 Et le Seigneur livra entre ses mains Jéhojakim, roi de Juda, et une partie des vases de la maison de Dieu; et Nébucadnetsar les transporta au pays de Shinear, dans la maison de son dieu, et il mit les vases dans la maison du trésor de son dieu.

 And the Lord [0136] gave [5414] Jehoiakim [3079] king [4428] of Judah [3063] into his hand, [3027] with part [7117] of the vessels [3627] of the house [1004] of God: [0430] which he carried [0935] into the land [0776] of Shinar [8152] to the house [1004] of his god; [0430] and he brought [0935] the vessels [3627] into the treasure [0214] house [1004] of his god.  Et le roi ordonna à Ashpénaz, chef de ses eunuques, d'amener d'entre les enfants d'Israël, de la race royale et des principaux seigneurs,

 And the king [4428] spake [0559] unto Ashpenaz [0828] the master [7227] of his eunuchs, [5631] that he should bring [0935] [certain] of the children [1121] of Israel, [3478] and of the king's [4410] seed, [2233] and of the princes; [6579]

 Quelques jeunes gens en qui il n'y eût aucun défaut corporel, de belle apparence, instruits en toute sagesse, ayant de la science et pleins d'intelligence, et qui fussent capables de se tenir au palais du roi, et de leur enseigner les lettres et la langue des Chaldéens.

 Children [3206] in whom [was] no blemish, [3971] but well [2896] favoured, [4758] and skilful [7919] in all wisdom, [2451] and cunning [3045] in knowledge, [1847] and understanding [0995] science, [4093] and such as [had] ability [3581] in them to stand [5975] in the king's [4428] palace, [1964] and whom they might teach [3925] the learning [5612] and the tongue [3956] of the Chaldeans.  Et le roi leur assigna, pour chaque jour, une portion des mets de sa table et du vin dont il buvait, afin de les élever ainsi pendant trois ans, au bout desquels ils se tiendraient devant le roi.

 And the king [4428] appointed [4487] them a daily [3117] [3117] provision [1697] of the king's [4428] meat, [6598] and of the wine [3196] which he drank: [4960] so nourishing [1431] them three [7969] years, [8141] that at the end [7117] thereof they might stand [5975] before [6440] the king.  Il y avait parmi eux, d'entre les enfants de Juda, Daniel, Hanania, Mishaël et Azaria.

 Now among these were of the children [1121] of Judah, [3063] Daniel, [1840] Hananiah, [2608] Mishael, [4332] and Azariah: [5838]

 Et le chef des eunuques leur donna d'autres noms: il donna à Daniel le nom de Beltshatsar; à Hanania celui de Shadrac; à Mishaël celui de Méshac; et à Azaria celui d'Abed-Négo.

 Unto whom the prince [8269] of the eunuchs [5631] gave [7760] names: [8034] for he gave [7760] unto Daniel [1840] [the name] of Belteshazzar; [1095] and to Hananiah, [2608] of Shadrach; [7714] and to Mishael, [4332] of Meshach; [4335] and to Azariah, [5838] of Abednego. [5664]

 Or Daniel résolut dans son cœur de ne pas se souiller par les mets du roi, ni par le vin qu'il buvait; et il pria le chef des eunuques de ne pas l'obliger à se souiller.

 But Daniel [1840] purposed [7760] in his heart [3820] that he would not defile [1351] himself with the portion of the king's [4428] meat, [6598] nor with the wine [3196] which he drank: [4960] therefore he requested [1245] of the prince [8269] of the eunuchs [5631] that he might not defile [1351] himself.

 Et Dieu fit trouver à Daniel grâce et faveur auprès du chef des eunuques.

 Now God [0430] had brought [5414] Daniel [1840] into favour [2617] and tender love [7356] with [6440] the prince [8269] of the eunuchs. [5631]

 Et le chef des eunuques dit à Daniel: Je crains le roi mon maître, qui a ordonné votre manger et votre boire. Pourquoi verrait-il vos visages plus défaits que ceux des jeunes gens de votre âge, et mettriez-vous ma tête en danger auprès du roi?

 And the prince [8269] of the eunuchs [5631] said [0559] unto Daniel, [1840] I fear [3373] my lord [0113] the king, [4428] who hath appointed [4487] your meat [3978] and your drink: [4960] for why should he see [7200] your faces [6440] worse liking [2196] than the children [3206] which [are] of your sort? [1524] then shall ye make [me] endanger [2325] my head [7218] to the king. [4428]

 Mais Daniel dit au maître d'hôtel, qui avait été établi par le chef des eunuques sur Daniel, Hanania, Mishaël et Azaria:

 Then said [0559] Daniel [1840] to Melzar, [4453] whom the prince [8269] of the eunuchs [5631] had set [4487] over Daniel, [1840] Hananiah, [2608] Mishael, [4332] and Azariah, [5838]

 Éprouve, je te prie, tes serviteurs pendant dix jours, et qu'on nous donne des légumes à manger et de l'eau à boire;

 Prove [5254] thy servants, [5650] I beseech thee, ten [6235] days; [3117] and let them give [5414] us pulse [2235] to eat, [0398] and water [4325] to drink. [8354]

 Après cela, tu regarderas notre visage et le visage des jeunes gens qui mangent les mets du roi; puis tu feras avec tes serviteurs selon ce que tu auras vu.

 Then let our countenances [4758] be looked upon [7200] before [6440] thee, and the countenance [4758] of the children [3206] that eat [0398] of the portion of the king's [4428] meat: [6598] and as thou seest, [7200] deal [6213] with thy servants. [5650]

 Alors il leur accorda cela, et les éprouva pendant dix jours.

 So he consented [8085] to them in this matter, [1697] and proved [5254] them ten [6235] days. [3117]

 Et au bout de dix jours, on leur vit meilleur visage et plus d'embonpoint qu'à tous les jeunes gens qui mangeaient les mets du roi.

 And at the end [7117] of ten [6235] days [3117] their countenances [4758] appeared [7200] fairer [2896] and fatter [1277] in flesh [1320] than all the children [3206] which did eat [0398] the portion of the king's [4428] meat. [6598]

 C'est pourquoi le maître d'hôtel enlevait les mets qui leur étaient destinés et le vin qu'ils devaient boire, et il leur donnait des légumes.

 Thus Melzar [4453] took away [5375] the portion of their meat, [6598] and the wine [3196] that they should drink; [4960] and gave [5414] them pulse. [2235]

 Or Dieu donna à ces quatre jeunes gens de la science, et de l'intelligence dans toutes les lettres, et de la sagesse; et Daniel comprenait toutes sortes de visions et de songes.

 As for these four [0702] children, [3206] God [0430] gave [5414] them knowledge [4093] and skill [7919] in all learning [5612] and wisdom: [2451] and Daniel [1840] had understanding [0995] in all visions [2377] and dreams. [2472]

 Et au bout des jours fixés par le roi pour qu'on les lui amenât, le chef des eunuques les amena devant Nébucadnetsar.

 Now at the end [7117] of the days [3117] that the king [4428] had said [0559] he should bring them in, [0935] then the prince [8269] of the eunuchs [5631] brought [0935] them in before [6440] Nebuchadnezzar. [5019]

 Le roi s'entretint avec eux; et parmi eux tous, il ne s'en trouva point de tels que Daniel, Hanania, Mishaël et Azaria; et ils entrèrent au service du roi.

 And the king [4428] communed [1696] with them; and among them all was found [4672] none like Daniel, [1840] Hananiah, [2608] Mishael, [4332] and Azariah: [5838] therefore stood [5975] they before [6440] the king. [4428]

 Et dans toute question qui demandait de la sagesse et de l'intelligence, et sur laquelle le roi les interrogeait, il les trouvait dix fois supérieurs à tous les magiciens et astrologues qui étaient dans tout son royaume.

 And in all matters [1697] of wisdom [2451] [and] understanding, [0998] that the king [4428] enquired [1245] of them, he found [4672] them ten [6235] times [3027] better than all the magicians [2748] [and] astrologers [0825] that [were] in all his realm. [4438]

 Ainsi fut Daniel jusqu'à la première année du roi Cyrus.

 And Daniel [1840] continued [even] unto the first [0259] year [8141] of king [4428] Cyrus. [3566]

 Or, la seconde année du règne de Nébucadnetsar, Nébucadnetsar eut des songes; et son esprit fut troublé, et son sommeil interrompu.

 And in the second [8147] year [8141] of the reign [4438] of Nebuchadnezzar [5019] Nebuchadnezzar [5019] dreamed [2492] dreams, [2472] wherewith his spirit [7307] was troubled, [6470] and his sleep [8142] brake [1961] from him.

 Et le roi ordonna d'appeler les magiciens, les astrologues, les enchanteurs et les Chaldéens, pour lui expliquer ses songes. Et ils vinrent et se présentèrent devant le roi.

 Then the king [4428] commanded [0559] to call [7121] the magicians, [2748] and the astrologers, [0825] and the sorcerers, [3784] and the Chaldeans, [3778] for to shew [5046] the king [4428] his dreams. [2472] So they came [0935] and stood [5975] before [6440] the king. [4428]

 Alors le roi leur dit: J'ai eu un songe; et mon esprit s'est agité pour connaître ce songe.

 And the king [4428] said [0559] unto them, I have dreamed [2492] a dream, [2472] and my spirit [7307] was troubled [6470] to know [3045] the dream. [2472]

 Et les Chaldéens dirent au roi en langue araméenne: Ô roi, vis éternellement! Dis le songe à tes serviteurs, et nous en donnerons l'interprétation.

 Then spake [1696] the Chaldeans [3778] to the king [4428] in Syriack, [0762] O king, [4430] live [2418] for ever: [5957] tell [0560] thy servants [5649] the dream, [2493] and we will shew [2324] the interpretation. [6591]

 Le roi répondit, et dit aux Chaldéens: La chose m'a échappé. Si vous ne me faites connaître le songe et son interprétation, vous serez mis en pièces, et vos maisons réduites en un tas d'immondices.

 The king [4430] answered [6032] and said [0560] to the Chaldeans, [3779] The thing [4406] is gone [0230] from me: [4481] if [2006] ye will not [3809] make known [3046] unto me the dream, [2493] with the interpretation [6591] thereof, ye shall be cut [5648] in pieces, [1917] and your houses [1005] shall be made [7761] a dunghill. [5122]

 Mais si vous me dites le songe et son interprétation, vous recevrez de moi des dons, des présents et de grands honneurs. Dites-moi donc le songe et son interprétation.

 But if [2006] ye shew [2324] the dream, [2493] and the interpretation [6591] thereof, ye shall receive [6902] of [4481] me [6925] gifts [4978] and rewards [5023] and great [7690] honour: [3367] therefore [3861] shew [2324] me the dream, [2493] and the interpretation [6591] thereof.

 Ils répondirent pour la seconde fois et dirent: Que le roi dise le songe à ses serviteurs, et nous en donnerons l'interprétation.

 They answered [6032] again [8579] and said, [0560] Let the king [4430] tell [0560] his servants [5649] the dream, [2493] and we will shew [2324] the interpretation [6591] of it.

 Le roi répondit et dit: Je comprends maintenant que vous cherchez à gagner du temps, parce que vous voyez que la chose m'a échappé.

 The king [4430] answered [6032] and said, [0560] I [0576] know [3046] of [4481] certainty [3330] that ye [0608] would gain [2084] the time, [5732] because [6903] [3606] ye see [2370] the thing [4406] is gone [0230] from [4481] me.

 Mais si vous ne me faites pas connaître le songe, la même sentence vous frappera tous; car vous vous êtes préparés à me dire quelque parole fausse et mensongère, en attendant que le temps soit changé. Dites-moi donc le songe, et je saurai si vous pouvez m'en donner l'interprétation.

 But [1768] if [2006] ye will not [3809] make known [3046] unto me the dream, [2493] [there is but] one [1932] [2298] decree [1882] for you: for ye have prepared [2164] lying [3538] and corrupt [7844] words [4406] to speak [0560] before [6925] me, till [5705] the time [5732] be changed: [8133] therefore [3861] tell [0560] me the dream, [2493] and I shall know [3046] that [1768] ye can shew [2324] me the interpretation [6591] thereof.

 Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi et dirent: Il n'y a aucun homme sur la terre qui puisse faire ce que demande le roi; aussi jamais roi, quelque grand et puissant qu'il fût, n'a demandé pareille chose à aucun magicien, astrologue ou Chaldéen.

 The Chaldeans [3779] answered [6032] before [6925] the king, [4430] and said, [0560] There is [0383] not [3809] a man [0606] upon [5922] the earth [3007] that can [3202] shew [2324] the king's [4430] matter: [4406] therefore [3606] [6903] [1768] [there is] no [3809] [3606] king, [4430] lord, [7229] nor ruler, [7990] [that] asked [7593] such [1836] things [4406] at any [3606] magician, [2749] or astrologer, [0826] or Chaldean. [3779]

 Car ce que le roi demande est difficile, et il n'y a personne qui puisse le faire connaître au roi, excepté les dieux, dont l'habitation n'est point parmi les mortels.

 And [it is] a rare [3358] thing [4406] that the king [4430] requireth, [7593] and there is [0383] none [3809] other [0321] that can shew [2324] it before [6925] the king, [4430] except [3861] the gods, [0426] whose dwelling [4070] is [0383] not [3809] with [5974] flesh. [1321]

 Sur cela, le roi s'irrita et se mit dans une grande colère, et il commanda de faire périr tous les sages de Babylone.

 For this cause [3606] [6903] [1836] the king [4430] was angry [1149] and very [7690] furious, [7108] and commanded [0560] to destroy [0007] all [3606] the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon. [0895]

 La sentence fut donc publiée; on mettait à mort tous les sages, et l'on cherchait Daniel et ses compagnons pour les faire mourir.

 And the decree [1882] went forth [5312] that the wise [2445] [men] should be slain; [6992] and they sought [1156] Daniel [1841] and his fellows [2269] to be slain. [6992]

 Alors Daniel parla avec prudence et sagesse à Arioc, chef des gardes du roi, qui sortait pour mettre à mort les sages de Babylone.

 Then [0116] Daniel [1841] answered [8421] with counsel [5843] and wisdom [2942] to Arioch [0746] the captain [7229] of [1768] the king's [4430] guard, [2877] which was gone forth [5312] to slay [6992] the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon: [0895]

 Prenant la parole, il dit à Arioc, le grand officier du roi: Pourquoi cette sentence si sévère de la part du roi? Alors Arioc fit connaître l'affaire à Daniel.

 He answered [6032] and said [0560] to Arioch [0746] the king's [4430] captain, [7990] Why [4101] [5922] [is] the decree [1882] [so] hasty [2685] from [4481] [6925] the king? [4430] Then [0116] Arioch [0746] made the thing [4406] known [3046] to Daniel. [1841]

 Et Daniel entra et pria le roi de lui accorder du temps pour donner l'interprétation au roi.

 Then Daniel [1841] went in, [5954] and desired [1156] of [4481] the king [4430] that he would give [5415] him time, [2166] and that he would shew [2324] the king [4430] the interpretation. [6591]

 Puis Daniel alla dans sa maison et informa de cette affaire Hanania, Mishaël et Azaria, ses compagnons,

 Then [0116] Daniel [1841] went [0236] to his house, [1005] and made the thing [4406] known [3046] to Hananiah, [2608] Mishael, [4333] and Azariah, [5839] his companions: [2269]

 Pour implorer la miséricorde du Dieu des cieux touchant ce secret, afin qu'on ne fit point périr Daniel et ses compagnons, avec le reste des sages de Babylone.

