 Alors ses serviteurs lui dirent: Qu'on cherche au roi, mon seigneur, une jeune fille vierge qui se tienne devant le roi et qui en ait soin; et qu'elle dorme en ton sein, afin que le roi, mon seigneur, se réchauffe.

 Wherefore his servants [5650] said [0559] unto him, Let there be sought [1245] for my lord [0113] the king [4428] a young [5291] virgin: [1330] and let her stand [5975] before [6440] the king, [4428] and let her cherish [5532] him, and let her lie [7901] in thy bosom, [2436] that my lord [0113] the king [4428] may get heat.  On chercha donc dans tout le territoire d'Israël une belle jeune fille, et on trouva Abishag, la Sunamite, qu'on amena au roi.

 So they sought [1245] for a fair [3303] damsel [5291] throughout all the coasts [1366] of Israel, [3478] and found [4672] Abishag [0049] a Shunammite, [7767] and brought [0935] her to the king. [4428]

 Or cette jeune fille était fort belle; et elle avait soin du roi et le servait; mais le roi ne la connut point.

 And the damsel [5291] [was] very [3966] fair, [3303] and cherished [5532] the king, [4428] and ministered [8334] to him: but the king [4428] knew [3045] her not.

 Or Adonija, fils de Hagguith, s'éleva, disant: Je régnerai. Et il se procura des chars et des cavaliers, et cinquante hommes qui couraient devant lui.

 Then Adonijah [0138] the son [1121] of Haggith [2294] exalted [4984] himself, saying, [0559] I will be king: [4427] and he prepared [6213] him chariots [7393] and horsemen, [6571] and fifty [2572] men [0376] to run [7323] before [6440] him.

 Mais son père ne voulait point lui donner de chagrin pendant sa vie, ni lui dire: Pourquoi agis-tu ainsi? Lui aussi était fort beau, et sa mère l'avait enfanté après Absalom.

 And his father [0001] had not displeased [6087] him at any time [3117] in saying, [0559] Why hast thou done [6213] so? and he also [was a] very [3966] goodly [2896] [8389] [man]; and [his mother] bare [3205] him after [0310] Absalom. [0053]

 Il s'entendit avec Joab, fils de Tséruja, et avec le sacrificateur Abiathar; et ils embrassèrent le parti d'Adonija.

 And he conferred [1697] with Joab [3097] the son [1121] of Zeruiah, [6870] and with Abiathar [0054] the priest: [3548] and they following [0310] Adonijah [0138] helped [5826] [him].

 Alors Nathan parla à Bath-Shéba, mère de Salomon, et lui dit: N'as-tu pas appris qu'Adonija, fils de Hagguith, a été fait roi, sans que David, notre seigneur, le sache?

 Wherefore Nathan [5416] spake [0559] unto Bathsheba [1339] the mother [0517] of Solomon, [8010] saying, [0559] Hast thou not heard [8085] that Adonijah [0138] the son [1121] of Haggith [2294] doth reign, [4427] and David [1732] our lord [0113] knoweth [3045] [it] not?

 Et maintenant viens, je te prie, et je te donnerai un conseil afin que tu sauves ta vie et la vie de ton fils Salomon.

 Now therefore come, [3212] let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, [3289] [6098] that thou mayest save [4422] thine own life, [5315] and the life [5315] of thy son [1121] Solomon. [8010]

 Va te présenter au roi David, et dis-lui: Ô roi, mon seigneur, n'as-tu pas fait ce serment à ta servante, en disant: Ton fils Salomon régnera après moi, et c'est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône? Pourquoi donc est-ce Adonija qui règne?

 Go [3212] and get thee in [0935] unto king [4428] David, [1732] and say [0559] unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, [0113] O king, [4428] swear [7650] unto thine handmaid, [0519] saying, [0559] Assuredly [3588] Solomon [8010] thy son [1121] shall reign [4427] after [0310] me, and he shall sit [3427] upon my throne?  Et voici, pendant que tu parleras encore là avec le roi, j'entrerai moi-même après toi et j'achèverai ton discours.

 Behold, while thou yet talkest [1696] there with the king, [4428] I also will come in [0935] after [0310] thee, and confirm [4390] thy words. [1697]

 Bath-Shéba vint donc vers le roi, dans sa chambre. Or le roi était fort vieux, et Abishag, la Sunamite, le servait.

 And Bathsheba [1339] went in [0935] unto the king [4428] into the chamber: [2315] and the king [4428] was very [3966] old; [2204] and Abishag [0049] the Shunammite [7767] ministered [8334] unto the king. [4428]

 Et Bath-Shéba s'inclina et se prosterna devant le roi; et le roi lui dit: Qu'as-tu?

 And Bathsheba [1339] bowed, [6915] and did obeisance [7812] unto the king. [4428] And the king [4428] said, [0559] What wouldest thou?

 Et elle lui répondit: Mon seigneur, tu as juré, par YEHOVAH ton Dieu, à ta servante, en disant: Certainement ton fils Salomon régnera après moi, et il s'assiéra sur mon trône.

 And she said [0559] unto him, My lord, [0113] thou swarest [7650] by the LORD [3068] thy God [0430] unto thine handmaid, [0519] [saying], Assuredly Solomon [8010] thy son [1121] shall reign [4427] after [0310] me, and he shall sit [3427] upon my throne. [3678]

 And now, behold, Adonijah [0138] reigneth; [4427] and now, my lord [0113] the king, [4428] thou knowest [3045] [it] not:

 Il a même immolé des bœufs, des veaux gras et des brebis en grand nombre, et il a convié tous les fils du roi, avec Abiathar, le sacrificateur, et Joab, le chef de l'armée; mais il n'a point invité ton serviteur Salomon.

 And he hath slain [2076] oxen [7794] and fat cattle [4806] and sheep [6629] in abundance, [7230] and hath called [7121] all the sons [1121] of the king, [4428] and Abiathar [0054] the priest, [3548] and Joab [3097] the captain [8269] of the host: [6635] but Solomon [8010] thy servant [5650] hath he not called.  Et pour toi, ô roi, mon seigneur, les yeux de tout Israël sont sur toi, afin que tu leur déclares qui doit s'asseoir sur le trône du roi, mon seigneur, après lui.

 And thou, my lord, [0113] O king, [4428] the eyes [5869] of all Israel [3478] [are] upon thee, that thou shouldest tell [5046] them who shall sit [3427] on the throne [3678] of my lord [0113] the king [4428] after [0310] him.

 Or, il arrivera, lorsque le roi, mon seigneur, se sera endormi avec ses pères, que nous serons tenus pour coupables, moi et mon fils Salomon.

 Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord [0113] the king [4428] shall sleep [7901] with his fathers, [0001] that I and my son [1121] Solomon [8010] shall be counted offenders. [2400]

 Et voici, elle parlait encore avec le roi, quand Nathan, le prophète, arriva.

 And, lo, while she yet talked [1696] with the king, [4428] Nathan [5416] the prophet [5030] also came in. [0935]

 Et on l'annonça au roi, en disant: Voici Nathan, le prophète. Et il se présenta devant le roi et se prosterna en terre devant lui sur son visage.

 And they told [5046] the king, [4428] saying, [0559] Behold Nathan [5416] the prophet. [5030] And when he was come in [0935] before [6440] the king, [4428] he bowed [7812] himself before the king [4428] with his face [0639] to the ground. [0776]

 Et Nathan dit: Ô roi, mon seigneur, as-tu dit: Adonija régnera après moi et s'assiéra sur mon trône?

 And Nathan [5416] said, [0559] My lord, [0113] O king, [4428] hast thou said, [0559] Adonijah [0138] shall reign [4427] after [0310] me, and he shall sit [3427] upon my throne? [3678]

 Car il est descendu aujourd'hui, et il a immolé des bœufs, des veaux gras et des brebis en grand nombre; et il a convié tous les fils du roi, et les chefs de l'armée et le sacrificateur Abiathar; et voici, ils mangent et boivent devant lui, et ils ont dit: Vive le roi Adonija!

 For he is gone down [3381] this day, [3117] and hath slain [2076] oxen [7794] and fat cattle [4806] and sheep [6629] in abundance, [7230] and hath called [7121] all the king's [4428] sons, [1121] and the captains [8269] of the host, [6635] and Abiathar [0054] the priest; [3548] and, behold, they eat [0398] and drink [8354] before [6440] him, and say, [0559] God save [2421] king [4428] Adonijah.  Mais il n'a convié ni moi, ton serviteur, ni le sacrificateur Tsadok, ni Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, ni Salomon, ton serviteur.

 But me, [even] me thy servant, [5650] and Zadok [6659] the priest, [3548] and Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada, [3077] and thy servant [5650] Solomon, [8010] hath he not called. [7121]

 Ceci aurait-il été fait par le roi, mon seigneur, sans que tu eusses fait savoir à tes serviteurs qui doit s'asseoir sur le trône du roi, mon seigneur, après lui?

 Is this thing [1697] done [1961] by my lord [0113] the king, [4428] and thou hast not shewed [3045] [it] unto thy servant, [5650] who should sit [3427] on the throne [3678] of my lord [0113] the king [4428] after [0310] him?

 Alors le roi David répondit et dit: Appelez-moi Bath-Shéba; et elle se présenta devant le roi et se tint devant lui.

 Then king [4428] David [1732] answered [6030] and said, [0559] Call [7121] me Bathsheba. [1339] And she came [0935] into the king's [4428] presence, [6440] and stood [5975] before [6440] the king. [4428]

 Alors le roi jura, et dit: YEHOVAH, qui a délivré mon âme de toute détresse, est vivant!

 And the king [4428] sware, [7650] and said, [0559] [As] the LORD [3068] liveth, [2416] that hath redeemed [6299] my soul [5315] out of all distress, [6869]

 Comme je te l'ai juré par YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël, en disant: Certainement ton fils Salomon régnera après moi et s'assiéra sur mon trône à ma place, ainsi ferai-je aujourd'hui.

 Even as I sware [7650] unto thee by the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] saying, [0559] Assuredly Solomon [8010] thy son [1121] shall reign [4427] after [0310] me, and he shall sit [3427] upon my throne [3678] in my stead; even so will I certainly do [6213] this day. [3117]

 Et Bath-Shéba s'inclina le visage contre terre, et se prosterna devant le roi, et dit: Que le roi David, mon seigneur, vive à jamais!

 Then Bathsheba [1339] bowed [6915] with [her] face [0639] to the earth, [0776] and did reverence [7812] to the king, [4428] and said, [0559] Let my lord [0113] king [4428] David [1732] live [2421] for ever. [5769]

 Puis le roi David dit: Appelez-moi Tsadok, le sacrificateur, et Nathan, le prophète, et Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada. Et ils se présentèrent devant le roi.

 And king [4428] David [1732] said, [0559] Call [7121] me Zadok [6659] the priest, [3548] and Nathan [5416] the prophet, [5030] and Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada. [3077] And they came [0935] before [6440] the king. [4428]

 Et le roi leur dit: Prenez avec vous les serviteurs de votre seigneur, et faites monter mon fils Salomon sur ma mule, et faites-le descendre à Guihon;

 The king [4428] also said [0559] unto them, Take [3947] with you the servants [5650] of your lord, [0113] and cause Solomon [8010] my son [1121] to ride [7392] upon mine own mule, [6506] and bring him down [3381] to Gihon: [1521]

 And let Zadok [6659] the priest [3548] and Nathan [5416] the prophet [5030] anoint [4886] him there king [4428] over Israel: [3478] and blow [8628] ye with the trumpet, [7782] and say, [0559] God save [2421] king [4428] Solomon. [8010]

 Et vous monterez après lui, et il viendra, et s'assiéra sur mon trône, et régnera à ma place; car j'ai ordonné qu'il soit conducteur d'Israël et de Juda.

 Then ye shall come up [5927] after [0310] him, that he may come [0935] and sit [3427] upon my throne; [3678] for he shall be king [4427] in my stead: and I have appointed [6680] him to be ruler [5057] over Israel [3478] and over Judah. [3063]

 Alors Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, répondit au roi et dit: Amen! Que YEHOVAH, le Dieu du roi, mon seigneur, l'ordonne ainsi!

 And Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada [3077] answered [6030] the king, [4428] and said, [0559] Amen: [0543] the LORD [3068] God [0430] of my lord [0113] the king [4428] say [0559] so [too].

 Comme YEHOVAH a été avec le roi, mon seigneur, qu'il soit de même avec Salomon, et qu'il élève son trône plus que le trône du roi David, mon seigneur!

 As the LORD [3068] hath been with my lord [0113] the king, [4428] even so be he with Solomon, [8010] and make his throne [3678] greater [1431] than the throne [3678] of my lord [0113] king [4428] David. [1732]

 Puis Tsadok, le sacrificateur, descendit avec Nathan, le prophète, et Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, et les Kéréthiens et les Péléthiens, et ils firent monter Salomon sur la mule du roi David et le menèrent à Guihon.

 So Zadok [6659] the priest, [3548] and Nathan [5416] the prophet, [5030] and Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada, [3077] and the Cherethites, [3774] and the Pelethites, [6432] went down, [3381] and caused Solomon [8010] to ride [7392] upon king [4428] David's [1732] mule, [6506] and brought [3212] him to Gihon. [1521]

 Et Tsadok, le sacrificateur, prit dans le tabernacle la corne d'huile, et oignit Salomon. Puis on sonna de la trompette, et tout le peuple dit: Vive le roi Salomon!

 And Zadok [6659] the priest [3548] took [3947] an horn [7161] of oil [8081] out of the tabernacle, [0168] and anointed [4886] Solomon. [8010] And they blew [8628] the trumpet; [7782] and all the people [5971] said, [0559] God save [2421] king [4428] Solomon. [8010]

 Et tout le monde monta après lui; et le peuple jouait de la flûte, et se livrait à une grande joie, et faisait retentir la terre de ses cris.

 And all the people [5971] came up [5927] after [0310] him, and the people [5971] piped [2490] with pipes, [2485] and rejoiced [8056] with great [1419] joy, [8057] so that the earth [0776] rent [1234] with the sound [6963] of them.

 Or Adonija et tous les conviés qui étaient avec lui entendirent ce bruit, comme ils achevaient de manger. Joab aussi entendit le son de la trompette, et dit: Pourquoi ce bruit de la ville en tumulte?

 And Adonijah [0138] and all the guests [7121] that [were] with him heard [8085] [it] as they had made an end [3615] of eating. [0398] And when Joab [3097] heard [8085] the sound [6963] of the trumpet, [7782] he said, [0559] Wherefore [is this] noise [6963] of the city [7151] being in an uproar? [1993]

 Comme il parlait encore, voici, Jonathan, fils d'Abiathar le sacrificateur, arriva. Et Adonija lui dit: Entre, car tu es un brave; tu apportes de bonnes nouvelles.

 And while he yet spake, [1696] behold, Jonathan [3129] the son [1121] of Abiathar [0054] the priest [3548] came: [0935] and Adonijah [0138] said [0559] unto him, Come in; [0935] for thou [art] a valiant [2428] man, [0376] and bringest good [2896] tidings. [1319]

 Et le roi a envoyé avec lui Tsadok, le sacrificateur, Nathan, le prophète, Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, et les Kéréthiens et les Péléthiens; et ils l'ont fait monter sur la mule du roi.

 And the king [4428] hath sent [7971] with him Zadok [6659] the priest, [3548] and Nathan [5416] the prophet, [5030] and Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada, [3077] and the Cherethites, [3774] and the Pelethites, [6432] and they have caused him to ride [7392] upon the king's [4428] mule: [6506]

 Puis Tsadok, le sacrificateur, et Nathan, le prophète, l'ont oint pour roi à Guihon; ils en sont remontés avec joie, et toute la ville s'est émue; c'est là le bruit que vous avez entendu.

 And Zadok [6659] the priest [3548] and Nathan [5416] the prophet [5030] have anointed [4886] him king [4428] in Gihon: [1521] and they are come up [5927] from thence rejoicing, [8056] so that the city [7151] rang again. [1949] This [is] the noise [6963] that ye have heard. [8085]

 Et Salomon s'est même assis sur le trône royal;

 And also Solomon [8010] sitteth [3427] on the throne [3678] of the kingdom. [4410]

 Et même les serviteurs du roi sont venus pour bénir le roi David, notre seigneur, en disant: Que Dieu rende le nom de Salomon plus grand que ton nom, et qu'il élève son trône plus que ton trône! Et le roi s'est prosterné sur son lit.

 And moreover the king's [4428] servants [5650] came [0935] to bless [1288] our lord [0113] king [4428] David, [1732] saying, [0559] God [0430] make the name [8034] of Solomon [8010] better [3190] than thy name, [8034] and make his throne [3678] greater [1431] than thy throne. [3678] And the king [4428] bowed [7812] himself upon the bed. [4904]

 Et voici ce que le roi a dit: Béni soit YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël, qui a donné aujourd'hui, pour être assis sur mon trône, un homme que je vois de mes propres yeux!

 And also thus said [0559] the king, [4428] Blessed [1288] [be] the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] which hath given [5414] [one] to sit [3427] on my throne [3678] this day, [3117] mine eyes [5869] even seeing [7200] [it].

 Alors tous les conviés qui étaient avec Adonija, furent dans un grand trouble et se levèrent, et chacun s'en alla de son côté.

 And all the guests [7121] that [were] with Adonijah [0138] were afraid, [2729] and rose up, [6965] and went [3212] every man [0376] his way. [1870]

 Et Adonija, craignant Salomon, se leva et s'en alla, et saisit les cornes de l'autel.

 And Adonijah [0138] feared [3372] because [6440] of Solomon, [8010] and arose, [6965] and went, [3212] and caught hold [2388] on the horns [7161] of the altar. [4196]

 Et on en fit rapport à Salomon, en disant: Voici, Adonija a peur du roi Salomon; et voici, il a saisi les cornes de l'autel, et il a dit: Que le roi Salomon me jure aujourd'hui qu'il ne fera pas mourir son serviteur par l'épée.

 And it was told [5046] Solomon, [8010] saying, [0559] Behold, Adonijah [0138] feareth [3372] king [4428] Solomon: [8010] for, lo, he hath caught hold [0270] on the horns [7161] of the altar, [4196] saying, [0559] Let king [4428] Solomon [8010] swear [7650] unto me to day [3117] that he will not slay [4191] his servant [5650] with the sword.  Alors Salomon dit: S'il se conduit en homme de bien, il ne tombera pas un de ses cheveux à terre; mais s'il se trouve du mal en lui, il mourra.

 And Solomon [8010] said, [0559] If he will shew himself a worthy [2428] man, [1121] there shall not an hair [8185] of him fall [5307] to the earth: [0776] but if wickedness [7451] shall be found [4672] in him, he shall die. [4191]

 Et le roi Salomon envoya, et le fit ramener de l'autel; et il vint se prosterner devant le roi Salomon. Et Salomon lui dit: Va-t'en dans ta maison.

 So king [4428] Solomon [8010] sent, [7971] and they brought him down [3381] from the altar. [4196] And he came [0935] and bowed [7812] himself to king [4428] Solomon: [8010] and Solomon [8010] said [0559] unto him, Go [3212] to thine house. [1004]

 Le temps de la mort de David approchant, il donna ses commandements à son fils Salomon, et lui dit:

 Now the days [3117] of David [1732] drew nigh [7126] that he should die; [4191] and he charged [6680] Solomon [8010] his son, [1121] saying, [0559]

 Je m'en vais par le chemin de toute la terre; fortifie-toi et sois un homme.

 I go [1980] the way [1870] of all the earth: [0776] be thou strong [2388] therefore, and shew thyself a man; [0376]

 Et garde le dépôt que YEHOVAH ton Dieu veut que tu gardes, en marchant dans ses voies, et en gardant ses statuts, ses commandements, ses ordonnances et ses témoignages, selon ce qui est écrit dans la loi de Moïse; afin que tu réussisses dans tout ce que tu feras et dans tout ce que tu entreprendras;

 And keep [8104] the charge [4931] of the LORD [3068] thy God, [0430] to walk [3212] in his ways, [1870] to keep [8104] his statutes, [2708] and his commandments, [4687] and his judgments, [4941] and his testimonies, [5715] as it is written [3789] in the law [8451] of Moses, [4872] that thou mayest prosper [7919] in all that thou doest, [6213] and whithersoever thou turnest [6437] thyself:

 Et que YEHOVAH accomplisse la parole qu'il a prononcée à mon égard, en disant: Si tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, pour marcher devant moi dans la vérité, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, alors ta descendance ne sera jamais retranchée du trône d'Israël.

