Il arriva, aux jours du gouvernement des juges, qu'il y eut une famine dans le pays, et un homme de Bethléhem de Juda s'en alla habiter la campagne de Moab, lui, sa femme, et ses deux fils.

 Le nom de cet homme était Élimélec, et le nom de sa femme Naomi, et les noms de ses deux fils Machlon et Kiljon; ils étaient Éphratiens, de Bethléhem de Juda, et ils vinrent dans la campagne de Moab, et ils s'y établirent.

 And the name [8034] of the man [0376] [was] Elimelech, [0458] and the name [8034] of his wife [0802] Naomi, [5281] and the name [8034] of his two [8147] sons [1121] Mahlon [4248] and Chilion, [3630] Ephrathites [0673] of Bethlehemjudah.  Or, Élimélec, mari de Naomi, mourut, et elle resta avec ses deux fils.

 And Elimelech [0458] Naomi's [5281] husband [0376] died; [4191] and she was left, [7604] and her two [8147] sons. [1121]

 Ceux-ci épousèrent des femmes moabites, dont l'une s'appelait Orpa, et l'autre Ruth; et ils demeurèrent là environ dix ans.

 And they took [5375] them wives [0802] of the women of Moab; [4125] the name [8034] of the one [0259] [was] Orpah, [6204] and the name [8034] of the other [8145] Ruth: [7327] and they dwelled [3427] there about ten [6235] years. [8141]

 Puis, Machlon et Kiljon étant morts aussi, cette femme demeura seule, privée de ses deux fils et de son mari.

 And Mahlon [4248] and Chilion [3630] died [4191] also both [8147] of them; and the woman [0802] was left [7604] of her two [8147] sons [3206] and her husband. [0376]

 Alors elle se leva avec ses belles-filles, pour s'en retourner de la campagne de Moab; car elle y avait appris que YEHOVAH avait visité son peuple, en lui donnant du pain.

 Then she arose [6965] with her daughters in law, [3618] that she might return [7725] from the country [7704] of Moab: [4124] for she had heard [8085] in the country [7704] of Moab [4124] how that the LORD [3068] had visited [6485] his people [5971] in giving [5414] them bread. [3899]

 Elle sortit donc du lieu où elle avait demeuré, et ses deux belles-filles avec elle; et elles se mirent en chemin pour retourner au pays de Juda.

 Wherefore she went forth [3318] out of the place [4725] where she was, and her two [8147] daughters in law [3618] with her; and they went [3212] on the way [1870] to return [7725] unto the land [0776] of Judah. [3063]

 Et Naomi dit à ses deux belles-filles: Allez, retournez chacune à la maison de sa mère. YEHOVAH vous traite avec bonté, comme vous avez fait à ceux qui sont morts, et à moi!

 And Naomi [5281] said [0559] unto her two [8147] daughters in law, [3618] Go, [3212] return [7725] each [0802] to her mother's [0517] house: [1004] the LORD [3068] deal [6213] kindly [2617] with you, as ye have dealt [6213] with the dead, [4191] and with me.

 YEHOVAH vous fasse trouver du repos à chacune dans la maison d'un mari! Et elle les baisa. Mais elles élevèrent la voix et pleurèrent,

 The LORD [3068] grant [5414] you that ye may find [4672] rest, [4496] each [0802] [of you] in the house [1004] of her husband. [0376] Then she kissed [5401] them; and they lifted up [5375] their voice, [6963] and wept. [1058]

 Et lui dirent: Nous retournerons avec toi vers ton peuple.

 And they said [0559] unto her, Surely we will return [7725] with thee unto thy people. [5971]

 Mais Naomi répondit: Retournez, mes filles; pourquoi viendriez-vous avec moi? Ai-je encore dans mon sein des fils qui puissent devenir vos maris?

 And Naomi [5281] said, [0559] Turn again, [7725] my daughters: [1323] why will ye go [3212] with me? [are] there yet [any more] sons [1121] in my womb, [4578] that they may be your husbands? [0582]

 Retournez, mes filles, allez. Je suis trop âgée pour me remarier; et quand je dirais: J'ai de l'espérance; et quand cette nuit même je serais avec un mari, et que j'enfanterais des fils,

 Turn again, [7725] my daughters, [1323] go [3212] [your way]; for I am too old [2204] to have an husband. [0376] If I should say, [0559] I have [3426] hope, [8615] [if] I should have an husband [0376] also to night, [3915] and should also bear [3205] sons; [1121]

 Attendriez-vous jusqu'à ce qu'ils devinssent grands? Resteriez-vous confinées sans vous remarier? Non, mes filles; car je suis en plus grande amertume que vous, parce que la main de YEHOVAH s'est appesantie sur moi.