 That they would desire [1156] mercies [7359] of [4481] [6925] the God [0426] of heaven [8065] concerning [5922] this [1836] secret; [7328] that Daniel [1841] and his fellows [2269] should not [3809] perish [0007] with [5974] the rest [7606] of the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon. [0895]

 Alors le secret fut révélé à Daniel, dans une vision, pendant la nuit. Et Daniel bénit le Dieu des cieux.

 Then [0116] was the secret [7328] revealed [1541] unto Daniel [1840] in a night [3916] vision. [2376] Then [0116] Daniel [1841] blessed [1289] the God [0426] of heaven. [8065]

 Daniel prit la parole et dit: Béni soit le nom de Dieu, d'éternité en éternité; car c'est à lui qu'appartiennent la sagesse et la force!

 Daniel [1841] answered [6032] and said, [0560] Blessed [1289] be [1934] the name [8036] of God [0426] for [4481] ever [5957] and [5705] ever: [5957] for wisdom [2452] and might [1370] are [1932] his:

 Et c'est lui qui change les temps et les moments; qui dépose les rois et qui les établit; qui donne la sagesse aux sages, et la science à ceux qui ont de l'intelligence.

 And he changeth [8133] the times [5732] and the seasons: [2166] he removeth [5709] kings, [4430] and setteth up [6966] kings: [4430] he giveth [3052] wisdom [2452] unto the wise, [2445] and knowledge [4486] to them that know [3046] understanding: [0999]

 C'est lui qui révèle les choses profondes et cachées. Il connaît ce qui est dans les ténèbres, et la lumière demeure avec lui.

 He revealeth [1541] the deep [5994] and secret things: [5642] he knoweth [3046] what [4101] [is] in the darkness, [2816] and the light [5094] dwelleth [8271] with him. [5974]

 Ô Dieu de mes pères! je te célèbre et je te loue de ce que tu m'as donné sagesse et force, et de ce que tu m'as fait connaître maintenant ce que nous t'avons demandé; car tu nous as révélé l'affaire du roi.

 I [0576] thank [3029] thee, and praise [7624] thee, O thou God [0426] of my fathers, [0002] who hast given [3052] me wisdom [2452] and might, [1370] and hast made known [3046] unto me now [3705] what we desired [1156] of thee: [4481] for thou hast [now] made known [3046] unto us the king's [4430] matter. [4406]

 C'est pourquoi Daniel alla vers Arioc, à qui le roi avait ordonné de faire périr tous les sages de Babylone; il alla et lui parla ainsi: Ne fais pas périr tous les sages de Babylone. Introduis-moi auprès du roi, et je donnerai au roi l'interprétation.

 Therefore [3606] [6903] [1836] Daniel [1841] went in [5954] unto [5922] Arioch, [0746] whom the king [4430] had ordained [4483] to destroy [0007] the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon: [0895] he went [0236] and said [0560] thus [3652] unto him; Destroy [0007] not [0409] the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon: [0895] bring me in [5954] before [6925] the king, [4430] and I will shew [2324] unto the king [4430] the interpretation. [6591]

 Alors Arioc introduisit promptement Daniel auprès du roi, et lui parla ainsi: J'ai trouvé parmi les captifs de Juda un homme qui donnera au roi l'interprétation.

 Then [0116] Arioch [0746] brought in [5954] Daniel [1841] before [6925] the king [4430] in haste, [0927] and said [0560] thus [3652] unto him, I have found [7912] a man [1400] of [4481] the captives [1123] [1547] of Judah, [3061] that will make known [3046] unto the king [4430] the interpretation. [6591]

 Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel, qu'on appelait Beltshatsar: Es-tu capable de me faire connaître le songe que j'ai eu et son interprétation?

 The king [4430] answered [6032] and said [0560] to Daniel, [1841] whose name [8036] [was] Belteshazzar, [1096] Art [0383] thou able [3546] to make known [3046] unto me the dream [2493] which I have seen, [2370] and the interpretation [6591] thereof?

 Daniel répondit en présence du roi et dit: Le secret que le roi demande, ni les sages, ni les astrologues, ni les magiciens, ni les devins ne sont capables de le découvrir au roi.

 Daniel [1841] answered [6032] in the presence [6925] of the king, [4430] and said, [0560] The secret [7328] which the king [4430] hath demanded [7593] cannot [3809] [3202] the wise [2445] [men], the astrologers, [0826] the magicians, [2749] the soothsayers, [1505] shew [2324] unto the king; [4430]

 Mais il y a un Dieu dans les cieux qui révèle les secrets, et il a fait connaître au roi Nébucadnetsar ce qui doit arriver dans la suite des jours. Voici ton songe et les visions de ta tête sur ta couche:

 But [1297] there is [0383] a God [0426] in heaven [8065] that revealeth [1541] secrets, [7328] and maketh known [3046] to the king [4430] Nebuchadnezzar [5020] what [4101] shall be [1934] in the latter [0320] days. [3118] Thy dream, [2493] and the visions [2376] of thy head [7217] upon [5922] thy bed, [4903] are these; [1836]

 Ô roi! il t'est monté des pensées sur ta couche, touchant ce qui arrivera dans la suite. Et celui qui révèle les secrets t'a fait connaître ce qui arrivera.

 As for thee, [0607] O king, [4430] thy thoughts [7476] came [5559] [into thy mind] upon [5922] thy bed, [4903] what [4101] should come to pass [1934] hereafter: [0311] [1836] and he that revealeth [1541] secrets [7328] maketh known [3046] to thee what [4101] shall come to pass. [1934]

 Et ce secret m'a été révélé, non qu'il y ait eu en moi plus de sagesse qu'en aucun des vivants, mais pour que l'interprétation en soit donnée au roi, et que tu connaisses les pensées de ton cœur.

 But as for me, [0576] this [1836] secret [7328] is not [3809] revealed [1541] to me for [any] wisdom [2452] that I have [0383] more than [4481] any [3606] living, [2417] but [3861] for [5922] [their] sakes [1701] that shall make known [3046] the interpretation [6591] to the king, [4430] and that thou mightest know [3046] the thoughts [7476] of thy heart. [3825]

 Ô roi! tu regardais, et tu voyais une grande statue; cette statue était immense et d'une splendeur extraordinaire; elle était debout devant toi, et son aspect était terrible.

 Thou, [0607] O king, [4430] sawest, [1934] [2370] and behold [0431] a [2298] great [7690] image. [6755] This [1797] great [7229] image, [6755] whose brightness [2122] [was] excellent, [3493] stood [6966] before [6903] thee; and the form [7299] thereof [was] terrible. [1763]

 La tête de la statue était d'or fin; sa poitrine et ses bras étaient d'argent; son ventre et ses hanches étaient d'airain;

 This image's [6755] head [7217] [was] of fine [2869] gold, [1722] his breast [2306] and his arms [1872] of silver, [3702] his belly [4577] and his thighs [3410] of brass, [5174]

 Ses jambes étaient de fer; et ses pieds, en partie de fer et en partie d'argile.

 His legs [8243] of iron, [6523] his feet [7271] part [4481] of iron [6523] and part [4481] of clay. [2635]

 Tu regardais, jusqu'à ce qu'une pierre fut détachée sans le secours d'aucune main et frappa la statue dans ses pieds, qui étaient de fer et d'argile, et les brisa.

 Thou sawest [2370] [1934] till [5705] that a stone [0069] was cut out [1505] without [3809] hands, [3028] which smote [4223] the image [6755] upon [5922] his feet [7271] [that were] of iron [6523] and clay, [2635] and brake them [1994] to pieces. [1855]

 Alors le fer, l'argile, l'airain, l'argent et l'or furent brisés ensemble, et devinrent comme la balle de l'aire en été; et le vent les emporta, et il ne s'en trouva plus de vestige; mais la pierre qui avait frappé la statue devint une grande montagne et remplit toute la terre.

 Il y aura un quatrième royaume, fort comme du fer; de même que le fer brise et rompt tout, ainsi, pareil au fer qui brise et met tout en pièces, il brisera et mettra tout en pièces.

 Et comme tu as vu les pieds et les doigts en partie d'argile et en partie de fer, ce sera un royaume divisé; mais il y aura en lui de la force du fer, parce que tu as vu le fer mêlé avec l'argile;

 Et comme les doigts des pieds étaient en partie de fer et en partie d'argile, ce royaume sera en partie fort et en partie fragile.

 Et dans le temps de ces rois, le Dieu des cieux suscitera un royaume qui ne sera jamais détruit; et ce royaume ne passera point à un autre peuple; il brisera et anéantira tous ces royaumes-là, et lui-même subsistera éternellement,

 Maintenant donc, voyez si vous êtes prêts, au moment où vous entendrez le son de la trompette, de la flûte, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la cornemuse et de toutes sortes d'instruments, à vous prosterner et à adorer la statue que j'ai faite; mais si vous ne vous prosternez pas, au même instant vous serez jetés dans la fournaise de feu ardent. Et quel est ce Dieu qui vous délivrera de ma main?

 Alors Nébucadnetsar fut rempli de fureur, et l'air de son visage fut changé, à cause de Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Négo; et il prit la parole et ordonna de chauffer la fournaise sept fois plus qu'on n'avait coutume de la chauffer.

 Alors ces hommes furent liés avec leurs tuniques, leurs robes, leurs manteaux et leurs autres vêtements, et jetés au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent.

 Then [0116] these [0479] men [1400] were bound [3729] in their coats, [5622] their hosen, [6361] [6361] and their hats, [3737] and their [other] garments, [3831] and were cast [7412] into the midst [1459] of the burning [3345] fiery [5135] furnace. [0861]

 Et comme l'ordre du roi était sévère, et que la fournaise était extraordinairement chauffée, la flamme tua les hommes qui y avaient jeté Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Négo.

 Alors le roi Nébucadnetsar fut tout stupéfait, et il se leva précipitamment. Il prit la parole et dit à ses conseillers: N'avons-nous pas jeté au milieu du feu trois hommes liés? Ils répondirent et dirent au roi: Certainement, ô roi!

 Il reprit et dit: Voici, je vois quatre hommes sans liens, qui marchent au milieu du feu, sans éprouver de mal; et l'aspect du quatrième est semblable au Fils de Dieu.

 He answered [6032] and said, [0560] Lo, [1888] I [0576] see [2370] four [0703] men [1400] loose, [8271] walking [1981] in the midst [1459] of the fire, [5135] and they have [0383] no [3809] hurt; [2257] and the form [7299] of the fourth [7244] is like [1821] the Son [1247] of God. [0426]

 Alors Nébucadnetsar s'approcha de l'entrée de la fournaise de feu ardent. Il prit la parole et dit: Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Négo, serviteurs du Dieu souverain, sortez et venez! Alors Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Négo sortirent du milieu du feu.

 Puis les satrapes, les préfets, les gouverneurs et les conseillers du roi s'assemblèrent; ils virent que le feu n'avait eu aucun pouvoir sur le corps de ces hommes, de sorte qu'aucun cheveu de leur tête n'était brûlé, que leurs tuniques n'avaient point changé, et que l'odeur du feu n'avait point passé sur eux.

 And the princes, [0324] governors, [5460] and captains, [6347] and the king's [4430] counsellors, [1907] being gathered together, [3673] saw [2370] these [0479] men, [1400] upon whose bodies [1655] the fire [5135] had no [3809] power, [7981] nor [3809] was an hair [8177] of their head [7217] singed, [2761] neither [3809] were their coats [5622] changed, [8133] nor [3809] the smell [7382] of fire [5135] had passed [5709] on them.

 Nébucadnetsar prit la parole et dit: Béni soit le Dieu de Shadrac, de Méshac et d'Abed-Négo, lequel a envoyé son ange et délivré ses serviteurs qui se sont confiés en lui, et qui ont violé l'édit du roi, et ont livré leurs corps, afin de ne servir et de n'adorer aucun autre dieu que leur Dieu!

 J'eus un songe qui m'épouvanta, et mes pensées sur ma couche et les visions de ma tête me troublèrent.

 I saw [2370] a dream [2493] which made me afraid, [1763] and the thoughts [2031] upon [5922] my bed [4903] and the visions [2376] of my head [7217] troubled [0927] me.

 Et de ma part ordre fut donné de faire venir devant moi tous les sages de Babylone, afin qu'ils me donnassent l'interprétation du songe.

 Therefore made [7761] I [4481] a decree [2942] to bring in [5954] all [3606] the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon [0895] before [6925] me, that they might make known [3046] unto me the interpretation [6591] of the dream. [2493]

 Alors vinrent les magiciens, les astrologues, les Chaldéens et les devins, et je leur dis le songe, mais ils ne m'en firent pas connaître l'interprétation.

 Then [0116] came in [5954] the magicians, [2749] the astrologers, [0826] the Chaldeans, [3779] and the soothsayers: [1505] and I [0576] told [0560] the dream [2493] before [6925] them; but they did not [3809] make known [3046] unto me the interpretation [6591] thereof.

 Et à la fin, Daniel, qui est nommé Beltshatsar, selon le nom de mon dieu, et en qui est l'esprit des dieux saints, se présenta devant moi, et je lui dis le songe.

 But at [5705] the last [0318] Daniel [1841] came in [5922] before [6925] me, whose name [8036] [was] Belteshazzar, [1096] according to the name [8036] of my god, [0426] and in whom [is] the spirit [7308] of the holy [6922] gods: [0426] and before [6925] him I told [0560] the dream, [2493] [saying],

 Beltshatsar, chef des magiciens, comme je sais que l'esprit des dieux saints est en toi, et que nul secret ne t'est difficile, dis-moi les visions que j'ai eues en songe et donne-m'en l'interprétation.

 O Belteshazzar, [1096] master [7229] of the magicians, [2749] because I [0576] know [3046] that the spirit [7308] of the holy [6922] gods [0426] [is] in thee, and no [3606] [3809] secret [7328] troubleth [0598] thee, tell [0560] me the visions [2376] of my dream [2493] that I have seen, [2370] and the interpretation [6591] thereof.

 Voici quelles étaient les visions de ma tête, sur ma couche: Je regardais, et voici il y avait un arbre au milieu de la terre, et sa hauteur était grande.

 Thus [were] the visions [2376] of mine head [7217] in [5922] my bed; [4903] I saw, [1934] [2370] and behold [0431] a tree [0363] in the midst [1459] of the earth, [0772] and the height [7314] thereof [was] great. [7690]

 Cet arbre était devenu grand et fort, et sa cime touchait aux cieux, et on le voyait de tous les bouts de la terre.

 The tree [0363] grew, [7236] and was strong, [8631] and the height [7314] thereof reached [4291] unto heaven, [8065] and the sight [2379] thereof to the end [5491] of all [3606] the earth: [0772]

 Son feuillage était beau et son fruit abondant; il y avait sur lui de la nourriture pour tous; les bêtes des champs se mettaient à l'ombre sous lui, et les oiseaux du ciel se tenaient dans ses branches, et de lui se nourrissait toute chair.

