La Parole de YEHOVAH, qui fut adressée à Sophonie, fils de Cushi, fils de Guédalia, fils d'Amaria, fils d'Ézéchias, aux jours de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda.

 The word [1697] of the LORD [3068] which came unto Zephaniah [6846] the son [1121] of Cushi, [3569] the son [1121] of Gedaliah, [1436] the son [1121] of Amariah, [0568] the son [1121] of Hizkiah, [2396] in the days [3117] of Josiah [2977] the son [1121] of Amon, [0526] king [4428] of Judah. [3063]

 Je ferai périr entièrement toutes choses sur la face de la terre, dit YEHOVAH.

 I will utterly [0622] consume [5486] all [things] from off [6440] the land, [0127] saith [5002] the LORD. [3068]

 Je ferai périr les hommes et les bêtes; je ferai périr les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer; j'enlèverai les scandales avec les méchants, et je retrancherai les hommes de la face de la terre, dit YEHOVAH.

 I will consume [5486] man [0120] and beast; [0929] I will consume [5486] the fowls [5775] of the heaven, [8064] and the fishes [1709] of the sea, [3220] and the stumblingblocks [4384] with the wicked; [7563] and I will cut off [3772] man [0120] from off [6440] the land, [0127] saith [5002] the LORD. [3068]

 J'étendrai ma main sur Juda et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem; et je retrancherai de ce lieu le reste de Baal, et le nom de ses prêtres avec les sacrificateurs,

 I will also stretch out [5186] mine hand [3027] upon Judah, [3063] and upon all the inhabitants [3427] of Jerusalem; [3389] and I will cut off [3772] the remnant [7605] of Baal [1168] from this place, [4725] [and] the name [8034] of the Chemarims [3649] with the priests; [3548]

 Et ceux qui se prosternent sur les toits devant l'armée des cieux, et ceux qui se prosternent en jurant par YEHOVAH, et qui jurent aussi par Malcham,

 And them that worship [7812] the host [6635] of heaven [8064] upon the housetops; [1406] and them that worship [7812] [and] that swear [7650] by the LORD, [3068] and that swear [7650] by Malcham; [4428]

 Et ceux qui se détournent de YEHOVAH, et ceux qui ne cherchent pas YEHOVAH et ne s'enquièrent pas de lui.

 And them that are turned back [5472] from [0310] the LORD; [3068] and [those] that have not sought [1245] the LORD, [3068] nor enquired [1875] for him.

 Tais-toi devant le Seigneur, YEHOVAH! Car le jour de YEHOVAH est proche; YEHOVAH a préparé un sacrifice, il a sanctifié ses conviés.

 Hold thy peace [2013] at the presence [6440] of the Lord [0136] GOD: [3069] for the day [3117] of the LORD [3068] [is] at hand: [7138] for the LORD [3068] hath prepared [3559] a sacrifice, [2077] he hath bid [6942] his guests. [7121]

 Et au jour du sacrifice de YEHOVAH, je châtierai les princes, et les fils du roi, et tous ceux qui revêtent des vêtements étrangers.

 And it shall come to pass in the day [3117] of the LORD'S [3068] sacrifice, [2077] that I will punish [6485] the princes, [8269] and the king's [4428] children, [1121] and all such as are clothed [3847] with strange [5237] apparel. [4403]

 Et je châtierai, en ce jour-là, tous ceux qui sautent par-dessus le seuil, ceux qui remplissent la maison de leur Seigneur de violence et de fraude.

 In the same day [3117] also will I punish [6485] all those that leap [1801] on the threshold, [4670] which fill [4390] their masters' [0113] houses [1004] with violence [2555] and deceit. [4820]

 En ce jour-là, dit YEHOVAH, on entendra des cris à la porte des Poissons, des hurlements dans la seconde partie de la ville, et un grand désastre sur les collines.

 And it shall come to pass in that day, [3117] saith [5002] the LORD, [3068] [that there shall be] the noise [6963] of a cry [6818] from the fish [1709] gate, [8179] and an howling [3215] from the second, [4932] and a great [1419] crashing [7667] from the hills. [1389]

 Lamentez-vous, habitants de Macthesh! Car tous ceux qui trafiquent sont détruits, tous ces gens chargés d'argent sont exterminés!