 Would ye tarry [7663] for them [3860] till they were grown? [1431] would ye stay [5702] for them [3860] from having husbands? [0376] nay, my daughters; [1323] for it grieveth [4843] me much [3966] for your sakes that the hand [3027] of the LORD [3068] is gone out [3318] against me.

 Alors elles élevèrent leur voix et pleurèrent encore. Et Orpa baisa sa belle-mère; mais Ruth s'attacha à elle.

 And they lifted up [5375] their voice, [6963] and wept [1058] again: and Orpah [6204] kissed [5401] her mother in law; [2545] but Ruth [7327] clave [1692] unto her.

 Alors Naomi dit: Voici, ta belle-sœur s'en est allée vers son peuple et vers ses dieux; retourne après ta belle-sœur.

 And she said, [0559] Behold, thy sister in law [2994] is gone back [7725] unto her people, [5971] and unto her gods: [0430] return [7725] thou after [0310] thy sister in law. [2994]

 Mais Ruth répondit: Ne me presse pas de te laisser, pour m'éloigner de toi; car où tu iras j'irai, et où tu demeureras je demeurerai; ton peuple sera mon peuple, et ton Dieu sera mon Dieu;

 And Ruth [7327] said, [0559] Intreat [6293] me not to leave [5800] thee, [or] to return [7725] from following after [0310] thee: for whither thou goest, [3212] I will go; [3212] and where thou lodgest, [3885] I will lodge: [3885] thy people [5971] [shall be] my people, [5971] and thy God [0430] my God: [0430]

 Où tu mourras je mourrai, et j'y serai ensevelie. Que YEHOVAH me traite avec la dernière rigueur, si autre chose que la mort me sépare de toi!

 Where thou diest, [4191] will I die, [4191] and there will I be buried: [6912] the LORD [3068] do [6213] so to me, and more [3254] also, [if ought] but death [4194] part [6504] thee and me.

 Naomi, voyant donc qu'elle était résolue d'aller avec elle, cessa de lui en parler.

 When she saw [7200] that she was stedfastly minded [0553] to go [3212] with her, then she left [2308] speaking [1696] unto her.

 Et elles marchèrent toutes deux jusqu'à ce qu'elles arrivassent à Bethléhem. Et comme elles entraient dans Bethléhem, toute la ville fut émue à cause d'elles, et les femmes disaient: N'est-ce pas Naomi?

 So they two [8147] went [3212] until they came [0935] to Bethlehem. [1035] And it came to pass, when they were come [0935] to Bethlehem, [1035] that all the city [5892] was moved [1949] about them, and they said, [0559] [Is] this Naomi? [5281]

 Et elle leur répondit: Ne m'appelez point Naomi (la belle), appelez-moi Mara (amère); car le Tout-Puissant m'a remplie d'amertume.

 And she said [0559] unto them, Call [7121] me not Naomi, [5281] call [7121] me Mara: [4755] [4751] for the Almighty [7706] hath dealt very [3966] bitterly [4843] with me.

 Je suis partie dans l'abondance, et YEHOVAH me ramène vide. Pourquoi m'appelleriez-vous Naomi, puisque YEHOVAH m'a abattue, et que le Tout-Puissant m'a affligée?

 I went out [1980] full, [4392] and the LORD [3068] hath brought me home again [7725] empty: [7387] why [then] call [7121] ye me Naomi, [5281] seeing the LORD [3068] hath testified [6030] against me, and the Almighty [7706] hath afflicted [7489] me?

 C'est ainsi que Naomi s'en retourna avec Ruth, la Moabite, sa belle-fille, qui était venue de la campagne de Moab. Et elles entrèrent dans Bethléhem, au commencement de la moisson des orges.

 So Naomi [5281] returned, [7725] and Ruth [7327] the Moabitess, [4125] her daughter in law, [3618] with her, which returned [7725] out of the country [7704] of Moab: [4124] and they came [0935] to Bethlehem [1035] in the beginning [8462] of barley [8184] harvest. [7105]

 Or le mari de Naomi avait un parent qui était un homme puissant et riche, de la famille d'Élimélec; son nom était Booz.