 The leaves [6074] thereof [were] fair, [8209] and the fruit [0004] thereof much, [7690] and in it [was] meat [4203] for all: [3606] the beasts [2423] of the field [1251] had shadow [2927] under [8460] it, and the fowls [6853] of the heaven [8065] dwelt [1753] in the boughs [6056] thereof, and all [3606] flesh [1321] was fed [2110] of it.  Je regardais, dans les visions de ma tête, sur ma couche, et voici un des saints qui veillent descendit du ciel.

 I saw [1934] [2370] in the visions [2376] of my head [7217] upon [5922] my bed, [4903] and, behold, [0431] a watcher [5894] and an holy one [6922] came down [5182] from [4481] heaven; [8065]

 Il cria à haute voix, et parla ainsi: Coupez l'arbre, et l'ébranchez; abattez son feuillage, et dispersez son fruit; que les bêtes fuient de dessous, et les oiseaux du milieu de ses branches!

 He cried [7123] aloud, [2429] and said [0560] thus, [3652] Hew down [1414] the tree, [0363] and cut off [7113] his branches, [6056] shake off [5426] his leaves, [6074] and scatter [0921] his fruit: [0004] let the beasts [2423] get away [5111] from [4481] under it, [8479] and the fowls [6853] from [4481] his branches: [6056]

 Toutefois laissez en terre le tronc de ses racines, et liez-le avec une chaîne de fer et d'airain, parmi l'herbe des champs. Qu'il soit trempé de la rosée du ciel, et qu'avec les animaux il ait sa portion de l'herbe de la terre.

 Nevertheless [1297] leave [7662] the stump [6136] of his roots [8330] in the earth, [0772] even with a band [0613] of iron [6523] and brass, [5174] in the tender grass [1883] of the field; [1251] and let it be wet [6647] with the dew [2920] of heaven, [8065] and [let] his portion [2508] [be] with [5974] the beasts [2423] in the grass [6211] of the earth: [0772]

 Que son cœur d'homme soit changé, et qu'un cœur de bête lui soit donné, et que sept temps passent sur lui.

 Let his heart [3825] be changed [8133] from [4481] man's, [0606] and let a beast's [2423] heart [3825] be given [3052] unto him; and let seven [7655] times [5732] pass [2499] over [5922] him.

 La sentence est rendue par le décret des vigilants, et la décision est l'ordre des saints, afin que les vivants sachent que le Souverain domine sur le règne des hommes, et qu'il le donne à qui il veut, et qu'il y élève le plus abject des hommes.

 This matter [6600] [is] by the decree [1510] of the watchers, [5894] and the demand [7595] by the word [3983] of the holy ones: [6922] to [5705] the intent [1701] that the living [2417] may know [3046] that the most High [5943] ruleth [7990] in the kingdom [4437] of men, [0606] and giveth [5415] it to whomsoever [4479] he will, [6634] and setteth up [6966] over [5922] it the basest [8215] of men.  Tel est le songe que j'ai eu, moi, le roi Nébucadnetsar. Toi donc, Beltshatsar, donnes-en l'interprétation, puisque aucun des sages de mon royaume ne peut me la donner; mais pour toi, tu le peux, car l'esprit des dieux saints est en toi.

 This [1836] dream [2493] I [0576] king [4430] Nebuchadnezzar [5020] have seen. [2370] Now thou, [0607] O Belteshazzar, [1096] declare [0560] the interpretation [6591] thereof, forasmuch as [3606] [6903] [1768] all [3606] the wise [2445] [men] of my kingdom [4437] are not [3809] able [3202] to make known [3046] unto me the interpretation: [6591] but thou [0607] [art] able; [3546] for the spirit [7308] of the holy [6922] gods [0426] [is] in thee.

 Alors Daniel, qui est nommé Beltshatsar, demeura un instant stupéfait, et ses pensées le troublaient. Le roi prit la parole et dit: Beltshatsar, que le songe et l'interprétation ne te troublent pas. Beltshatsar répondit, et dit: Mon seigneur! que le songe soit pour ceux qui te haïssent, et sa signification pour tes adversaires!

 Then [0116] Daniel, [1841] whose name [8036] [was] Belteshazzar, [1096] was astonied [8075] for one [2298] hour, [8160] and his thoughts [7476] troubled [0927] him. The king [4430] spake, [6032] and said, [0560] Belteshazzar, [1096] let not [0409] the dream, [2493] or the interpretation [6591] thereof, trouble [0927] thee. Belteshazzar [1096] answered [6032] and said, [0560] My lord, [4756] the dream [2493] [be] to them that hate [8131] thee, and the interpretation [6591]

 L'arbre que tu as vu, et qui était devenu grand et fort, dont la cime touchait aux cieux, et qu'on voyait de toute la terre;

 The tree [0363] that thou sawest, [2370] which grew, [7236] and was strong, [8631] whose height [7314] reached [4291] unto the heaven, [8065] and the sight [2379] thereof to all [3606] the earth; [0772]

 Cet arbre dont le feuillage était beau et le fruit abondant, qui avait de la nourriture pour tous, sous lequel les bêtes des champs demeuraient, et dans les branches duquel se tenaient les oiseaux du ciel:

 Whose leaves [6074] [were] fair, [8209] and the fruit [0004] thereof much, [7690] and in it [was] meat [4203] for all; [3606] under [8460] which the beasts [2423] of the field [1251] dwelt, [1753] and upon whose branches [6056] the fowls [6853] of the heaven [8065] had their habitation: [7932]

 C'est toi, ô roi! qui es devenu grand et puissant, dont la grandeur s'est accrue et s'est élevée jusqu'aux cieux, et dont la domination s'étend jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

 It [is] thou, [0607] O king, [4430] that art grown [7236] and become strong: [8631] for thy greatness [7238] is grown, [7236] and reacheth [4291] unto heaven, [8065] and thy dominion [7985] to the end [5491] of the earth. [0772]

 Quant à ce que le roi a vu un des saints qui veillent, descendre du ciel en disant: "Coupez l'arbre et le détruisez; toutefois laissez en terre le tronc de ses racines, et liez-le avec des chaînes de fer et d'airain parmi l'herbe des champs; qu'il soit trempé de la rosée du ciel, et qu'il ait sa portion avec les bêtes des champs, jusqu'à ce que sept temps aient passé sur lui",

 And whereas the king [4430] saw [2370] a watcher [5894] and an holy one [6922] coming down [5182] from [4481] heaven, [8065] and saying, [0560] Hew the tree [0363] down, [1414] and destroy [2255] it; yet [1297] leave [7662] the stump [6136] of the roots [8330] thereof in the earth, [0772] even with a band [0613] of iron [6523] and brass, [5174] in the tender grass [1883] of the field; [1251] and let it be wet [6647] with the dew [2920] of heaven, [8065] and [let] his port

 En voici l'interprétation, ô roi! et c'est la sentence du Souverain qui va atteindre le roi, mon seigneur.

 This [1836] [is] the interpretation, [6591] O king, [4430] and this [1932] [is] the decree [1510] of the most High, [5943] which is come [4291] upon [5922] my lord [4756] the king: [4430]

 On te chassera du milieu des hommes, et ton habitation sera avec les bêtes des champs. Tu seras nourri d'herbe comme les bœufs, et tu seras trempé de la rosée du ciel, et sept temps passeront sur toi, jusqu'à ce que tu reconnaisses que le Souverain domine sur le règne des hommes et qu'il le donne à qui il lui plaît.

 That they shall drive [2957] thee from [4481] men, [0606] and thy dwelling [4070] shall be [1934] with [5974] the beasts [2423] of the field, [1251] and they shall make thee to eat [2939] grass [6211] as oxen, [8450] and they shall wet [6647] thee with the dew [2920] of heaven, [8065] and seven [7655] times [5732] shall pass [2499] over [5922] thee, till [5705] thou know [3046] that the most High [5943] ruleth [7990] in the kingdom [4437] of men, [0606] and giveth [5415]

 Et s'il a été dit de laisser le tronc des racines de l'arbre, cela signifie que ton règne te sera restitué dès que tu auras reconnu que les cieux dominent.

 And whereas they commanded [0560] to leave [7662] the stump [6136] of the tree [0363] roots; [8330] thy kingdom [4437] shall be sure [7011] unto thee, after [4481] that thou shalt have known [3046] that the heavens [8065] do rule. [7990]

 C'est pourquoi, ô roi! agrée mon conseil, et mets un terme à tes péchés par la justice, et à tes iniquités par la miséricorde envers les pauvres, si ta prospérité doit se prolonger.

 Wherefore, [3861] O king, [4430] let my counsel [4431] be acceptable [8232] unto thee, [5922] and break off [6562] thy sins [2408] by righteousness, [6665] and thine iniquities [5758] by shewing mercy [2604] to the poor; [6033] if [2006] it may be [1934] a lengthening [0754] of thy tranquillity. [7963]

 Toutes ces choses arrivèrent au roi Nébucadnetsar.

 All [3606] this came [4291] upon [5922] the king [4430] Nebuchadnezzar. [5020]

 Au bout de douze mois, comme il se promenait sur le palais royal de Babylone,

 At the end [7118] of twelve [8648] [6236] months [3393] he walked [1934] [1981] in [5922] the palace [1965] of the kingdom [4437] of Babylon. [0895]

 Le roi prit la parole et dit: "N'est-ce pas ici la grande Babylone, que j'ai bâtie pour être la demeure royale, par la puissance de ma force et pour la gloire de ma magnificence?"

 The king [4430] spake, [6032] and said, [0560] Is not [3809] this [1932] [1668] great [7229] Babylon, [0895] that I [0576] have built [1124] for the house [1005] of the kingdom [4437] by the might [8632] of my power, [2632] and for the honour [3367] of my majesty? [1923]

 La parole était encore dans la bouche du roi, qu'une voix descendit du ciel: Roi Nébucadnetsar, on t'annonce que ta royauté va t'être ôtée.

 While [5751] the word [4406] [was] in the king's [4430] mouth, [6433] there fell [5308] a voice [7032] from [4481] heaven, [8065] [saying], O king [4430] Nebuchadnezzar, [5020] to thee it is spoken; [0560] The kingdom [4437] is departed [5709] from [4481] thee.

 Au même instant la parole s'accomplit sur Nébucadnetsar; il fut chassé du milieu des hommes, et il mangea l'herbe comme les bœufs; son corps fut trempé de la rosée du ciel, jusqu'à ce que ses cheveux crussent comme les plumes de l'aigle, et ses ongles comme ceux des oiseaux.

 The same hour [8160] was the thing [4406] fulfilled [5487] upon [5922] Nebuchadnezzar: [5020] and he was driven [2957] from [4481] men, [0606] and did eat [0399] grass [6211] as oxen, [8450] and his body [1655] was wet [6647] with the dew [2920] of heaven, [8065] till [5705] his hairs [8177] were grown [7236] like eagles' [5403] [feathers], and his nails [2953] like birds' [6853] [claws].

 Mais à la fin de ces jours-là, moi, Nébucadnetsar, je levai les yeux vers le ciel; le sens me revint, et je bénis LE SOUVERAIN, et je magnifiai, et j'honorai Celui qui vit éternellement, dont la puissance est une puissance éternelle, dont le règne dure de génération en génération.

 And at the end [7118] of the days [3118] I [0576] Nebuchadnezzar [5020] lifted up [5191] mine eyes [5870] unto heaven, [8065] and mine understanding [4486] returned [8421] unto me, [5922] and I blessed [1289] the most High, [5943] and I praised [7624] and honoured [1922] him that liveth [2417] for ever, [5957] whose dominion [7985] [is] an everlasting [5957] dominion, [7985] and his kingdom [4437] [is] from [5974] generation [1859] to generation: [1859]

 Devant lui tous les habitants de la terre sont estimés néant; il fait ce qu'il lui plaît, tant de l'armée des cieux que des habitants de la terre, et il n'y a personne qui puisse arrêter sa main et lui dire: Que fais-tu?

 And all [3606] the inhabitants [1753] of the earth [0772] [are] reputed [2804] as nothing: [3809] and he doeth [5648] according to his will [6634] in the army [2429] of heaven, [8065] and [among] the inhabitants [1753] of the earth: [0772] and none [3809] can [0383] stay [4223] his hand, [3028] or say [0560] unto him, What [4101] doest [5648] thou?

 En ce temps-là, le sens me revint; la gloire de mon royaume, ma majesté et ma splendeur me furent rendues; mes conseillers et mes grands me redemandèrent; je fus rétabli dans mon royaume, et une plus grande puissance me fut donnée.

 At the same time [2166] my reason [4486] returned [8421] unto me; [5922] and for the glory [3367] of my kingdom, [4437] mine honour [1923] and brightness [2122] returned [8421] unto me; [5922] and my counsellors [1907] and my lords [7261] sought [1156] unto me; and [5922] I was established [8627] in my kingdom, [4437] and excellent [3493] majesty [7238] was added [3255] unto me.

 Maintenant, moi, Nébucadnetsar, je loue, j'exalte et je glorifie LE ROI DES CIEUX, dont toutes les œuvres sont véritables, et les voies justes; et qui peut abaisser ceux qui marchent avec orgueil.

 Now [3705] I [0576] Nebuchadnezzar [5020] praise [7624] and extol [7313] and honour [1922] the King [4430] of heaven, [8065] all [3606] whose works [4567] [are] truth, [7187] and his ways [0735] judgment: [1780] and those that walk [1981] in pride [1467] he is able [3202] to abase. [8214]

 Le roi Belshatsar donna un grand festin à ses mille grands seigneurs, et en présence de ces mille il but du vin.

 Belshazzar [1113] the king [4430] made [5648] a great [7229] feast [3900] to a thousand [0506] of his lords, [7261] and drank [8355] wine [2562] before [6903] the thousand. [0506]

 Belshatsar, animé par le goût du vin, ordonna qu'on apportât les vases d'or et d'argent que Nébucadnetsar, son père, avait enlevés du temple de Jérusalem, afin que le roi et ses grands, ses femmes et ses concubines y bussent.

 Belshazzar, [1113] whiles he tasted [2942] the wine, [2562] commanded [0560] to bring [0858] the golden [1722] and silver [3702] vessels [3984] which his father [0002] Nebuchadnezzar [5020] had taken out [5312] of [4481] the temple [1965] which [was] in Jerusalem; [3390] that the king, [4430] and his princes, [7261] his wives, [7695] and his concubines, [3904] might drink [8355] therein.

 Alors on apporta les vases d'or qui avaient été enlevés du temple, de la maison de Dieu, à Jérusalem; et le roi et ses grands, ses femmes et ses concubines y burent.

 Then [0116] they brought [0858] the golden [1722] vessels [3984] that were taken out [5312] of [4481] the temple [1965] of the house [1005] of God [0426] which [was] at Jerusalem; [3390] and the king, [4430] and his princes, [7261] his wives, [7695] and his concubines, [3904] drank [8355] in them.

 Ils burent du vin et ils louèrent les dieux d'or et d'argent, d'airain, de fer, de bois et de pierre.

 They drank [8355] wine, [2562] and praised [7624] the gods [0426] of gold, [1722] and of silver, [3702] of brass, [5174] of iron, [6523] of wood, [0636] and of stone. [0069]

 À ce moment-là, on vit sortir les doigts d'une main d'homme, et ils écrivaient vis-à-vis du lampadaire, sur l'enduit de la muraille du palais royal; et le roi vit cette partie de main qui écrivait.