 That the LORD [3068] may continue [6965] his word [1697] which he spake [1696] concerning me, saying, [0559] If thy children [1121] take heed [8104] to their way, [1870] to walk [3212] before [6440] me in truth [0571] with all their heart [3824] and with all their soul, [5315] there shall not fail [3772] thee (said [0559] he) a man [0376] on the throne [3678] of Israel.  Au reste, tu sais ce que m'a fait Joab, fils de Tséruja, ce qu'il a fait à deux chefs des armées d'Israël, à Abner, fils de Ner, et à Amasa, fils de Jéther, qu'il a tués, versant dans la paix le sang de la guerre, et ensanglantant du sang de la guerre la ceinture qu'il avait aux reins et les souliers qu'il avait aux pieds.

 Moreover thou knowest [3045] also what Joab [3097] the son [1121] of Zeruiah [6870] did [6213] to me, [and] what he did [6213] to the two [8147] captains [8269] of the hosts [6635] of Israel, [3478] unto Abner [0074] the son [1121] of Ner, [5369] and unto Amasa [6021] the son [1121] of Jether, [3500] whom he slew, [2026] and shed [7760] the blood [1818] of war [4421] in peace, [7965] and put [5414] the blood [1818] of war [4421] upon his girdle [2290] that [was] about hi

 And, behold, [thou hast] with thee Shimei [8096] the son [1121] of Gera, [1617] a Benjamite [1145] of Bahurim, [0980] which cursed [7043] me with a grievous [4834] curse [7045] in the day [3117] when I went [3212] to Mahanaim: [4266] but he came down [3381] to meet [7125] me at Jordan, [3383] and I sware [7650] to him by the LORD, [3068] saying, [0559] I will not put thee to death [4191] with the sword.  Maintenant donc, tu ne le laisseras point impuni; car tu es sage pour savoir ce que tu lui devras faire; mais tu feras descendre ensanglantés ses cheveux blancs au Sépulcre.

 Now therefore hold him not guiltless: [5352] for thou [art] a wise [2450] man, [0376] and knowest [3045] what thou oughtest to do [6213] unto him; but his hoar head [7872] bring thou down [3381] to the grave [7585] with blood. [1818]

 Ainsi David s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli dans la cité de David.

 Et Salomon s'assit sur le trône de David, son père, et son règne fut très affermi.

 Et il dit: Tu sais bien que le royaume m'appartenait, et que tout Israël s'attendait à ce que je régnasse; mais la royauté a été transférée, et elle est échue à mon frère, parce que YEHOVAH la lui a donnée.

 And he said, [0559] Thou knowest [3045] that the kingdom [4410] was mine, and [that] all Israel [3478] set [7760] their faces [6440] on me, that I should reign: [4427] howbeit the kingdom [4410] is turned about, [5437] and is become my brother's: [0251] for it was his from the LORD. [3068]

 Maintenant donc j'ai une demande à te faire; ne me la refuse pas. Et elle lui dit: Parle!

 And now I ask [7592] one [0259] petition [7596] of thee, deny [7725] me [6440] not. And she said [0559] unto him, Say on. [1696]

 Et il dit: Je te prie, dis au roi Salomon (car il ne te refusera pas), qu'il me donne pour femme Abishag, la Sunamite.

 And he said, [0559] Speak, [0559] I pray thee, unto Solomon [8010] the king, [4428] (for he will not say thee [6440] nay,) [7725] that he give [5414] me Abishag [0049] the Shunammite [7767] to wife. [0802]

 Bath-Shéba répondit: Bien; je parlerai pour toi au roi.

[0138] And the king [4428] rose up [6965] to meet [7125] her, and bowed [7812] himself unto her, and sat down [3427] on his throne, [3678] and caused a seat [3678] to be set [7760] for the king's [4428] mother; [0517] and she sat [3427] on his right hand.  Then she said, [0559] I desire [7592] one [0259] small [6996] petition [7596] of thee; [I pray thee], say me [6440] not nay. [7725] And the king [4428] said [0559] unto her, Ask on, [7592] my mother: [0517] for I will not say thee [6440] nay. [7725]

 Et elle dit: Qu'on donne Abishag, la Sunamite, pour femme à Adonija, ton frère.

 And she said, [0559] Let Abishag [0049] the Shunammite [7767] be given [5414] to Adonijah [0138] thy brother [0251] to wife. [0802]

 Mais le roi Salomon répondit et dit à sa mère: Et pourquoi demandes-tu Abishag, la Sunamite, pour Adonija? Demande donc le royaume pour lui, car il est mon frère aîné; pour lui, et pour Abiathar, le sacrificateur, et pour Joab, fils de Tséruja!

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] answered [6030] and said [0559] unto his mother, [0517] And why dost thou ask [7592] Abishag [0049] the Shunammite [7767] for Adonijah? [0138] ask [7592] for him the kingdom [4410] also; for he [is] mine elder [1419] brother; [0251] even for him, and for Abiathar [0054] the priest, [3548] and for Joab [3097] the son [1121] of Zeruiah.  Alors le roi Salomon jura par YEHOVAH, en disant: Que Dieu me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si Adonija n'a dit cette parole contre sa propre vie!

 Then king [4428] Solomon [8010] sware [7650] by the LORD, [3068] saying, [0559] God [0430] do [6213] so to me, and more [3254] also, if Adonijah [0138] have not spoken [1696] this word [1697] against his own life. [5315]

 Et maintenant, YEHOVAH est vivant, qui m'a établi et fait asseoir sur le trône de David, mon père, et qui a établi ma maison comme il l'avait dit! Certainement Adonija sera mis à mort aujourd'hui.

 Now therefore, [as] the LORD [3068] liveth, [2416] which hath established [3559] me, and set [3427] me on the throne [3678] of David [1732] my father, [0001] and who hath made [6213] me an house, [1004] as he promised, [1696] Adonijah [0138] shall be put to death [4191] this day. [3117]

 Et le roi Salomon donna commission à Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, qui se jeta sur lui; et il mourut.

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] sent [7971] by the hand [3027] of Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada; [3077] and he fell [6293] upon him that he died. [4191]

 Puis le roi dit à Abiathar, le sacrificateur: Va-t'en à Anathoth, dans ta possession; car tu mérites la mort; toutefois je ne te ferai pas mourir aujourd'hui; car tu as porté l'arche du Seigneur YEHOVAH devant David, mon père, et tu as eu part à toutes les afflictions de mon père.

 And unto Abiathar [0054] the priest [3548] said [0559] the king, [4428] Get [3212] thee to Anathoth, [6068] unto thine own fields; [7704] for thou [art] worthy [0376] of death: [4194] but I will not at this time [3117] put thee to death, [4191] because thou barest [5375] the ark [0727] of the Lord [0136] GOD [3069] before [6440] David [1732] my father, [0001] and because thou hast been afflicted [6031] in all wherein my father [0001] was afflicted.  Ainsi Salomon chassa Abiathar, afin qu'il ne fût plus sacrificateur de YEHOVAH; et cela, pour accomplir la Parole de YEHOVAH, qu'il avait prononcée à Silo contre la maison d'Héli.

 So Solomon [8010] thrust out [1644] Abiathar [0054] from being priest [3548] unto the LORD; [3068] that he might fulfil [4390] the word [1697] of the LORD, [3068] which he spake [1696] concerning the house [1004] of Eli [5941] in Shiloh. [7887]

 Cette nouvelle étant parvenue à Joab (qui s'était révolté pour suivre Adonija, bien qu'il ne se fût point révolté pour suivre Absalom), il s'enfuit au tabernacle de YEHOVAH, et il saisit les cornes de l'autel.

 Then tidings [8052] came [0935] to Joab: [3097] for Joab [3097] had turned [5186] after [0310] Adonijah, [0138] though he turned [5186] not after [0310] Absalom. [0053] And Joab [3097] fled [5127] unto the tabernacle [0168] of the LORD, [3068] and caught hold [2388] on the horns [7161] of the altar. [4196]

 Et on vint dire au roi Salomon: Joab s'est enfui au tabernacle de YEHOVAH, et le voilà près de l'autel. Alors Salomon envoya Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, et lui dit: Va, jette-toi sur lui.

 And it was told [5046] king [4428] Solomon [8010] that Joab [3097] was fled [5127] unto the tabernacle [0168] of the LORD; [3068] and, behold, [he is] by [0681] the altar. [4196] Then Solomon [8010] sent [7971] Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada, [3077] saying, [0559] Go, [3212] fall [6293] upon him.

 Bénaja vint donc au tabernacle de YEHOVAH, et il lui dit: Ainsi a dit le roi: Sors de là! Et il dit: Non; mais je mourrai ici. Et Bénaja fit rapport au roi, et dit: Joab m'a parlé ainsi, et il m'a ainsi répondu.

 And Benaiah [1141] came [0935] to the tabernacle [0168] of the LORD, [3068] and said [0559] unto him, Thus saith [0559] the king, [4428] Come forth. [3318] And he said, [0559] Nay; but I will die [4191] here. And Benaiah [1141] brought the king [4428] word [1697] again, [7725] saying, [0559] Thus said [1696] Joab, [3097] and thus he answered [6030] me.

 Et le roi lui dit: Fais comme il a dit. Jette-toi sur lui, et ensevelis-le; et tu ôteras de dessus moi et de dessus la maison de mon père le sang que Joab a répandu sans cause.

 And the king [4428] said [0559] unto him, Do [6213] as he hath said, [1696] and fall [6293] upon him, and bury [6912] him; that thou mayest take away [5493] the innocent [2600] blood, [1818] which Joab [3097] shed, [8210] from me, and from the house [1004] of my father. [0001]

 Et YEHOVAH fera retomber son sang sur sa tête; car il s'est jeté sur deux hommes plus justes et meilleurs que lui, et il les a tués avec l'épée, sans que David, mon père, en sût rien: Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l'armée d'Israël, et Amasa, fils de Jéther, chef de l'armée de Juda.

 And the LORD [3068] shall return [7725] his blood [1818] upon his own head, [7218] who fell upon [6293] two [8147] men [0582] more righteous [6662] and better [2896] than he, and slew [2026] them with the sword, [2719] my father [0001] David [1732] not knowing [3045] [thereof, to wit], Abner [0074] the son [1121] of Ner, [5369] captain [8269] of the host [6635] of Israel, [3478] and Amasa [6021] the son [1121] of Jether, [3500] captain [8269] of the host [6635] of Judah.

 Et leur sang retombera sur la tête de Joab, et sur la tête de sa postérité à toujours; mais il y aura paix de la part de YEHOVAH, à toujours, pour David, pour sa postérité, pour sa maison et pour son trône.

 Their blood [1818] shall therefore return [7725] upon the head [7218] of Joab, [3097] and upon the head [7218] of his seed [2233] for ever: [5769] but upon David, [1732] and upon his seed, [2233] and upon his house, [1004] and upon his throne, [3678] shall there be peace [7965] for [5704] ever [5769] from the LORD. [3068]

 Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, monta donc, et se jeta sur lui, et le tua; et on l'ensevelit dans sa maison, au désert.

 So Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada [3077] went up, [5927] and fell [6293] upon him, and slew [4191] him: and he was buried [6912] in his own house [1004] in the wilderness. [4057]

 Alors le roi établit Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, sur l'armée, à la place de Joab; et le sacrificateur Tsadok fut mis par le roi à la place d'Abiathar.

 And the king [4428] put [5414] Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada [3077] in his room over the host: [6635] and Zadok [6659] the priest [3548] did the king [4428] put [5414] in the room of Abiathar. [0054]

 Puis le roi envoya appeler Shimeï et lui dit: Bâtis-toi une maison à Jérusalem, et demeures-y, et n'en sors point pour aller de côté ou d'autre.

 And the king [4428] sent [7971] and called [7121] for Shimei, [8096] and said [0559] unto him, Build [1129] thee an house [1004] in Jerusalem, [3389] and dwell [3427] there, and go not forth [3318] thence any whither. [0575]

 Car sache bien qu'au jour où tu en sortiras et passeras le torrent de Cédron, tu mourras sans rémission: ton sang sera sur ta tête.

 For it shall be, [that] on the day [3117] thou goest out, [3318] and passest over [5674] the brook [5158] Kidron, [6939] thou shalt know [3045] for certain [3045] that thou shalt surely [4191] die: [4191] thy blood [1818] shall be upon thine own head. [7218]

 Et Shimeï répondit au roi: Cette parole est bonne; ton serviteur fera tout ce qu'a dit le roi, mon seigneur. Ainsi Shimeï demeura un certain temps à Jérusalem.

 And Shimei [8096] said [0559] unto the king, [4428] The saying [1697] [is] good: [2896] as my lord [0113] the king [4428] hath said, [1696] so will thy servant [5650] do. [6213] And Shimei [8096] dwelt [3427] in Jerusalem [3389] many [7227] days. [3117]

 Mais il arriva qu'au bout de trois ans, deux serviteurs de Shimeï s'enfuirent vers Akish, fils de Maaca, roi de Gath; et on le rapporta à Shimeï, en disant: Voici, tes serviteurs sont à Gath.

 And it came to pass at the end [7093] of three [7969] years, [8141] that two [8147] of the servants [5650] of Shimei [8096] ran away [1272] unto Achish [0397] son [1121] of Maachah [4601] king [4428] of Gath. [1661] And they told [5046] Shimei, [8096] saying, [0559] Behold, thy servants [5650] [be] in Gath. [1661]

 Et Shimeï se leva et sella son âne, et s'en alla à Gath vers Akish, pour chercher ses serviteurs. Shimeï s'en alla donc et ramena de Gath ses serviteurs.

 And Shimei [8096] arose, [6965] and saddled [2280] his ass, [2543] and went [3212] to Gath [1661] to Achish [0397] to seek [1245] his servants: [5650] and Shimei [8096] went, [3212] and brought [0935] his servants [5650] from Gath. [1661]

 Or on rapporta à Salomon que Shimeï était allé de Jérusalem à Gath, et qu'il était de retour.

 And it was told [5046] Solomon [8010] that Shimei [8096] had gone [1980] from Jerusalem [3389] to Gath, [1661] and was come again. [7725]

 Et le roi envoya appeler Shimeï et lui dit: Ne t'avais-je pas fait jurer par YEHOVAH, et ne t'avais-je pas protesté, en disant: Sache bien qu'au jour où tu sortiras et où tu iras de côté ou d'autre, tu mourras sans rémission? Et ne me répondis-tu pas: Cette parole est bonne; j'ai entendu?

 And the king [4428] sent [7971] and called [7121] for Shimei, [8096] and said [0559] unto him, Did I not make thee to swear [7650] by the LORD, [3068] and protested [5749] unto thee, saying, [0559] Know [3045] for a certain, [3045] on the day [3117] thou goest out, [3318] and walkest [1980] abroad any whither, [0575] that thou shalt surely [4191] die? [4191] and thou saidst [0559] unto me, The word [1697] [that] I have heard [8085] [is] good. [2896]

 Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas gardé le serment de YEHOVAH et le commandement que je t'avais donné?

 Why then hast thou not kept [8104] the oath [7621] of the LORD, [3068] and the commandment [4687] that I have charged [6680] thee with?

 Et le roi dit à Shimeï: Tu sais tout le mal que tu as fait à David, mon père, et tu en es convaincu dans ton cœur; aussi YEHOVAH fait retomber ta méchanceté sur ta tête.

 The king [4428] said [0559] moreover to Shimei, [8096] Thou knowest [3045] all the wickedness [7451] which thine heart [3824] is privy to, [3045] that thou didst [6213] to David [1732] my father: [0001] therefore the LORD [3068] shall return [7725] thy wickedness [7451] upon thine own head; [7218]

 Mais le roi Salomon sera béni, et le trône de David sera affermi devant YEHOVAH à jamais.

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] [shall be] blessed, [1288] and the throne [3678] of David [1732] shall be established [3559] before [6440] the LORD [3068] for [5704] ever. [5769]

 Et le roi donna ordre à Bénaja, fils de Jéhojada, qui sortit et se jeta sur lui; et il mourut. Et la royauté fut affermie entre les mains de Salomon.

 So the king [4428] commanded [6680] Benaiah [1141] the son [1121] of Jehoiada; [3077] which went out, [3318] and fell [6293] upon him, that he died. [4191] And the kingdom [4467] was established [3559] in the hand [3027] of Solomon. [8010]

 Or, Salomon s'allia avec Pharaon, roi d'Égypte; et il épousa la fille de Pharaon, qu'il amena dans la ville de David, jusqu'à ce qu'il eût achevé de bâtir sa maison et la maison de YEHOVAH, ainsi que la muraille autour de Jérusalem.

 And Solomon [8010] made affinity [2859] with Pharaoh [6547] king [4428] of Egypt, [4714] and took [3947] Pharaoh's [6547] daughter, [1323] and brought [0935] her into the city [5892] of David, [1732] until he had made an end [3615] of building [1129] his own house, [1004] and the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068] and the wall [2346] of Jerusalem [3389] round about. [5439]

 Le peuple sacrifiait seulement sur les hauts lieux, parce que jusqu'alors on n'avait pas bâti de maison au nom de YEHOVAH.

 Only the people [5971] sacrificed [2076] in high places, [1116] because there was no house [1004] built [1129] unto the name [8034] of the LORD, [3068] until those days. [3117]

 Et Salomon aimait YEHOVAH et suivait les ordonnances de David, son père; seulement il offrait les sacrifices et le parfum sur les hauts lieux.

 And Solomon [8010] loved [0157] the LORD, [3068] walking [3212] in the statutes [2708] of David [1732] his father: [0001] only he sacrificed [2076] and burnt incense [6999] in high places. [1116]

 Le roi s'en alla donc à Gabaon pour y sacrifier; car c'était le plus considérable des hauts lieux; et Salomon offrit mille offrandes à brûler sur cet autel.

 And the king [4428] went [3212] to Gibeon [1391] to sacrifice [2076] there; for that [1931] [was] the great [1419] high place: [1116] a thousand [0505] burnt offerings [5930] did Solomon [8010] offer [5927] upon that altar. [4196]

 À Gabaon, YEHOVAH apparut en songe à Salomon, pendant la nuit, et Dieu lui dit: Demande ce que tu veux que je te donne.

 In Gibeon [1391] the LORD [3068] appeared [7200] to Solomon [8010] in a dream [2472] by night: [3915] and God [0430] said, [0559] Ask [7592] what I shall give [5414] thee.

 Et Salomon dit: Tu as usé d'une grande bienveillance envers ton serviteur David, mon père, selon qu'il a marché en ta présence dans la vérité, dans la justice et dans la droiture de son cœur devant toi; et tu lui as conservé cette grande bienveillance, et lui as donné un fils qui est assis sur son trône, comme il paraît aujourd'hui.

 And Solomon [8010] said, [0559] Thou hast shewed [6213] unto thy servant [5650] David [1732] my father [0001] great [1419] mercy, [2617] according as he walked [1980] before [6440] thee in truth, [0571] and in righteousness, [6666] and in uprightness [3483] of heart [3824] with thee; and thou hast kept [8104] for him this great [1419] kindness, [2617] that thou hast given [5414] him a son [1121] to sit [3427] on his throne, [3678] as [it is] this day. [3117]

 Et maintenant, ô YEHOVAH mon Dieu, tu as fait régner ton serviteur à la place de David, mon père; et moi je ne suis qu'un tout jeune homme; je ne sais pas me conduire.

 And now, O LORD [3068] my God, [0430] thou hast made thy servant [5650] king [4427] instead of David [1732] my father: [0001] and I [am but] a little [6996] child: [5288] I know [3045] not [how] to go out [3318] or come in. [0935]

 Et ton serviteur est au milieu du peuple que tu as choisi, ce grand peuple qui ne se peut dénombrer ni compter à cause de sa multitude.

 And thy servant [5650] [is] in the midst [8432] of thy people [5971] which thou hast chosen, [0977] a great [7227] people, [5971] that cannot be numbered [4487] nor counted [5608] for multitude. [7230]

 Donne donc à ton serviteur un cœur intelligent, pour juger ton peuple, et pour discerner entre le bien et le mal; car qui pourrait juger ton peuple, ce peuple si nombreux?

 Give [5414] therefore thy servant [5650] an understanding [8085] heart [3820] to judge [8199] thy people, [5971] that I may discern [0995] between good [2896] and bad: [7451] for who is able [3201] to judge [8199] this thy so great [3515] a people? [5971]

 Or ce discours plut au Seigneur, en ce que Salomon lui avait fait cette demande.