 And Naomi [5281] had a kinsman [4129] [3045] of her husband's, [0376] a mighty [1368] man [0376] of wealth, [2428] of the family [4940] of Elimelech; [0458] and his name [8034] [was] Boaz. [1162]

 Et Ruth, la Moabite, dit à Naomi: Laisse-moi aller aux champs, et glaner des épis après celui aux yeux duquel j'aurai trouvé grâce. Et elle lui répondit: Va, ma fille.

 And Ruth [7327] the Moabitess [4125] said [0559] unto Naomi, [5281] Let me now go [3212] to the field, [7704] and glean [3950] ears of corn [7641] after [0310] [him] in whose sight [5869] I shall find [4672] grace. [2580] And she said [0559] unto her, Go, [3212] my daughter. [1323]

 Elle s'en alla donc, et vint glaner dans un champ, derrière les moissonneurs. Et il se rencontra qu'elle était dans une portion du champ de Booz, de la famille d'Élimélec.

 And she went, [3212] and came, [0935] and gleaned [3950] in the field [7704] after [0310] the reapers: [7114] and her hap [4745] was to light [7136] on a part [2513] of the field [7704] [belonging] unto Boaz, [1162] who [was] of the kindred [4940] of Elimelech. [0458]

 Et voici, Booz vint de Bethléhem, et dit aux moissonneurs: Que YEHOVAH soit avec vous! Et ils lui répondirent: Que YEHOVAH te bénisse!

 And, behold, Boaz [1162] came [0935] from Bethlehem, [1035] and said [0559] unto the reapers, [7114] The LORD [3068] [be] with you. And they answered [0559] him, The LORD [3068] bless [1288] thee.

 Puis Booz dit à son serviteur, chef des moissonneurs: À qui est cette jeune fille?

 Then said [0559] Boaz [1162] unto his servant [5288] that was set over [5324] the reapers, [7114] Whose damsel [5291] [is] this?

 Et le serviteur, chef des moissonneurs, répondit et dit: C'est une jeune femme moabite, qui est revenue avec Naomi de la campagne de Moab;

 And the servant [5288] that was set over [5324] the reapers [7114] answered [6030] and said, [0559] It [is] the Moabitish [4125] damsel [5291] that came back [7725] with Naomi [5281] out of the country [7704] of Moab: [4124]

 Et elle nous a dit: Laissez-moi glaner, je vous prie; je ramasserai des épis entre les gerbes derrière les moissonneurs. Et elle est venue, et elle a été debout depuis le matin jusqu'à présent, et ne s'est reposée qu'un moment dans la maison.

 And she said, [0559] I pray you, let me glean [3950] and gather [0622] after [0310] the reapers [7114] among the sheaves: [6016] so she came, [0935] and hath continued [5975] even [0227] from the morning [1242] until now, that she tarried [3427] a little [4592] in the house. [1004]

 Alors Booz dit à Ruth: Écoute, ma fille, ne va pas glaner dans un autre champ; et même ne sors point d'ici, et reste avec mes servantes;

 Then said [0559] Boaz [1162] unto Ruth, [7327] Hearest [8085] thou not, my daughter? [1323] Go [3212] not to glean [3950] in another [0312] field, [7704] neither go [5674] from hence, but abide here fast [1692] by my maidens: [5291]

 Regarde le champ où l'on moissonnera, et va après elles. Voici, j'ai défendu à mes serviteurs de te toucher. Et si tu as soif, tu iras boire à la cruche, de ce que les serviteurs auront puisé.

 [Let] thine eyes [5869] [be] on the field [7704] that they do reap, [7114] and go [1980] thou after [0310] them: have I not charged [6680] the young men [5288] that they shall not touch [5060] thee? and when thou art athirst, [6770] go [1980] unto the vessels, [3627] and drink [8354] of [that] which the young men [5288] have drawn. [7579]

 Alors elle se jeta sur sa face, se prosterna contre terre, et lui dit: Comment ai-je trouvé grâce à tes yeux, que tu me reconnaisses, moi qui suis étrangère?

 Then she fell [5307] on her face, [6440] and bowed [7812] herself to the ground, [0776] and said [0559] unto him, Why have I found [4672] grace [2580] in thine eyes, [5869] that thou shouldest take knowledge [5234] of me, seeing I [am] a stranger? [5237]

 Booz répondit, et lui dit: Tout ce que tu as fait à ta belle-mère, depuis la mort de ton mari, m'a été entièrement rapporté, comment tu as laissé ton père, et ta mère, et le pays de ta naissance, et comment tu es venue vers un peuple que tu ne connaissais point hier, ni avant.

