destruction qui ravage en plein midi.

Qu'il en tombe mille à ton côté et dix mille à ta droite, elle n'approchera point de toi.

Seulement tu considéreras de tes yeux et tu verras la condamnation des méchants.

Car tu as fait de YEHOVAH, le Très-Haut qui est mon refuge, ton habitation.

Aucun mal ne t'atteindra, aucune plaie n'approchera de ta tente.

Puisqu'il m'aime avec affection, dit le Seigneur, je le délivrerai; je le mettrai en sûreté, car il connaît mon nom.

Il m'invoquera et je l'exaucerai; je serai avec lui dans la détresse; je l'en retirerai et le glorifierai.

Je le rassasierai de longs jours, et je lui ferai voir ma délivrance.

Jusqu'à quand tous les ouvriers d'iniquité se répandront-ils en discours insolents et se glorifieront-ils?

YEHOVAH, ils écrasent ton peuple, et ils oppriment ton héritage.

Prenez garde, vous les plus stupides du peuple! Insensés, quand serez-vous intelligents?

Understand, [0995] ye brutish [1197] among the people: [5971] and [ye] fools, [3684] when will ye be wise? [7919]

Celui qui plante l'oreille n'entendra-t-il pas? Celui qui forme l'œil ne verra-t-il pas?

He that planted [5193] the ear, [0241] shall he not hear? [8085] he that formed [3335] the eye, [5869] shall he not see? [5027]

Celui qui châtie les nations, ne punira-t-il pas, lui qui enseigne aux hommes la science?

YEHOVAH connaît que les pensées de l'homme ne sont que vanité.

Heureux l'homme que tu châties, ô YEHOVAH, et que tu instruis par ta loi,

Pour le mettre à l'abri des jours d'adversité, jusqu'à ce que la fosse soit creusée pour le méchant.

Car YEHOVAH ne délaisse point son peuple et n'abandonne point son héritage.

Car le jugement sera conforme à la justice; et tous ceux qui sont droits de cœur le suivront.

Si YEHOVAH n'eût été mon secours, bientôt mon âme eût habité le lieu du silence.

Ils s'assemblent contre l'âme du juste et condamnent le sang innocent.

They gather themselves together [1413] against the soul [5315] of the righteous, [6662] and condemn [7561] the innocent [5355] blood. [1818]

Mais YEHOVAH est ma haute retraite; mon Dieu est le rocher de mon refuge.

But the LORD [3068] is my defence; [4869] and my God [0430] [is] the rock [6697] of my refuge. [4268]

Il fera retomber sur eux leur iniquité, et les détruira par leur propre méchanceté; YEHOVAH notre Dieu les détruira.

Car YEHOVAH est un Dieu grand, il est un grand Roi au-dessus de tous les dieux.

C'est en sa main que sont les abîmes de la terre; à lui sont les sommets des montagnes.

J'aurai les yeux sur les fidèles du pays, afin qu'ils demeurent avec moi; celui qui marche dans l'intégrité, me servira.

Celui qui use de tromperie, n'habitera point dans ma maison; celui qui profère le mensonge, ne subsistera pas devant mes yeux.

Chaque matin je retrancherai tous les méchants du pays, pour exterminer de la cité de YEHOVAH tous les ouvriers d'iniquité.

Il fait des vents ses messagers, des flammes de feu ses serviteurs.

Les montagnes s'élevèrent, les vallées s'abaissèrent au lieu que tu leur avais assigné.

Tu as fixé pour les eaux une borne qu'elles ne passeront pas; elles ne reviendront pas couvrir la terre.

Il envoie des sources dans les vallées, et elles courent entre les montagnes.

Elles abreuvent toutes les bêtes des champs; les ânes sauvages y étanchent leur soif.

De sa haute demeure, il abreuve les montagnes; la terre est rassasiée du fruit de tes œuvres.

Il fait germer le foin pour le bétail et l'herbe pour le service de l'homme, faisant sortir la nourriture de la terre;

Et le vin qui réjouit le cœur de l'homme et fait resplendir son visage plus que l'huile; et le pain qui soutient le cœur de l'homme.