 And the speech [1697] pleased [3190] [5869] the Lord, [0136] that Solomon [8010] had asked [7592] this thing. [1697]

 Et Dieu lui dit: Puisque tu m'as fait cette demande, et que tu n'as demandé ni une longue vie, ni des richesses, ni la mort de tes ennemis, mais que tu as demandé de l'intelligence pour rendre la justice:

 And God [0430] said [0559] unto him, Because thou hast asked [7592] this thing, [1697] and hast not asked [7592] for thyself long [7227] life; [3117] neither hast asked [7592] riches [6239] for thyself, nor hast asked [7592] the life [5315] of thine enemies; [0341] but hast asked [7592] for thyself understanding [0995] to discern [8085] judgment; [4941]

 Voici, je fais selon ta parole. Je te donne un cœur sage et intelligent, de sorte qu'avant toi nul n'aura été pareil à toi, et qu'il n'y en aura point après toi qui te soit semblable.

 Behold, I have done [6213] according to thy words: [1697] lo, I have given [5414] thee a wise [2450] and an understanding [0995] heart; [3820] so that there was none like thee before [6440] thee, neither after [0310] thee shall any arise [6965] like unto thee.

 Et même, je te donne ce que tu n'as pas demandé, et les richesses et la gloire; de sorte qu'entre les rois il n'y en aura point de semblable à toi, pendant tous les jours de ta vie.

 And I have also given [5414] thee that which thou hast not asked, [7592] both riches, [6239] and honour: [3519] so that there shall not be any [0376] among the kings [4428] like unto thee all thy days. [3117]

 Et si tu marches dans mes voies, gardant mes statuts et mes ordonnances, comme y a marché David, ton père, je prolongerai tes jours.

 And if thou wilt walk [3212] in my ways, [1870] to keep [8104] my statutes [2706] and my commandments, [4687] as thy father [0001] David [1732] did walk, [1980] then I will lengthen [0748] thy days. [3117]

 Alors Salomon se réveilla, et voici, c'était un songe. Puis il vint à Jérusalem, et se tint devant l'arche de l'alliance de YEHOVAH; et il offrit des offrandes à brûler et des sacrifices de prospérités, et fit un festin à tous ses serviteurs.

 And Solomon [8010] awoke; [3364] and, behold, [it was] a dream.  Alors deux femmes de mauvaise vie vinrent vers le roi, et se présentèrent devant lui.

 Then came [0935] there two [8147] women, [0802] [that were] harlots, [2181] unto the king, [4428] and stood [5975] before [6440] him.

 Et l'une de ces femmes dit: Ah! mon seigneur! nous demeurions, cette femme et moi, dans le même logis, et je suis accouchée près d'elle dans cette maison-là.

 And the one [0259] woman [0802] said, [0559] O [0994] my lord, [0113] I and this woman [0802] dwell [3427] in one [0259] house; [1004] and I was delivered of a child [3205] with her in the house. [1004]

 Le troisième jour après mes couches, cette femme est aussi accouchée, et nous étions ensemble; personne d'autre n'était avec nous dans cette maison; il n'y avait que nous deux.

 And it came to pass the third [7992] day [3117] after that I was delivered, [3205] that this woman [0802] was delivered [3205] also: and we [were] together; [3162] [there was] no stranger [2114] with us in the house, [1004] save [2108] we two [8147] in the house. [1004]

 Or le fils de cette femme est mort pendant la nuit, parce qu'elle s'était couchée sur lui.

 And this woman's [0802] child [1121] died [4191] in the night; [3915] because she overlaid [7901] it.

 Et elle s'est levée au milieu de la nuit, et a pris mon fils que j'avais près de moi, pendant que ta servante dormait; et elle l'a couché dans son sein, et elle a couché son fils mort dans mon sein.

 And she arose [6965] at midnight, [8432] [3915] and took [3947] my son [1121] from beside [0681] me, while thine handmaid [0519] slept, [3463] and laid [7901] it in her bosom, [2436] and laid [7901] her dead [4191] child [1121] in my bosom. [2436]

 Puis, le matin, je me suis levée pour allaiter mon fils, et voici, il était mort; mais je l'ai considéré avec attention le matin, et voici, ce n'était pas mon fils que j'avais enfanté.

 And when I rose [6965] in the morning [1242] to give my child [1121] suck, [3243] behold, it was dead: [4191] but when I had considered [0995] it in the morning, [1242] behold, it was not my son, [1121] which I did bear. [3205]

 Et l'autre femme répliqua: Non, celui qui vit est mon fils, et celui qui est mort est ton fils. Mais celle-là dit: Non, celui qui est mort est ton fils, et celui qui vit est mon fils. C'est ainsi qu'elles parlaient devant le roi.

 And the other [0312] woman [0802] said, [0559] Nay; but the living [2416] [is] my son, [1121] and the dead [4191] [is] thy son. [1121] And this said, [0559] No; but the dead [4191] [is] thy son, [1121] and the living [2416] [is] my son. [1121] Thus they spake [1696] before [6440] the king. [4428]

 Et le roi dit: L'une dit: C'est mon fils qui est vivant, et ton fils qui est mort; et l'autre dit: Non; mais c'est ton fils qui est mort, et celui qui vit est mon fils.

 Then said [0559] the king, [4428] The one [2063] saith, [0559] This [is] my son [1121] that liveth, [2416] and thy son [1121] [is] the dead: [4191] and the other [2063] saith, [0559] Nay; but thy son [1121] [is] the dead, [4191] and my son [1121] [is] the living. [2416]

 Et le roi dit: Apportez-moi une épée! Et on apporta une épée devant le roi.

 And the king [4428] said, [0559] Bring [3947] me a sword. [2719] And they brought [0935] a sword [2719] before [6440] the king. [4428]

 Puis le roi dit: Partagez en deux l'enfant qui vit, et donnez-en la moitié à l'une et la moitié à l'autre.

 And the king [4428] said, [0559] Divide [1504] the living [2416] child [3206] in two, [8147] and give [5414] half [2677] to the one, [0259] and half [2677] to the other. [0259]

 Alors la femme dont le fils vivait, dit au roi (car ses entrailles furent émues au sujet de son fils): Ah! mon seigneur! donnez-lui l'enfant qui vit, et qu'on se garde bien de le faire mourir! tandis que l'autre disait: Il ne sera ni à moi ni à toi; partagez-le!

 Then spake [0559] the woman [0802] whose the living [2416] child [1121] [was] unto the king, [4428] for her bowels [7356] yearned [3648] upon her son, [1121] and she said, [0559] O [0994] my lord, [0113] give [5414] her the living [2416] child, [3205] and in no wise [4191] slay [4191] it. But the other said, [0559] Let it be neither mine nor thine, [but] divide [1504] [it].

 Alors le roi répondit, et dit: Donnez à celle-là l'enfant qui vit, et gardez-vous de le faire mourir: c'est elle qui est la mère.

 Then the king [4428] answered [6030] and said, [0559] Give [5414] her the living [2416] child, [3205] and in no wise [4191] slay [4191] it: she [is] the mother [0517] thereof.

 Et tout Israël, ayant su le jugement que le roi avait prononcé, craignit le roi; car on vit qu'il y avait en lui une sagesse divine pour rendre la justice.

 And all Israel [3478] heard [8085] of the judgment [4941] which the king [4428] had judged; [8199] and they feared [3372] [6440] the king: [4228] for they saw [7200] that the wisdom [2451] of God [0430] [was] in [7130] him, to do [6213] judgment. [4941]

 Le roi Salomon fut donc roi sur tout Israël.

 So king [4428] Solomon [8010] was king [4428] over all Israel. [3478]

 Et voici quels étaient ses dignitaires: Azaria, fils du sacrificateur Tsadok,

 And these [were] the princes [8269] which he had; Azariah [5838] the son [1121] of Zadok [6659] the priest, [3548]

 Élihoreph et Achija, fils de Shisha, étaient secrétaires; Jéhoshaphat, fils d'Achilud, était archiviste;

 Achishar, grand-maître de la maison; et Adoniram, fils d'Abda, commis sur les impôts.

 And Ahishar [0301] [was] over the household: [1004] and Adoniram [0141] the son [1121] of Abda [5653] [was] over the tribute. [4522]

 Or Salomon avait douze intendants préposés sur tout Israël, et ils entretenaient le roi et sa maison; et chacun était chargé de cet entretien pendant un mois de l'année.

 And Solomon [8010] had twelve [8147] [6240] officers [5324] over all Israel, [3478] which provided victuals [3557] for the king [4428] and his household: [1004] each man [0259] his month [2320] in a year [8141] made provision. [3557]

 Voici leurs noms: le fils de Hur, dans la montagne d'Éphraïm;

 Le fils de Hésed à Arubboth; il avait Soco et tout le pays de Hépher.

 Le fils d'Abinadab avait toute la contrée de Dor; il eut Taphath, fille de Salomon, pour femme.

 The son [1121] of Abinadab, [0041] in all the region [5299] of Dor; [1756] which had Taphath [2955] the daughter [1323] of Solomon [8010] to wife: [0802]

 Baana, fils d'Achilud, avait Thaanac, et Méguiddo, et tout le pays de Beth-Shéan, qui est vers Tsarthan, au-dessous de Jizréel, depuis Beth-Shéan jusqu'à Abel-Méhola, et jusqu'au delà de Jokméam.

 Le fils de Guéber était à Ramoth de Galaad; il avait les bourgs de Jaïr, fils de Manassé, en Galaad; il avait aussi la contrée d'Argob, en Bassan, soixante grandes villes à murailles et à barres d'airain.

 The son of Geber, [1127] in Ramothgilead; [1568] [7433] to him [pertained] the towns [2333] of Jair [2971] the son [1121] of Manasseh, [4519] which [are] in Gilead; [1568] to him [also pertained] the region [2256] of Argob, [0709] which [is] in Bashan, [1316] threescore [8346] great [1419] cities [5892] with walls [2346] and brasen [5178] bars: [1280]

 Achinadab, fils d'Iddo, à Mahanaïm;

 Achimaats, en Nephthali; lui aussi prit pour femme une fille de Salomon, Basmath.

 Ahimaaz [0290] [was] in Naphtali; [5321] he also took [3947] Basmath [1315] the daughter [1323] of Solomon [8010] to wife: [0802]

 Baana, fils de Cushaï, en Asser et à Aloth;

 Baanah [1195] the son [1121] of Hushai [2365] [was] in Asher [0836] and in Aloth: [1175]

 Jéhoshaphat, fils de Paruach, en Issacar;

 Jehoshaphat [3092] the son [1121] of Paruah, [6515] in Issachar: [3485]

 Shimeï, fils d'Éla, en Benjamin;

 Guéber, fils d'Uri, au pays de Galaad, le pays de Sihon, roi des Amoréens et d'Og, roi de Bassan; et il était seul intendant de ce pays-là.

 Juda et Israël étaient comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer, tant ils étaient en grand nombre; ils mangeaient, buvaient et se réjouissaient.

 Judah [3063] and Israel [3478] [were] many, [7227] as the sand [2344] which [is] by the sea [3220] in multitude, [7230] eating [0398] and drinking, [8354] and making merry. [8056]

 Et Salomon dominait sur tous les royaumes, depuis le fleuve jusqu'au pays des Philistins et à la frontière d'Égypte; ils apportaient des présents, et furent assujettis à Salomon tout le temps de sa vie.

 And Solomon [8010] reigned [4910] over all kingdoms [4467] from the river [5104] unto the land [0776] of the Philistines, [6430] and unto the border [1366] of Egypt: [4714] they brought [5066] presents, [4503] and served [5647] Solomon [8010] all the days [3117] of his life. [2416]

 Or les vivres de Salomon étaient, pour chaque jour: trente cores de fleur de farine et soixante cores de farine;

 And Solomon's [8010] provision [3899] for one [0259] day [3117] was thirty [7970] measures [3734] of fine flour, [5560] and threescore [8346] measures [3734] of meal, [7058]

 Dix bœufs gras et vingt bœufs des pâturages, et cent moutons, sans les cerfs, les gazelles, les daims et les volailles engraissées.

 Ten [6235] fat [1277] oxen, [1241] and twenty [6242] oxen [1241] out of the pastures, [7471] and an hundred [3967] sheep, [6629] beside harts, [0354] and roebucks, [6643] and fallowdeer, [3180] and fatted [0075] fowl. [1257]

 Car il dominait sur tous les pays de ce côté-ci du fleuve, depuis Thiphsach jusqu'à Gaza, sur tous les rois de ce côté-ci du fleuve; et il avait la paix avec tous ses alentours, de tous côtés.

 For he had dominion [7287] over all [the region] on this side [5676] the river, [5104] from Tiphsah [8607] even to Azzah, [5804] over all the kings [4428] on this side [5676] the river: [5104] and he had peace [7965] on all sides [5650] [5676] round about [5439] him.

 Et Juda et Israël habitaient en sécurité, chacun sous sa vigne et sous son figuier, depuis Dan jusqu'à Béer-Shéba, pendant toute la vie de Salomon.

 And Judah [3063] and Israel [3478] dwelt [3427] safely, [0983] every man [0376] under his vine [1612] and under his fig tree, [8384] from Dan [1835] even to Beersheba, [0884] all the days [3117] of Solomon. [8010]

 Salomon avait aussi quarante mille attelages de chevaux pour ses chars et douze mille cavaliers.

 And Solomon [8010] had forty [0705] thousand [0505] stalls [0723] of horses [5483] for his chariots, [4817] and twelve [8147] [6240] thousand [0505] horsemen. [6571]

 Or les intendants pourvoyaient de vivres, chacun durant son mois, le roi Salomon et tous ceux qui s'approchaient de la table du roi Salomon; ils ne laissaient rien manquer.

 And those officers [5324] provided victual [3557] for king [4428] Solomon, [8010] and for all that came [7131] unto king [4428] Solomon's [8010] table, [7979] every man [0376] in his month: [2320] they lacked [5737] nothing. [1697]

 Ils faisaient aussi venir de l'orge et de la paille pour les chevaux de trait et les coursiers, chacun selon sa charge, au lieu où ils étaient.

 Barley [8184] also and straw [8401] for the horses [5483] and dromedaries [7409] brought [0935] they unto the place [4725] where [the officers] were, every man [0376] according to his charge. [4941]

 Et Dieu donna à Salomon de la sagesse, une fort grande intelligence, et un esprit aussi vaste que le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer.

 And God [0430] gave [5414] Solomon [8010] wisdom [2451] and understanding [8394] exceeding [3966] much, [7235] and largeness [7341] of heart, [3820] even as the sand [2344] that [is] on the sea [3220] shore. [8193]

 Et la sagesse de Salomon surpassait la sagesse de tous les Orientaux, et toute la sagesse des Égyptiens.

 And Solomon's [8010] wisdom [2451] excelled [7235] the wisdom [2451] of all the children [1121] of the east [6924] country, and all the wisdom [2451] of Egypt. [4714]

 Il était plus sage qu'aucun homme; plus qu'Éthan l'Ézrachite, et Héman, Calcol et Darda, les fils de Machol; et sa réputation se répandit parmi toutes les nations d'alentour.

 For he was wiser [2449] than all men; [0120] than Ethan [0387] the Ezrahite, [0250] and Heman, [1968] and Chalcol, [3633] and Darda, [1862] the sons [1121] of Mahol: [4235] and his fame [8034] was in all nations [1471] round about. [5439]

 Il prononça trois mille sentences, et ses cantiques furent au nombre de mille et cinq.

 And he spake [1696] three [7969] thousand [0505] proverbs: [4912] and his songs [7892] were a thousand [0505] and five. [2568]

 Il a aussi parlé des arbres, depuis le cèdre qui est au Liban jusqu'à l'hysope qui sort de la muraille; il a aussi parlé des animaux, des oiseaux, des reptiles et des poissons.

 And he spake [1696] of trees, [6086] from the cedar tree [0730] that [is] in Lebanon [3844] even unto the hyssop [0231] that springeth out [3318] of the wall: [7023] he spake [1696] also of beasts, [0929] and of fowl, [5775] and of creeping things, [7431] and of fishes. [1709]

 Et, de tous les peuples, on venait pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon, de la part de tous les rois de la terre, qui avaient entendu parler de sa sagesse.

 And there came [0935] of all people [5971] to hear [8085] the wisdom [2451] of Solomon, [8010] from all kings [4428] of the earth, [0776] which had heard [8085] of his wisdom. [2451]

 Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya de ses serviteurs vers Salomon, quand il eut appris qu'on l'avait oint pour roi à la place de son père; car Hiram avait toujours aimé David.

 And Hiram [2438] king [4428] of Tyre [6865] sent [7971] his servants [5650] unto Solomon; [8010] for he had heard [8085] that they had anointed [4886] him king [4428] in the room of his father: [0001] for Hiram [2438] was ever [3605] [3117] a lover [0157] of David. [1732]

 Et Salomon envoya vers Hiram, pour lui dire:

 And Solomon [8010] sent [7971] to Hiram, [2438] saying, [0559]

 Tu sais que David, mon père, n'a pu bâtir une maison au nom de YEHOVAH son Dieu, à cause de la guerre dont ses ennemis l'environnaient, jusqu'à ce que YEHOVAH les eût mis sous ses pieds.

 Thou knowest [3045] how that David [1732] my father [0001] could [3201] not build [1129] an house [1004] unto the name [8034] of the LORD [3068] his God [0430] for [6440] the wars [4421] which were about him on every side, [5437] until the LORD [3068] put [5414] them under the soles [3709] of his feet. [7272]

 Et maintenant YEHOVAH mon Dieu m'a donné du repos de toutes parts; je n'ai point d'adversaire ni d'affaire fâcheuse.

 But now the LORD [3068] my God [0430] hath given me rest [5117] on every side, [5439] [so that there is] neither adversary [7854] nor evil [7451] occurrent. [6294]

 Voici donc, je me propose de bâtir une maison au nom de YEHOVAH mon Dieu, selon que YEHOVAH en a parlé à David, mon père, en disant: Ton fils, que je mettrai à ta place sur ton trône, sera celui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom.

 And, behold, I purpose [0559] to build [1129] an house [1004] unto the name [8034] of the LORD [3068] my God, [0430] as the LORD [3068] spake [1696] unto David [1732] my father, [0001] saying, [0559] Thy son, [1121] whom I will set [5414] upon thy throne [3678] in thy room, he shall build [1129] an house [1004] unto my name. [8034]

 Et maintenant, commande qu'on me coupe des cèdres du Liban; mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs; et je te donnerai pour tes serviteurs le salaire que tu demanderas; car tu sais qu'il n'y a personne parmi nous qui s'entende à couper les bois comme les Sidoniens.

 Now therefore command [6680] thou that they hew [3772] me cedar trees [0730] out of Lebanon; [3844] and my servants [5650] shall be with thy servants: [5650] and unto thee will I give [5414] hire [7939] for thy servants [5650] according to all that thou shalt appoint: [0559] for thou knowest [3045] that [there is] not among us any [0376] that can skill [3045] to hew [3772] timber [6086] like unto the Sidonians.  Quand Hiram entendit les paroles de Salomon, il en eut une grande joie, et il dit: Béni soit aujourd'hui YEHOVAH, qui a donné à David un fils sage, pour régner sur ce grand peuple!

 And it came to pass, when Hiram [2438] heard [8085] the words [1697] of Solomon, [8010] that he rejoiced [8055] greatly, [3966] and said, [0559] Blessed [1288] [be] the LORD [3068] this day, [3117] which hath given [5414] unto David [1732] a wise [2450] son [1121] over this great [7227] people. [5971]

 Et Hiram envoya vers Salomon, pour lui dire: J'ai entendu ce que tu m'as mandé. Je ferai tout ce que tu voudras, quant au bois de cèdre et au bois de cyprès.

 And Hiram [2438] sent [7971] to Solomon, [8010] saying, [0559] I have considered [8085] the things which thou sentest [7971] to me for: [and] I will do [6213] all thy desire [2656] concerning timber [6086] of cedar, [0730] and concerning timber [6086] of fir. [1265]

 Mes serviteurs les descendront du Liban à la mer; puis je les ferai mettre sur la mer en radeaux, jusqu'au lieu que tu m'auras marqué, et je les ferai délivrer là; tu les y prendras; mais, de ton côté, tu me satisferas en fournissant de vivres ma maison.

 My servants [5650] shall bring [them] down [3381] from Lebanon [3844] unto the sea: [3220] and I will convey [7760] them by sea [3220] in floats [1702] unto the place [4725] that thou shalt appoint [7971] me, and will cause them to be discharged [5310] there, and thou shalt receive [5375] [them]: and thou shalt accomplish [6213] my desire, [2656] in giving [5414] food [3899] for my household. [1004]

 Hiram donc donna du bois de cèdre et du bois de cyprès à Salomon, autant qu'il en voulut.

 So Hiram [2438] gave [5414] Solomon [8010] cedar [0730] trees [6086] and fir [1265] trees [6086] [according to] all his desire. [2656]

 Et Salomon donnait à Hiram vingt mille cores de froment, pour la nourriture de sa maison, et vingt cores d'huile très pure. Salomon en donnait autant à Hiram chaque année.