 And Boaz [1162] answered [6030] and said [0559] unto her, It hath fully [5046] been shewed [5046] me, all that thou hast done [6213] unto thy mother in law [2545] since [0310] the death [4194] of thine husband: [0376] and [how] thou hast left [5800] thy father [0001] and thy mother, [0517] and the land [0776] of thy nativity, [4138] and art come [3212] unto a people [5971] which thou knewest [3045] not heretofore. [8543] [8032]

 Que YEHOVAH te rende ce que tu as fait! et que ta récompense soit entière de la part de YEHOVAH, le Dieu d'Israël, sous les ailes duquel tu es venue te réfugier!

 The LORD [3068] recompense [7999] thy work, [6467] and a full [8003] reward [4909] be given thee of the LORD [3068] God [0430] of Israel, [3478] under whose wings [3671] thou art come [0935] to trust. [2620]

 Et elle dit: Mon seigneur, je trouve grâce à tes yeux; car tu m'as consolée, et tu as parlé selon le cœur de ta servante, bien que je ne sois pas, moi, comme l'une de tes servantes.

 Then she said, [0559] Let me find [4672] favour [2580] in thy sight, [5869] my lord; [0113] for that thou hast comforted [5162] me, and for that thou hast spoken [1696] friendly [3820] unto thine handmaid, [8198] though I be not like unto one [0259] of thine handmaidens. [8198]

 Booz lui dit encore, au temps du repas: Approche-toi d'ici, et mange du pain, et trempe ton morceau dans le vinaigre. Elle s'assit donc à côté des moissonneurs, et il lui donna du grain rôti, et elle en mangea, et fut rassasiée, et elle en garda un reste.

 And Boaz [1162] said [0559] unto her, At mealtime [6256] [0400] come [5066] thou hither, [1988] and eat [0398] of the bread, [3899] and dip [2881] thy morsel [6595] in the vinegar. [2558] And she sat [3427] beside [6654] the reapers: [7114] and he reached [6642] her parched [7039] [corn], and she did eat, [0398] and was sufficed, [7646] and left. [3498]

 Puis elle se leva pour glaner. Et Booz donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: Qu'elle glane même entre les gerbes, et ne lui faites point de honte;

 And when she was risen up [6965] to glean, [3950] Boaz [1162] commanded [6680] his young men, [5288] saying, [0559] Let her glean [3950] even among the sheaves, [6016] and reproach [3637] her not:

 Et même, vous tirerez pour elle des gerbes quelques épis que vous lui laisserez glaner, et vous ne la gronderez point.

 And let fall [7997] also [some] of the handfuls [6653] of purpose [7997] for her, and leave [5800] [them], that she may glean [3950] [them], and rebuke [1605] her not.

 Elle glana donc dans le champ jusqu'au soir; et elle battit ce qu'elle avait recueilli, et il y en eut environ un épha d'orge.

 So she gleaned [3950] in the field [7704] until even, [6153] and beat out [2251] that she had gleaned: [3950] and it was about an ephah [0374] of barley. [8184]

 Et elle l'emporta, et rentra à la ville; et sa belle-mère vit ce qu'elle avait glané. Elle sortit aussi ce qu'elle avait gardé de reste, après avoir été rassasiée, et elle le lui donna.

 And she took [it] up, [5375] and went [0935] into the city: [5892] and her mother in law [2545] saw [7200] what she had gleaned: [3950] and she brought forth, [3318] and gave [5414] to her that she had reserved [3498] after she was sufficed. [7648]

 Alors sa belle-mère lui dit: Où as-tu glané aujourd'hui, et où as-tu travaillé? Béni soit celui qui t'a reconnue! Et elle raconta à sa belle-mère chez qui elle avait travaillé, et lui dit: L'homme chez qui j'ai travaillé aujourd'hui s'appelle Booz.

 And her mother in law [2545] said [0559] unto her, Where hast thou gleaned [3950] to day? [3117] and where [0375] wroughtest [6213] thou? blessed [1288] be he that did take knowledge [5234] of thee. And she shewed [5046] her mother in law [2545] with whom she had wrought, [6213] and said, [0559] The man's [0376] name [8034] with whom I wrought [6213] to day [3117] [is] Boaz. [1162]

 Et Naomi dit à sa belle-fille: Qu'il soit béni de YEHOVAH, puisqu'il a la même bonté pour les vivants qu'il avait eue pour les morts! Et Naomi lui dit: Cet homme est notre parent, et de ceux qui ont sur nous le droit de rachat.