Les arbres de YEHOVAH sont rassasiés, les cèdres du Liban qu'il a plantés.

C'est là que les oiseaux font leurs nids; les cyprès sont la demeure de la cigogne;

Where the birds [6833] make their nests: [7077] [as for] the stork, [2624] the fir trees [1265] [are] her house. [1004]

Les hautes montagnes sont pour les bouquetins; les rochers sont la retraite des lapins.

The high [1364] hills [2022] [are] a refuge [4268] for the wild goats; [3277] [and] the rocks [5553] for the conies. [8227]

Il a fait la lune pour marquer les temps; le soleil connaît son coucher.

Tu amènes les ténèbres, et la nuit vient, où toutes les bêtes des forêts se promènent.

Les lionceaux rugissent après la proie, et pour demander à Dieu leur pâture.

Le soleil se lève; ils se retirent, et se couchent dans leurs tanières.

Alors l'homme sort à son ouvrage, et à son travail jusqu'au soir.

Ô YEHOVAH, que tes œuvres sont en grand nombre! Tu les as toutes faites avec sagesse; la terre est pleine de tes richesses.

Et cette grande et vaste mer! Là sont des animaux sans nombre, gros et petits.

[So is] this great [1419] and wide [7342] [3027] sea, [3220] wherein [are] things creeping [7431] innumerable, [0369] [4557] both small [6996] and great [1419] beasts. [2416]

Là se promènent les navires, et ce Léviathan que tu as formé pour s'y jouer.

There go [1980] the ships: [0591] [there is] that leviathan, [3882] [whom] thou hast made [3335] to play [7832] therein.

Tous, ils s'attendent à toi, pour que tu leur donnes leur nourriture en son temps.

These wait [7663] all upon thee; that thou mayest give [5414] [them] their meat [0400] in due season. [6256]

Tu la leur donnes, et ils la recueillent; tu ouvres ta main, et ils sont rassasiés de biens.

Caches-tu ta face? ils sont éperdus; retires-tu leur souffle? ils expirent, et retournent en leur poussière.

Envoies-tu ton Esprit? ils sont créés, et tu renouvelles la face de la terre.

Que la gloire de YEHOVAH dure à toujours! Que YEHOVAH se réjouisse dans ses œuvres!

Il regarde la terre et elle tremble; il touche les montagnes et elles fument.

Lorsqu'ils n'étaient qu'une poignée de gens, peu nombreux et étrangers dans le pays,

Allant de nation en nation, et d'un royaume vers un autre royaume.

Il ne permit à personne de les opprimer, et il châtia des rois à cause d'eux,

Jusqu'au temps où ce qu'il avait dit arriva, où la Parole de YEHOVAH le fit connaître.

Le roi l'envoya délivrer; le dominateur des peuples le fit élargir.

The king [4428] sent [7971] and loosed [5425] him; [even] the ruler [4910] of the people, [5971] and let him go free. [6605]

Il l'établit seigneur de sa maison, et gouverneur de tous ses biens;

Pour enchaîner à son gré ses princes, et enseigner à ses anciens la sagesse.

Dieu fit fort multiplier son peuple, et le rendit plus puissant que ses oppresseurs.

Leur terre fourmilla de grenouilles, jusque dans les chambres de leurs rois.

Il parla, et des sauterelles vinrent, des insectes rongeurs sans nombre,

Il frappa tous les premiers-nés dans leur pays, toutes les prémices de leur force.

He smote [5221] also all the firstborn [1060] in their land, [0776] the chief [7225] of all their strength. [0202]

Puis il les fit sortir avec de l'argent et de l'or; et dans leurs tribus il n'y eut personne qui chancelât.

He brought them forth [3318] also with silver [3701] and gold: [2091] and [there was] not one feeble [3782] [person] among their tribes. [7626]

L'Égypte se réjouit à leur départ, car la frayeur d'Israël les avait saisis.

Car il se souvenait de sa Parole sainte, et d'Abraham, son serviteur.