 And Solomon [8010] gave [5414] Hiram [2438] twenty [6242] thousand [0505] measures [3734] of wheat [2406] [for] food [4361] to his household, [1004] and twenty [6242] measures [3734] of pure [3795] oil: [8081] thus gave [5414] Solomon [8010] to Hiram [2438] year [8141] by year. [8141]

 YEHOVAH donna donc de la sagesse à Salomon, comme il lui en avait parlé. Et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils traitèrent alliance ensemble.

 And the LORD [3068] gave [5414] Solomon [8010] wisdom, [2451] as he promised [1696] him: and there was peace [7965] between Hiram [2438] and Solomon; [8010] and they two [8147] made [3772] a league [1285] together.

 Et le roi Salomon leva des gens de corvée dans tout Israël; et la corvée fut de trente mille hommes.

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] raised [5927] a levy [4522] out of all Israel; [3478] and the levy [4522] was thirty [7970] thousand [0505] men. [0376]

 Et il les envoyait au Liban tour à tour, dix mille chaque mois; ils étaient un mois au Liban et deux mois chez eux; et Adoniram était préposé à la corvée.

 And he sent [7971] them to Lebanon, [3844] ten [6235] thousand [0505] a month [2320] by courses: [2487] a month [2320] they were in Lebanon, [3844] [and] two [8147] months [2320] at home: [1004] and Adoniram [0141] [was] over the levy. [4522]

 Salomon eut aussi soixante et dix mille hommes qui portaient les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille qui taillaient dans la montagne;

 And Solomon [8010] had threescore and ten [7657] thousand [0505] that bare [5375] burdens, [5449] and fourscore [8084] thousand [0505] hewers [2672] in the mountains; [2022]

 Outre les chefs préposés par Salomon, qui avaient la direction de l'ouvrage, au nombre de trois mille trois cents, et qui commandaient le peuple qui travaillait.

 Beside the chief [8269] of Solomon's [8010] officers [5324] which [were] over the work, [4399] three [7969] thousand [0505] and three [7969] hundred, [3967] which ruled [7287] over the people [5971] that wrought [6213] in the work. [4399]

 Et le roi commanda d'extraire de grandes pierres, des pierres de prix, pour faire de pierres de taille les fondements de la maison.

 And the king [4428] commanded, [6680] and they brought [5265] great [1419] stones, [0068] costly [3368] stones, [0068] [and] hewed [1496] stones, [0068] to lay the foundation [3245] of the house. [1004]

 Et les ouvriers de Salomon, et les ouvriers de Hiram, et les Guibliens taillèrent et préparèrent le bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.

 And Solomon's [8010] builders [1129] and Hiram's [2438] builders [1129] did hew [6458] [them], and the stonesquarers: [1382] so they prepared [3559] timber [6086] and stones [0068] to build [1129] the house. [1004]

 Le portique devant le temple de la maison avait vingt coudées de long, selon la largeur de la maison, et dix coudées de large devant la maison.

 And the porch [0197] before [6440] the temple [1964] of the house, [1004] twenty [6242] cubits [0520] [was] the length [0753] thereof, according to [6440] the breadth [7341] of the house; [1004] [and] ten [6235] cubits [0520] [was] the breadth [7341] thereof before [6440] the house. [1004]

 Il fit aussi à la maison des fenêtres à jalousies fixes.

 And for the house [1004] he made [6213] windows [2474] of narrow [0331] lights. [8261]

 Et il bâtit, contre la muraille de la maison, à l'entour, un corps d'étages, entourant les murs de la maison, le temple et le sanctuaire; ainsi il fit des chambres latérales tout autour.

 And against the wall [7023] of the house [1004] he built [1129] chambers [3326] [3326] round about, [5439] [against] the walls [7023] of the house [1004] round about, [5439] [both] of the temple [1964] and of the oracle: [1687] and he made [6213] chambers [6763] round about: [5439]

 La largeur de l'étage d'en bas était de cinq coudées; la largeur de celui du milieu de six coudées, et la largeur du troisième de sept coudées; car il avait fait en retraite le mur de la maison par dehors, tout autour, afin que la charpente n'entrât pas dans les murailles de la maison.

 The nethermost [8481] chamber [3326] [3326] [was] five [2568] cubits [0520] broad, [7341] and the middle [8484] [was] six [8337] cubits [0520] broad, [7341] and the third [7992] [was] seven [7651] cubits [0520] broad: [7341] for without [2351] [in the wall] of the house [1004] he made [5414] narrowed rests [4052] round about, [5439] that [the beams] should not be fastened [0270] in the walls [7023] of the house.  Or, en bâtissant la maison, on la bâtit de pierres toutes préparées dans la carrière; de sorte que ni marteau, ni hache, ni aucun outil de fer ne furent entendus dans la maison quand on la bâtissait.

 And the house, [1004] when it was in building, [1129] was built [1129] of stone [0068] made ready [8003] before it was brought [4551] thither: so that there was neither hammer [4717] nor axe [1631] [nor] any tool [3627] of iron [1270] heard [8085] in the house, [1004] while it was in building. [1129]

 L'entrée des chambres du milieu était au côté droit de la maison; et on montait par un escalier tournant à l'étage du milieu, et de celui du milieu au troisième.

 The door [6607] for the middle [8484] chamber [6763] [was] in the right [3233] side [3802] of the house: [1004] and they went up [5927] with winding stairs [3883] into the middle [8484] [chamber], and out of the middle [8484] into the third. [7992]

 Il bâtit donc la maison et l'acheva. Et il couvrit la maison de planches et de poutres de cèdre.

 So he built [1129] the house, [1004] and finished [3615] it; and covered [5603] the house [1004] with beams [1356] and boards [7713] of cedar. [0730]

 Et il bâtit les étages contre toute la maison, chacun de cinq coudées de haut; et ils tenaient à la maison par des bois de cèdre.

 And [then] he built [1129] chambers [3326] [3326] against all the house, [1004] five [2568] cubits [0520] high: [6967] and they rested [0270] on the house [1004] [with] timber [6086] of cedar. [0730]

 Alors la Parole de YEHOVAH fut adressée à Salomon, en ces termes:

 And the word [1697] of the LORD [3068] came to Solomon, [8010] saying, [0559]

 Quant à cette maison que tu bâtis, si tu marches dans mes statuts, et si tu pratiques mes ordonnances, et si tu gardes tous mes commandements, pour y marcher, j'accomplirai à ton égard la parole que j'ai dite à David ton père;

 [Concerning] this house [1004] which thou art in building, [1129] if thou wilt walk [3212] in my statutes, [2708] and execute [6213] my judgments, [4941] and keep [8104] all my commandments [4687] to walk [3212] in them; then will I perform [6965] my word [1697] with thee, which I spake [1696] unto David [1732] thy father: [0001]

 Et j'habiterai au milieu des enfants d'Israël, et n'abandonnerai point mon peuple d'Israël.

 And I will dwell [7931] among [8432] the children [1121] of Israel, [3478] and will not forsake [5800] my people [5971] Israel. [3478]

 Ainsi Salomon bâtit la maison et l'acheva.

 So Solomon [8010] built [1129] the house, [1004] and finished [3615] it.

 Il lambrissa les murailles de la maison, par dedans, de planches de cèdre, depuis le sol de la maison jusqu'aux parois de la toiture; il couvrit de bois tout le dedans; et il revêtit le sol de la maison de planches de cyprès.

 And he built [1129] the walls [7023] of the house [1004] within [1004] with boards [6763] of cedar, [0730] both the floor [7172] of the house, [1004] and the walls [7023] of the cieling: [5604] [and] he covered [6823] [them] on the inside [1004] with wood, [6086] and covered [6823] the floor [7172] of the house [1004] with planks [6763] of fir.  Il lambrissa aussi de planches de cèdre vingt coudées à partir du fond de la maison, tant le sol que les murailles; il lambrissa ainsi intérieurement cet espace pour le sanctuaire, le lieu très-saint.

 And he built [1129] twenty [6242] cubits [0520] on the sides [3411] of the house, [1004] both [4480] the floor [7172] and the walls [7023] with boards [6763] of cedar: [0730] he even built [1129] [them] for it within, [1004] [even] for the oracle, [1687] [even] for the most [6944] holy [6944] [place].

 Mais les quarante coudées sur le devant formaient la maison, savoir le temple.

 And the house, [1004] that [is], the temple [1964] before it, [3942] was forty [0705] cubits [0520] [long].

 Et le cèdre, au-dedans de la maison, était sculpté en coloquintes et en fleurs épanouies; tout était de cèdre; la pierre ne se voyait pas.

 And the cedar [0730] of the house [1004] within [6441] [was] carved [4734] with knops [6497] and open [6358] flowers: [6731] all [was] cedar; [0730] there was no stone [0068] seen. [7200]

 Quant au sanctuaire, il l'établit à l'intérieur de la maison vers le fond, pour y mettre l'arche de l'alliance de YEHOVAH.

 And the oracle [1687] he prepared [3559] in [8432] the house [1004] within, [6441] to set [5414] there the ark [0727] of the covenant [1285] of the LORD. [3068]

 Et le sanctuaire avait par-devant vingt coudées de long, vingt coudées de large et vingt coudées de haut; il le couvrit d'or fin; il en couvrit aussi l'autel, qui était en cèdre.

 And the oracle [1687] in the forepart [6440] [was] twenty [6242] cubits [0520] in length, [0753] and twenty [6242] cubits [0520] in breadth, [7341] and twenty [6242] cubits [0520] in the height [6967] thereof: and he overlaid [6823] it with pure [5462] gold; [2091] and [so] covered [6823] the altar [4196] [which was of] cedar.  Et Salomon couvrit d'or fin l'intérieur de la maison; et il fit passer le voile avec des chaînes d'or au-devant du sanctuaire, qu'il couvrit d'or.

 So Solomon [8010] overlaid [6823] the house [1004] within [6441] with pure [5462] gold: [2091] and he made a partition [5674] by the chains [7572] [7572] of gold [2091] before [6440] the oracle; [1687] and he overlaid [6823] it with gold. [2091]

 Ainsi il couvrit d'or la maison tout entière; il couvrit aussi d'or tout l'autel du sanctuaire.

 And the whole house [1004] he overlaid [6823] with gold, [2091] until he had finished [8552] all the house: [1004] also the whole altar [4196] that [was] by the oracle [1687] he overlaid [6823] with gold. [2091]

 Et il fit dans le sanctuaire deux Voyants de bois d'olivier, de dix coudées de haut.

 And within the oracle [1687] he made [6213] two [8147] cherubims [3742] [of] olive [8081] tree, [6086] [each] ten [6235] cubits [0520] high. [6967]

 L'une des ailes d'un des Voyants avait cinq coudées, et l'autre aile du Voyant avait cinq coudées; depuis le bout d'une aile jusqu'au bout de l'autre aile, il y avait dix coudées.

 And five [2568] cubits [0520] [was] the one [0259] wing [3671] of the cherub, [3742] and five [2568] cubits [0520] the other [8145] wing [3671] of the cherub: [3742] from the uttermost part [7098] of the one wing [3671] unto the uttermost part [7098] of the other [3671] [were] ten [6235] cubits.  Le second Voyant était aussi de dix coudées. Les deux Voyants étaient d'une même mesure et taillés l'un comme l'autre.

 And the other [8145] cherub [3742] [was] ten [6235] cubits: [0520] both [8147] the cherubims [3742] [were] of one [0259] measure [4060] and one [0259] size. [7095]

 La hauteur d'un Voyant était de dix coudées, et l'autre Voyant était de même.

 The height [6967] of the one [0259] cherub [3742] [was] ten [6235] cubits, [0520] and so [was it] of the other [8145] cherub. [3742]

 Et il mit les Voyants au-dedans de la maison, vers le fond; et on étendit les ailes des Voyants, de sorte que l'aile de l'un touchait une muraille et l'aile de l'autre Voyant touchait l'autre muraille; et que leurs ailes se rencontraient au milieu de la maison, l'une des ailes touchant l'autre.

 And he set [5414] the cherubims [3742] within [8432] the inner [6442] house: [1004] and they stretched forth [6566] the wings [3671] of the cherubims, [3742] so that the wing [3671] of the one [0259] touched [5060] the [one] wall, [7023] and the wing [3671] of the other [8145] cherub [3742] touched [5060] the other [8145] wall; [7023] and their wings [3671] touched [5060] one [3671] another [3671] in the midst [8432] of the house. [1004]

 Et il couvrit d'or les Voyants.

 And he overlaid [6823] the cherubims [3742] with gold. [2091]

 Et sur toutes les murailles de la maison, tout autour, il fit sculpter en relief des Voyants, et des palmes, et des fleurs épanouies, tant au-dedans qu'au-dehors.

 And he carved [7049] all the walls [7023] of the house [1004] round about [4524] with carved [6603] figures [4734] of cherubims [3742] and palm trees [8561] and open [6358] flowers, [6731] within [6441] and without. [2435]

 Et il revêtit d'or le sol de la maison, tant au-dedans qu'au-dehors.

 And the floor [7172] of the house [1004] he overlaid [6823] with gold, [2091] within [6441] and without. [2435]

 Et il fit la porte du sanctuaire à deux battants, de bois d'olivier; l'encadrement avec les poteaux, occupait un cinquième de la paroi.

 And for the entering [6607] of the oracle [1687] he made [6213] doors [1817] [of] olive [8081] tree: [6086] the lintel [0352] [and] side posts [4201] [were] a fifth part [2549] [of the wall].

 Les deux battants étaient de bois d'olivier; et il y fit sculpter des Voyants, des palmes et des fleurs épanouies, et il les couvrit d'or, étendant l'or sur les Voyants et sur les palmes.

 The two [8147] doors [1817] also [were of] olive [8081] tree; [6086] and he carved [7049] upon them carvings [4734] of cherubims [3742] and palm trees [8561] and open [6358] flowers, [6731] and overlaid [6823] [them] with gold, [2091] and spread [7286] gold [2091] upon the cherubims, [3742] and upon the palm trees. [8561]

 Il fit aussi pour la porte du temple des poteaux de bois d'olivier, d'un quart de la paroi;

 So also made [6213] he for the door [6607] of the temple [1964] posts [4201] [of] olive [8081] tree, [6086] a fourth [7243] part [of the wall].

 Et deux battants de bois de cyprès; les deux pièces d'un des battants étaient brisées; et les deux pièces de l'autre battant étaient aussi brisées.

 And the two [8147] doors [1817] [were of] fir [1265] tree: [6086] the two [8147] leaves [6763] of the one [0259] door [1817] [were] folding, [1550] and the two [8147] leaves [7050] of the other [8145] door [1817] [were] folding. [1550]

 Et il y sculpta des Voyants, des palmes et des fleurs épanouies, et il les couvrit d'or, exactement appliqué sur les sculptures.

 And he carved [7049] [thereon] cherubims [3742] and palm trees [8561] and open [6358] flowers: [6731] and covered [6823] [them] with gold [2091] fitted [3474] upon the carved work. [2707]

 Il bâtit aussi le parvis intérieur de trois rangées de pierre de taille et d'une rangée de poutres de cèdre.

 And he built [1129] the inner [6442] court [2691] with three [7969] rows [2905] of hewed stone, [1496] and a row [2905] of cedar [0730] beams. [3773]

 La quatrième année, au mois de Ziv, les fondements de la maison de YEHOVAH furent posés;

 In the fourth [7243] year [8141] was the foundation of the house [1004] of the LORD [3068] laid, [3245] in the month [3391] Zif: [2099]

 Et la onzième année, au mois de Bul, qui est le huitième mois, la maison fut achevée, avec toutes ses appartenances et tous ses meubles. On mit sept ans à la bâtir.

 And in the eleventh [0259] [6240] year, [8141] in the month [3391] Bul, [0945] which [is] the eighth [8066] month, [2320] was the house [1004] finished [3615] throughout all the parts [1697] thereof, and according to all the fashion [4941] of it. So was he seven [7651] years [8141] in building [1129] it.

 Salomon bâtit aussi sa maison, et il l'acheva toute en treize ans.

 But Solomon [8010] was building [1129] his own house [1004] thirteen [7969] [6240] years, [8141] and he finished [3615] all his house. [1004]

 Il bâtit la maison de la Forêt du Liban, de cent coudées de long, de cinquante coudées de large, et de trente coudées de haut, sur quatre rangées de colonnes de cèdre et des poutres de cèdre placées sur les colonnes.

 He built [1129] also the house [1004] of the forest [3293] of Lebanon; [3844] the length [0753] thereof [was] an hundred [3967] cubits, [0520] and the breadth [7341] thereof fifty [2572] cubits, [0520] and the height [6967] thereof thirty [7970] cubits, [0520] upon four [0702] rows [2905] of cedar [0730] pillars, [5982] with cedar [0730] beams [3773] upon the pillars. [5982]

 Et il y avait des plafonds de cèdre aux chambres latérales, qui étaient sur les colonnes, au nombre de quarante-cinq, quinze par étage.

 And [it was] covered [5603] with cedar [0730] above [4605] upon the beams, [6763] that [lay] on forty [0705] five [2568] pillars, [5982] fifteen [2568] [6240] [in] a row. [2905]

 Et il y avait trois étages de fenêtres; une fenêtre répondant à une fenêtre, les trois fois.

 And [there were] windows [8261] [in] three [7969] rows, [2905] and light [4237] [was] against light [4237] [in] three [7969] ranks. [6471]

 Et toutes les portes et les poteaux étaient d'une charpente carrée; et aux trois étages, les ouvertures répondaient aux ouvertures vis-à-vis.

 And all the doors [6607] and posts [4201] [were] square, [7251] with the windows: [8260] and light [4237] [was] against [4136] light [4237] [in] three [7969] ranks. [6471]

 Il fit aussi le portique des colonnes, de cinquante coudées de long et de trente coudées de large, et devant elles un autre portique; en sorte qu'il y avait devant elles des colonnes et un perron.

 And he made [6213] a porch [0197] of pillars; [5982] the length [0753] thereof [was] fifty [2572] cubits, [0520] and the breadth [7341] thereof thirty [7970] cubits: [0520] and the porch [0197] [was] before [6440] them: and the [other] pillars [5982] and the thick beam [5646] [were] before [6440] them.

 Il fit aussi le portique du trône, où il rendait la justice, le portique du jugement; et on le couvrit de cèdre, depuis un plancher jusqu'à l'autre.

 Then he made [6213] a porch [0197] for the throne [3678] where he might judge, [8199] [even] the porch [0197] of judgment: [4941] and [it was] covered [5603] with cedar [0730] from one side of the floor [7172] to the other. [7172]

 Et sa maison où il demeurait, dans l'autre parvis, en dedans du portique, était d'une construction semblable. Et Salomon fit à la fille de Pharaon, qu'il avait épousée, une maison bâtie comme ce portique.

 And his house [1004] where he dwelt [3427] [had] another [0312] court [2691] within [1004] the porch, [0197] [which] was of the like work. [4639] Solomon [8010] made [6213] also an house [1004] for Pharaoh's [6547] daughter, [1323] whom he had taken [3947] [to wife], like unto this porch. [0197]

 Toutes ces constructions étaient de pierres de prix, taillées d'après des mesures, sciées à la scie en dedans et en dehors, des fondements aux corniches, et par dehors jusqu'au grand parvis.

 All these [were of] costly [3368] stones, [0068] according to the measures [4060] of hewed stones, [1496] sawed [1641] with saws, [4050] within [1004] and without, [2351] even from the foundation [4527] unto the coping, [2947] and [so] on the outside [2351] toward the great [1419] court. [2691]

 Le fondement était aussi de pierres de prix, de grandes pierres, de pierres de dix coudées et de pierres de huit coudées.

 And the foundation [3245] [was of] costly [3368] stones, [0068] even great [1419] stones, [0068] stones [0068] of ten [6235] cubits, [0520] and stones [0068] of eight [8083] cubits. [0520]

 Et au-dessus c'étaient des pierres de prix, taillées d'après des mesures, et du bois de cèdre.

 And above [4605] [were] costly [3368] stones, [0068] after the measures [4060] of hewed stones, [1496] and cedars. [0730]

 Et le grand parvis avait aussi, tout à l'entour, trois rangées de pierres de taille et une rangée de poutres de cèdre, comme le parvis intérieur de la maison de YEHOVAH et le portique de la maison.

 And the great [1419] court [2691] round about [5439] [was] with three [7969] rows [2905] of hewed stones, [1496] and a row [2905] of cedar [0730] beams, [3773] both for the inner [6442] court [2691] of the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068] and for the porch [0197] of the house. [1004]

 Or le roi Salomon avait fait venir de Tyr, Hiram, ouvrier en cuivre, qui était fils d'une femme veuve de la tribu de Nephthali et dont le père était Tyrien.