 In the same hour [8160] came forth [5312] fingers [0677] of a man's [0606] hand, [3028] and wrote [3790] over against [6903] the candlestick [5043] upon [5922] the plaister [1528] of the wall [3797] of the king's [4430] palace: [1965] and the king [4430] saw [2370] the part [6447] of the hand [3028] that wrote. [3790]

 Alors le roi changea d'attitude, et ses pensées le troublèrent; les jointures de ses reins se relâchèrent, et ses genoux se heurtèrent l'un contre l'autre.

 Then [0116] the king's [4430] countenance [2122] was changed, [8133] and his thoughts [7476] troubled [0927] him, so that the joints [7001] of his loins [2783] were loosed, [8271] and his knees [0755] smote [5368] one [1668] against another. [1668]

 Le roi cria avec force qu'on fît venir les astrologues, les Chaldéens et les devins. Le roi prit la parole et dit aux sages de Babylone: Quiconque lira cette écriture et m'en donnera l'interprétation sera revêtu de pourpre, il aura un collier d'or à son cou, et sera le troisième dans le gouvernement du royaume.

 The king [4430] cried [7123] aloud [2429] to bring in [5954] the astrologers, [0826] the Chaldeans, [3779] and the soothsayers. [1505] [And] the king [4430] spake, [6032] and said [0560] to the wise [2445] [men] of Babylon, [0895] Whosoever [0606] [3606] shall read [7123] this [1836] writing, [3792] and shew [2324] me the interpretation [6591] thereof, shall be clothed [3848] with scarlet, [0711] and [have] a chain [2002] of gold [1722] about [5922] his neck, [6676] and

 Alors les sages du roi entrèrent; mais ils ne purent lire l'écriture, ni en donner au roi l'interprétation.

 Then [0116] came in [5954] all [3606] the king's [4430] wise [2445] [men]: but they could [3546] not [3809] read [7123] the writing, [3792] nor make known [3046] to the king [4430] the interpretation [6591] thereof.

 De sorte que le roi Belshatsar fut fort troublé, son allure changea et ses grands furent consternés.

 Then [0116] was king [4430] Belshazzar [1113] greatly [7690] troubled, [0927] and his countenance [2122] was changed [8133] in him, [5922] and his lords [7261] were astonied. [7672]

 La reine entra dans la salle du festin, à cause des paroles du roi et de ses grands. La reine prit la parole et dit: Roi, vis éternellement! que tes pensées ne te troublent point, et que ton allure ne soit pas altérée.

 [Now] the queen, [4433] by reason [6903] of the words [4406] of the king [4430] and his lords, [7261] came [5954] into the banquet [4961] house: [1005] [and] the queen [4433] spake [6032] and said, [0560] O king, [4430] live [2418] for ever: [5957] let not [0409] thy thoughts [7476] trouble [0927] thee, nor [0409] let thy countenance [2122] be changed: [8133]

 Il y a un homme dans ton royaume en qui est l'esprit des dieux saints; et du temps de ton père, on trouva en lui une lumière, une intelligence et une sagesse semblables à la sagesse des dieux; et le roi Nébucadnetsar ton père, - ton père, ô roi! - l'établit chef des magiciens, des astrologues, des Chaldéens et des devins,

 There is [0383] a man [1400] in thy kingdom, [4437] in whom [is] the spirit [7308] of the holy [6922] gods; [0426] and in the days [3118] of thy father [0002] light [5094] and understanding [7924] and wisdom, [2452] like the wisdom [2452] of the gods, [0426] was found [7912] in him; whom the king [4430] Nebuchadnezzar [5020] thy father, [0002] the king, [4430] [I say], thy father, [0002] made [6966] master [7229] of the magicians, [2749] astrologers, [0826] Chaldeans,

 Parce qu'on trouva en lui, Daniel, que le roi avait nommé Beltshatsar, un esprit extraordinaire, et de la connaissance, et de l'intelligence pour interpréter les songes, expliquer les énigmes et résoudre les questions difficiles. Que Daniel soit donc appelé, et il donnera l'interprétation.

 Forasmuch as [6903] [3606] an excellent [3493] spirit, [7308] and knowledge, [4486] and understanding, [7924] interpreting [6590] of dreams, [2493] and shewing [0263] of hard sentences, [0280] and dissolving [8271] of doubts, [7001] were found [7912] in the same Daniel, [1841] whom the king [4430] named [7761] [8036] Belteshazzar: [1096] now [3705] let Daniel [1841] be called, [7123] and he will shew [2324] the interpretation. [6591]

 Alors Daniel fut introduit devant le roi. Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel: Es-tu ce Daniel, l'un des captifs de Juda, que le roi, mon père, a amenés de Juda?

 Then [0116] was Daniel [1841] brought in [5954] before [6925] the king.  Et maintenant les sages, les astrologues ont été amenés devant moi, afin de lire cette écriture et de m'en donner l'interprétation, mais ils ne peuvent donner l'interprétation de la chose.

 And now [3705] the wise [2445] [men], the astrologers, [0826] have been brought in [5954] before [6925] me, that they should read [7123] this [1836] writing, [3792] and make known [3046] unto me the interpretation [6591] thereof: but they could [3546] not [3809] shew [2324] the interpretation [6591] of the thing: [4406]

 Or j'ai entendu dire que tu peux donner des explications et résoudre les questions difficiles. Si donc tu peux lire cette écriture et m'en donner l'interprétation, tu seras revêtu de pourpre et tu porteras un collier d'or à ton cou, et tu seras le troisième dans le gouvernement du royaume.

 And I [0576] have heard [8086] of thee, [5922] that thou canst [3202] make [6590] interpretations, [6591] and dissolve [8271] doubts: [7001] now [3705] if [2006] thou canst [3202] read [7123] the writing, [3792] and make known [3046] to me the interpretation [6591] thereof, thou shalt be clothed [3848] with scarlet, [0711] and [have] a chain [2002] of gold [1722] about [5922] thy neck, [6676] and shalt be the third [8531] ruler [7981] in the kingdom.  Alors Daniel répondit, et dit devant le roi: Que tes dons te demeurent, et fais à un autre tes présents; toutefois je lirai l'écriture au roi, et je lui en donnerai l'interprétation.

 Ô roi! le Dieu souverain avait donné à Nébucadnetsar, ton père, la royauté et la grandeur, la gloire et la magnificence.

 Et à cause de la grandeur qu'il lui avait donnée, tous les peuples, nations et langues tremblaient devant lui et le redoutaient. Il faisait mourir ceux qu'il voulait, et il laissait la vie à ceux à qui il voulait. Il élevait ceux qu'il voulait, et abaissait ceux qu'il voulait.

 And for [4481] the majesty [7238] that he gave [3052] him, all [3606] people, [5972] nations, [0524] and languages, [3961] trembled [1934] [2112] and feared [1763] before [4481] [6925] him: whom he would [1934] [6634] he slew; [1934] [6992] and whom he would [1934] [6634] he kept [1934] alive; [2418] and whom he would [1934] [6634] he set [1934] up; [7313] and whom he would [1934] [6634] he put [1934] down.  Mais son cœur s'étant élevé et son esprit s'étant affermi dans l'orgueil, il fut précipité de son trône royal et dépouillé de sa gloire;

 Il fut chassé du milieu des enfants des hommes; son cœur fut rendu semblable à celui des bêtes, et son habitation fut avec les ânes sauvages; il fut nourri d'herbe comme les bœufs, et son corps fut trempé de la rosée du ciel, jusqu'à ce qu'il reconnût que le Dieu souverain domine sur le règne des hommes, et qu'il y établit qui il lui plaît.

 Mais tu t'es élevé contre le Seigneur des cieux, et on a apporté les vases de sa maison devant toi, et vous y avez bu du vin, toi et tes grands, tes femmes et tes concubines, et tu as loué les dieux d'argent, d'or, d'airain, de fer, de bois et de pierre, qui ne voient, ni n'entendent, ni ne connaissent, et tu n'as pas glorifié le Dieu qui a dans sa main ton souffle et toutes tes voies.

 Alors, sur l'ordre de Belshatsar, on revêtit Daniel de pourpre, on lui mit au cou un collier d'or, et on publia qu'il serait le troisième dans le gouvernement du royaume.

 Et les ministres et les satrapes cherchaient une occasion d'accuser Daniel, au sujet des affaires du royaume; mais ils ne purent trouver aucune occasion, ni aucun vice, car il était fidèle; et il ne se trouvait en lui ni faute ni vice.

 Maintenant, ô roi! confirme la défense, et mets-la par écrit, afin qu'il n'y soit rien changé, selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, qui est irrévocable.

 Alors ces hommes accoururent en tumulte, et trouvèrent Daniel priant et faisant des supplications à son Dieu.

 Puis ils s'approchèrent du roi, et lui dirent au sujet de la défense royale: N'as-tu pas rendu par écrit une défense, portant que tout homme qui adresserait une requête à quelque dieu ou à quelque homme pendant trente jours, excepté à toi, ô roi! serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions? Le roi répondit et dit: La chose est certaine, selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses, qui est irrévocable.

 Le roi, ayant entendu cela, en eut un grand déplaisir; il prit à cœur de délivrer Daniel, et jusqu'au coucher du soleil il travailla à le sauver.

 Alors le roi commanda qu'on amenât Daniel, et qu'on le jetât dans la fosse aux lions. Le roi prit la parole, et dit à Daniel: Puisse ton Dieu, que tu sers sans cesse, te délivrer lui-même!

 Then [0116] the king [4430] commanded, [0560] and they brought [0858] Daniel, [1841] and cast [7412] [him] into the den [1358] of lions.  Et on apporta une pierre qui fut mise sur l'ouverture de la fosse, et le roi la scella de son anneau et de l'anneau de ses grands, afin que rien ne fût changé à l'égard de Daniel.

 And a [2298] stone [0069] was brought, [0858] and laid [7761] upon [5922] the mouth [6433] of the den; [1358] and the king [4430] sealed [2857] it with his own signet, [5824] and with the signet [5824] of his lords; [7261] that the purpose [6640] might not [3809] be changed [8133] concerning Daniel.  Alors le roi rentra dans son palais, et il passa la nuit sans manger; il ne fit point venir de femmes auprès de lui, et il ne put point dormir.

 Then [0116] the king [4430] went [0236] to his palace, [1965] and passed the night [0956] fasting: [2908] neither [3809] were instruments [1761] of musick brought [5954] before [6925] him: and his sleep [8139] went [5075] from him. [5922]

 Et comme il approchait de la fosse, il appela Daniel d'une voix triste. Le roi prit la parole, et dit à Daniel: Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu, que tu sers sans cesse, a-t-il pu te délivrer des lions?

 And when he came [7127] to the den, [1358] he cried [2200] with a lamentable [6088] voice [7032] unto Daniel: [1841] [and] the king [4430] spake [6032] and said [0560] to Daniel, [1841] O Daniel, [1841] servant [5649] of the living [2417] God, [0426] is thy God, [0426] whom thou servest [6399] continually, [8411] able [3202] to deliver [7804] thee from [4481] the lions?  Alors Daniel dit au roi: Ô roi, vis éternellement!

 Then [0116] said [4449] Daniel [1841] unto [5974] the king, [4430] O king, [4430] live [2418] for ever. [5957]

 Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange, il a fermé la gueule des lions, et ils ne m'ont fait aucun mal, parce que j'ai été trouvé innocent devant lui; et devant toi aussi, ô roi, je n'ai commis aucun mal.

 My God [0426] hath sent [7972] his angel, [4398] and hath shut [5463] the lions' [0744] mouths, [6433] that they have not [3809] hurt [2255] me: forasmuch as [3606] [6903] before [6925] him innocency [2136] was found [7912] in me; and also [0638] before [6925] thee, O king, [4430] have I done [5648] no [3809] hurt.  Alors le roi fut extrêmement réjoui, et il commanda qu'on retirât Daniel de la fosse. Daniel fut retiré de la fosse, et on ne trouva sur lui aucune blessure, parce qu'il avait cru en son Dieu.

 Then [0116] was the king [4430] exceeding [7690] glad [2868] for him, [5922] and commanded [0560] that they should take Daniel [1841] up [5267] out of [4481] the den. [1358] So Daniel [1841] was taken up [5267] out of [4481] the den, [1358] and no [3809] manner [3606] of hurt [2257] was found [7912] upon him, because he believed [0540] in his God. [0426]

 Et sur l'ordre du roi, ces hommes qui avaient accusé Daniel furent amenés et jetés dans la fosse aux lions, eux, leurs enfants et leurs femmes; mais avant qu'ils eussent atteint le sol de la fosse, les lions les saisirent et brisèrent tous leurs os.

 And the king [4430] commanded, [0560] and they brought [0858] those [0479] men [1400] which had accused [0399] [7170] Daniel, [1841] and they cast [7412] [them] into the den [1358] of lions, [0744] them, [0581] their children, [1123] and their wives; [5389] and the lions [0744] had the mastery [7981] of them, and brake all [3606] their bones [1635] in pieces [1855] or [5705] ever [3809] they came [4291] at the bottom [0773] of the den.  Alors le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, nations et langues, qui habitent sur toute la terre: Que votre paix soit multipliée!

 De par moi il est ordonné que dans toute l'étendue de mon royaume on ait de la crainte et de la frayeur devant le Dieu de Daniel. Car c'est le Dieu vivant, et il demeure éternellement; son royaume ne sera point détruit, et sa domination durera jusqu'à la fin.

 Il sauve et il délivre; il fait des signes et des prodiges dans les cieux et sur la terre; c'est lui qui a délivré Daniel de la griffe des lions.

Elle avait de grandes dents de fer; elle mangeait, elle brisait et foulait aux pieds ce qui restait; elle était différente de toutes les bêtes qui l'avaient précédée, et elle avait dix cornes.

 Je considérais les cornes, et voici, une autre petite corne sortit du milieu d'elles, et trois des premières cornes furent arrachées devant elle. Et voici, cette corne avait des yeux comme des yeux d'homme, et une bouche qui proférait de grandes choses.

 Je regardai, jusqu'à ce que des trônes furent placés, et que l'ANCIEN DES JOURS s'assit. Son vêtement était blanc comme la neige, et les cheveux de sa tête étaient comme de la laine pure. Son trône était comme des flammes de feu; ses roues, comme un feu ardent.

 I beheld [1934] [2370] till [5705] the thrones [3764] were cast down, [7412] and the Ancient [6268] of days [3118] did sit, [3488] whose garment [3831] [was] white [2358] as snow, [8517] and the hair [8177] of his head [7217] like the pure [5343] wool: [6015] his throne [3764] [was like] the fiery [5135] flame, [7631] [and] his wheels [1535] [as] burning [1815] fire.  Un fleuve de feu sortait et se répandait de devant lui. Mille milliers le servaient, et dix mille millions se tenaient devant lui. Le jugement se tint, et les livres furent ouverts.

 Je regardai alors, à cause du bruit des paroles orgueilleuses que la corne proférait; je regardai jusqu'à ce que la bête fut tuée et que son corps périt, et qu'elle fut livrée au feu pour être brûlée.

 I beheld [1934] [2370] then [0116] because [4481] of the voice [7032] of the great [7260] words [4406] which the horn [7162] spake: [4449] I beheld [1934] [2370] [even] till [5705] the beast [2423] was slain, [6992] and his body [1655] destroyed, [0007] and given [3052] to the burning [3346] flame.  Quant aux autres bêtes, la domination leur fut aussi ôtée, quoiqu'une prolongation de vie leur eût été accordée jusqu'à un temps déterminé.