Et il fit sortir son peuple avec allégresse, ses élus avec des chants de joie.

Il leur donna les terres des nations, et ils possédèrent le travail des peuples;

Afin qu'ils gardassent ses ordonnances, et qu'ils observassent ses lois. Louez YEHOVAH!

Heureux ceux qui observent ce qui est droit, qui font en tout temps ce qui est juste!

YEHOVAH, souviens-toi de moi, dans ta bienveillance envers ton peuple; fais venir à moi ton salut;

Afin que je voie le bonheur de tes élus, que je me réjouisse de la joie de ton peuple, et que je me glorifie avec ton héritage.

Nous et nos pères, nous avons péché; nous avons agi avec perversité; nous avons mal fait.

Nos pères en Égypte ne furent pas attentifs à tes merveilles; ils ne se souvinrent point de la multitude de tes bontés; mais ils furent rebelles auprès de la mer, vers la mer Rouge.

Et il les sauva pour l'amour de son nom, afin de faire connaître sa puissance.

Il les sauva des mains de l'adversaire, et les racheta des mains de l'ennemi.

Ils s'éprirent de convoitise dans le désert, et tentèrent Dieu dans la solitude.

Alors il leur accorda leur demande; mais il envoya sur eux la consomption.

Ils furent jaloux de Moïse dans le camp, et d'Aaron, le saint de YEHOVAH.

La terre s'ouvrit, et engloutit Dathan, et couvrit la troupe d'Abiram.

Le feu s'alluma dans leur assemblée; la flamme consuma les méchants.

Ils firent un veau en Horeb, et se prosternèrent devant une image de fonte.

Ils échangèrent leur gloire contre la figure du bœuf qui mange l'herbe.

Ils oublièrent Dieu, leur libérateur, qui avait fait de grandes choses en Égypte,

Ils murmurèrent dans leurs tentes; ils n'écoutèrent point la voix de YEHOVAH.

Alors il leur fit serment de les faire tomber dans le désert,

Therefore he lifted up [5375] his hand [3027] against them, to overthrow [5307] them in the wilderness: [4057]

De faire tomber leur postérité entre les nations, de les disperser dans tous les pays.

To overthrow [5307] their seed [2233] also among the nations, [1471] and to scatter [2219] them in the lands. [0776]

Ils s'attachèrent à Baal-Péor, et mangèrent les sacrifices des morts.

They joined [6775] themselves also unto Baalpeor, [1187] and ate [0398] the sacrifices [2077] of the dead. [4191]

Ils irritèrent Dieu par leurs actions, tellement qu'une plaie fit irruption parmi eux.

Thus they provoked [him] to anger [3707] with their inventions: [4611] and the plague [4046] brake in [6555] upon them.

Mais Phinées se présenta et fit justice, et la plaie fut arrêtée.

Et cela lui fut imputé à justice, dans tous les âges, à perpétuité.

Ils l'irritèrent aussi près des eaux de Mériba; et il en arriva du mal à Moïse à cause d'eux.

Car ils résistèrent à son esprit, et il parla légèrement de ses lèvres.

Because they provoked [4784] his spirit, [7307] so that he spake unadvisedly [0981] with his lips. [8193]

Ils ne détruisirent pas les peuples, que YEHOVAH leur avait dit de détruire.

They did not destroy [8045] the nations, [5971] concerning whom the LORD [3068] commanded [0559] them:

Mais ils se mêlèrent avec les nations, et ils apprirent leurs œuvres.

But were mingled [6148] among the heathen, [1471] and learned [3925] their works. [4639]

Ils servirent leurs idoles, qui furent pour eux un piège;

And they served [5647] their idols: [6091] which were a snare [4170] unto them.

Et ils sacrifièrent aux démons leurs fils et leurs filles.

Yea, they sacrificed [2076] their sons [1121] and their daughters [1323] unto devils, [7700]

Ils répandirent le sang innocent, le sang de leurs fils et de leurs filles, qu'ils sacrifièrent aux idoles de Canaan; et le pays fut profané par ces meurtres.