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] sent [7971] and fetched [3947] Hiram [2438] out of Tyre. [6865]

 Cet homme était fort expert, intelligent et savant pour faire toute sorte d'ouvrage d'airain; et il vint vers le roi Salomon, et il fit tout son ouvrage.

 He [was] a widow's [0802] [0490] son [1121] of the tribe [4294] of Naphtali, [5321] and his father [0001] [was] a man [0376] of Tyre, [6876] a worker [2790] in brass: [5178] and he was filled [4390] with wisdom, [2451] and understanding, [8394] and cunning [1847] to work [6213] all works [4399] in brass.  Il fit aussi deux chapiteaux d'airain fondu, pour mettre sur le haut des colonnes; la hauteur de l'un des chapiteaux était de cinq coudées, et la hauteur de l'autre chapiteau était aussi de cinq coudées.

 And he made [6213] two [8147] chapiters [3805] [of] molten [3332] brass, [5178] to set [5414] upon the tops [7218] of the pillars: [5982] the height [6967] of the one [0259] chapiter [3805] [was] five [2568] cubits, [0520] and the height [6967] of the other [8145] chapiter [3805] [was] five [2568] cubits: [0520]

 Il y avait des réseaux en ouvrage réticulé, des festons en façon de chaînes, aux chapiteaux qui étaient sur le sommet des colonnes; sept pour l'un des chapiteaux, et sept pour l'autre.

 [And] nets [7638] of checker [7639] work, [4639] and wreaths [1434] of chain [8333] work, [4639] for the chapiters [3805] which [were] upon the top [7218] of the pillars; [5982] seven [7651] for the one [0259] chapiter, [3805] and seven [7651] for the other [8145] chapiter. [3805]

 Et il fit les colonnes avec deux rangs de pommes de grenade sur un réseau, tout autour, pour couvrir l'un des chapiteaux qui était sur le sommet d'une des colonnes; et il fit la même chose pour l'autre chapiteau.

 And he made [6213] the pillars, [5982] and two [8147] rows [2905] round about [5439] upon the one [0259] network, [7639] to cover [3680] the chapiters [3805] that [were] upon the top, [7218] with pomegranates: [7416] and so did [6213] he for the other [8145] chapiter. [3805]

 Or les chapiteaux, au sommet des colonnes, dans le portique, étaient façonnés en fleur de lis, et avaient quatre coudées.

 And the chapiters [3805] that [were] upon the top [7218] of the pillars [5982] [were] of lily [7799] work [4639] in the porch, [0197] four [0702] cubits. [0520]

 Et les chapiteaux qui étaient sur les deux colonnes, s'élevaient même au-dessus, depuis l'endroit du renflement qui était au-delà du réseau: il y avait aussi deux cents pommes de grenade, disposées par rangs, tout autour, sur le second chapiteau.

 And the chapiters [3805] upon the two [8147] pillars [5982] [had pomegranates] also above, [4605] over against [5980] the belly [0990] which [was] by [5676] the network: [7639] and the pomegranates [7416] [were] two hundred [3967] in rows [2905] round about [5439] upon the other [8145] chapiter. [3805]

 Il dressa donc les colonnes au portique du temple. Il posa la colonne de droite, et la nomma Jakin (il a fondé); puis il dressa la colonne de gauche, et la nomma Boaz (en lui la force).

 And he set up [6965] the pillars [5982] in the porch [0197] of the temple: [1964] and he set up [6965] the right [3233] pillar, [5982] and called [7121] the name [8034] thereof Jachin: [3199] and he set up [6965] the left [8042] pillar, [5982] and called [7121] the name [8034] thereof Boaz. [1162]

 Et le sommet des colonnes était façonné en lis. Ainsi l'ouvrage des colonnes fut achevé.

 And upon the top [7218] of the pillars [5982] [was] lily [7799] work: [4639] so was the work [4399] of the pillars [5982] finished. [8552]

 Il fit aussi la mer de fonte, qui avait dix coudées d'un bord à l'autre; elle était ronde tout autour, de cinq coudées de haut; et un cordon de trente coudées en mesurait le tour.

 And he made [6213] a molten [3332] sea, [3220] ten [6235] cubits [0520] from the one brim [8193] to the other: [8193] [it was] round [5696] all about, [5439] and his height [6967] [was] five [2568] cubits: [0520] and a line [6957] [6961] of thirty [7970] cubits [0520] did compass [5437] it round about. [5439]

 Or, au-dessous de son bord, il y avait tout autour, des coloquintes qui l'environnaient, dix par coudée, faisant tout le tour de la mer; il y avait deux rangées de ces coloquintes, coulées dans la fonte même.

 And under the brim [8193] of it round about [5439] [there were] knops [6497] compassing [5437] it, ten [6235] in a cubit, [0520] compassing [5362] the sea [3220] round about: [5439] the knops [6497] [were] cast [3332] in two [8147] rows, [2905] when it was cast. [3333]

 Elle était posée sur douze bœufs, dont trois regardaient le septentrion, trois regardaient l'occident, trois regardaient le midi, et trois regardaient l'orient. La mer était au-dessus d'eux, et toutes leurs croupes étaient tournées en dedans.

 Il fit aussi les dix socles d'airain, ayant chacun quatre coudées de long, et quatre coudées de large, et trois coudées de haut.

 And he made [6213] ten [6235] bases [4350] of brass; [5178] four [0702] cubits [0520] [was] the length [0753] of one [0259] base, [4350] and four [0702] cubits [0520] the breadth [7341] thereof, and three [7969] cubits [0520] the height [6967] of it.

 Et voici quelle était la façon des socles. Ils avaient des panneaux enchâssés entre des bordures.

 And the work [4639] of the bases [4350] [was] on this [manner]: they had borders, [4526] and the borders [4526] [were] between the ledges: [7948]

 Et sur ces panneaux qui étaient entre les bordures, il y avait des lions, des bœufs et des Voyants. Et sur les bordures, tant au-dessus qu'au-dessous des lions et des bœufs, il y avait des guirlandes pendantes.

 And on the borders [4526] that [were] between the ledges [7948] [were] lions, [0738] oxen, [1241] and cherubims: [3742] and upon the ledges [7948] [there was] a base [3653] above: [4605] and beneath the lions [0738] and oxen [1241] [were] certain additions [3914] made of thin [4174] work. [4639]

 Et il y avait à chaque socle, quatre roues d'airain et des essieux d'airain; et ses quatre pieds leur servaient d'appuis. Ces appuis étaient fondus au-dessous de la cuve; et au-delà de chacun étaient les guirlandes.

 And every [0259] base [4350] had four [0702] brasen [5178] wheels, [0212] and plates [5633] of brass: [5178] and the four [0702] corners [6471] thereof had undersetters: [3802] under the laver [3595] [were] undersetters [3802] molten, [3332] at the side [5676] of every [0376] addition. [3914]

 L'ouverture du socle, depuis le dedans du couronnement jusqu'en haut, avait une coudée; et cette ouverture arrondie en façon de base était d'une coudée et demie; et sur cette ouverture il y avait aussi des sculptures. Les panneaux étaient carrés, non circulaires.

 And the mouth [6310] of it within [1004] the chapiter [3805] and above [4605] [was] a cubit: [0520] but the mouth [6310] thereof [was] round [5696] [after] the work [4639] of the base, [3653] a cubit [0520] and an half: [2677] and also upon the mouth [6310] of it [were] gravings [4734] with their borders, [4526] foursquare, [7251] not round. [5696]

 Et les quatre roues étaient au-dessous des panneaux; et les essieux des roues tenaient au socle. Chaque roue était haute d'une coudée et demie.

 And under [8478] the borders [4526] [were] four [0702] wheels; [0212] and the axletrees [3027] of the wheels [0212] [were joined] to the base: [4350] and the height [6967] of a [0259] wheel [0212] [was] a cubit [0520] and half [2677] a cubit. [0520]

 Et la façon des roues était comme celle d'une roue de char. Leurs essieux, leurs jantes, leurs rais et leurs moyeux, tout était de fonte.

 And the work [4639] of the wheels [0212] [was] like the work [4639] of a chariot [4818] wheel: [0212] their axletrees, [3027] and their naves, [1354] and their felloes, [2839] and their spokes, [2840] [were] all molten. [3332]

 Les quatre appuis étaient aux quatre angles de chaque socle; ces appuis étaient tirés du socle même.

 And [there were] four [0702] undersetters [3802] to the four [0702] corners [6438] of one [0259] base: [4350] [and] the undersetters [3802] [were] of the very base [4350] itself.

 Et la tête du socle s'élevait d'une demi-coudée, en forme de cercle; et contre cette tête étaient ses appuis et ses panneaux qui en étaient tirés.

 And in the top [7218] of the base [4350] [was there] a round [5696] compass [5439] of half [2677] a cubit [0520] high: [6967] and on the top [7218] of the base [4350] the ledges [3027] thereof and the borders [4526] thereof [were] of the same.

 Et il sculpta, sur la surface de ses appuis et sur ses panneaux, des Voyants, des lions et des palmes, selon le champ de chacun, et des guirlandes tout autour.

 For on the plates [3871] of the ledges [3027] thereof, and on the borders [4526] thereof, he graved [6605] cherubims, [3742] lions, [0738] and palm trees, [8561] according to the proportion [4626] of every one, [0376] and additions [3914] round about. [5439]

 C'est ainsi qu'il fit les dix socles, ayant tous une même fonte, une même mesure et une même forme.

 After this [manner] he made [6213] the ten [6235] bases: [4350] all of them had one [0259] casting, [4165] one [0259] measure, [4060] [and] one [0259] size. [7095]

 Il fit aussi dix cuves d'airain, dont chacune contenait quarante baths. Chaque cuve était de quatre coudées; chaque cuve était sur l'un des dix socles.

 Then made [6213] he ten [6235] lavers [3595] of brass: [5178] one [0259] laver [3595] contained [3557] forty [0705] baths: [1324] [and] every [0259] laver [3595] was four [0702] cubits: [0520] [and] upon every one [0259] [4350] of the ten [6235] bases [4350] one [0259] laver. [3595]

 And he put [5414] five [2568] bases [4350] on the right [3225] side [3802] of the house, [1004] and five [2568] on the left [8040] side [3802] of the house: [1004] and he set [5414] the sea [3220] on the right [3233] side [3802] of the house [1004] eastward [6924] over against [4136] the south.  Ainsi Hiram fit les cuves, les pelles et les bassins; et il acheva tout l'ouvrage qu'il faisait au roi Salomon pour la maison de YEHOVAH;

 The two [8147] pillars, [5982] and the [two] bowls [1543] of the chapiters [3805] that [were] on the top [7218] of the two [8147] pillars; [5982] and the two [8147] networks, [7639] to cover [3680] the two [8147] bowls [1543] of the chapiters [3805] which [were] upon the top [7218] of the pillars; [5982]

 Et les quatre cents pommes de grenade pour les deux réseaux, deux rangs de grenades à chaque réseau, pour couvrir les deux renflements des chapiteaux qui étaient sur les colonnes;

 And four [0702] hundred [3967] pomegranates [7416] for the two [8147] networks, [7639] [even] two [8147] rows [2905] of pomegranates [7416] for one [0259] network, [7639] to cover [3680] the two [8147] bowls [1543] of the chapiters [3805] that [were] upon [6440] the pillars; [5982]

 Le roi les fit fondre dans la plaine du Jourdain, dans une terre grasse, entre Succoth et Tsarthan.

 In the plain [3603] of Jordan [3383] did the king [4428] cast [3332] them, in the clay [4568] ground [0127] between Succoth [5523] and Zarthan. [6891]

 Et Salomon ne pesa pas un de ces ustensiles, parce qu'ils étaient en trop grand nombre; et on ne rechercha pas le poids de l'airain.

 And Solomon [8010] left [3240] all the vessels [3627] [unweighed], because they were exceeding [3966] [3966] many: [7230] neither was the weight [4948] of the brass [5178] found out. [2713]

 Salomon fit encore tous ces ustensiles qui appartenaient à la maison de YEHOVAH: l'autel d'or, et la table d'or sur laquelle était le pain du témoignage;

 And Solomon [8010] made [6213] all the vessels [3627] that [pertained] unto the house [1004] of the LORD: [3068] the altar [4196] of gold, [2091] and the table [7979] of gold, [2091] whereupon the shewbread [3899] [6440] [was],

 Et les chandeliers d'or fin, cinq à droite et cinq à gauche, devant le sanctuaire; et les fleurs et les lampes et les mouchettes d'or;

 And the bowls, [5592] and the snuffers, [4212] and the basons, [4219] and the spoons, [3709] and the censers [4289] [of] pure [5462] gold; [2091] and the hinges [6596] [of] gold, [2091] [both] for the doors [1817] of the inner [6442] house, [1004] the most [6944] holy [6944] [place, and] for the doors [1817] of the house, [1004] [to wit], of the temple.  Ainsi fut achevé tout l'ouvrage que le roi Salomon fit pour la maison de YEHOVAH. Puis Salomon fit apporter ce que David, son père, avait consacré, l'argent, l'or et les ustensiles, et il les mit dans les trésors de la maison de YEHOVAH.

 So was ended [7999] all the work [4399] that king [4428] Solomon [8010] made [6213] for the house [1004] of the LORD. [3068] And Solomon [8010] brought in [0935] the things which David [1732] his father [0001] had dedicated; [6944] [even] the silver, [3701] and the gold, [2091] and the vessels, [3627] did he put [5414] among the treasures [0214] of the house [1004] of the LORD.  Alors Salomon fit assembler auprès de lui à Jérusalem les anciens d'Israël, et tous les chefs des tribus, les principaux des pères des enfants d'Israël, pour transporter, de la ville de David, qui est Sion, l'arche de l'alliance de YEHOVAH.

 Then Solomon [8010] assembled [6950] the elders [2205] of Israel, [3478] and all the heads [7218] of the tribes, [4294] the chief [5387] of the fathers [0001] of the children [1121] of Israel, [3478] unto king [4428] Solomon [8010] in Jerusalem, [3389] that they might bring up [5927] the ark [0727] of the covenant [1285] of the LORD [3068] out of the city [5892] of David, [1732] which [is] Zion.  Et tous les hommes d'Israël s'assemblèrent auprès du roi Salomon, au mois d'Ethanim, qui est le septième mois, pendant la fête.

 And all the men [0376] of Israel [3478] assembled [6950] themselves unto king [4428] Solomon [8010] at the feast [2282] in the month [3391] Ethanim, [0388][0386] which [is] the seventh [7637] month. [2320]

 Tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent donc, et les sacrificateurs portèrent l'arche.

 And all the elders [2205] of Israel [3478] came, [0935] and the priests [3548] took up [5375] the ark. [0727]

 Ainsi on fit monter l'arche de YEHOVAH et le tabernacle d'assignation, et tous les ustensiles sacrés qui étaient au tabernacle; les sacrificateurs et les Lévites les transportèrent.

 And they brought up [5927] the ark [0727] of the LORD, [3068] and the tabernacle [0168] of the congregation, [4150] and all the holy [6944] vessels [3627] that [were] in the tabernacle, [0168] even those did the priests [3548] and the Levites [3881] bring up. [5927]

 Or le roi Salomon et toute l'assemblée d'Israël, qui avait été convoquée auprès de lui, étaient ensemble devant l'arche; et ils sacrifiaient du gros et du menu bétail en si grand nombre qu'on ne pouvait ni le compter ni le nombrer.

 And king [4428] Solomon, [8010] and all the congregation [5712] of Israel, [3478] that were assembled [3259] unto him, [were] with him before [6440] the ark, [0727] sacrificing [2076] sheep [6629] and oxen, [1241] that could not be told [5608] nor numbered [4487] for multitude. [7230]

 Et les sacrificateurs portèrent l'arche de l'alliance de YEHOVAH en son lieu, dans le sanctuaire de la maison, au lieu très-saint, sous les ailes des Voyants.

 And the priests [3548] brought in [0935] the ark [0727] of the covenant [1285] of the LORD [3068] unto his place, [4725] into the oracle [1687] of the house, [1004] to the most [6944] holy [6944] [place, even] under the wings [3671] of the cherubims. [3742]

 Car les Voyants étendaient les ailes sur le lieu où devait être l'arche, et les Voyants couvraient l'arche et ses barres par-dessus.

 For the cherubims [3742] spread [6566] forth [their] two wings [3671] over the place [4725] of the ark, [0727] and the cherubims [3742] covered [5526] the ark [0727] and the staves [0905] thereof above. [4605]

 Et les barres étaient assez longues pour qu'on en pût voir les extrémités du lieu saint, sur le devant du sanctuaire; mais elles ne se voyaient pas dehors; et elles sont demeurées là jusqu'à ce jour.

 And they drew out [0748] the staves, [0905] that the ends [7218] of the staves [0905] were seen [7200] out in the holy [6944] [place] before [6440] the oracle, [1687] and they were not seen [7200] without: [2351] and there they are unto this day. [3117]

 Il n'y avait dans l'arche que les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y avait mises à Horeb, quand YEHOVAH traita alliance avec les enfants d'Israël, à leur sortie du pays d'Égypte.

 [There was] nothing in the ark [0727] save [7535] the two [8147] tables [3871] of stone, [0068] which Moses [4872] put [3240] there at Horeb, [2722] when the LORD [3068] made [3772] [a covenant] with the children [1121] of Israel, [3478] when they came out [3318] of the land [0776] of Egypt. [4714]

 Or il arriva, comme les sacrificateurs sortaient du lieu saint, que la nuée remplit la maison de YEHOVAH;

 And it came to pass, when the priests [3548] were come out [3318] of the holy [6944] [place], that the cloud [6051] filled [4390] the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068]

 Et les sacrificateurs ne purent s'y tenir pour faire le service, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire de YEHOVAH remplissait la maison de YEHOVAH.

 So that the priests [3548] could [3201] not stand [5975] to minister [8334] because [6440] of the cloud: [6051] for the glory [3519] of the LORD [3068] had filled [4390] the house [1004] of the LORD. [3068]

 Alors Salomon dit: YEHOVAH a dit qu'il habiterait dans l'obscurité.

 Then spake [0559] Solomon, [8010] The LORD [3068] said [0559] that he would dwell [7931] in the thick darkness. [6205]

 J'ai achevé de bâtir une maison pour ta demeure, un domicile afin que tu y habites à toujours!

 I have surely [1129] built [1129] thee an house [1004] to dwell in, [2073] a settled place [4349] for thee to abide in [3427] for ever. [5769]

 Et le roi, tournant son visage, bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël; et toute l'assemblée d'Israël se tenait debout.

 And the king [4428] turned his face [6440] about, [5437] and blessed [1288] all the congregation [6951] of Israel: [3478] (and all the congregation [6951] of Israel [3478] stood;) [5975]

 Et il dit: Béni soit YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël, qui, de sa bouche, a parlé à David mon père, et qui, de sa main, a accompli ce qu'il avait promis, en disant:

 And he said, [0559] Blessed [1288] [be] the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] which spake [1696] with his mouth [6310] unto David [1732] my father, [0001] and hath with his hand [3027] fulfilled [4390] [it], saying, [0559]

 Depuis le jour où je retirai d'Égypte mon peuple d'Israël, je n'ai choisi aucune ville entre toutes les tribus d'Israël pour qu'on y bâtit une maison où fût mon nom; mais j'ai choisi David, pour qu'il fût établi sur mon peuple d'Israël.

 Since the day [3117] that I brought forth [3318] my people [5971] Israel [3478] out of Egypt, [4714] I chose [0977] no city [5892] out of all the tribes [7626] of Israel [3478] to build [1129] an house, [1004] that my name [8034] might be therein; but I chose [0977] David [1732] to be over my people [5971] Israel.  Or David, mon père, avait dessein de bâtir une maison au nom de YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël.

 And it was in the heart [3824] of David [1732] my father [0001] to build [1129] an house [1004] for the name [8034] of the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel. [3478]

 Mais YEHOVAH dit à David mon père: Quand tu as eu le dessein de bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as bien fait de former ce dessein.

 And the LORD [3068] said [0559] unto David [1732] my father, [0001] Whereas [3282] [0834] it was in thine heart [3824] to build [1129] an house [1004] unto my name, [8034] thou didst well [2895] that it was in thine heart. [3824]

 Néanmoins, tu ne bâtiras point cette maison; mais ton fils, issu de tes reins, sera celui qui bâtira cette maison à mon nom.