 As concerning the rest [7606] of the beasts, [2423] they had their dominion [7985] taken away: [5709] yet their lives [2417] were [3052] prolonged [0754] for [5705] a season [2166] and time. [5732]

 Je regardais, dans ces visions de la nuit, et je vis comme LE FILS DE L'HOMME qui venait sur les nuées des cieux, et il vint jusqu'à l'ANCIEN DES JOURS, et on le fit approcher de lui.

 I saw [1934] [2370] in the night [3916] visions, [2376] and, behold, [0718] [one] like the Son [1247] of man [0606] came [1934] [0858] with [5974] the clouds [6050] of heaven, [8065] and came [4291] to [5705] the Ancient [6268] of days, [3118] and they brought him near [7127] before [6925] him.

 Et on lui donna la domination, la gloire et le règne, et tous les peuples, nations et langues le servirent. Sa domination est une domination éternelle qui ne passera point, et son règne ne sera point détruit.

 And there was given [3052] him dominion, [7985] and glory, [3367] and a kingdom, [4437] that all [3606] people, [5972] nations, [0524] and languages, [3961] should serve [6399] him: his dominion [7985] [is] an everlasting [5957] dominion, [7985] which shall not [3809] pass away, [5709] and his kingdom [4437] [that] which shall not [3809] be destroyed.  Mon esprit à moi, Daniel, fut troublé au-dedans de moi, et les visions de ma tête m'effrayèrent.

 Je m'approchai de l'un des assistants, et je lui demandai la vérité sur toutes ces choses. Et il me parla et m'en donna l'interprétation.

 I came near [7127] unto [5922] one [2298] of [4481] them that stood by, [6966] and asked [1156] him [4481] the truth [3330] of [5922] all [3606] this. [1836] So he told [0560] me, and made me know [3046] the interpretation [6591] of the things. [4406]

 Ces quatre grandes bêtes sont quatre rois qui s'élèveront de la terre.

 These [0459] great [7260] beasts, [2423] which [0581] are four, [0703] [are] four [0703] kings, [4430] [which] shall arise [6966] out of [4481] the earth. [0772]

 Mais les saints du Souverain recevront le royaume éternellement, et jusqu'au siècle des siècles.

 But the saints [6922] of the most High [5946] shall take [6902] the kingdom, [4437] and possess [2631] the kingdom [4437] for [5705] ever, [5957] even for [5705] ever [5957] and ever. [5957]

 Alors je voulus savoir la vérité touchant la quatrième bête, qui était différente de toutes les autres et extraordinairement terrible, dont les dents étaient de fer et les ongles d'airain, qui mangeait, brisait et foulait aux pieds ce qui restait;

 Then [0116] I would [6634] know the truth [3321] of [5922] the fourth [7244] beast, [2423] which was [1934] diverse [8133] from [4481] all [3606] the others, exceeding [3493] dreadful, [1763] whose teeth [8128] [were of] iron, [6523] and his nails [2953] [of] brass; [5174] [which] devoured, [0399] brake in pieces, [1855] and stamped [7512] the residue [7606] with his feet; [7271]

 Et touchant les dix cornes qui étaient sur sa tête, et touchant l'autre corne qui était sortie et devant laquelle trois étaient tombées, cette corne qui avait des yeux et une bouche qui proférait de grandes choses, et qui avait une plus grande apparence que les autres.

 And of [5922] the ten [6236] horns [7162] that [were] in his head, [7217] and [of] the other [0317] which came up, [5559] and before [4481] [6925] whom three [8532] fell; [5308] even [of] that horn [7162] that [1797] had eyes, [5870] and a mouth [6433] that spake [4449] very great things, [7260] whose look [2376] [was] more stout [7229] than [4481] his fellows.  Je regardais comment cette corne faisait la guerre aux saints, et prévalait sur eux;

 I beheld, [1934] [2370] and the same [1797] horn [7162] made [5648] war [7129] with [5974] the saints, [6922] and prevailed [3202] against them;

 Jusqu'à ce que l'ANCIEN DES JOURS vint, et que le jugement fut donné aux saints du Souverain, et que le temps arriva où les saints entrèrent en possession du royaume.

 Until [5705] the Ancient [6268] of days [3118] came, [0858] [1768] and judgment [1780] was given [3052] to the saints [6922] of the most High; [5946] and the time [2166] came [4291] that the saints [6922] possessed [2631] the kingdom. [4437]

 Il me parla ainsi: La quatrième bête est un quatrième royaume qui existera sur la terre, qui sera différent de tous les royaumes, et qui dévorera toute la terre, et la foulera et la brisera. Les dix cornes, ce sont dix rois qui s'élèveront de ce royaume;

 Thus [3652] he said, [0560] The fourth [7244] beast [2423] shall be [1934] the fourth [7244] kingdom [4437] upon earth, [0772] which shall be diverse [8133] from [4481] all [3606] kingdoms, [4437] and shall devour [0399] the whole [3606] earth, [0772] and shall tread it down, [1759] and break it in pieces.  Et un autre s'élèvera après eux, qui sera différent des premiers et il abaissera trois rois.

 And the ten [6236] horns [7162] out of [4481] this kingdom [4437] [are] ten [6236] kings [4430] [that] shall arise: [6966] and another [0321] shall rise [6966] after them; [0311] and he shall be diverse [8133] from [4481] the first, [6933] and he shall subdue [8214] three [8532] kings. [4430]

 Il prononcera des paroles contre le Souverain, il opprimera les saints du Souverain, et pensera à changer les temps et la loi; et les saints seront livrés en sa main pendant un temps, des temps et la moitié d'un temps.

 And he shall speak [4449] [great] words [4406] against [6655] the most High, [5943] and shall wear out [1080] the saints [6922] of the most High, [5946] and think [5452] to change [8133] times [2166] and laws: [1882] and they shall be given [3052] into his hand [3028] until [5705] a time [5732] and times [5732] and the dividing [6387] of time.  Puis viendra le jugement, et on lui ôtera sa domination, pour la détruire et la faire périr jusqu'à la fin.

 But the judgment [1780] shall sit, [3488] and they shall take away [5709] his dominion, [7985] to consume [8046] and to destroy [0007] [it] unto [5705] the end. [5491]

 Et le règne, et la domination et la grandeur des royaumes qui sont sous tous les cieux, seront donnés au peuple des saints du Souverain. Son royaume est un royaume éternel, et toutes les dominations le serviront et lui obéiront.

 And the kingdom [4437] and dominion, [7985] and the greatness [7238] of the kingdom [4437] under [8460] the whole [3606] heaven, [8065] shall be given [3052] to the people [5972] of the saints [6922] of the most High, [5946] whose kingdom [4437] [is] an everlasting [5957] kingdom, [4437] and all [3606] dominions [7985] shall serve [6399] and obey [8086] him.

 C'est ici la fin de cette parole. Quant à moi, Daniel, mes pensées me troublèrent fort, je changeai d'attitude, et je conservai ces paroles dans mon cœur.

 Hitherto [5705] [3542] [is] the end [5491] of the matter. [4406] As for me [0576] Daniel, [1841] my cogitations [7476] much [7690] troubled [0927] me, and my countenance [2122] changed [8133] in me: [5922] but I kept [5202] the matter [4406] in my heart. [3821]

 J'eus une vision, et il arriva, comme je regardais, que j'étais à Suse, la capitale, dans la province d'Élam, et dans ma vision, je me trouvais près du fleuve Ulaï.

 And I saw [7200] in a vision; [2377] and it came to pass, when I saw, [7200] that I [was] at Shushan [7800] [in] the palace, [1002] which [is] in the province [4082] of Elam; [5867] and I saw [7200] in a vision, [2377] and I was by the river [0180] of Ulai. [0195]

 Je levai les yeux, je regardai, et voici, un bélier se tenait devant le fleuve; et il avait deux cornes, et ces deux cornes étaient hautes, mais l'une était plus haute que l'autre, et la plus haute s'éleva la dernière.

 Then I lifted up [5375] mine eyes, [5869] and saw, [7200] and, behold, there stood [5975] before [6440] the river [0180] a [0259] ram [0352] which had [two] horns: [7161] and the [two] horns [7161] [were] high; [1364] but one [0259] [was] higher [1364] than the other, [8145] and the higher [1364] came up [5927] last.  Et je vis le bélier qui frappait de ses cornes vers l'occident, vers le nord et vers le midi; et aucune bête ne pouvait subsister devant lui, et il n'y avait personne qui délivrât de sa puissance; mais il faisait tout ce qu'il voulait, et il devint grand.

 I saw [7200] the ram [0352] pushing [5055] westward, [3220] and northward, [6828] and southward; [5045] so that no beasts [2416] might stand [5975] before [6440] him, neither [was there any] that could deliver [5337] out of his hand; [3027] but he did [6213] according to his will, [7522] and became great.  Et comme je regardais attentivement, voici, un bouc venait de l'occident, parcourant toute la terre sans toucher le sol; ce bouc avait une corne considérable entre les yeux.

 And as I was considering, [0995] behold, an he goat [5795] [6842] came [0935] from the west [4628] on the face [6440] of the whole earth, [0776] and touched [5060] not the ground: [0776] and the goat [6842] [had] a notable [2380] horn [7161] between his eyes. [5869]

 Il vint jusqu'au bélier qui avait les deux cornes, et que j'avais vu se tenant devant le fleuve; et il courut contre lui dans la fureur de sa force.

 And he came [0935] to the ram [0352] that had [1167] [two] horns, [7161] which I had seen [7200] standing [5975] before [6440] the river, [0180] and ran [7323] unto him in the fury [2534] of his power. [3581]

 Et je le vis atteindre le bélier; et, s'irritant contre lui, il le heurta et brisa ses deux cornes; et le bélier n'avait pas la force de lui résister; il le jeta à terre et le foula aux pieds, et il n'y eut personne qui délivrât le bélier de sa puissance.

 And I saw [7200] him come [5060] close unto [0681] the ram, [0352] and he was moved with choler [4843] against him, and smote [5221] the ram, [0352] and brake [7665] his two [8147] horns: [7161] and there was no power [3581] in the ram [0352] to stand [5975] before [6440] him, but he cast him down [7993] to the ground, [0776] and stamped [7429] upon him: and there was none that could deliver [5337] the ram [0352] out of his hand.  Et le bouc grandit extrêmement; mais quand il fut puissant, sa grande corne se brisa, et à sa place, il en surgit quatre considérables, vers les quatre vents des cieux.

 Therefore the he [6842] goat [5795] waxed very [3966] great: [1431] and when he was strong, [6105] the great [1419] horn [7161] was broken; [7665] and for it came up [5927] four [0702] notable ones [2380] toward the four [0702] winds [7307] of heaven. [8064]

 Et de l'une d'elles surgit une petite corne qui s'agrandit beaucoup vers le midi, et vers l'orient, et vers le pays de gloire.

 And out of one [0259] of them came forth [3318] a little [4704] horn, [7161] which waxed exceeding [3499] great, [1431] toward the south, [5045] and toward the east, [4217] and toward the pleasant [6643] [land].

 Et elle grandit jusqu'à l'armée des cieux, et elle fit tomber à terre une partie de l'armée des étoiles, et les foula aux pieds.

 And it waxed great, [1431] [even] to the host [6635] of heaven; [8064] and it cast down [5307] [some] of the host [6635] and of the stars [3556] to the ground, [0776] and stamped [7429] upon them.

 Elle s'éleva même jusqu'au chef de l'armée, lui enleva le sacrifice continuel et abattit la demeure de son sanctuaire.

 Yea, he magnified [1431] [himself] even to the prince [8269] of the host, [6635] and by him the daily [8548] [sacrifice] was taken away, [7311] and the place [4349] of his sanctuary [4720] was cast down. [7993]

 Et l'armée fut livrée avec le sacrifice continuel, à cause du péché, et la corne jeta la vérité par terre, et elle agit et prospéra.

 And an host [6635] was given [5414] [him] against the daily [8548] [sacrifice] by reason of transgression, [6588] and it cast down [7993] the truth [0571] to the ground; [0776] and it practised, [6213] and prospered. [6743]

 Et j'entendis parler un saint, et un autre saint dit à celui qui parlait: Jusqu'à quand durera la vision du sacrifice continuel et du péché qui cause la désolation, qui livre le sanctuaire et l'armée pour être foulés aux pieds?

 Then I heard [8085] one [0259] saint [6918] speaking, [1696] and another [0259] saint [6918] said [0559] unto that certain [6422] [saint] which spake, [1696] How long [shall be] the vision [2377] [concerning] the daily [8548] [sacrifice], and the transgression [6588] of desolation, [8074] to give [5414] both the sanctuary [6944] and the host [6635] to be trodden under foot? [4823]

 Et il me dit: Jusqu'à deux mille trois cents soirs et matins; puis le sanctuaire sera purifié.

 And he said [0559] unto me, Unto two thousand [0505] and three [7969] hundred [3967] days; [6153] [1242] then shall the sanctuary [6944] be cleansed. [6663]

 Pendant que moi, Daniel, je regardais la vision et que je cherchais à la comprendre, voici, quelqu'un qui avait l'apparence d'un homme se tint devant moi.

 And it came to pass, when I, [even] I Daniel, [1840] had seen [7200] the vision, [2377] and sought [1245] for the meaning, [0998] then, behold, there stood [5975] before me as the appearance [4758] of a man. [1397]

 Et j'entendis la voix d'un homme au milieu du fleuve Ulaï; il cria et dit: Gabriel, explique-lui la vision.

 And I heard [8085] a man's [0120] voice [6963] between [the banks of] Ulai, [0195] which called, [7121] and said, [0559] Gabriel, [1403] make this [1975] [man] to understand [0995] the vision. [4758]

 Et il vint près du lieu où je me tenais, et, à sa venue, je fus épouvanté et je tombai sur ma face, et il me dit: Comprends, fils de l'homme, car la vision est pour le temps de la fin.

 So he came [0935] near [0681] where I stood: [5977] and when he came, [0935] I was afraid, [1204] and fell [5307] upon my face: [6440] but he said [0559] unto me, Understand, [0995] O son [1121] of man: [0120] for at the time [6256] of the end [7093] [shall be] the vision. [2377]

 Et comme il me parlait, je m'assoupis la face contre terre; mais il me toucha et me fit tenir debout à la place où j'étais.

 Now as he was speaking [1696] with me, I was in a deep sleep [7290] on my face [6440] toward the ground: [0776] but he touched [5060] me, and set [5975] me upright. [5977]

 Et il dit: Voici, je vais t'apprendre ce qui arrivera au dernier temps de la colère, car il y a un temps marqué pour la fin.

 And he said, [0559] Behold, I will make thee know [3045] what shall be in the last end [0319] of the indignation: [2195] for at the time appointed [4150] the end [7093] [shall be].

 Le bélier que tu as vu, qui avait deux cornes, ce sont les rois des Mèdes et des Perses;

 The ram [0352] which thou sawest [7200] having [1167] [two] horns [7161] [are] the kings [4428] of Media [4074] and Persia. [6539]

 Et le bouc velu, c'est le roi de Javan; et la grande corne entre ses yeux, c'est le premier roi.