 And Naomi [5281] said [0559] unto her daughter in law, [3618] Blessed [1288] [be] he of the LORD, [3068] who hath not left off [5800] his kindness [2617] to the living [2416] and to the dead. [4191] And Naomi [5281] said [0559] unto her, The man [0376] [is] near of kin [7138] unto us, one of our next kinsmen. [1350]

 Alors Ruth, la Moabite, ajouta: Il m'a dit aussi: Reste avec mes serviteurs, jusqu'à ce qu'ils aient achevé toute ma moisson.

 And Ruth [7327] the Moabitess [4125] said, [0559] He said [0559] unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast [1692] by my young men, [5288] until they have ended [3615] all my harvest. [7105]

 Et Naomi dit à Ruth, sa belle-fille: Ma fille, il est bon que tu sortes avec ses servantes, et qu'on ne te rencontre pas dans un autre champ.

 And Naomi [5281] said [0559] unto Ruth [7327] her daughter in law, [3618] [It is] good, [2896] my daughter, [1323] that thou go out [3318] with his maidens, [5291] that they meet [6293] thee not in any other [0312] field. [7704]

 Elle s'attacha donc aux servantes de Booz, pour glaner jusqu'à la fin de la moisson des orges et de la moisson des froments; et elle demeurait avec sa belle-mère.

 So she kept fast [1692] by the maidens [5291] of Boaz [1162] to glean [3950] unto the end [3615] of barley [8184] harvest [7105] and of wheat [2406] harvest; [7105] and dwelt [3427] with her mother in law. [2545]

 Et Naomi, sa belle-mère, lui dit: Ma fille, ne te chercherai-je pas un asile, afin que tu sois heureuse?

 Then Naomi [5281] her mother in law [2545] said [0559] unto her, My daughter, [1323] shall I not seek [1245] rest [4494] for thee, that it may be well [3190] with thee?

 Et maintenant, Booz, avec les servantes de qui tu as été, n'est-il pas notre parent? Voici, il vannera cette nuit les orges qui sont dans son aire.

 And now [is] not Boaz [1162] of our kindred, [4130] with whose maidens [5291] thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth [2219] barley [8184] to night [3915] in the threshingfloor. [1637]

 Lave-toi, et oins-toi, et mets sur toi ton manteau, et descends dans l'aire; mais ne te fais point connaître à cet homme, jusqu'à ce qu'il ait achevé de manger et de boire.

 Wash [7364] thyself therefore, and anoint [5480] thee, and put [7760] thy raiment [8071] upon thee, and get thee down [3381] to the floor: [1637] [but] make not thyself known [3045] unto the man, [0376] until he shall have done [3615] eating [0398] and drinking. [8354]

 Et quand il se couchera, sache le lieu où il couche, puis entre, et découvre ses pieds, et te couche; alors il te dira ce que tu auras à faire.

 And it shall be, when he lieth down, [7901] that thou shalt mark [3045] the place [4725] where he shall lie, [7901] and thou shalt go in, [0935] and uncover [1540] his feet, [4772] and lay thee down; [7901] and he will tell [5046] thee what thou shalt do. [6213]

 Et elle lui répondit: Je ferai tout ce que tu me dis.

 And she said [0559] unto her, All that thou sayest [0559] unto me I will do. [6213]

 Elle descendit donc à l'aire, et fit tout ce que sa belle-mère lui avait commandé.

 And she went down [3381] unto the floor, [1637] and did [6213] according to all that her mother in law [2545] bade [6680] her.

 Et Booz mangea et but, et son cœur fut heureux, et il vint se coucher au bout d'un tas de gerbes. Alors elle vint tout doucement, et découvrit ses pieds, et se coucha.

 And when Boaz [1162] had eaten [0398] and drunk, [8354] and his heart [3820] was merry, [3190] he went [0935] to lie down [7901] at the end [7097] of the heap of corn: [6194] and she came [0935] softly, [3909] and uncovered [1540] his feet, [4772] and laid her down. [7901]

 Et au milieu de la nuit, cet homme-là eut peur; il se pencha, et voici, une femme était couchée à ses pieds.