 Nevertheless [7535] thou shalt not build [1129] the house; [1004] but thy son [1121] that shall come forth [3318] out of thy loins, [2504] he shall build [1129] the house [1004] unto my name. [8034]

 YEHOVAH a donc accompli sa Parole qu'il avait prononcée; et j'ai succédé à David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, comme l'avait dit YEHOVAH, et j'ai bâti cette maison au nom de YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël.

 And the LORD [3068] hath performed [6965] his word [1697] that he spake, [1696] and I am risen up [6965] in the room of David [1732] my father, [0001] and sit [3427] on the throne [3678] of Israel, [3478] as the LORD [3068] promised, [1696] and have built [1129] an house [1004] for the name [8034] of the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel. [3478]

 Et j'y ai établi un lieu pour l'arche, où est l'alliance de YEHOVAH, qu'il traita avec nos pères quand il les retira du pays d'Égypte.

 And I have set [7760] there a place [4725] for the ark, [0727] wherein [is] the covenant [1285] of the LORD, [3068] which he made [3772] with our fathers, [0001] when he brought them out [3318] of the land [0776] of Egypt. [4714]

 Ensuite Salomon se tint devant l'autel de YEHOVAH, en présence de toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et, étendant ses mains vers les cieux, il dit:

 And Solomon [8010] stood [5975] before [6440] the altar [4196] of the LORD [3068] in the presence of [5048] all the congregation [6951] of Israel, [3478] and spread forth [6566] his hands [3709] toward heaven: [8064]

 Ô YEHOVAH, Dieu d'Israël, ni là-haut dans les cieux, ni en bas sur la terre, il n'y a de Dieu semblable à toi, qui gardes l'alliance et la miséricorde envers tes serviteurs qui marchent de tout leur cœur devant ta face;

 And he said, [0559] LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] [there is] no God [0430] like thee, in heaven [8064] above, [4605] or on earth [0776] beneath, who keepest [8104] covenant [1285] and mercy [2617] with thy servants [5650] that walk [1980] before [6440] thee with all their heart: [3820]

 Toi, qui as tenu à ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui avais promis. En effet, ce que tu as prononcé de ta bouche, tu l'as accompli de ta main, comme il paraît aujourd'hui.

 Who hast kept [8104] with thy servant [5650] David [1732] my father [0001] that thou promisedst [1696] him: thou spakest [1696] also with thy mouth, [6310] and hast fulfilled [4390] [it] with thine hand, [3027] as [it is] this day. [3117]

 Maintenant donc, ô YEHOVAH, Dieu d'Israël, tiens à ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as promis, en disant: Tu ne manqueras jamais devant moi d'un successeur assis sur le trône d'Israël; pourvu que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, pour marcher devant ma face comme tu y as marché.

 Therefore now, LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] keep [8104] with thy servant [5650] David [1732] my father [0001] that thou promisedst [1696] him, saying, [0559] There shall not fail [3772] thee a man [0376] in my sight [6440] to sit [3427] on the throne [3678] of Israel; [3478] so [7535] that thy children [1121] take heed [8104] to their way, [1870] that they walk [3212] before [6440] me as thou hast walked [1980] before [6440] me.

 Et maintenant, ô Dieu d'Israël, je t'en prie, que ta Parole, que tu as adressée à ton serviteur David, mon père, soit ratifiée.

 And now, O God [0430] of Israel, [3478] let thy word, [1697] I pray thee, be verified, [0539] which thou spakest [1696] unto thy servant [5650] David [1732] my father. [0001]

 Mais serait-il vrai que Dieu habitât sur la terre? Voici, les cieux, même les cieux des cieux, ne peuvent te contenir; combien moins cette maison que j'ai bâtie!

 But will God [0430] indeed [0552] dwell [3427] on the earth? [0776] behold, the heaven [8064] and heaven [8064] of heavens [8064] cannot contain [3557] thee; how much less [0637] this house [1004] that I have builded? [1129]

 Toutefois, ô YEHOVAH, mon Dieu, aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur et à sa supplication, pour écouter le cri et la prière que ton serviteur t'adresse aujourd'hui.

 Yet have thou respect [6437] unto the prayer [8605] of thy servant, [5650] and to his supplication, [8467] O LORD [3068] my God, [0430] to hearken [8085] unto the cry [7440] and to the prayer, [8605] which thy servant [5650] prayeth [6419] before [6440] thee to day: [3117]

 Que tes yeux soient ouverts, jour et nuit, sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont tu as dit: Mon nom sera là! Exauce la prière que ton serviteur fait en ce lieu.

 That thine eyes [5869] may be open [6605] toward this house [1004] night [3915] and day, [3117] [even] toward the place [4725] of which thou hast said, [0559] My name [8034] shall be there: that thou mayest hearken [8085] unto the prayer [8605] which thy servant [5650] shall make [6419] toward this place.  Exauce la supplication de ton serviteur et de ton peuple d'Israël, quand ils prieront en ce lieu; exauce-les, toi, du lieu de ta demeure dans les cieux; exauce et pardonne!

 And hearken [8085] thou to the supplication [8467] of thy servant, [5650] and of thy people [5971] Israel, [3478] when they shall pray [6419] toward this place: [4725] and hear [8085] thou in heaven [8064] thy dwelling [3427] place: [4725] and when thou hearest, [8085] forgive. [5545]

 Quand quelqu'un aura péché contre son prochain, et qu'on lui déférera le serment pour le faire jurer, et qu'il viendra prêter serment devant ton autel, dans cette maison;

 If any man [0376] trespass [2398] against his neighbour, [7453] and an oath [0423] be laid [5375] upon him to cause him to swear, [0422] and the oath [0423] come [0935] before [6440] thine altar [4196] in this house: [1004]

 Toi, écoute des cieux, agis, et juge tes serviteurs, en condamnant le méchant et faisant retomber sa conduite sur sa tête; en justifiant le juste et lui rendant selon sa justice.

 Then hear [8085] thou in heaven, [8064] and do, [6213] and judge [8199] thy servants, [5650] condemning [7561] the wicked, [7563] to bring [5414] his way [1870] upon his head; [7218] and justifying [6663] the righteous, [6662] to give [5414] him according to his righteousness. [6666]

 When thy people [5971] Israel [3478] be smitten down [5062] before [6440] the enemy, [0341] because they have sinned [2398] against thee, and shall turn [7725] again to thee, and confess [3034] thy name, [8034] and pray, [6419] and make supplication [2603] unto thee in this house: [1004]

 Toi, exauce-les des cieux, et pardonne le péché de ton peuple d'Israël, et ramène-les dans la terre que tu as donnée à leurs pères.

 Then hear [8085] thou in heaven, [8064] and forgive [5545] the sin [2403] of thy people [5971] Israel, [3478] and bring them again [7725] unto the land [0127] which thou gavest [5414] unto their fathers. [0001]

 Quand les cieux seront fermés et qu'il n'y aura point de pluie, parce qu'ils auront péché contre toi; s'ils prient en ce lieu, s'ils donnent gloire à ton nom, et s'ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que tu les auras affligés;

 When heaven [8064] is shut up, [6113] and there is no rain, [4306] because they have sinned [2398] against thee; if they pray [6419] toward this place, [4725] and confess [3034] thy name, [8034] and turn [7725] from their sin, [2403] when thou afflictest [6031] them:

 Toi, exauce-les des cieux, et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple d'Israël, après que tu leur auras enseigné le bon chemin par lequel ils doivent marcher; et envoie de la pluie sur la terre que tu as donnée en héritage à ton peuple.

 Then hear [8085] thou in heaven, [8064] and forgive [5545] the sin [2403] of thy servants, [5650] and of thy people [5971] Israel, [3478] that thou teach [3384] them the good [2896] way [1870] wherein they should walk, [3212] and give [5414] rain [4306] upon thy land, [0776] which thou hast given [5414] to thy people [5971] for an inheritance.  Quand il y aura dans le pays la famine ou la peste; quand il y aura la rouille, la nielle, les sauterelles ou les chenilles; quand les ennemis les assiégeront dans leur pays, dans leurs portes, ou qu'il y aura une plaie, une maladie quelconque;

 If there be in the land [0776] famine, [7458] if there be pestilence, [1698] blasting, [7711] mildew, [3420] locust, [0697] [or] if there be caterpiller; [2625] if their enemy [0341] besiege [6887] them in the land [0776] of their cities; [8179] whatsoever plague, [5061] whatsoever sickness [4245] [there be];

 Quelque prière, quelque supplication que fasse quelque homme que ce soit de tout ton peuple d'Israël, selon qu'ils auront connu chacun la plaie de son cœur, et que chacun aura étendu ses mains vers cette maison;

 What prayer [8605] and supplication [8467] soever be [made] by any man, [0120] [or] by all thy people [5971] Israel, [3478] which shall know [3045] every man [0376] the plague [5061] of his own heart, [3824] and spread forth [6566] his hands [3709] toward this house: [1004]

 Toi, exauce-les des cieux, du lieu de ta demeure; pardonne, agis, et rends à chacun selon toutes ses œuvres, toi qui connais son cœur; car seul tu connais le cœur de tous les enfants des hommes;

 Then hear [8085] thou in heaven [8064] thy dwelling [3427] place, [4349] and forgive, [5545] and do, [6213] and give [5414] to every man [0376] according to his ways, [1870] whose heart [3824] thou knowest; [3045] (for thou, [even] thou only, knowest [3045] the hearts [3824] of all the children [1121] of men;) [0120]

 Et l'étranger lui-même, qui ne sera pas de ton peuple d'Israël, mais qui viendra d'un pays éloigné pour l'amour de ton nom

 Moreover concerning a stranger, [5237] that [is] not of thy people [5971] Israel, [3478] but cometh [0935] out of a far [7350] country [0776] for thy name's [8034] sake; [4616]

 (Car on entendra parler de ton grand nom, de ta main forte et de ton bras étendu); quand il viendra prier dans cette maison;

 (For they shall hear [8085] of thy great [1419] name, [8034] and of thy strong [2389] hand, [3027] and of thy stretched out [5186] arm;) [2220] when he shall come [0935] and pray [6419] toward this house; [1004]

 Toi, exauce-le des cieux, du lieu de ta demeure, et fais tout ce que cet étranger réclamera de toi; afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton nom, qu'ils te craignent, comme ton peuple d'Israël, et sachent que ton nom est invoqué sur cette maison que j'ai bâtie.

 Hear [8085] thou in heaven [8064] thy dwelling [3427] place, [4349] and do [6213] according to all that the stranger [5237] calleth [7121] to thee for: that all people [5971] of the earth [0776] may know [3045] thy name, [8034] to fear [3372] thee, as [do] thy people [5971] Israel; [3478] and that they may know [3045] that this house, [1004] which I have builded, [1129] is called [7121] by thy name.  Quand ton peuple sera sorti en guerre contre son ennemi, par le chemin où tu l'auras envoyé; s'ils prient YEHOVAH en regardant vers cette ville que tu as choisie et vers cette maison que j'ai bâtie à ton nom;

 If thy people [5971] go out [3318] to battle [4421] against their enemy, [0341] whithersoever [1870] thou shalt send [7971] them, and shall pray [6419] unto the LORD [3068] toward [1870] the city [5892] which thou hast chosen, [0977] and [toward] the house [1004] that I have built [1129] for thy name: [8034]

 Exauce des cieux leur prière et leur supplication et fais-leur droit.

 Then hear [8085] thou in heaven [8064] their prayer [8605] and their supplication, [8467] and maintain [6213] their cause. [4941]

 Quand ils auront péché contre toi (car il n'y a point d'homme qui ne pèche), et qu'irrité contre eux tu les auras livrés à leurs ennemis, et que ceux qui les auront pris les auront menés captifs en pays ennemi, soit au loin, soit au près;

 If they sin [2398] against thee, (for [there is] no man [0120] that sinneth [2398] not,) and thou be angry [0599] with them, and deliver [5414] them to [6440] the enemy, [0341] so that they carry them away [7617] captives [7617] unto the land [0776] of the enemy, [0341] far [7350] or near; [7138]

 Si, dans le pays où ils seront captifs, ils rentrent en eux-mêmes et que, se repentant, ils prient dans le pays de ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs, en disant: nous avons péché, nous avons commis l'iniquité, nous avons agi méchamment;

 S'ils retournent à toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis qui les auront emmenés captifs, et s'ils t'adressent leurs prières en regardant vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers cette ville que tu as choisie et vers cette maison que j'ai bâtie à ton nom;

 And [so] return [7725] unto thee with all their heart, [3824] and with all their soul, [5315] in the land [0776] of their enemies, [0341] which led them away captive, [7617] and pray [6419] unto thee toward [1870] their land, [0776] which thou gavest [5414] unto their fathers, [0001] the city [5892] which thou hast chosen, [0977] and the house [1004] which I have built [1129] for thy name: [8034]

 Then hear [8085] thou their prayer [8605] and their supplication [8467] in heaven [8064] thy dwelling [3427] place, [4349] and maintain [6213] their cause, [4941]

 Pardonne à ton peuple, qui aura péché contre toi, toutes les rébellions dont il sera coupable envers toi; fais qu'ils soient un objet de pitié pour ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs, et qu'ils en aient compassion;

 And forgive [5545] thy people [5971] that have sinned [2398] against thee, and all their transgressions [6588] wherein they have transgressed [6586] against thee, and give [5414] them compassion [7356] before [6440] them who carried them captive, [7617] that they may have compassion [7355] on them:

 Car ils sont ton peuple, et ton héritage, que tu as tiré d'Égypte, du milieu d'une fournaise de fer.

 For they [be] thy people, [5971] and thine inheritance, [5159] which thou broughtest forth [3318] out of Egypt, [4714] from the midst [8432] of the furnace [3564] of iron: [1270]

 Que tes yeux soient donc ouverts sur la supplication de ton serviteur et sur la supplication de ton peuple d'Israël, pour les exaucer dans tout ce qu'ils réclameront de toi.

 That thine eyes [5869] may be open [6605] unto the supplication [8467] of thy servant, [5650] and unto the supplication [8467] of thy people [5971] Israel, [3478] to hearken [8085] unto them in all that they call [7121] for unto thee.

 Car tu les as séparés d'entre tous les peuples de la terre pour être ton héritage, comme tu l'as dit par Moïse, ton serviteur, quand tu retiras nos pères de l'Égypte, ô Seigneur YEHOVAH!

 For thou didst separate [0914] them from among all the people [5971] of the earth, [0776] [to be] thine inheritance, [5159] as thou spakest [1696] by the hand [3027] of Moses [4872] thy servant, [5650] when thou broughtest our fathers [0001] out [3318] of Egypt, [4714] O Lord [0136] GOD. [3069]

 Or, quand Salomon eut achevé de faire toute cette prière et cette supplication à YEHOVAH, il se leva de devant l'autel de YEHOVAH, où il était à genoux, les mains étendues vers les cieux;

 And it was [so], that when Solomon [8010] had made an end [3615] of praying [6419] all this prayer [8605] and supplication [8467] unto the LORD, [3068] he arose [6965] from before [6440] the altar [4196] of the LORD, [3068] from kneeling [3766] on his knees [1290] with his hands [3709] spread [6566] up to heaven. [8064]

 Et, se tenant debout, il bénit à haute voix toute l'assemblée d'Israël, en disant:

 And he stood, [5975] and blessed [1288] all the congregation [6951] of Israel [3478] with a loud [1419] voice, [6963] saying, [0559]

 Béni soit YEHOVAH, qui a donné du repos à son peuple d'Israël, selon tout ce qu'il avait dit! Il n'est pas tombé un seul mot de toutes les bonnes paroles qu'il a prononcées par Moïse, son serviteur.

 Blessed [1288] [be] the LORD, [3068] that hath given [5414] rest [4496] unto his people [5971] Israel, [3478] according to all that he promised: [1696] there hath not failed [5307] one [0259] word [1697] of all his good [2896] promise, [1697] which he promised [1696] by the hand [3027] of Moses [4872] his servant. [5650]

 Que YEHOVAH notre Dieu soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères; qu'il ne nous abandonne point et ne nous délaisse point; mais qu'il incline notre cœur vers lui,

 The LORD [3068] our God [0430] be with us, as he was with our fathers: [0001] let him not leave [5800] us, nor forsake [5203] us:

 Afin que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies et que nous gardions ses commandements, ses statuts, et ses ordonnances, qu'il a prescrits à nos pères.

 That he may incline [5186] our hearts [3824] unto him, to walk [3212] in all his ways, [1870] and to keep [8104] his commandments, [4687] and his statutes, [2706] and his judgments, [4941] which he commanded [6680] our fathers. [0001]

 Et que ces paroles, par lesquelles j'ai prié YEHOVAH, soient présentes jour et nuit devant YEHOVAH notre Dieu, pour qu'il fasse droit à son serviteur et à son peuple d'Israël, selon le besoin de chaque jour;

 And let these my words, [1697] wherewith I have made supplication [2603] before [6440] the LORD, [3068] be nigh [7138] unto the LORD [3068] our God [0430] day [3119] and night, [3915] that he maintain [6213] the cause [4941] of his servant, [5650] and the cause [4941] of his people [5971] Israel [3478] at all times, [3117] [3117] as the matter [1697] shall require:

 Afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent que c'est YEHOVAH qui est Dieu, qu'il n'y en a point d'autre;

 That all the people [5971] of the earth [0776] may know [3045] that the LORD [3068] [is] God, [0430] [and that there is] none else.

 Et que votre cœur soit intègre envers YEHOVAH notre Dieu, pour marcher dans ses statuts et garder ses commandements, comme aujourd'hui.

 Let your heart [3824] therefore be perfect [8003] with the LORD [3068] our God, [0430] to walk [3212] in his statutes, [2706] and to keep [8104] his commandments, [4687] as at this day. [3117]

 Et le roi, et tout Israël avec lui, offrirent des sacrifices devant YEHOVAH.

 And the king, [4428] and all Israel [3478] with him, offered [2076] sacrifice [2077] before [6440] the LORD. [3068]

 Et Salomon immola, pour l'offrande de paix qu'il présenta à YEHOVAH, vingt-deux mille taureaux et cent vingt mille brebis. Ainsi le roi et tous les enfants d'Israël firent la dédicace de la maison de YEHOVAH.

 And Solomon [8010] offered [2076] a sacrifice [2077] of peace offerings, [8002] which he offered [2076] unto the LORD, [3068] two [8147] and twenty [6242] thousand [0505] oxen, [1241] and an hundred [3967] and twenty [6242] thousand [0505] sheep. [6629] So the king [4428] and all the children [1121] of Israel [3478] dedicated [2596] the house [1004] of the LORD. [3068]

 The same day [3117] did the king [4428] hallow [6942] the middle [8432] of the court [2691] that [was] before [6440] the house [1004] of the LORD: [3068] for there he offered [6213] burnt offerings, [5930] and meat offerings, [4503] and the fat [2459] of the peace offerings: [8002] because the brasen [5178] altar [4196] that [was] before [6440] the LORD [3068] [was] too little [6996] to receive [3557] the burnt offerings, [5930] and meat offerings, [4503] and the fat [2459]

 Ainsi, en ce temps-là, Salomon célébra la fête, et avec lui tout Israël, venu en grande assemblée, depuis les environs de Hamath jusqu'au torrent d'Égypte, devant YEHOVAH notre Dieu, pendant sept jours et sept autres jours, c'est-à-dire, quatorze jours.

 And at that time [6256] Solomon [8010] held [6213] a feast, [2282] and all Israel [3478] with him, a great [1419] congregation, [6951] from the entering in [0935] of Hamath [2574] unto the river [5158] of Egypt, [4714] before [6440] the LORD [3068] our God, [0430] seven [7651] days [3117] and seven [7651] days, [3117] [even] fourteen [0702] [6240] days. [3117]

 Le huitième jour il renvoya le peuple; et ils bénirent le roi et s'en allèrent dans leurs demeures, joyeux et heureux de tout le bien que YEHOVAH avait fait à David, son serviteur, et à Israël, son peuple.

 On the eighth [8066] day [3117] he sent the people [5971] away: [7971] and they blessed [1288] the king, [4428] and went [3212] unto their tents [0168] joyful [8056] and glad [2896] of heart [3820] for all the goodness [2896] that the LORD [3068] had done [6213] for David [1732] his servant, [5650] and for Israel [3478] his people.  Après que Salomon eut achevé de bâtir la maison de YEHOVAH, et la maison royale, et tout ce que Salomon prit plaisir à faire,

 And it came to pass, when Solomon [8010] had finished [3615] the building [1129] of the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068] and the king's [4428] house, [1004] and all Solomon's [8010] desire [2837] which he was pleased [2654] to do, [6213]

 YEHOVAH apparut à Salomon pour la seconde fois, comme il lui était apparu à Gabaon.