And shed [8210] innocent [5355] blood, [1818] [even] the blood [1818] of their sons [1121] and of their daughters, [1323] whom they sacrificed [2076] unto the idols [6091] of Canaan: [3667] and the land [0776] was polluted [2610] with blood. [1818]

Ils se souillèrent par leurs œuvres, et se prostituèrent par leurs actions.

Thus were they defiled [2930] with their own works, [4639] and went a whoring [2181] with their own inventions. [4611]

Et la colère de YEHOVAH s'alluma contre son peuple; il eut en abomination son héritage.

Therefore was the wrath [0639] of the LORD [3068] kindled [2734] against his people, [5971] insomuch that he abhorred [8581] his own inheritance. [5159]

Il les livra entre les mains des nations; ceux qui les haïssaient, dominèrent sur eux.

And he gave [5414] them into the hand [3027] of the heathen; [1471] and they that hated [8130] them ruled [4910] over them.

Leurs ennemis les opprimèrent, et ils furent humiliés sous leur main.

Their enemies [0341] also oppressed [3905] them, and they were brought into subjection [3665] under their hand. [3027]

Maintes fois il les délivra; mais ils se montraient rebelles dans leurs desseins, et se perdaient par leur iniquité.

Many [7227] times [6471] did he deliver [5337] them; but they provoked [4784] [him] with their counsel, [6098] and were brought low [4355] for their iniquity. [5771]

Toutefois, il les a regardés dans leur détresse, quand il entendait leur cri.

Nevertheless he regarded [7200] their affliction, [6862] when he heard [8085] their cry: [7440]

Il s'est souvenu en leur faveur de son alliance, et s'est repenti selon la grandeur de sa miséricorde.

And he remembered [2142] for them his covenant, [1285] and repented [5162] according to the multitude [7230] of his mercies. [2617]

Il leur a fait trouver compassion auprès de tous ceux qui les tenaient captifs.

He made [5414] them also to be pitied [7356] of [6440] all those that carried them captives. [7617]

Sauve-nous, YEHOVAH, notre Dieu, et rassemble-nous d'entre les nations, afin que nous célébrions ton saint nom, et que nous nous glorifiions dans tes louanges.

Ils erraient par le désert, dans un chemin solitaire; ils ne trouvaient point de ville habitable.

Ils étaient affamés et altérés; leur âme défaillait en eux.

Il les a conduits par le droit chemin, pour arriver à une ville habitable.

Car il a rassasié l'âme altérée, et rempli de biens l'âme affamée.

Ceux qui habitaient les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort, retenus dans l'affliction et dans les fers,

Pour avoir été rebelles aux paroles de Dieu, et avoir méprisé le conseil du Très-Haut;

Car il a brisé les portes d'airain, et rompu les barreaux de fer.

Les insensés qui étaient affligés à cause de la voie de leurs transgressions et de leurs iniquités;

Leur âme avait en horreur toute nourriture; ils touchaient aux portes de la mort.

Ceux-là ont vu les œuvres de YEHOVAH, et ses merveilles dans les lieux profonds.

Il parla, et fit lever un vent de tempête, qui souleva les vagues de la mer.

For he commandeth, [0559] and raiseth [5975] the stormy [5591] wind, [7307] which lifteth up [7311] the waves [1530] thereof.

Ils montent aux cieux; ils descendent aux abîmes; leur âme se fond d'angoisse.

They mount up [5927] to the heaven, [8064] they go down [3381] again to the depths: [8415] their soul [5315] is melted [4127] because of trouble. [7451]

Ils tournoient et chancellent comme un homme ivre; toute leur sagesse leur manque.

They reel to and fro, [2287] and stagger [5128] like a drunken [7910] man, and are at their wits' [2451] end. [1104]

Alors ils ont crié à YEHOVAH dans leur détresse, et il les a retirés de leurs angoisses.

Il arrête la tempête, la changeant en calme, et les ondes se taisent.