 Howl, [3213] ye inhabitants [3427] of Maktesh, [4389] for all the merchant [3667] people [5971] are cut down; [1820] all they that bear [5187] silver [3701] are cut off. [3772]

 Et il arrivera, en ce temps-là, que je fouillerai Jérusalem avec des lampes, et que je châtierai ces hommes qui se figent sur leurs lies, et qui disent dans leur cœur: YEHOVAH ne fera ni bien ni mal.

 And it shall come to pass at that time, [6256] [that] I will search [2664] Jerusalem [3389] with candles, [5216] and punish [6485] the men [0582] that are settled [7087] on their lees: [8105] that say [0559] in their heart, [3824] The LORD [3068] will not do good, [3190] neither will he do evil. [7489]

 Leurs biens seront au pillage, et leurs maisons en désolation; ils auront bâti des maisons, mais ils n'y habiteront point; ils auront planté des vignes, mais ils n'en boiront pas le vin.

 Therefore their goods [2428] shall become a booty, [4933] and their houses [1004] a desolation: [8077] they shall also build [1129] houses, [1004] but not inhabit [3427] [them]; and they shall plant [5193] vineyards, [3754] but not drink [8354] the wine [3196] thereof.

 Le grand jour de YEHOVAH est proche; il est proche, et vient en toute hâte. La voix du jour de YEHOVAH retentit; là l'homme vaillant lui-même pousse des cris amers.

 The great [1419] day [3117] of the LORD [3068] [is] near, [7138] [it is] near, [7138] and hasteth [4118] greatly, [3966] [even] the voice [6963] of the day [3117] of the LORD: [3068] the mighty man [1368] shall cry [6873] there bitterly. [4751]

 C'est un jour de colère que ce jour-là; un jour de détresse et d'angoisse, un jour de ruine et de désolation, un jour de ténèbres et d'obscurité, un jour de nuées et de brouillards,

 That day [3117] [is] a day [3117] of wrath, [5678] a day [3117] of trouble [6869] and distress, [4691] a day [3117] of wasteness [7722] and desolation, [4875] a day [3117] of darkness [2822] and gloominess, [0653] a day [3117] of clouds [6051] and thick darkness, [6205]

 Un jour de trompettes et d'alarmes contre les villes fortes et contre les hautes tours.

 A day [3117] of the trumpet [7782] and alarm [8643] against the fenced [1219] cities, [5892] and against the high [1364] towers. [6438]

 Je mettrai les hommes dans la détresse, et ils marcheront comme des aveugles, parce qu'ils ont péché contre YEHOVAH. Leur sang sera répandu comme de la poussière, et leur chair comme de l'ordure.

 And I will bring distress [6887] upon men, [0120] that they shall walk [1980] like blind [5787] men, because they have sinned [2398] against the LORD: [3068] and their blood [1818] shall be poured out [8210] as dust, [6083] and their flesh [3894] as the dung. [1561]

 Ni leur argent, ni leur or ne pourront les délivrer au jour de la colère de YEHOVAH; et par le feu de sa jalousie tout le pays sera consumé; car c'est d'une entière destruction, c'est d'une ruine soudaine qu'il frappera tous les habitants de la terre.

 Neither their silver [3701] nor their gold [2091] shall be able [3201] to deliver [5337] them in the day [3117] of the LORD'S [3068] wrath; [5678] but the whole land [0776] shall be devoured [0398] by the fire [0784] of his jealousy: [7068] for he shall make [6213] even a speedy [0926] riddance [3617] of all them that dwell [3427] in the land.  Recueillez-vous, recueillez-vous, nation sans pudeur!

 Gather yourselves together, [7197] yea, gather together, [7197] O nation [1471] not desired; [3700]

 Avant que le décret enfante, et que le jour passe comme la balle; avant que l'ardeur de la colère de YEHOVAH vienne sur vous, avant que le jour de la colère de YEHOVAH vienne sur vous!