 And the rough [8163] goat [6842] [is] the king [4428] of Grecia: [3120] and the great [1419] horn [7161] that [is] between his eyes [5869] [is] the first [7223] king. [4428]

 Et cette corne s'étant brisée, les quatre cornes qui se sont élevées à sa place sont quatre rois qui s'élèveront de cette nation, mais ils n'auront pas sa force.

 Now that being broken, [7665] whereas four [0702] stood up [5975] for it, four [0702] kingdoms [4438] shall stand up [5975] out of the nation, [1471] but not in his power. [3581]

 Et à la fin de leur règne, quand les pécheurs auront comblé la mesure, il s'élèvera un roi au visage audacieux et habile en prétentions.

 And in the latter time [0319] of their kingdom, [4438] when the transgressors [6586] are come to the full, [8552] a king [4428] of fierce [5794] countenance, [6440] and understanding [0995] dark sentences, [2420] shall stand up. [5975]

 Sa puissance s'accroîtra, mais non pas par sa propre force. Il fera des ravages extraordinaires; il réussira dans ses entreprises, il détruira les puissants et le peuple des saints.

 And his power [3581] shall be mighty, [6105] but not by his own power: [3581] and he shall destroy [7843] wonderfully, [6381] and shall prosper, [6743] and practise, [6213] and shall destroy [7843] the mighty [6099] and the holy [6918] people. [5971]

 Et par son habileté, il fera réussir la fraude dans sa main. Il s'enorgueillira dans son cœur, et à l'improviste il fera périr beaucoup de gens; il s'élèvera contre le Prince des princes; mais il sera brisé sans le secours d'aucune main.

 And through his policy [7922] also he shall cause craft [4820] to prosper [6743] in his hand; [3027] and he shall magnify [1431] [himself] in his heart, [3824] and by peace [7962] shall destroy [7843] many: [7227] he shall also stand up [5975] against the Prince [8269] of princes; [8269] but he shall be broken [7665] without [0657] hand. [3027]

 La vision des soirs et des matins, qui a été dite, est véritable. Mais toi, scelle la vision, car elle se rapporte à un temps éloigné.

 And the vision [4758] of the evening [6153] and the morning [1242] which was told [0559] [is] true: [0571] wherefore shut thou up [5640] the vision; [2377] for it [shall be] for many [7227] days. [3117]

 Et moi, Daniel, je tombai en défaillance et fus malade pendant quelques jours; puis je me levai et fis les affaires du roi. J'étais étonné de la vision, mais personne ne la comprit.

 And I Daniel [1840] fainted, [1961] and was sick [2470] [certain] days; [3117] afterward I rose up, [6965] and did [6213] the king's [4428] business; [4399] and I was astonished [8074] at the vision, [4758] but none understood [0995] [it].

 In the first [0259] year [8141] of his reign [4427] I Daniel [1840] understood [0995] by books [5612] the number [4557] of the years, [8141] whereof the word [1697] of the LORD [3068] came to Jeremiah [3414] the prophet, [5030] that he would accomplish [4390] seventy [7657] years [8141] in the desolations [2723] of Jerusalem.  Je tournai ma face vers le Seigneur Dieu, pour lui présenter des requêtes et des supplications, avec jeûne, et en prenant le sac et la cendre.

 Et je priai YEHOVAH mon Dieu, je lui fis ma confession, et je dis: Ah! Seigneur, Dieu grand et redoutable, qui gardes l'alliance et la miséricorde à ceux qui t'aiment et qui observent tes commandements!

 And I prayed [6419] unto the LORD [3068] my God, [0430] and made my confession, [3034] and said, [0559] O [0577] Lord, [0136] the great [1419] and dreadful [3372] God, [0410] keeping [8104] the covenant [1285] and mercy [2617] to them that love [0157] him, and to them that keep [8104] his commandments; [4687]

 Nous avons péché, nous avons commis l'iniquité, nous avons agi méchamment, nous avons été rebelles et nous nous sommes détournés de tes commandements et de tes ordonnances.

 We have sinned, [2398] and have committed iniquity, [5753] and have done wickedly, [7561] and have rebelled, [4775] even by departing [5493] from thy precepts [4687] and from thy judgments: [4941]

 Et nous n'avons pas écouté tes serviteurs les prophètes, qui ont parlé en ton nom à nos rois, à nos chefs, à nos pères et à tout le peuple du pays.

 À toi, Seigneur, est la justice et à nous la confusion de face, comme elle est aujourd'hui aux hommes de Juda, aux habitants de Jérusalem et à tout Israël, à ceux qui sont près et à ceux qui sont loin, dans tous les pays où tu les as chassés, à cause des iniquités qu'ils ont commises contre toi.

 O Lord, [0136] righteousness [6666] [belongeth] unto thee, but unto us confusion [1322] of faces, [6440] as at this day; [3117] to the men [0376] of Judah, [3063] and to the inhabitants [3427] of Jerusalem, [3389] and unto all Israel, [3478] [that are] near, [7138] and [that are] far off, [7350] through all the countries [0776] whither thou hast driven [5080] them, because of their trespass [4604] that they have trespassed [4603] against thee.

 Seigneur, à nous la confusion de face, à nos rois, à nos chefs et à nos pères, parce que nous avons péché contre toi.

 O Lord, [0136] to us [belongeth] confusion [1322] of face, [6440] to our kings, [4428] to our princes, [8269] and to our fathers, [0001] because we have sinned [2398] against thee.

 Les compassions et les pardons sont au Seigneur notre Dieu, car nous nous sommes rebellés contre lui.

 To the Lord [0136] our God [0430] [belong] mercies [7356] and forgivenesses, [5547] though we have rebelled [4775] against him;

 Nous n'avons point écouté la voix de YEHOVAH notre Dieu pour marcher suivant ses lois, qu'il avait mises devant nous par le moyen de ses serviteurs les prophètes.

 Neither have we obeyed [8085] the voice [6963] of the LORD [3068] our God, [0430] to walk [3212] in his laws, [8451] which he set [5414] before [6440] us by [3027] his servants [5650] the prophets. [5030]

 Tout Israël a transgressé ta loi et s'est détourné pour ne point écouter ta voix. Et la malédiction et les serments, qui sont écrits dans la loi de Moïse, serviteur de Dieu, ont fondu sur nous, parce que nous avons péché contre lui.

 Yea, all Israel [3478] have transgressed [5674] thy law, [8451] even by departing, [5493] that they might not obey [8085] thy voice; [6963] therefore the curse [0423] is poured [5413] upon us, and the oath [7621] that [is] written [3789] in the law [8451] of Moses [4872] the servant [5650] of God, [0430] because we have sinned [2398] against him.

 Il a accompli les paroles qu'il avait prononcées contre nous et contre les chefs qui nous ont gouvernés; il a fait venir sur nous un grand mal, tel qu'il n'en est point arrivé sous les cieux, de semblable à celui qui est arrivé à Jérusalem.

 And he hath confirmed [6965] his words, [1697] which he spake [1696] against us, and against our judges [8199] that judged [8199] us, by bringing [0935] upon us a great [1419] evil: [7451] for under the whole heaven [8064] hath not been done [6213] as hath been done [6213] upon Jerusalem. [3389]

 Selon ce qui est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, tout ce mal est venu sur nous; et nous n'avons pas supplié YEHOVAH notre Dieu, pour nous détourner de nos iniquités et nous rendre attentifs à ta vérité.

 As [it is] written [3789] in the law [8451] of Moses, [4872] all this evil [7451] is come [0935] upon us: yet made we not our prayer [2470] before [6440] the LORD [3068] our God, [0430] that we might turn [7725] from our iniquities, [5771] and understand [7919] thy truth. [0571]

 Et YEHOVAH a veillé sur le mal, et l'a fait venir sur nous, car YEHOVAH notre Dieu est juste dans toutes les œuvres qu'il a faites, mais nous n'avons point écouté sa voix.

 Therefore hath the LORD [3068] watched [8245] upon the evil, [7451] and brought [0935] it upon us: for the LORD [3068] our God [0430] [is] righteous [6662] in all his works [4639] which he doeth: [6213] for we obeyed [8085] not his voice. [6963]

 Et maintenant, Seigneur notre Dieu, qui as tiré ton peuple du pays d'Égypte par ta main puissante, et qui t'es acquis un nom tel qu'il est aujourd'hui, nous avons péché, nous avons agi méchamment!

 And now, O Lord [0136] our God, [0430] that hast brought thy people [5971] forth [3318] out of the land [0776] of Egypt [4714] with a mighty [2389] hand, [3027] and hast gotten [6213] thee renown, [8034] as at this day; [3117] we have sinned, [2398] we have done wickedly. [7561]

 Seigneur, que selon toutes tes justices, ta colère et ton indignation se détournent de ta ville de Jérusalem, de ta montagne sainte; car, à cause de nos péchés et à cause des iniquités de nos pères, Jérusalem et ton peuple sont en opprobre à tous ceux qui nous entourent.

 O Lord, [0136] according to all thy righteousness, [6666] I beseech thee, let thine anger [0639] and thy fury [2534] be turned away [7725] from thy city [5892] Jerusalem, [3389] thy holy [6944] mountain: [2022] because for our sins, [2399] and for the iniquities [5771] of our fathers, [0001] Jerusalem [3389] and thy people [5971] [are become] a reproach [2781] to all [that are] about [5439] us.

 Et maintenant écoute, ô notre Dieu! la requête de ton serviteur et ses supplications; et pour l'amour du Seigneur, fais luire ta face sur ton sanctuaire désolé.

 Now therefore, O our God, [0430] hear [8085] the prayer [8605] of thy servant, [5650] and his supplications, [8469] and cause thy face [6440] to shine [0215] upon thy sanctuary [4720] that is desolate, [8076] for the Lord's [0136] sake.

 Mon Dieu! prête l'oreille, et écoute; ouvre les yeux et regarde nos désolations, et la ville sur laquelle ton nom est invoqué; car ce n'est pas à cause de nos justices que nous présentons nos supplications devant ta face, mais à cause de tes grandes compassions.

 O my God, [0430] incline [5186] thine ear, [0241] and hear; [8085] open [6491] thine eyes, [5869] and behold [7200] our desolations, [8074] and the city [5892] which is called [7121] by thy name: [8034] for we do not present [5307] our supplications [8469] before [6440] thee for our righteousnesses, [6666] but for thy great [7227] mercies.  Je parlais encore dans ma prière, quand ce puissant vigilant, Gabriel (la force de Dieu), que j'avais vu en vision auparavant, vint à moi d'un vol rapide, vers le temps de l'oblation du soir.

 Yea, whiles I [was] speaking [1696] in prayer, [8605] even the man [0376] Gabriel, [1403] whom I had seen [7200] in the vision [2377] at the beginning, [8462] being caused to fly [3286] swiftly, [3288] touched [5060] me about the time [6256] of the evening [6153] oblation. [4503]

 Et il m'instruisit, me parla et me dit: Maintenant JE SUIS venu pour te rendre sage et intelligent.

 And he informed [0995] [me], and talked [1696] with me, and said, [0559] O Daniel, [1840] I am now come forth [3318] to give thee skill [7919] and understanding. [0998]

 Daniel! lorsque tu commençais à prier, la parole est sortie et JE SUIS venu te l'annoncer, parce que tu es un bien-aimé; fais donc attention à la parole, et comprends la vision.

 At the beginning [8462] of thy supplications [8469] the commandment [1697] came forth, [3318] and I am come [0935] to shew [5046] [thee]; for thou [art] greatly beloved: [2532] therefore understand [0995] the matter, [1697] and consider [0995] the vision. [4758]

 Soixante-dix semaines sont déterminées sur ton peuple et sur ta ville sainte, pour mettre fin à la transgression, pour enfermer les péchés, pour expier l'iniquité, pour amener la justice éternelle, pour sceller la vision et le prophète, et pour oindre le Saint des saints.

 Seventy [7657] weeks [7620] are determined [2852] upon thy people [5971] and upon thy holy [6944] city, [5892] to finish [3607] the transgression, [6588] and to make an end [8552] of sins, [2403] and to make reconciliation [3722] for iniquity, [5771] and to bring in [0935] everlasting [5769] righteousness, [6664] and to seal up [2856] the vision [2377] and prophecy, [5030] and to anoint [4886] the most [6944] Holy.  Sache-le donc et comprends: depuis l'émission de la parole ordonnant de retourner et de rebâtir Jérusalem, jusqu'au Christ, le Conducteur, il y a sept semaines et soixante-deux semaines: les places et les fossés seront rétablis, mais en un temps fâcheux.

 Know [3045] therefore and understand, [7919] [that] from the going forth [4161] of the commandment [1697] to restore [7725] and to build [1129] Jerusalem [3389] unto the Messiah [4899] the Prince [5057] [shall be] seven [7651] weeks, [7620] and threescore [8346] and two [8147] weeks: [7620] the street [7339] shall be built [1129] again, [7725] and the wall, [2742] even in troublous [6695] times.  Et après les soixante-deux semaines, le Christ sera retranché dans la soixante-dixième semaine, et non pour lui. Et le peuple d'un conducteur qui viendra, détruira la ville et le sanctuaire, et sa fin sera dans ce débordement; les désolations sont déterminées jusqu'au terme de la guerre.

 And after [0310] threescore [8346] and two [8147] weeks [7620] shall Messiah [4899] be cut off, [3772] but not for himself: and the people [5971] of the prince [5057] that shall come [0935] shall destroy [7843] the city [5892] and the sanctuary; [6944] and the end [7093] thereof [shall be] with a flood, [7858] and unto the end [7093] of the war [4421] desolations [8074] are determined.  Le Christ confirmera l'alliance en son sang avec plusieurs pendant une semaine; et à la moitié de la soixante-dixième semaine, il fera cesser le sacrifice et l'offrande par le sien; et pour le comble de l'étendue de leurs abominations, il causera la désolation, même jusqu'à l'anéantissement; et ceci déterminé, sera répandu sur les destitués.

 And he shall confirm [1396] the covenant [1285] with many [7227] for one [0259] week: [7620] and in the midst [2677] of the week [7620] he shall cause the sacrifice [2077] and the oblation [4503] to cease, [7673] and for the overspreading [3671] of abominations [8251] he shall make [it] desolate, [8074] even until the consummation, [3617] and that determined [2782] shall be poured [5413] upon the desolate.  La troisième année de Cyrus, roi de Perse, une parole fut révélée à Daniel, qu'on nommait Beltshatsar; et cette parole est véritable et annonce un grand combat. Et il comprit la parole, et il eut l'intelligence de la vision.

 In the third [7969] year [8141] of Cyrus [3566] king [4428] of Persia [6539] a thing [1697] was revealed [1540] unto Daniel, [1840] whose name [8034] was called [7121] Belteshazzar; [1095] and the thing [1697] [was] true, [0571] but the time appointed [6635] [was] long: [1419] and he understood [0995] the thing, [1697] and had understanding [0998] of the vision.  Et je levai les yeux et je regardai; et voici, je vis un homme vêtu de lin, et dont les reins étaient ceints d'une ceinture d'or fin d'Uphaz.

 Then I lifted up [5375] mine eyes, [5869] and looked, [7200] and behold a certain [0259] man [0376] clothed [3847] in linen, [0906] whose loins [4975] [were] girded [2296] with fine gold [3800] of Uphaz: [0210]

 Son corps était comme de chrysolithe, son visage brillait comme un éclair, ses yeux comme des lampes allumées, ses bras et ses pieds paraissaient comme de l'airain poli, et le bruit de ses paroles était comme le bruit d'une multitude.