 And it came to pass at midnight, [2677] [3915] that the man [0376] was afraid, [2729] and turned [3943] himself: and, behold, a woman [0802] lay [7901] at his feet. [4772]

 Alors il lui dit: Qui es-tu? Et elle répondit: Je suis Ruth, ta servante. Étends le pan de ta robe sur ta servante; car tu as droit de rachat.

 And he said, [0559] Who [art] thou? And she answered, [0559] I [am] Ruth [7327] thine handmaid: [0519] spread [6566] therefore thy skirt [3671] over thine handmaid; [0519] for thou [art] a near kinsman. [1350]

 Et il dit: Ma fille, que YEHOVAH te bénisse! Cette dernière bonté que tu me témoignes est plus grande que la première, de n'être point allée après les jeunes gens, pauvres ou riches.

 And he said, [0559] Blessed [1288] [be] thou of the LORD, [3068] my daughter: [1323] [for] thou hast shewed more [3190] kindness [2617] in the latter end [0314] than at the beginning, [7223] inasmuch as thou followedst [3212] [0310] not [1115] young men, [0970] whether poor [1800] or rich. [6223]

 Maintenant donc, ma fille, ne crains point, je ferai pour toi tout ce que tu me diras; car toute la porte de mon peuple sait que tu es une femme vertueuse.

 And now, my daughter, [1323] fear [3372] not; I will do [6213] to thee all that thou requirest: [0559] for all the city [8179] of my people [5971] doth know [3045] that thou [art] a virtuous [2428] woman. [0802]

 Et maintenant, il est très vrai que j'ai droit de rachat; mais il y en a un autre, qui est plus proche que moi.

 And now it is true [0551] that I [am thy] near kinsman: [1350] howbeit there is [3426] a kinsman [1350] nearer [7138] than I.

 Passe ici cette nuit; et, au matin, si cet homme veut user du droit de rachat envers toi, à la bonne heure, qu'il en use; mais s'il ne lui plaît pas de te racheter, moi je te rachèterai; YEHOVAH est vivant! Reste couchée jusqu'au matin.

 Tarry [3885] this night, [3915] and it shall be in the morning, [1242] [that] if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, [1350] well; [2896] let him do the kinsman's part: [1350] but if he will [2654] not do the part of a kinsman [1350] to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman [1350] to thee, [as] the LORD [3068] liveth: [2416] lie down [7901] until the morning. [1242]

 Elle demeura donc couchée à ses pieds, jusqu'au matin; et elle se leva avant qu'on pût se reconnaître l'un l'autre. Et Booz dit: Qu'on ne sache pas qu'une femme est entrée dans l'aire.

 And she lay [7901] at his feet [4772] until the morning: [1242] and she rose up [6965] before [2958] one [0376] could know [5234] another. [7453] And he said, [0559] Let it not be known [3045] that a woman [0802] came [0935] into the floor. [1637]

 Il lui dit encore: Donne-moi le manteau qui est sur toi, et tiens-le. Et elle le tint, et il mesura six mesures d'orge, qu'il chargea sur elle; puis il rentra dans la ville.

 Also he said, [0559] Bring [3051] the vail [4304] that [thou hast] upon thee, and hold [0270] it. And when she held [0270] it, he measured [4058] six [8337] [measures] of barley, [8184] and laid [7896] [it] on her: and she went [0935] into the city. [5892]

 Puis Ruth revint chez sa belle-mère, qui lui dit: Qui es-tu, ma fille? Et elle lui déclara tout ce que cet homme avait fait pour elle.

 And when she came [0935] to her mother in law, [2545] she said, [0559] Who [art] thou, my daughter? [1323] And she told [5046] her all that the man [0376] had done [6213] to her.

 Et elle dit: Il m'a donné ces six mesures d'orge; car il m'a dit: Tu ne retourneras point à vide auprès de ta belle-mère.

 And she said, [0559] These six [8337] [measures] of barley [8184] gave [5414] he me; for he said [0559] to me, Go [0935] not empty [7387] unto thy mother in law. [2545]

 Et Naomi dit: Ma fille, reste ici jusqu'à ce que tu saches comment la chose tournera; car cet homme ne se donnera point de repos qu'il n'ait aujourd'hui achevé cette affaire.

 Then said [0559] she, Sit still, [3427] my daughter, [1323] until thou know [3045] how the matter [1697] will fall: [5307] for the man [0376] will not be in rest, [8252] until [0518] he have finished [3615] the thing [1697] this day. [3117]

 Booz monta donc à la porte de la ville, et s'y assit; et voici, celui qui avait le droit de rachat, dont Booz avait parlé, vint à passer; et Booz lui dit: Toi, un tel, détourne-toi, et assieds-toi ici. Et il se détourna, et s'assit.