 That the LORD [3068] appeared [7200] to Solomon [8010] the second time, [8145] as he had appeared [7200] unto him at Gibeon. [1391]

 Et YEHOVAH lui dit: J'ai exaucé ta prière et la supplication que tu m'as présentée; j'ai sanctifié cette maison que tu as bâtie, pour y mettre mon nom à jamais; et mes yeux et mon cœur seront toujours là.

 And the LORD [3068] said [0559] unto him, I have heard [8085] thy prayer [8605] and thy supplication, [8467] that thou hast made [2603] before [6440] me: I have hallowed [6942] this house, [1004] which thou hast built, [1129] to put [7760] my name [8034] there for [5704] ever; [5769] and mine eyes [5869] and mine heart [3820] shall be there perpetually. [3605] [3117]

 Pour toi, si tu marches devant moi, comme David, ton père, a marché, avec intégrité de cœur et droiture, en faisant tout ce que je t'ai commandé, et si tu gardes mes statuts et mes ordonnances,

 And if thou wilt walk [3212] before [6440] me, as David [1732] thy father [0001] walked, [1980] in integrity [8537] of heart, [3824] and in uprightness, [3476] to do [6213] according to all that I have commanded [6680] thee, [and] wilt keep [8104] my statutes [2706] and my judgments: [4941]

 Alors j'affermirai le trône de ton royaume sur Israël à jamais, comme j'en ai parlé à David, ton père, en disant: Il ne te manquera point de successeur sur le trône d'Israël.

 Then I will establish [6965] the throne [3678] of thy kingdom [4467] upon Israel [3478] for ever, [5769] as I promised [1696] to David [1732] thy father, [0001] saying, [0559] There shall not fail [3772] thee a man [0376] upon the throne [3678] of Israel. [3478]

 Mais si vous vous détournez de moi, vous et vos fils, et que vous ne gardiez pas mes commandements et mes statuts que j'ai mis devant vous, et si vous allez et servez d'autres dieux et vous prosternez devant eux;

 [But] if ye shall at all [7725] turn [7725] from following [0310] me, ye or your children, [1121] and will not keep [8104] my commandments [4687] [and] my statutes [2708] which I have set [5414] before [6440] you, but go [1980] and serve [5647] other [0312] gods, [0430] and worship [7812] them:

 Je retrancherai Israël de dessus la terre que je lui ai donnée, je rejetterai loin de moi cette maison que j'ai consacrée à mon nom, et Israël sera la fable et la risée de tous les peuples.

 Then will I cut off [3772] Israel [3478] out [6440] of the land [0127] which I have given [5414] them; and this house, [1004] which I have hallowed [6942] for my name, [8034] will I cast out [7971] of my sight; [6440] and Israel [3478] shall be a proverb [4912] and a byword [8148] among all people: [5971]

 Et quant à cette maison, qui aura été haut élevée, quiconque passera près d'elle sera étonné et sifflera; et l'on dira: Pourquoi YEHOVAH a-t-il ainsi traité ce pays et cette maison?

 And at this house, [1004] [which] is high, [5945] every one that passeth [5674] by it shall be astonished, [8074] and shall hiss; [8319] and they shall say, [0559] Why hath the LORD [3068] done [6213] thus unto this land, [0776] and to this house? [1004]

 Et on répondra: Parce qu'ils ont abandonné YEHOVAH leur Dieu, qui avait tiré leurs pères hors du pays d'Égypte, et qu'ils se sont attachés à d'autres dieux; qu'ils se sont prosternés devant eux et les ont servis; c'est pour cela que YEHOVAH a fait venir sur eux tous ces maux.

 And they shall answer, [0559] Because they forsook [5800] the LORD [3068] their God, [0430] who brought forth [3318] their fathers [0001] out of the land [0776] of Egypt, [4714] and have taken hold [2388] upon other [0312] gods, [0430] and have worshipped [7812] them, and served [5647] them: therefore hath the LORD [3068] brought [0935] upon them all this evil. [7451]

 Or au bout des vingt ans pendant lesquels Salomon bâtit les deux maisons, la maison de YEHOVAH et la maison royale,

 And it came to pass at the end [7097] of twenty [6242] years, [8141] when Solomon [8010] had built [1129] the two [8147] houses, [1004] the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068] and the king's [4428] house, [1004]

 Hiram, roi de Tyr, ayant fourni à Salomon du bois de cèdre, du bois de cyprès et de l'or, autant qu'il en avait voulu, le roi Salomon donna à Hiram vingt villes, au pays de Galilée.

 ([Now] Hiram [2438] the king [4428] of Tyre [6865] had furnished [5375] Solomon [8010] with cedar [0730] trees [6086] and fir [1265] trees, [6086] and with gold, [2091] according to all his desire,) [2656] that then [0227] king [4428] Solomon [8010] gave [5414] Hiram [2438] twenty [6242] cities [5892] in the land [0776] of Galilee.  Et Hiram sortit de Tyr pour voir les villes que Salomon lui avait données, mais elles ne lui plurent point;

 And Hiram [2438] came out [3318] from Tyre [6865] to see [7200] the cities [5892] which Solomon [8010] had given [5414] him; and they pleased [3474] [5869] him not.

 Et il dit: Quelles villes m'as-tu données, mon frère? Et il les appela le pays de Cabul (comme rien), nom qu'elles ont conservé jusqu'à ce jour.

 And he said, [0559] What cities [5892] [are] these which thou hast given [5414] me, my brother? [0251] And he called [7121] them the land [0776] of Cabul [3521] unto this day. [3117]

 Hiram avait envoyé au roi cent vingt talents d'or.

 And Hiram [2438] sent [7971] to the king [4428] sixscore [3967] [6242] talents [3603] of gold. [2091]

 Et voici ce qui concerne la corvée que le roi Salomon leva pour bâtir la maison de YEHOVAH, et sa maison, et Millo, et la muraille de Jérusalem, et Hatsor, et Méguiddo, et Guézer.

 And this [is] the reason [1697] of the levy [4522] which king [4428] Solomon [8010] raised; [5927] for to build [1129] the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068] and his own house, [1004] and Millo, [4407] and the wall [2346] of Jerusalem, [3389] and Hazor, [2674] and Megiddo, [4023] and Gezer. [1507]

 Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, était monté et avait pris Guézer et l'avait brûlée; et il avait tué les Cananéens qui habitaient cette ville; mais il la donna pour dot à sa fille, femme de Salomon.

 [For] Pharaoh [6547] king [4428] of Egypt [4714] had gone up, [5927] and taken [3920] Gezer, [1507] and burnt [8313] it with fire, [0784] and slain [2026] the Canaanites [3669] that dwelt [3427] in the city, [5892] and given [5414] it [for] a present [7964] unto his daughter, [1323] Solomon's [8010] wife.  Salomon bâtit donc Guézer, et Beth-Horon la basse;

 And Solomon [8010] built [1129] Gezer, [1507] and Bethhoron [1032] the nether, [8481]

 Et Baalath, et Thadmor, dans la partie déserte du pays;

 And Baalath, [1191] and Tadmor [8412] [8559] in the wilderness, [4057] in the land, [0776]

 Toutes les villes servant de magasins appartenant à Salomon, les villes pour les chars, les villes pour la cavalerie, et tout ce qu'il plut à Salomon de bâtir à Jérusalem, au Liban, et dans tout le pays de sa domination.

 And all the cities [5892] of store [4543] that Solomon [8010] had, and cities [5892] for his chariots, [7393] and cities [5892] for his horsemen, [6571] and that [2837] which Solomon [8010] desired [2836] to build [1129] in Jerusalem, [3389] and in Lebanon, [3844] and in all the land [0776] of his dominion.  Tout le peuple qui était resté des Amoréens, des Héthiens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens, qui n'étaient point des enfants d'Israël;

 [And] all the people [5971] [that were] left [3498] of the Amorites, [0567] Hittites, [2850] Perizzites, [6522] Hivites, [2340] and Jebusites, [2983] which [were] not of the children [1121] of Israel, [3478]

 Leurs descendants, qui étaient demeurés après eux au pays et que les enfants d'Israël n'avaient pu vouer à l'interdit, Salomon les leva comme serfs de corvée, ce qu'ils ont été jusqu'à ce jour.

 Their children [1121] that were left [3498] after [0310] them in the land, [0776] whom the children [1121] of Israel [3478] also were not able [3201] utterly to destroy, [2763] upon those did Solomon [8010] levy [5927] a tribute [4522] of bondservice [5647] unto this day. [3117]

 Et d'entre les enfants d'Israël Salomon ne fit point de serf; mais ils furent gens de guerre, et ses officiers, et ses principaux chefs et ses capitaines, et chefs de ses chars et de sa cavalerie.

 But of the children [1121] of Israel [3478] did Solomon [8010] make [5414] no bondmen: [5650] but they [were] men [0582] of war, [4421] and his servants, [5650] and his princes, [8269] and his captains, [7991] and rulers [8269] of his chariots, [7393] and his horsemen. [6571]

 Quant aux chefs préposés aux travaux de Salomon, ils étaient cinq cent cinquante, ayant autorité sur le peuple qui faisait l'ouvrage.

 These [were] the chief [8269] of the officers [5324] that [were] over Solomon's [8010] work, [4399] five [2568] hundred [3967] and fifty, [2572] which bare rule [7287] over the people [5971] that wrought [6213] in the work. [4399]

 Mais ce fut quand la fille de Pharaon monta de la cité de David dans sa maison que Salomon lui avait bâtie, qu'il construisit Millo.

 But Pharaoh's [6547] daughter [1323] came up [5927] out of the city [5892] of David [1732] unto her house [1004] which [Solomon] had built [1129] for her: then did he build [1129] Millo. [4407]

 Et Salomon offrait, trois fois l'an, des offrandes à brûler et des sacrifices de prospérités sur l'autel qu'il avait construit à YEHOVAH, et il offrait des parfums sur celui qui était devant YEHOVAH. Et il acheva la maison.

 And three [7969] times [6471] in a year [8141] did Solomon [8010] offer [5927] burnt offerings [5930] and peace offerings [8002] upon the altar [4196] which he built [1129] unto the LORD, [3068] and he burnt incense [6999] upon the altar that [was] before [6440] the LORD. [3068] So he finished [7999] the house. [1004]

 Le roi Salomon équipa aussi une flotte à Etsjon-Guéber, près d'Éloth, sur les bords de la mer Rouge, au pays d'Édom.

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] made [6213] a navy of ships [0590] in Eziongeber, [6100] which [is] beside Eloth, [0359] on the shore [8193] of the Red [5488] sea, [3220] in the land [0776] of Edom. [0123]

 Et Hiram envoya de ses serviteurs, gens de mer et qui entendaient la marine, pour être avec les serviteurs de Salomon sur cette flotte.

 And Hiram [2438] sent [7971] in the navy [0590] his servants, [5650] shipmen [0582] [0591] that had knowledge [3045] of the sea, [3220] with the servants [5650] of Solomon. [8010]

 Et ils allèrent à Ophir et y prirent de l'or, quatre cent vingt talents, et l'apportèrent au roi Salomon.

 And they came [0935] to Ophir, [0211] and fetched [3947] from thence gold, [2091] four [0702] hundred [3967] and twenty [6242] talents, [3603] and brought [0935] [it] to king [4428] Solomon. [8010]

 La reine de Shéba, ayant appris la renommée de Salomon, à cause du nom de YEHOVAH, vint l'éprouver par des questions obscures.

 And when the queen [4436] of Sheba [7614] heard [8085] of the fame [8088] of Solomon [8010] concerning the name [8034] of the LORD, [3068] she came [0935] to prove [5254] him with hard questions. [2420]

 Elle entra dans Jérusalem avec un fort grand train, avec des chameaux qui portaient des aromates et de l'or en grande quantité, et des pierres précieuses; puis, étant venue vers Salomon, elle lui dit tout ce qu'elle avait dans le cœur.

 And she came [0935] to Jerusalem [3389] with a very [3966] great [3515] train, [2428] with camels [1581] that bare [5375] spices, [1314] and very [3966] much [7227] gold, [2091] and precious [3368] stones: [0068] and when she was come [0935] to Solomon, [8010] she communed [1696] with him of all that was in her heart.  Et Salomon lui expliqua tout ce qu'elle lui proposa; il n'y eut rien que le roi n'entendît et qu'il ne lui expliquât.

 And Solomon [8010] told [5046] her all her questions: [1697] there was not [any] thing [1697] hid [5956] from the king, [4428] which he told [5046] her not.

 Alors, la reine de Shéba voyant toute la sagesse de Salomon, et la maison qu'il avait bâtie,

 And when the queen [4436] of Sheba [7614] had seen [7200] all Solomon's [8010] wisdom, [2451] and the house [1004] that he had built, [1129]

 Et les mets de sa table, les logements de ses serviteurs, l'ordre du service de ses officiers, leurs vêtements, ses échansons, et les offrandes à brûler qu'il offrait dans la maison de YEHOVAH, elle fut toute hors d'elle-même.

 And the meat [3978] of his table, [7979] and the sitting [4186] of his servants, [5650] and the attendance [4612] of his ministers, [8334] and their apparel, [4403] and his cupbearers, [8248] and his ascent [5930] by which he went up [5927] unto the house [1004] of the LORD; [3068] there was no more spirit [7307] in her.

 Et elle dit au roi: Ce que j'ai entendu dire dans mon pays de ton état et de ta sagesse, est véritable.

 And she said [0559] to the king, [4428] It was a true [0571] report [1697] that I heard [8085] in mine own land [0776] of thy acts [1697] and of thy wisdom. [2451]

 Je ne croyais point ce qu'on en disait, jusqu'à ce que je sois venue et que mes yeux l'aient vu; et voici, on ne m'en avait pas rapporté la moitié; ta sagesse et tes biens surpassent ce que j'avais appris par la renommée.

 Howbeit I believed [0539] not the words, [1697] until I came, [0935] and mine eyes [5869] had seen [7200] [it]: and, behold, the half [2677] was not told [5046] me: thy wisdom [2451] and prosperity [2896] exceedeth [3254] the fame [8052] which I heard. [8085]

 Heureux tes gens! heureux tes serviteurs, qui se tiennent continuellement devant toi et qui écoutent ta sagesse!

 Happy [0835] [are] thy men, [0582] happy [0835] [are] these thy servants, [5650] which stand [5975] continually [8548] before [6440] thee, [and] that hear [8085] thy wisdom. [2451]

 Béni soit YEHOVAH ton Dieu, qui t'a eu pour agréable, pour te placer sur le trône d'Israël! C'est parce que YEHOVAH a aimé Israël à toujours, qu'il t'a établi roi pour faire droit et justice.

 Blessed [1288] be the LORD [3068] thy God, [0430] which delighted [2654] in thee, to set [5414] thee on the throne [3678] of Israel: [3478] because the LORD [3068] loved [0160] Israel [3478] for ever, [5769] therefore made [7760] he thee king, [4428] to do [6213] judgment [4941] and justice. [6666]

 Et elle donna au roi cent vingt talents d'or, et une très grande quantité d'aromates, avec des pierres précieuses. Il ne vint jamais depuis une aussi grande abondance d'aromates, que la reine de Shéba en donna au roi Salomon.

 And she gave [5414] the king [4428] an hundred [3967] and twenty [6242] talents [3603] of gold, [2091] and of spices [1314] very [3966] great store, [7235] and precious [3368] stones: [0068] there came [0935] no more such [1931] abundance [7230] of spices [1314] as these which the queen [4436] of Sheba [7614] gave [5414] to king [4428] Solomon. [8010]

 La flotte de Hiram, qui avait apporté de l'or d'Ophir, apporta aussi du bois de santal, en fort grande abondance, et des pierres précieuses.

 And the navy [0590] also of Hiram, [2438] that brought [5375] gold [2091] from Ophir, [0211] brought in [0935] from Ophir [0211] great [3966] plenty [7235] of almug [0484] trees, [6086] and precious [3368] stones. [0068]

 Et de ce bois de santal le roi fit des balustrades pour la maison de YEHOVAH et pour la maison royale, et des harpes, et des lyres pour les chantres. Il n'était point venu tant de bois de santal, et on n'en a point vu ainsi, jusqu'à ce jour.

 And the king [4428] made [6213] of the almug [0484] trees [6086] pillars [4552] for the house [1004] of the LORD, [3068] and for the king's [4428] house, [1004] harps [3658] also and psalteries [5035] for singers: [7891] there came [0935] no such almug [0484] trees, [6086] nor were seen [7200] unto this day. [3117]

 Et le roi Salomon donna à la reine de Shéba tout ce qu'il lui plut de demander, outre ce qu'il lui donna comme le roi Salomon pouvait donner. Et elle reprit le chemin de son pays avec ses serviteurs.

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] gave [5414] unto the queen [4436] of Sheba [7614] all her desire, [2656] whatsoever she asked, [7592] beside [that] which Solomon [8010] gave [5414] her of his royal [4428] bounty. [3027] So she turned [6437] and went [3212] to her own country, [0776] she and her servants. [5650]

 Le poids de l'or qui arrivait à Salomon, chaque année, était de six cent soixante-six talents d'or;

 Now the weight [4948] of gold [2091] that came [0935] to Solomon [8010] in one [0259] year [8141] was six [8337] hundred [3967] threescore [8346] and six [8337] talents [3603] of gold, [2091]

 Outre ce qui lui revenait des facteurs, des négociants, et du commerce de détail, et de tous les rois d'Arabie, et des gouverneurs du pays.

 Beside [that he had] of the merchantmen, [0582] [8446] and of the traffick [4536] of the spice merchants, [7402] and of all the kings [4428] of Arabia, [6153] and of the governors [6346] of the country. [0776]

 Le roi Salomon fit aussi deux cents boucliers d'or battu, employant six cents sicles d'or pour chaque bouclier;

 And king [4428] Solomon [8010] made [6213] two hundred [3967] targets [6793] [of] beaten [7820] gold: [2091] six [8337] hundred [3967] [shekels] of gold [2091] went [5927] to one [0259] target. [6793]

 Et trois cents boucliers plus petits, d'or battu, employant trois mines d'or pour chaque bouclier; et le roi les mit dans la maison de la Forêt du Liban.

 And [he made] three [7969] hundred [3967] shields [4043] [of] beaten [7820] gold; [2091] three [7969] pound [4488] of gold [2091] went [5927] to one [0259] shield: [4043] and the king [4428] put [5414] them in the house [1004] of the forest [3293] of Lebanon. [3844]

 Le roi fit aussi un grand trône d'ivoire qu'il couvrit d'or fin.

 Moreover the king [4428] made [6213] a great [1419] throne [3678] of ivory, [8127] and overlaid [6823] it with the best [6338] gold. [2091]

 Ce trône avait six degrés; et le haut du trône était rond par-derrière; et il y avait des accoudoirs de côté et d'autre du siège, et deux lions se tenaient auprès des accoudoirs.

 The throne [3678] had six [8337] steps, [4609] and the top [7218] of the throne [3678] [was] round [5696] behind: [0310] and [there were] stays [3027] on either side on the place [4725] of the seat, [7675] and two [8147] lions [0738] stood [5975] beside [0681] the stays. [3027]

 Et douze lions se tenaient là, sur les six degrés, de part et d'autre. Rien de pareil n'avait été fait pour aucun royaume.

 And twelve [8147] [6240] lions [0738] stood [5975] there on the one side and on the other upon the six [8337] steps: [4609] there was not the like [3651] made [6213] in any kingdom. [4467]

 Et tous les vases à boire du roi Salomon étaient d'or, et toute la vaisselle de la maison de la Forêt du Liban était d'or pur; rien n'était en argent; on n'en faisait aucun cas du vivant de Salomon.

 And all king [4428] Solomon's [8010] drinking [4945] vessels [3627] [were of] gold, [2091] and all the vessels [3627] of the house [1004] of the forest [3293] of Lebanon [3844] [were of] pure [5462] gold; [2091] none [0369] [were of] silver: [3701] it was nothing [3808] [3972] accounted [2803] of in the days [3117] of Solomon. [8010]

 Car le roi avait sur la mer une flotte de Tarsis, avec la flotte de Hiram; et, tous les trois ans une fois, la flotte de Tarsis venait, apportant de l'or, de l'argent, des dents d'éléphant, des singes et des paons.

 For the king [4428] had at sea [3220] a navy [0590] of Tharshish [8659] with the navy [0590] of Hiram: [2438] once [0259] in three [7969] years [8141] came [0935] the navy [0590] of Tharshish, [8659] bringing [5375] gold, [2091] and silver, [3701] ivory, [8143] and apes, [6971] and peacocks. [8500]

 Ainsi le roi Salomon fut plus grand que tous les rois de la terre, en richesses et en sagesse;

 So king [4428] Solomon [8010] exceeded [1431] all the kings [4428] of the earth [0776] for riches [6239] and for wisdom. [2451]

 Et toute la terre recherchait la face de Salomon, pour entendre la sagesse que Dieu lui avait mise dans le cœur.