 His body [1472] also [was] like the beryl, [8658] and his face [6440] as the appearance [4758] of lightning, [1300] and his eyes [5869] as lamps [3940] of fire, [0784] and his arms [2220] and his feet [4772] like in colour [5869] to polished [7044] brass, [5178] and the voice [6963] of his words [1697] like the voice [6963] of a multitude.  Et moi, Daniel, je vis seul la vision, et les hommes qui étaient avec moi ne la virent point; mais une grande frayeur tomba sur eux, et ils s'enfuirent pour se cacher.

 And I Daniel [1840] alone saw [7200] the vision: [4759] for the men [0582] that were with me saw [7200] not the vision; [4759] but [0061] a great [1419] quaking [2731] fell [5307] upon them, so that they fled [1272] to hide [2244] themselves.

 Je restai seul, et je vis cette grande vision, et il ne me resta plus de force. Mon visage changea d'attitude et fut tout défait, et je ne conservai aucune force.

 Therefore I was left [7604] alone, and saw [7200] this great [1419] vision, [4759] and there remained [7604] no strength [3581] in me: for my comeliness [1935] was turned [2015] in me into corruption, [4889] and I retained [6113] no strength. [3581]

 Et j'entendis la voix de ses paroles, et quand je l'eus entendue, je tombai assoupi et la face contre terre.

 Yet heard [8085] I the voice [6963] of his words: [1697] and when I heard [8085] the voice [6963] of his words, [1697] then was I in a deep sleep [7290] on my face, [6440] and my face [6440] toward the ground. [0776]

 Et voici, une main me toucha et me fit mettre sur mes genoux et sur les paumes de mes mains.

 And, behold, an hand [3027] touched [5060] me, which set [5128] me upon my knees [1290] and [upon] the palms [3709] of my hands. [3027]

 Puis il me dit: Daniel, homme bien-aimé, fais attention aux paroles que je te dis, et tiens-toi debout à la place où tu es, car je suis maintenant envoyé vers toi. Et quand il m'eut dit ces paroles, je me tins debout en tremblant.

 And he said [0559] unto me, O Daniel, [1840] a man [0376] greatly beloved, [2532] understand [0995] the words [1697] that I speak [1696] unto thee, and stand [5975] upright: [5977] for unto thee am I now sent. [7971] And when he had spoken [1696] this word [1697] unto me, I stood [5975] trembling. [7460]

 Et il me dit: Ne crains point, Daniel; car dès le jour où tu as pris à cœur de comprendre et de t'humilier devant ton Dieu, tes paroles ont été exaucées, et c'est à cause de tes paroles que je suis venu.

 Then said [0559] he unto me, Fear [3372] not, Daniel: [1840] for from the first [7223] day [3117] that thou didst set [5414] thine heart [3820] to understand, [0995] and to chasten [6031] thyself before [6440] thy God, [0430] thy words [1697] were heard, [8085] and I am come [0935] for thy words.  Mais moi, Daniel, le chef du royaume de Perse m'a résisté vingt et un jours; et voici, Michaël (la présence de Dieu), le Maître des principaux ministres, est venu à mon aide, et je suis demeuré là auprès des rois de Perse.

 But the prince [8269] of the kingdom [4438] of Persia [6539] withstood [5975] me one [0259] and twenty [6242] days: [3117] but, lo, Michael, [4317] one [0259] of the chief [7223] princes, [8269] came [0935] to help [5826] me; and I remained [3498] there with [0681] the kings [4428] of Persia.  Et je viens maintenant pour te faire entendre ce qui doit arriver à ton peuple dans les derniers jours; car la vision s'étend jusqu'à ces jours-là.

 Now I am come [0935] to make thee understand [0995] what shall befall [7136] thy people [5971] in the latter [0319] days: [3117] for yet the vision [2377] [is] for [many] days. [3117]

 Pendant qu'il m'adressait ces paroles, je tenais mon visage contre terre, et je restais muet.

 And when he had spoken [1696] such words [1697] unto me, I set [5414] my face [6440] toward the ground, [0776] and I became dumb. [0481]

 Et voici, quelqu'un ayant la ressemblance d'un homme toucha mes lèvres. Alors j'ouvris la bouche, je parlai et je dis à celui qui se tenait devant moi: Mon seigneur, par la vision l'angoisse m'a saisi, et je n'ai conservé aucune force.

 And, behold, [one] like the similitude [1823] of the sons [1121] of men [0120] touched [5060] my lips: [8193] then I opened [6605] my mouth, [6310] and spake, [1696] and said [0559] unto him that stood [5975] before me, O my lord, [0113] by the vision [4759] my sorrows [6735] are turned [2015] upon me, and I have retained [6113] no strength.  Et comment le serviteur de mon seigneur pourrait-il parler avec mon seigneur? Maintenant il n'y a plus en moi aucune force, et il ne me reste plus de souffle!

 For how [1963] can [3201] the servant [5650] of this my lord [0113] talk [1696] with this my lord? [0113] for as for me, straightway [6258] there remained [5975] no strength [3581] in me, neither is there breath [5397] left [7604] in me.

 Alors celui qui avait l'apparence d'un homme me toucha de nouveau et me fortifia.

 Then there came again [3254] and touched [5060] me [one] like the appearance [4758] of a man, [0120] and he strengthened [2388] me,

 Et il me dit: Ne crains point, homme bien-aimé; que la paix soit avec toi! Prends courage, prends courage! Et, comme il me parlait, je repris courage, et je dis: Que mon seigneur parle, car tu m'as fortifié.

 And said, [0559] O man [0376] greatly beloved, [2532] fear [3372] not: peace [7965] [be] unto thee, be strong, [2388] yea, be strong. [2388] And when he had spoken [1696] unto me, I was strengthened, [2388] and said, [0559] Let my lord [0113] speak; [1696] for thou hast strengthened [2388] me.

 Et il me dit: Sais-tu pourquoi je suis venu vers toi? Et maintenant je m'en retourne pour combattre le chef de Perse; et quand je serai parti, voici, le chef de Javan viendra.

 Then said [0559] he, Knowest [3045] thou wherefore I come [0935] unto thee? and now will I return [7725] to fight [3898] with the prince [8269] of Persia: [6539] and when I am gone forth, [3318] lo, the prince [8269] of Grecia [3120] shall come. [0935]

 Mais je t'annoncerai ce qui est écrit dans le livre de vérité. Et il n'y a personne qui me soutienne contre ceux-là, sinon Michaël, votre chef.

 But [0061] I will shew [5046] thee that which is noted [7559] in the scripture [3791] of truth: [0571] and [there is] none [0259] that holdeth [2388] with me in these things, but Michael [4317] your prince. [8269]

 Maintenant je t'annoncerai la vérité: Voici, il y aura encore trois rois en Perse; puis le quatrième possédera de plus grandes richesses que tous les autres; et quand il sera devenu fort par ses richesses, il soulèvera tout contre le royaume de Javan.

 And now will I shew [5046] thee the truth. [0571] Behold, there shall stand up [5975] yet three [7969] kings [4428] in Persia; [6539] and the fourth [7243] shall be far [6239] [1419] richer [6238] than [they] all: and by his strength [2394] through his riches [6239] he shall stir up [5782] all against the realm [4438] of Grecia.  Mais il s'élèvera un roi vaillant, qui dominera avec une grande puissance, et fera ce qu'il voudra.

 And a mighty [1368] king [4428] shall stand up, [5975] that shall rule [4910] with great [7227] dominion, [4474] and do [6213] according to his will. [7522]

 Et dès qu'il se sera élevé, son royaume se brisera et sera divisé vers les quatre vents des cieux, mais il ne passera point à sa postérité, et n'aura pas la même puissance qu'il a exercée; car son royaume sera déchiré et donné à d'autres qu'à ceux-là.

 And when he shall stand up, [5975] his kingdom [4438] shall be broken, [7665] and shall be divided [2673] toward the four [0702] winds [7307] of heaven; [8064] and not to his posterity, [0319] nor according to his dominion [4915] which he ruled: [4910] for his kingdom [4438] shall be plucked up, [5428] even for others [0312] beside those.

 Et le roi du midi deviendra fort, mais l'un de ses chefs deviendra plus fort que lui et dominera, et sa domination sera une grande domination.

 And the king [4428] of the south [5045] shall be strong, [2388] and [one] of his princes; [8269] and he shall be strong [2388] above him, and have dominion; [4910] his dominion [4475] [shall be] a great [7227] dominion. [4474]

 Et au bout de quelques années ils s'allieront, et la fille du roi du midi viendra vers le roi du nord pour rétablir l'accord. Mais elle ne conservera pas la force du bras, et son bras ne subsistera point; et elle sera livrée, elle et ceux qui l'auront amenée, avec son père et celui qui l'aura soutenue dans ces temps-là.

 And in the end [7093] of years [8141] they shall join themselves together; [2266] for the king's [4428] daughter [1323] of the south [5045] shall come [0935] to the king [4428] of the north [6828] to make [6213] an agreement: [4339] but she shall not retain [6113] the power [3581] of the arm; [2220] neither shall he stand, [5975] nor his arm: [2220] but she shall be given up, [5414] and they that brought [0935] her, and he that begat [3205] her, and he that strengthened

 Mais un rejeton de ses racines s'élèvera pour le remplacer. Il viendra à l'armée, il entrera dans les forteresses du roi du nord, il agira contre eux, et il sera puissant.

 But out of a branch [5342] of her roots [8328] shall [one] stand up [5975] in his estate, [3653] which shall come [0935] with an army, [2428] and shall enter [0935] into the fortress [4581] of the king [4428] of the north, [6828] and shall deal [6213] against them, and shall prevail: [2388]

 Et même il transportera en Égypte leurs dieux, avec leurs images de fonte et avec leurs vases précieux d'or et d'argent; puis il se tiendra pendant quelques années éloigné du roi du nord.

 And shall also carry [0935] captives [7628] into Egypt [4714] their gods, [0430] with their princes, [5257] [and] with their precious [2532] vessels [3627] of silver [3701] and of gold; [2091] and he shall continue [5975] [more] years [8141] than the king [4428] of the north. [6828]

 Celui-ci marchera contre le royaume du midi, et il retournera dans son pays.

 So the king [4428] of the south [5045] shall come [0935] into [his] kingdom, [4438] and shall return [7725] into his own land. [0127]

 Mais ses fils entreront en guerre et rassembleront une grande multitude de troupes; l'un d'eux s'avancera et se répandra comme un torrent; il passera et reviendra, et il portera la guerre jusqu'à la forteresse du roi du midi.

 But his sons [1121] shall be stirred up, [1624] and shall assemble [0622] a multitude [1995] of great [7227] forces: [2428] and [one] shall certainly [0935] come, [0935] and overflow, [7857] and pass through: [5674] then shall he return, [7725] and be stirred up, [1624] [even] to his fortress.  Et le roi du midi sera irrité; il sortira et combattra contre lui, contre le roi du nord. Et celui-ci mettra sur pied une grande multitude, mais la multitude sera livrée en sa main.

 And the king [4428] of the south [5045] shall be moved with choler, [4843] and shall come forth [3318] and fight [3898] with him, [even] with the king [4428] of the north: [6828] and he shall set forth [5975] a great [7227] multitude; [1995] but the multitude [1995] shall be given [5414] into his hand.  Cette multitude s'enorgueillira, et le cœur du roi s'élèvera; il fera tomber des milliers, mais il n'en sera pas fortifié.

 [And] when he hath taken away [5375] the multitude, [1995] his heart [3824] shall be lifted up; [7311] and he shall cast down [5307] [many] ten thousands: [7239] but he shall not be strengthened [5810] [by it].

 Car le roi du nord reviendra et rassemblera une multitude plus nombreuse; et au bout de quelque temps, de quelques années, il viendra avec une grande armée et un grand appareil.

 For the king [4428] of the north [6828] shall return, [7725] and shall set forth [5975] a multitude [1995] greater [7227] than the former, [7223] and shall certainly [0935] come [0935] after [7093] certain [6256] years [8141] with a great [1419] army [2428] and with much [7227] riches. [7399]

 En ce temps-là, plusieurs s'élèveront contre le roi du midi, et des hommes violents de ton peuple s'élèveront, afin d'accomplir la vision, mais ils succomberont.

 And in those times [6256] there shall many [7227] stand up [5975] against the king [4428] of the south: [5045] also the robbers [1121] [6530] of thy people [5971] shall exalt [5375] themselves to establish [5975] the vision; [2377] but they shall fall. [3782]

 Et le roi du nord viendra, il élèvera des terrasses et prendra les villes fortes; et les bras du midi, ni son peuple d'élite ne pourront résister. Il n'y aura point de force pour résister.

 So the king [4428] of the north [6828] shall come, [0935] and cast up [8210] a mount, [5550] and take [3920] the most fenced [4013] cities: [5892] and the arms [2220] of the south [5045] shall not withstand, [5975] neither his chosen [4005] people, [5971] neither [shall there be any] strength [3581] to withstand. [5975]

 Et celui qui sera venu contre lui fera tout ce qu'il voudra, et il n'y aura personne qui lui résiste; et il s'arrêtera dans le pays de gloire, ayant la destruction dans sa main.

 But he that cometh [0935] against him shall do [6213] according to his own will, [7522] and none shall stand [5975] before [6440] him: and he shall stand [5975] in the glorious [6643] land, [0776] which by his hand [3027] shall be consumed. [3617]

 Et il concevra le dessein de venir avec la force de tout son royaume, et fera un accord avec le roi du midi, et il lui donnera sa fille pour la perdre; mais cela ne lui réussira pas et ne sera pas pour lui.

 He shall also set [7760] his face [6440] to enter [0935] with the strength [8633] of his whole kingdom, [4438] and upright ones [3477] with him; thus shall he do: [6213] and he shall give [5414] him the daughter [1323] of women, [0802] corrupting [7843] her: but she shall not stand [5975] [on his side], neither be for him.

 Puis il tournera sa face vers les îles et en prendra plusieurs. Mais un capitaine mettra fin à l'opprobre qu'il lui attirait; il fera retomber sur lui son opprobre.

 After this shall he turn [7760] his face [6440] unto the isles, [0339] and shall take [3920] many: [7227] but a prince [7101] for his own behalf shall cause the reproach [2781] offered by him to cease; [7673] without [1115] his own reproach [2781] he shall cause [it] to turn [7725] upon him.

 Et il tournera sa face vers les forteresses de son pays, mais il chancellera, il tombera, et on ne le trouvera plus.

 Then he shall turn [7725] his face [6440] toward the fort [4581] of his own land: [0776] but he shall stumble [3782] and fall, [5307] and not be found. [4672]

 Et un autre sera établi à sa place, qui fera passer l'exacteur dans l'ornement du royaume; et en peu de jours il sera brisé, et ce ne sera ni par la colère, ni dans la bataille.

 Then shall stand up [5975] in his estate [3653] a raiser [5674] of taxes [5065] [in] the glory [1925] of the kingdom: [4438] but within few [0259] days [3117] he shall be destroyed, [7665] neither in anger, [0639] nor in battle. [4421]

 À sa place il s'élèvera un homme méprisé, auquel on ne donnera pas l'honneur de la royauté; mais il viendra feignant la paix, et il s'emparera de la royauté par des flatteries.