 Then went Boaz [1162] up [5927] to the gate, [8179] and sat him down [3427] there: and, behold, the kinsman [1350] of whom Boaz [1162] spake [1696] came by; [5674] unto whom he said, [0559] Ho, such [6423] a one! [0492] turn aside, [5493] sit down [3427] here. And he turned aside, [5493] and sat down. [3427]

 Alors il prit dix hommes, d'entre les anciens de la ville, et il leur dit: Asseyez-vous ici; et ils s'assirent.

 And he took [3947] ten [6235] men [0582] of the elders [2205] of the city, [5892] and said, [0559] Sit ye down [3427] here. And they sat down. [3427]

 Puis il dit à celui qui avait le droit de rachat: Naomi, qui est revenue du pays de Moab, a vendu la portion d'un champ qui appartenait à Élimélec notre frère.

 And he said [0559] unto the kinsman, [1350] Naomi, [5281] that is come again [7725] out of the country [7704] of Moab, [4124] selleth [4376] a parcel [2513] of land, [7704] which [was] our brother [0251] Elimelech's: [0458]

 Et j'ai dit: Je veux t'en informer et te dire: Acquiers-la, en présence des habitants et des anciens de mon peuple; si tu veux la racheter, rachète-la; et si tu ne veux pas la racheter, déclare-le-moi, et que je le sache; car il n'y en a point d'autre avant toi qui ait le droit de rachat, et je l'ai après toi. Il répondit: Je rachèterai.

 And I thought [0559] to advertise [1540] [0241] thee, saying, [0559] Buy [7069] [it] before the inhabitants, [3427] and before the elders [2205] of my people. [5971] If thou wilt redeem [1350] [it], redeem [1350] [it]: but if thou wilt not redeem [1350] [it, then] tell [5046] me, that I may know: [3045] for [there is] none to redeem [1350] [it] beside [2108] thee; and I [am] after [0310] thee. And he said, [0559] I will redeem [1350] [it].

 Alors Booz dit: Au jour que tu acquerras le champ, de la main de Naomi et de Ruth, la Moabite, femme du défunt, tu acquerras aussi Ruth, pour conserver le nom du défunt dans son héritage.

 Then said [0559] Boaz, [1162] What day [3117] thou buyest [7069] the field [7704] of the hand [3027] of Naomi, [5281] thou must buy [7069] [it] also of Ruth [7327] the Moabitess, [4125] the wife [0802] of the dead, [4191] to raise up [6965] the name [8034] of the dead [4191] upon his inheritance. [5159]

 Et celui qui avait le droit de rachat dit: Je ne saurais racheter, de peur que je ne perde mon héritage; toi, prends pour toi mon droit de rachat; car je ne puis pas racheter.

 And the kinsman [1350] said, [0559] I cannot [3808] [3201] redeem [1350] [it] for myself, lest I mar [7843] mine own inheritance: [5159] redeem [1350] thou my right [1353] to thyself; for I cannot [3808] [3201] redeem [1350] [it].

 (Or, autrefois en Israël, en cas de rachat et de subrogation, pour confirmer la chose, l'homme ôtait son soulier et le donnait à son parent; cela servait de témoignage en Israël.)

 Now this [was the manner] in former time [6440] in Israel [3478] concerning redeeming [1353] and concerning changing, [8545] for to confirm [6965] all things; [1697] a man [0376] plucked off [8025] his shoe, [5275] and gave [5414] [it] to his neighbour: [7453] and this [was] a testimony [8584] in Israel. [3478]

 Celui qui avait le droit de rachat dit donc à Booz: Acquiers-le pour toi! et il ôta son soulier.

 Therefore the kinsman [1350] said [0559] unto Boaz, [1162] Buy [7069] [it] for thee. So he drew off [8025] his shoe. [5275]

 Alors Booz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple: Vous êtes aujourd'hui témoins que j'ai acquis de la main de Naomi tout ce qui appartenait à Élimélec, et tout ce qui était à Kiljon et à Machlon;

 And Boaz [1162] said [0559] unto the elders, [2205] and [unto] all the people, [5971] Ye [are] witnesses [5707] this day, [3117] that I have bought [7069] all that [was] Elimelech's, [0458] and all that [was] Chilion's [3630] and Mahlon's, [4248] of the hand [3027] of Naomi. [5281]

 Et que je me suis aussi acquis pour femme Ruth, la Moabite, femme de Machlon, pour conserver le nom du défunt dans son héritage, afin que le nom du défunt ne soit point retranché d'entre ses frères, et de la porte de sa ville; vous en êtes témoins aujourd'hui.