He maketh [6965] the storm [5591] a calm, [1827] so that the waves [1530] thereof are still. [2814]

Ils se réjouissent de ce qu'elles sont calmées; et il les conduit au port qu'ils désiraient.

Then are they glad [8055] because they be quiet; [8367] so he bringeth [5148] them unto their desired [2656] haven. [4231]

Il change les fleuves en désert, et les sources d'eaux en un sol aride;

He turneth [7760] rivers [5104] into a wilderness, [4057] and the watersprings [4325] [4161] into dry ground; [6774]

La terre fertile en lande salée, à cause de la méchanceté de ses habitants.

A fruitful [6529] land [0776] into barrenness, [4420] for the wickedness [7451] of them that dwell [3427] therein.

Il change le désert en étang, et la terre aride en sources d'eaux.

He turneth [7760] the wilderness [4057] into a standing [0098] water, [4325] and dry [6723] ground [0776] into watersprings. [4325] [4161]

Il y fait habiter ceux qui étaient affamés; et ils fondent une ville pour l'habiter.

And there he maketh the hungry [7457] to dwell, [3427] that they may prepare [3559] a city [5892] for habitation; [4186]

Ils ensemencent des champs et plantent des vignes, qui rendent du fruit tous les ans.

And sow [2232] the fields, [7704] and plant [5193] vineyards, [3754] which may yield [6213] fruits [6529] of increase. [8393]

Il les bénit, et ils se multiplient extrêmement; il ne laisse point diminuer leur bétail.

He blesseth [1288] them also, so that they are multiplied [7235] greatly; [3966] and suffereth not their cattle [0929] to decrease. [4591]

Puis, ils sont amoindris et humiliés par l'oppression, le malheur et la souffrance.

Again, they are minished [4591] and brought low [7817] through oppression, [6115] affliction, [7451] and sorrow. [3015]

Il répand le mépris sur les grands, et les fait errer dans un désert sans chemin.

He poureth [8210] contempt [0937] upon princes, [5081] and causeth them to wander [8582] in the wilderness, [8414] [where there is] no way. [1870]

Mais il relève le pauvre de l'affliction, et rend les familles nombreuses comme des troupeaux.

Yet setteth he the poor [0034] on high [7682] from affliction, [6040] and maketh [7760] [him] families [4940] like a flock. [6629]

Les hommes droits le voient et s'en réjouissent; mais tous les injustes ont la bouche fermée.

The righteous [3477] shall see [7200] [it], and rejoice: [8055] and all iniquity [5766] shall stop [7092] her mouth. [6310]

Il a envoyé la rédemption à son peuple. Il a établi son alliance pour toujours. Son nom est saint et redoutable.

Notre Seigneur est grand, et d'une grande puissance; son intelligence est infinie.

YEHOVAH soutient les humbles, et il abaisse les méchants jusqu'à terre.

Chantez à YEHOVAH avec des actions de grâces; psalmodiez sur la harpe à notre Dieu,

Qui couvre les cieux de nuées, qui prépare la pluie pour la terre; qui fait germer l'herbe sur les montagnes;

Qui donne au bétail sa nourriture, et aux petits du corbeau qui crient.

Il ne se complaît point en la force du cheval; il ne fait point cas des hommes légers à la course.

YEHOVAH prend son plaisir en ceux qui le craignent, en ceux qui s'attendent à sa bonté.

Il fait tomber la neige comme de la laine, et répand le givre comme de la cendre;

Il jette sa glace comme par morceaux. Qui peut résister devant son froid?

Il envoie sa Parole, et les fait fondre; il fait souffler son vent, et les eaux s'écoulent.

Il a révélé sa Parole à Jacob, ses statuts et ses ordonnances à Israël.

Il n'a pas agi ainsi pour toutes les nations; et elles ne connaissent pas ses ordonnances. Louez YEHOVAH!

Jeunes hommes et vous aussi, vierges; vieillards avec les enfants!

Qu'ils louent le nom de YEHOVAH, car son nom seul est élevé; sa majesté est au-dessus de la terre et des cieux!