 And all the earth [0776] sought [1245] to [6440] Solomon, [8010] to hear [8085] his wisdom, [2451] which God [0430] had put [5414] in his heart. [3820]

 Et chacun lui apportait chaque année son présent, des vases d'argent, des vases d'or, des vêtements, des armes, des aromates, des chevaux et des mulets.

 And they brought [0935] every man [0376] his present, [4503] vessels [3627] of silver, [3701] and vessels [3627] of gold, [2091] and garments, [8008] and armour, [5402] and spices, [1314] horses, [5483] and mules, [6505] a rate [1697] year [8141] by year. [8141]

 Salomon aussi rassembla des chars et des cavaliers; il eut quatorze cents chars et douze mille cavaliers, qu'il mit dans les villes des chars, et auprès du roi à Jérusalem.

 And Solomon [8010] gathered [0622] together chariots [7393] and horsemen: [6571] and he had a thousand [0505] and four [0702] hundred [3967] chariots, [7393] and twelve [8147] [6240] thousand [0505] horsemen, [6571] whom he bestowed [5148] in the cities [5892] for chariots, [7393] and with the king [4428] at Jerusalem. [3389]

 Et le roi fit que l'argent était aussi commun à Jérusalem que les pierres, et les cèdres aussi nombreux que les sycomores qui sont dans la plaine.

 And the king [4428] made [5414] silver [3701] [to be] in Jerusalem [3389] as stones, [0068] and cedars [0730] made [5414] he [to be] as the sycomore trees [8256] that [are] in the vale, [8219] for abundance. [7230]

 C'était d'Égypte que sortaient les chevaux de Salomon; un convoi de marchands du roi allait les chercher par troupes, contre paiement.

 And Solomon [8010] had horses [5483] brought out [4161] of Egypt, [4714] and linen yarn: [4723] the king's [4428] merchants [5503] received [3947] the linen yarn [4723] at a price. [4242]

 Un char montait et sortait d'Égypte pour six cents sicles d'argent, et un cheval pour cent cinquante; et de même on en tirait, par leur moyen, pour tous les rois des Héthiens et pour les rois de Syrie.

 And a chariot [4818] came up [5927] and went out [3318] of Egypt [4714] for six [8337] hundred [3967] [shekels] of silver, [3701] and an horse [5483] for an hundred [3967] and fifty: [2572] and so for all the kings [4428] of the Hittites, [2850] and for the kings [4428] of Syria, [0758] did they bring [them] out [3318] by their means.  Or, le roi Salomon aima plusieurs femmes étrangères, outre la fille de Pharaon: des Moabites, des Ammonites, des Iduméennes, des Sidoniennes et des Héthiennes,

 But king [4428] Solomon [8010] loved [0157] many [7227] strange [5237] women, [0802] together with the daughter [1323] of Pharaoh, [6547] women of the Moabites, [4125] Ammonites, [5984] Edomites, [0130] Zidonians, [6722] [and] Hittites; [2850]

 D'entre les nations dont YEHOVAH avait dit aux enfants d'Israël: Vous n'irez point chez elles, et elles ne viendront point chez vous; certainement elles détourneraient votre cœur pour suivre leurs dieux. Salomon s'attacha à elles, et les aima.

 Of the nations [1471] [concerning] which the LORD [3068] said [0559] unto the children [1121] of Israel, [3478] Ye shall not go in [0935] to them, neither shall they come in [0935] unto you: [for] surely [0403] they will turn away [5186] your heart [3824] after [0310] their gods: [0430] Solomon [8010] clave [1692] unto these in love. [0157]

 Il eut donc pour femmes sept cents princesses, et trois cents concubines; et ses femmes détournèrent son cœur.

 And he had seven [7651] hundred [3967] wives, [0802] princesses, [8282] and three [7969] hundred [3967] concubines: [6370] and his wives [0802] turned away [5186] his heart. [3820]

 Et il arriva, au temps de la vieillesse de Salomon, que ses femmes détournèrent son cœur après d'autres dieux; et son cœur ne fut pas intègre avec YEHOVAH son Dieu, comme le cœur de David, son père.

 For it came to pass, when [6256] Solomon [8010] was old, [2209] [that] his wives [0802] turned away [5186] his heart [3824] after [0310] other [0312] gods: [0430] and his heart [3824] was not perfect [8003] with the LORD [3068] his God, [0430] as [was] the heart [3824] of David [1732] his father. [0001]

 Et Salomon suivit Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, et Milcom, l'abomination des Ammonites.

 For Solomon [8010] went [3212] after [0310] Ashtoreth [6253] the goddess [0430] of the Zidonians, [6722] and after [0310] Milcom [4445] the abomination [8251] of the Ammonites. [5984]

 Ainsi Salomon fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de YEHOVAH, et il ne suivit pas pleinement YEHOVAH, comme David, son père.

 And Solomon [8010] did [6213] evil [7451] in the sight [5869] of the LORD, [3068] and went not fully [4390] after [0310] the LORD, [3068] as [did] David [1732] his father. [0001]

 Et Salomon bâtit un haut lieu à Kémos, l'idole abominable de Moab, sur la montagne qui est vis-à-vis de Jérusalem; et à Molec, l'abomination des enfants d'Ammon.

 Then did Solomon [8010] build [1129] an high place [1116] for Chemosh, [3645] the abomination [8251] of Moab, [4124] in the hill [2022] that [is] before [6440] Jerusalem, [3389] and for Molech, [4432] the abomination [8251] of the children [1121] of Ammon. [5983]

 Il en fit de même pour toutes ses femmes étrangères, qui offraient de l'encens et des sacrifices à leurs dieux.

 And likewise did [6213] he for all his strange [5237] wives, [0802] which burnt incense [6999] and sacrificed [2076] unto their gods. [0430]

 Et YEHOVAH fut indigné contre Salomon, parce qu'il avait détourné son cœur de YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël, qui lui était apparu deux fois,

 And the LORD [3068] was angry [0599] with Solomon, [8010] because his heart [3824] was turned [5186] from the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] which had appeared [7200] unto him twice, [6471]

 Et lui avait même donné ce commandement exprès, de ne point suivre d'autres dieux; mais il n'observa point ce que YEHOVAH lui avait commandé.

 And had commanded [6680] him concerning this thing, [1697] that he should not go [3212] after [0310] other [0312] gods: [0430] but he kept [8104] not that which the LORD [3068] commanded. [6680]

 Et YEHOVAH dit à Salomon: Puisque tu as agi ainsi, et que tu n'as pas gardé mon alliance et mes ordonnances que je t'avais données, je t'arracherai certainement le royaume et je le donnerai à ton serviteur.

 Wherefore the LORD [3068] said [0559] unto Solomon, [8010] Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept [8104] my covenant [1285] and my statutes, [2708] which I have commanded [6680] thee, I will surely [7167] rend [7167] the kingdom [4467] from thee, and will give [5414] it to thy servant. [5650]

 Seulement, pour l'amour de David, ton père, je ne le ferai point pendant ta vie; c'est des mains de ton fils que je l'arracherai.

 Notwithstanding in thy days [3117] I will not do [6213] it for David [1732] thy father's [0001] sake: [but] I will rend [7167] it out of the hand [3027] of thy son. [1121]

 Toutefois je n'arracherai pas tout le royaume; j'en donnerai une tribu à ton fils pour l'amour de David, mon serviteur, et pour l'amour de Jérusalem que j'ai choisie.

 Howbeit [7535] I will not rend [7167] away all the kingdom; [4467] [but] will give [5414] one [0259] tribe [7626] to thy son [1121] for David [1732] my servant's [5650] sake, and for Jerusalem's [3389] sake which I have chosen. [0977]

 YEHOVAH suscita donc un ennemi (un satan) à Salomon: Hadad, Iduméen, qui était de la race royale d'Édom.

 And the LORD [3068] stirred up [6965] an adversary [7854] unto Solomon, [8010] Hadad [1908] the Edomite: [0130] he [was] of the king's [4428] seed [2233] in Edom. [0123]

 Dans le temps que David était en Édom, lorsque Joab, chef de l'armée, monta pour ensevelir ceux qui avaient été tués, il tua tous les mâles d'Édom.

 For it came to pass, when David [1732] was in Edom, [0123] and Joab [3097] the captain [8269] of the host [6635] was gone up [5927] to bury [6912] the slain, [2491] after he had smitten [5221] every male [2145] in Edom; [0123]

 Car Joab demeura là six mois avec tout Israël, jusqu'à ce qu'il eût exterminé tous les mâles d'Édom.

 (For six [8337] months [2320] did Joab [3097] remain [3427] there with all Israel, [3478] until he had cut off [3772] every male [2145] in Edom:) [0123]

 Alors Hadad s'enfuit avec quelques Iduméens des serviteurs de son père, pour se retirer en Égypte. Or, Hadad était fort jeune.

 That Hadad [0111] fled, [1272] he and certain [0582] Edomites [0130] of his father's [0001] servants [5650] with him, to go into [0935] Egypt; [4714] Hadad [1908] [being] yet a little [6996] child. [5288]

 Et quand ils furent partis de Madian, ils vinrent à Paran; et ils prirent avec eux des gens de Paran et se retirèrent en Égypte vers Pharaon, roi d'Égypte, qui lui donna une maison, lui assigna de quoi se nourrir, et lui donna aussi une terre.

 And they arose [6965] out of Midian, [4080] and came [0935] to Paran: [6290] and they took [3947] men [0582] with them out of Paran, [6290] and they came [0935] to Egypt, [4714] unto Pharaoh [6547] king [4428] of Egypt; [4714] which gave [5414] him an house, [1004] and appointed [0559] him victuals, [3899] and gave [5414] him land.  Et Hadad fut fort dans les bonnes grâces de Pharaon; de sorte qu'il lui fit épouser la sœur de sa femme, la sœur de la reine Thachpénès.

 And Hadad [1908] found [4672] great [3966] favour [2580] in the sight [5869] of Pharaoh, [6547] so that he gave [5414] him to wife [0802] the sister [0269] of his own wife, [0802] the sister [0269] of Tahpenes [8472] the queen. [1377]

 Et la sœur de Thachpénès lui enfanta son fils Guénubath, que Thachpénès sevra dans la maison de Pharaon. Ainsi Guénubath était dans la maison de Pharaon, parmi les fils de Pharaon.

 And the sister [0269] of Tahpenes [8472] bare [3205] him Genubath [1592] his son, [1121] whom Tahpenes [8472] weaned [1580] in [8432] Pharaoh's [6547] house: [1004] and Genubath [1592] was in Pharaoh's [6547] household [1004] among [8432] the sons [1121] of Pharaoh. [6547]

 Or, quand Hadad eut appris en Égypte que David s'était endormi avec ses pères, et que Joab, le chef de l'armée, était mort, il dit à Pharaon: Laisse-moi partir, et je m'en irai en mon pays.

 And when Hadad [1908] heard [8085] in Egypt [4714] that David [1732] slept [7901] with his fathers, [0001] and that Joab [3097] the captain [8269] of the host [6635] was dead, [4191] Hadad [1908] said [0559] to Pharaoh, [6547] Let me depart, [7971] that I may go [3212] to mine own country. [0776]

 Et Pharaon lui dit: Que te manque-t-il donc auprès de moi, pour que tu demandes ainsi de t'en aller en ton pays? Et il lui répondit: Rien; mais laisse-moi, laisse-moi partir!

 Then Pharaoh [6547] said [0559] unto him, But what hast thou lacked [2638] with me, that, behold, thou seekest [1245] to go [3212] to thine own country? [0776] And he answered, [0559] Nothing: howbeit let me go [7971] in any wise. [7971]

 Dieu suscita encore un ennemi (un satan) à Salomon: Rézon, fils d'Eljada, qui s'était enfui d'avec son seigneur Hadadézer, roi de Tsoba,

 And God [0430] stirred him up [6965] [another] adversary, [7854] Rezon [7331] the son [1121] of Eliadah, [0450] which fled [1272] from his lord [0113] Hadadezer [1909] king [4428] of Zobah: [6678]

 Et qui assembla des gens contre lui et était chef de bande, lorsque David tua les Syriens. Et ils s'en allèrent à Damas, y habitèrent et y régnèrent.

 And he gathered [6908] men [0582] unto him, and became captain [8269] over a band, [1416] when David [1732] slew [2026] them [of Zobah]: and they went [3212] to Damascus, [1834] and dwelt [3427] therein, and reigned [4427] in Damascus. [1834]

 Rézon fut donc ennemi d'Israël tout le temps de Salomon, outre le mal que fit Hadad; il eut Israël en aversion, et il régna sur la Syrie.

 And he was an adversary [7854] to Israel [3478] all the days [3117] of Solomon, [8010] beside the mischief [7451] that Hadad [1908] [did]: and he abhorred [6973] Israel, [3478] and reigned [4427] over Syria. [0758]

 Jéroboam, fils de Nébat, Éphratien de Tséréda, serviteur de Salomon, dont la mère, femme veuve, s'appelait Tséruha, se révolta aussi contre le roi.

 And Jeroboam [3379] the son [1121] of Nebat, [5028] an Ephrathite [0673] of Zereda, [6868] Solomon's [8010] servant, [5650] whose mother's [0517] name [8034] [was] Zeruah, [6871] a widow [0490] woman, [0802] even he lifted up [7311] [his] hand [3027] against the king. [4428]

 Et voici l'occasion pour laquelle il se révolta contre le roi: Salomon bâtissait Millo et fermait la brèche de la cité de David, son père.

 And this [was] the cause [1697] that he lifted up [7311] [his] hand [3027] against the king: [4428] Solomon [8010] built [1129] Millo, [4407] [and] repaired [5462] the breaches [6556] of the city [5892] of David [1732] his father. [0001]

 Or, Jéroboam était fort et vaillant; et Salomon, voyant ce jeune homme qui travaillait, l'établit sur toute la corvée de la maison de Joseph.

 And the man [0376] Jeroboam [3379] [was] a mighty [1368] man of valour: [2428] and Solomon [8010] seeing [7200] the young man [5288] that he was industrious, [6213] [4399] he made him ruler [6485] over all the charge [5447] of the house [1004] of Joseph. [3130]

 Or, il arriva dans ce temps-là que Jéroboam sortit de Jérusalem. Et le prophète Achija, le Silonite, vêtu d'un manteau neuf, le rencontra dans le chemin; et ils étaient eux deux tout seuls dans les champs.

 And it came to pass at that time [6256] when Jeroboam [3379] went out [3318] of Jerusalem, [3389] that the prophet [5030] Ahijah [0281] the Shilonite [7888] found [4672] him in the way; [1870] and he had clad [3680] himself with a new [2319] garment; [8008] and they two [8147] [were] alone in the field: [7704]

 Alors Achija prit le manteau neuf qu'il avait sur lui, et le déchira en douze morceaux;

 And Ahijah [0281] caught [8610] the new [2319] garment [8008] that [was] on him, and rent [7167] it [in] twelve [8147] [6240] pieces: [7168]

 Et il dit à Jéroboam: Prends pour toi dix morceaux; car ainsi a dit YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais déchirer le royaume d'entre les mains de Salomon, et je te donnerai dix tribus;

 And he said [0559] to Jeroboam, [3379] Take [3947] thee ten [6235] pieces: [7168] for thus saith [0559] the LORD, [3068] the God [0430] of Israel, [3478] Behold, I will rend [7167] the kingdom [4467] out of the hand [3027] of Solomon, [8010] and will give [5414] ten [6235] tribes [7626] to thee:

 Mais il aura une tribu, pour l'amour de David, mon serviteur, et de Jérusalem, la ville que j'ai choisie d'entre toutes les tribus d'Israël;

 (But he shall have one [0259] tribe [7626] for my servant [5650] David's [1732] sake, and for Jerusalem's [3389] sake, the city [5892] which I have chosen [0977] out of all the tribes [7626] of Israel:) [3478]

 Parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et se sont prosternés devant Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, devant Kémos, dieu de Moab, et devant Milcom, dieu des enfants d'Ammon, et n'ont point marché dans mes voies, pour faire ce qui est droit à mes yeux, pour garder mes statuts et mes ordonnances, comme l'a fait David, père de Salomon.

 Because that they have forsaken [5800] me, and have worshipped [7812] Ashtoreth [6253] the goddess [0430] of the Zidonians, [6722] Chemosh [3645] the god [0430] of the Moabites, [4124] and Milcom [4445] the god [0430] of the children [1121] of Ammon, [5983] and have not walked [1980] in my ways, [1870] to do [6213] [that which is] right [3477] in mine eyes, [5869] and [to keep] my statutes [2708] and my judgments, [4941] as [did] David [1732] his father. [0001]

 Toutefois je n'ôterai rien de ce royaume d'entre ses mains; car, tout le temps qu'il vivra, je le maintiendrai prince, pour l'amour de David, mon serviteur, que j'ai choisi et qui a gardé mes commandements et mes statuts.

 Howbeit I will not take [3947] the whole kingdom [4467] out of his hand: [3027] but I will make [7896] him prince [5387] all the days [3117] of his life [2416] for David [1732] my servant's [5650] sake, whom I chose, [0977] because he kept [8104] my commandments [4687] and my statutes: [2708]

 Mais j'ôterai le royaume d'entre les mains de son fils,

 But I will take [3947] the kingdom [4410] out of his son's [1121] hand, [3027] and will give [5414] it unto thee, [even] ten [6235] tribes. [7626]

 Et je t'en donnerai dix tribus; et je donnerai une tribu à son fils, afin que David, mon serviteur, ait toujours une lampe devant moi à Jérusalem, la ville que j'ai choisie pour y mettre mon nom.

 And unto his son [1121] will I give [5414] one [0259] tribe, [7626] that David [1732] my servant [5650] may have a light [5216] alway [3605] [3117] before [6440] me in Jerusalem, [3389] the city [5892] which I have chosen [0977] me to put [7760] my name [8034] there.

 Je te prendrai donc, tu régneras sur tout ce que souhaitera ton âme, et tu seras roi sur Israël.

 And I will take [3947] thee, and thou shalt reign [4427] according to all that thy soul [5315] desireth, [0183] and shalt be king [4428] over Israel. [3478]

 Et si tu m'obéis dans tout ce que je te commanderai, si tu marches dans mes voies et que tu fasses tout ce qui est droit à mes yeux, gardant mes statuts et mes commandements, comme a fait David, mon serviteur, je serai avec toi; je te bâtirai une maison stable, comme j'en ai bâti une à David, et je te donnerai Israël.

 And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken [8085] unto all that I command [6680] thee, and wilt walk [1980] in my ways, [1870] and do [6213] [that is] right [3477] in my sight, [5869] to keep [8104] my statutes [2708] and my commandments, [4687] as David [1732] my servant [5650] did; [6213] that I will be with thee, and build [1129] thee a sure [0539] house, [1004] as I built [1129] for David, [1732] and will give [5414] Israel [3478] unto thee.

 Ainsi j'affligerai la postérité de David à cause de cela; mais non pour toujours.

 And I will for this afflict [6031] the seed [2233] of David, [1732] but not for ever. [3605] [3117]

 Or Salomon chercha à faire mourir Jéroboam; mais Jéroboam se leva et s'enfuit en Égypte vers Shishak, roi d'Égypte; et il demeura en Égypte jusqu'à la mort de Salomon.

 Solomon [8010] sought [1245] therefore to kill [4191] Jeroboam. [3379] And Jeroboam [3379] arose, [6965] and fled [1272] into Egypt, [4714] unto Shishak [7895] king [4428] of Egypt, [4714] and was in Egypt [4714] until the death [4194] of Solomon. [8010]

 Quant au reste des actions de Salomon, et tout ce qu'il fit, et sa sagesse, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Actes de Salomon?

 And the rest [3499] of the acts [1697] of Solomon, [8010] and all that he did, [6213] and his wisdom, [2451] [are] they not written [3789] in the book [5612] of the acts [1697] of Solomon? [8010]

 Or, le temps que Salomon régna à Jérusalem sur tout Israël fut de quarante ans.

 And the time [3117] that Solomon [8010] reigned [4427] in Jerusalem [3389] over all Israel [3478] [was] forty [0705] years. [8141]

 Puis Salomon s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli dans la cité de David, son père. Et Roboam, son fils, régna à sa place.

 And Solomon [8010] slept [7901] with his fathers, [0001] and was buried [6912] in the city [5892] of David [1732] his father: [0001] and Rehoboam [7346] his son [1121] reigned [4427] in his stead.