 Moreover Ruth [7327] the Moabitess, [4125] the wife [0802] of Mahlon, [4248] have I purchased [7069] to be my wife, [0802] to raise up [6965] the name [8034] of the dead [4191] upon his inheritance, [5159] that the name [8034] of the dead [4191] be not cut off [3772] from among [5973] his brethren, [0251] and from the gate [8179] of his place: [4725] ye [are] witnesses [5707] this day. [3117]

 Et tout le peuple qui était à la porte, et les anciens, dirent: Nous en sommes témoins! YEHOVAH rende la femme qui entre en ta maison, semblable à Rachel et à Léa, qui toutes deux ont bâti la maison d'Israël! Montre ta force en Éphrath, et fais-toi un nom dans Bethléhem!

 And all the people [5971] that [were] in the gate, [8179] and the elders, [2205] said, [0559] [We are] witnesses. [5707] The LORD [3068] make [5414] the woman [0802] that is come [0935] into thine house [1004] like Rachel [7354] and like Leah, [3812] which two [8147] did build [1129] the house [1004] of Israel: [3478] and do [6213] thou worthily [2428] in Ephratah, [0672] and be famous [7121] [8034] in Bethlehem: [1035]

 Que la postérité que YEHOVAH te donnera par cette jeune femme, rende ta maison semblable à la maison de Pharets, que Tamar enfanta à Juda!

 And let thy house [1004] be like the house [1004] of Pharez, [6557] whom Tamar [8559] bare [3205] unto Judah, [3063] of the seed [2233] which the LORD [3068] shall give [5414] thee of this young woman. [5291]

 Ainsi Booz prit Ruth et elle fut sa femme; et il alla vers elle, et YEHOVAH lui fit la grâce de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils;

 So Boaz [1162] took [3947] Ruth, [7327] and she was his wife: [0802] and when he went in [0935] unto her, the LORD [3068] gave [5414] her conception, [2032] and she bare [3205] a son. [1121]

 Et les femmes dirent à Naomi: Béni soit YEHOVAH, qui ne t'a pas laissée manquer aujourd'hui d'un homme qui eût droit de rachat; puisse son nom être conservé en Israël!

 And the women [0802] said [0559] unto Naomi, [5281] Blessed [1288] [be] the LORD, [3068] which hath not left [7673] thee this day [3117] without a kinsman, [1350] that his name [8034] may be famous [7121] in Israel. [3478]

 Qu'il console ton âme, et qu'il soit le soutien de ta vieillesse; car ta belle-fille, qui t'aime, a enfanté, et elle te vaut mieux que sept fils.

 And he shall be unto thee a restorer [7725] of [thy] life, [5315] and a nourisher [3557] of thine old age: [7872] for thy daughter in law, [3618] which loveth [0157] thee, which is better [2896] to thee than seven [7651] sons, [1121] hath born [3205] him.

 Alors Naomi prit l'enfant, et le mit dans son sein, et elle lui tenait lieu de nourrice.

 And Naomi [5281] took [3947] the child, [3206] and laid [7896] it in her bosom, [2436] and became nurse [0539] unto it.

 Et les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, et dirent: Un fils est né à Naomi; et elles l'appelèrent Obed; ce fut le père d'Isaï, père de David.

 And the women her neighbours [7934] gave [7121] it a name, [8034] saying, [0559] There is a son [1121] born [3205] to Naomi; [5281] and they called [7121] his name [8034] Obed: [5744] he [is] the father [0001] of Jesse, [3448] the father [0001] of David. [1732]

 Amminadab fut père de Nahasshon; Nahasshon fut père de Salmon;

 And Amminadab [5992] begat [3205] Nahshon, [5177] and Nahshon [5177] begat [3205] Salmon, [8009]

 Salmon fut père de Booz; Booz fut père d'Obed;

 And Salmon [8012] begat [3205] Boaz, [1162] and Boaz [1162] begat [3205] Obed, [5744]

 Obed fut père d'Isaï, et Isaï fut père de David.

 And Obed [5744] begat [3205] Jesse, [3448] and Jesse [3448] begat [3205] David. [1732]