 And in his estate [3653] shall stand up [5975] a vile person, [0959] to whom they shall not give [5414] the honour [1935] of the kingdom: [4438] but he shall come [0935] in peaceably, [7962] and obtain [2388] the kingdom [4438] by flatteries. [2519]

 Et les forces qui submergent seront submergées devant lui et seront brisées, aussi bien que le prince son allié.

 And with the arms [2220] of a flood [7858] shall they be overflown [7857] from before [6440] him, and shall be broken; [7665] yea, also the prince [5057] of the covenant. [1285]

 Et après l'accord fait avec lui, il usera de tromperie, et il montera, et il aura le dessus avec peu de gens.

 And after the league [2266] [made] with him he shall work [6213] deceitfully: [4820] for he shall come up, [5927] and shall become strong [6105] with a small [4592] people. [1471]

 Il viendra à l'improviste dans les lieux les plus fertiles de la province, et il fera ce que n'avaient pas fait ses pères, ni les pères de ses pères; il leur distribuera le butin, les dépouilles et les richesses; et il formera des desseins contre les forteresses, et cela pour un temps.

 He shall enter [0935] peaceably [7962] even upon the fattest places [4924] of the province; [4082] and he shall do [6213] [that] which his fathers [0001] have not done, [6213] nor his fathers' [0001] fathers; [0001] he shall scatter [0967] among them the prey, [0961] and spoil, [7998] and riches: [7399] [yea], and he shall forecast [2803] his devices [4284] against the strong holds, [4013] even for a time.  Puis il réveillera sa force et son courage contre le roi du midi, avec une grande armée. Et le roi du midi s'engagera dans la guerre avec une grande et très forte armée, mais il ne subsistera pas, parce qu'on formera contre lui des complots.

 And he shall stir up [5782] his power [3581] and his courage [3824] against the king [4428] of the south [5045] with a great [1419] army; [2428] and the king [4428] of the south [5045] shall be stirred up [1624] to battle [4421] with a very [3966] great [1419] and mighty [6099] army; [2428] but he shall not stand: [5975] for they shall forecast [2803] devices [4284] against him.

 Et ceux qui mangent les mets de sa table le briseront; son armée s'écoulera comme un torrent, et beaucoup d'hommes tomberont blessés à mort.

 Yea, they that feed [0398] of the portion of his meat [6598] shall destroy [7665] him, and his army [2428] shall overflow: [7857] and many [7227] shall fall down [5307] slain. [2491]

 Et les deux rois chercheront dans leur cœur à se nuire; et à la même table ils parleront avec fausseté. Mais cela ne réussira pas, car la fin ne viendra qu'au temps marqué.

 And both [8147] these kings' [4428] hearts [3824] [shall be] to do mischief, [4827] [7451] and they shall speak [1696] lies [3577] at one [0259] table; [7979] but it shall not prosper: [6743] for yet the end [7093] [shall be] at the time appointed. [4150]

 Il retournera dans son pays avec de grandes richesses; son cœur se déclarera contre l'alliance sainte, et il agira contre elle, puis il retournera dans son pays.

 Then shall he return [7725] into his land [0776] with great [1419] riches; [7399] and his heart [3824] [shall be] against the holy [6944] covenant; [1285] and he shall do [6213] [exploits], and return [7725] to his own land. [0776]

 Au temps marqué, il reviendra et marchera contre le midi; mais cette dernière fois ne sera pas comme la précédente.

 At the time appointed [4150] he shall return, [7725] and come [0935] toward the south; [5045] but it shall not be as the former, [7223] or as the latter. [0314]

 Des navires de Kittim viendront contre lui, et il perdra courage; il s'en retournera, et il sera irrité contre l'alliance sainte et il agira contre elle, il retournera et s'entendra avec ceux qui abandonnent l'alliance sainte.

 For the ships [6716] of Chittim [3794] shall come [0935] against him: therefore he shall be grieved, [3512] and return, [7725] and have indignation [2194] against the holy [6944] covenant: [1285] so shall he do; [6213] he shall even return, [7725] and have intelligence [0995] with them that forsake [5800] the holy [6944] covenant.  Et des forces se lèveront de sa part, elles profaneront le sanctuaire, la forteresse, et feront cesser le sacrifice continuel, et mettront l'abomination qui cause la désolation.

 And arms [2220] shall stand [5975] on his part, and they shall pollute [2490] the sanctuary [4720] of strength, [4581] and shall take away [5493] the daily [8548] [sacrifice], and they shall place [5414] the abomination [8251] that maketh desolate. [8074]

 Il séduira par des flatteries les prévaricateurs de l'alliance; mais le peuple de ceux qui connaissent leur Dieu prendra courage et agira.

 And such as do wickedly [7561] against the covenant [1285] shall he corrupt [2610] by flatteries: [2514] but the people [5971] that do know [3045] their God [0430] shall be strong, [2388] and do [6213] [exploits].

 Et ceux du peuple qui seront intelligents en instruiront plusieurs; mais il y en aura qui tomberont par l'épée et par la flamme, par la captivité et par le pillage, pendant un certain temps.

 And they that understand [7919] among the people [5971] shall instruct [0995] many: [7227] yet they shall fall [3782] by the sword, [2719] and by flame, [3852] by captivity, [7628] and by spoil, [0961] [many] days. [3117]

 Et lorsqu'ils seront renversés, ils seront un peu secourus; et plusieurs se joindront à eux par hypocrisie.

 Now when they shall fall, [3782] they shall be holpen [5826] with a little [4592] help: [5828] but many [7227] shall cleave [3867] to them with flatteries. [2519]

 Et parmi les intelligents, quelques-uns seront renversés, afin qu'il y en ait qui soient éprouvés, purifiés et blanchis, jusqu'au temps de la fin, car elle ne viendra qu'au temps marqué.

 And [some] of them of understanding [7919] shall fall, [3782] to try [6884] them, and to purge, [1305] and to make [them] white, [3835] [even] to the time [6256] of the end: [7093] because [it is] yet for a time appointed. [4150]

 Un roi (Hérode) fera tout ce qu'il voudra; et il s'enorgueillira et s'élèvera au-dessus de tout dieu; il proférera des choses étranges contre le Dieu des dieux; et il prospérera jusqu'à ce que la colère soit consommée, car ce qui est décrété sera exécuté.

 And the king [4428] shall do [6213] according to his will; [7522] and he shall exalt [7311] himself, and magnify [1431] himself above every god, [0410] and shall speak [1696] marvellous things [6381] against the God [0410] of gods, [0410] and shall prosper [6743] till the indignation [2195] be accomplished: [3615] for that that is determined [2782] shall be done. [6213]

 Il n'aura égard ni aux dieux de ses pères, ni au désir des femmes; il n'aura égard à aucun dieu; car il s'élèvera au-dessus de tout.

 Neither shall he regard [0995] the God [0430] of his fathers, [0001] nor the desire [2532] of women, [0802] nor regard [0995] any god: [0433] for he shall magnify [1431] himself above all.

38

 Mais, à la place, il honorera le dieu des forteresses. Il honorera avec de l'or, de l'argent, des pierres précieuses et avec les choses les plus désirables, un dieu que n'ont pas connu ses pères.

 But in his estate [3653] shall he honour [3513] the God [0433] of forces: [4581] and a god [0433] whom his fathers [0001] knew [3045] not shall he honour [3513] with gold, [2091] and silver, [3701] and with precious [3368] stones, [0068] and pleasant things. [2532]

 Et il agira ainsi dans les remparts des forteresses avec un dieu étranger: à ceux qui le reconnaîtront, il multipliera la gloire; il les fera dominer sur plusieurs et leur partagera le pays en récompense.

 Thus shall he do [6213] in the most strong [4581] holds [4013] with a strange [5236] god, [0433] whom he shall acknowledge [5234] [and] increase [7235] with glory: [3519] and he shall cause them to rule [4910] over many, [7227] and shall divide [2505] the land [0127] for gain. [4242]

 Et au temps de la fin, le roi du midi se heurtera contre lui; et le roi du nord fondra sur lui comme une tempête, avec des chars et des cavaliers et beaucoup de navires.

 And at the time [6256] of the end [7093] shall the king [4428] of the south [5045] push [5055] at him: and the king [4428] of the north [6828] shall come against him like a whirlwind, [8175] with chariots, [7393] and with horsemen, [6571] and with many [7227] ships; [0591] and he shall enter [0935] into the countries, [0776] and shall overflow [7857] and pass over. [5674]

41

 Il entrera dans les terres, se répandra comme un torrent et passera. Il entrera dans le pays de gloire; et plusieurs pays succomberont, mais ceux-ci échapperont de sa main: Édom et Moab et les principaux des enfants d'Ammon.

 He shall enter [0935] also into the glorious [6643] land, [0776] and many [7227] [countries] shall be overthrown: [3782] but these shall escape [4422] out of his hand, [3027] [even] Edom, [0123] and Moab, [4124] and the chief [7225] of the children [1121] of Ammon. [5983]

 Il étendra sa main sur les pays, et le pays d'Égypte n'échappera point.

 He shall stretch forth [7971] his hand [3027] also upon the countries: [0776] and the land [0776] of Egypt [4714] shall not escape. [6413]

43

 Il se rendra maître des trésors d'or et d'argent et de toutes les choses précieuses de l'Égypte. Les Libyens et les Éthiopiens seront à sa suite.

 But he shall have power [4910] over the treasures [4362] of gold [2091] and of silver, [3701] and over all the precious things [2532] of Egypt: [4714] and the Libyans [3864] and the Ethiopians [3569] [shall be] at his steps. [4703]

 Mais des nouvelles de l'orient et du nord viendront le troubler; et il sortira avec une grande fureur pour détruire et exterminer beaucoup de gens.

 But tidings [8052] out of the east [4217] and out of the north [6828] shall trouble [0926] him: therefore he shall go forth [3318] with great [1419] fury [2534] to destroy, [8045] and utterly to make away [2763] many. [7227]

 Il dressera les tentes de son palais entre les mers, vers la montagne glorieuse et sainte. Puis il viendra à sa fin, et personne ne lui donnera de secours.

 And he shall plant [5193] the tabernacles [0168] of his palace [0643] between the seas [3220] in the glorious [6643] holy [6944] mountain; [2022] yet he shall come [0935] to his end, [7093] and none shall help [5826] him.

 En ce temps-là, se lèvera Michaël, le Souverain Maître, qui tient ferme pour les enfants de ton peuple; et ce sera un temps de détresse tel qu'il n'y en a point eu depuis qu'il existe des nations, jusqu'à ce temps-là. En ce temps-là, ton peuple échappera, savoir quiconque sera trouvé inscrit dans le livre.

 And at that time [6256] shall Michael [4317] stand up, [5975] the great [1419] prince [8269] which standeth [5975] for the children [1121] of thy people: [5971] and there shall be a time [6256] of trouble, [6869] such as never was [1961] since there was a nation [1471] [even] to that same time: [6256] and at that time [6256] thy people [5971] shall be delivered, [4422] every one that shall be found [4672] written [3789] in the book.  Et plusieurs de ceux qui dorment dans la poussière de la terre se réveilleront, les uns pour la vie éternelle, les autres pour l'opprobre et une honte éternelle.

 And many [7227] of them that sleep [3463] in the dust [0127] of the earth [6083] shall awake, [6974] some to everlasting [5769] life, [2416] and some to shame [2781] [and] everlasting [5769] contempt. [1860]

 Ceux qui auront été intelligents brilleront comme la splendeur de l'étendue, et ceux qui en auront amené plusieurs à la justice brilleront comme des étoiles, à toujours et à perpétuité.

 And they that be wise [7919] shall shine [2094] as the brightness [2096] of the firmament; [7549] and they that turn many [7227] to righteousness [6663] as the stars [3556] for ever [5769] and ever. [5703]

 Et toi, Daniel, cache ces paroles et scelle ce livre jusqu'au temps de la fin. Plusieurs le parcourront et sa connaissance augmentera.

 But thou, O Daniel, [1840] shut up [5640] the words, [1697] and seal [2856] the book, [5612] [even] to the time [6256] of the end: [7093] many [7227] shall run to and fro, [7751] and knowledge [1847] shall be increased. [7235]

 Et moi, Daniel, je regardai, et voici, deux autres hommes se tenaient debout, l'un de ce côté-ci du bord du fleuve, l'autre au-delà du bord du fleuve.

 Et on dit à l'homme vêtu de lin, qui était au-dessus des eaux du fleuve: Quand sera la fin de ces merveilles?

 And [one] said [0559] to the man [0376] clothed [3847] in linen, [0906] which [was] upon [4605] the waters [4325] of the river, [2975] How long [shall it be to] the end [7093] of these wonders? [6382]

 Et j'entendis l'homme vêtu de lin, qui était au-dessus des eaux du fleuve; il leva sa main droite et sa main gauche vers les cieux, et il jura par celui qui vit éternellement que ce sera pour un temps, des temps et la moitié d'un temps, et que quand il aura achevé de briser la force du peuple saint toutes ces choses seront accomplies.

 And I heard [8085] the man [0376] clothed [3847] in linen, [0906] which [was] upon [4605] the waters [4325] of the river, [2975] when he held up [7311] his right hand [3225] and his left hand [8040] unto heaven, [8064] and sware [7650] by him that liveth [2416] for ever [5769] that [it shall be] for a time, [4150] times, [4150] and an half; [2677] and when he shall have accomplished [3615] to scatter [5310] the power [3027] of the holy [6944] people, [5971] all these [thing

 Et moi j'entendis, mais je ne compris pas. Et je dis: Mon seigneur, quelle sera l'issue de ces choses?

 And I heard, [8085] but I understood [0995] not: then said [0559] I, O my Lord, [0113] what [shall be] the end [0319] of these [things]?

 Et il dit: Va, Daniel, car ces paroles sont cachées et scellées jusqu'au temps de la diminution.

 And he said, [0559] Go thy way, [3212] Daniel: [1840] for the words [1697] [are] closed up [5640] and sealed [2856] till the time [6256] of the end. [7093]

 Plusieurs seront purifiés, blanchis et éprouvés, mais les méchants agiront avec méchanceté, et aucun des méchants ne comprendra, mais les intelligents comprendront.

 Many [7227] shall be purified, [1305] and made white, [3835] and tried; [6884] but the wicked [7563] shall do wickedly: [7561] and none of the wicked [7563] shall understand; [0995] but the wise [7919] shall understand. [0995]

 Et, depuis le temps où cessera le sacrifice continuel et où l'on mettra l'abomination de la désolation, il y aura mille deux cent quatre-vingt-dix jours.

 And from the time [6256] [that] the daily [8548] [sacrifice] shall be taken away, [5493] and the abomination [8251] that maketh desolate [8074] set up, [5414] [there shall be] a thousand [0505] two hundred [3967] and ninety [8673] days. [3117]

 Heureux celui qui attendra, et qui atteindra jusqu'à mille trois cent trente-cinq jours!

 Blessed [0835] [is] he that waiteth, [2442] and cometh [5060] to the thousand [0505] three [7969] hundred [3967] and five [2568] and thirty [7970] days. [3117]

 Mais toi, va ton chemin jusqu'à la résolution. Tu te reposeras, et tu seras établi dans ta succession, au temps déterminé.

 But go thou thy way [3212] till the end [7093] [be]: for thou shalt rest, [5117] and stand [5975] in thy lot [1486] at the end [7093] of the days. [3117]