 Before the decree [2706] bring forth, [3205] [before] the day [3117] pass [5674] as the chaff, [4671] before [3808] the fierce [2740] anger [0639] of the LORD [3068] come [0935] upon you, before [3808] the day [3117] of the LORD'S [3068] anger [0639] come [0935] upon you.

 Cherchez YEHOVAH, vous tous les humbles du pays, qui faites ce qu'il ordonne! Recherchez la justice, recherchez l'humilité! Peut-être serez-vous mis à couvert, au jour de la colère de YEHOVAH.

 Seek [1245] ye the LORD, [3068] all ye meek [6035] of the earth, [0776] which have wrought [6466] his judgment; [4941] seek [1245] righteousness, [6664] seek [1245] meekness: [6038] it may be [0194] ye shall be hid [5641] in the day [3117] of the LORD'S [3068] anger. [0639]

 Car Gaza sera abandonnée, et Askélon sera en désolation; on chassera Asdod en plein midi, et Ékron sera renversée.

 For Gaza [5804] shall be forsaken, [5800] and Ashkelon [0831] a desolation: [8077] they shall drive out [1644] Ashdod [0795] at the noon day, [6672] and Ekron [6138] shall be rooted up. [6131]

 Malheur aux habitants de la région maritime, à la nation des Kéréthiens! La Parole de YEHOVAH est contre vous, Canaan, terre des Philistins! Je te détruirai, jusqu'à n'avoir plus d'habitants.

 Woe [1945] unto the inhabitants [3427] of the sea [3220] coast, [2256] the nation [1471] of the Cherethites! [3774] the word [1697] of the LORD [3068] [is] against you; O Canaan, [3667] the land [0776] of the Philistines, [6430] I will even destroy [0006] thee, that there shall be no inhabitant. [3427]

 Et la région maritime ne sera plus que des pâturages, des loges de bergers et des parcs de brebis.

 And the sea [3220] coast [2256] shall be dwellings [5116] [and] cottages [3741] for shepherds, [7462] and folds [1448] for flocks. [6629]

 Et ce sera une région pour les restes de la maison de Juda, et ils y paîtront; le soir ils reposeront dans les maisons d'Askélon, car YEHOVAH leur Dieu les visitera, et ramènera leurs captifs.

 And the coast [2256] shall be for the remnant [7611] of the house [1004] of Judah; [3063] they shall feed [7462] thereupon: in the houses [1004] of Ashkelon [0831] shall they lie down [7257] in the evening: [6153] for the LORD [3068] their God [0430] shall visit [6485] them, and turn away [7725] their captivity.  J'ai entendu les insultes de Moab et les outrages des enfants d'Ammon, qui ont insulté mon peuple, et se sont insolemment élevés contre ses frontières.

 I have heard [8085] the reproach [2781] of Moab, [4124] and the revilings [1421] of the children [1121] of Ammon, [5983] whereby they have reproached [2778] my people, [5971] and magnified [1431] [themselves] against their border. [1366]

 C'est pourquoi, JE SUIS vivant! dit YEHOVAH des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, Moab sera comme Sodome, et les enfants d'Ammon comme Gomorrhe, un domaine couvert d'orties, une mine de sel, une désolation à jamais; le reste de mon peuple les pillera, et le résidu de ma nation les possédera.

 Therefore [as] I live, [2416] saith [5002] the LORD [3068] of hosts, [6635] the God [0430] of Israel, [3478] Surely Moab [4124] shall be as Sodom, [5467] and the children [1121] of Ammon [5983] as Gomorrah, [6017] [even] the breeding [4476] of nettles, [2738] and saltpits, [4379] [4417] and a perpetual [5704] [5769] desolation: [8077] the residue [7611] of my people [5971] shall spoil [0962] them, and the remnant [3499] of my people [1471] shall possess [5157] them.

 C'est là ce qu'ils auront pour leur orgueil, parce qu'ils ont insulté et bravé le peuple de YEHOVAH des armées.

 This shall they have for their pride, [1347] because they have reproached [2778] and magnified [1431] [themselves] against the people [5971] of the LORD [3068] of hosts. [6635]

 YEHOVAH sera terrible contre eux; car il anéantira tous les dieux de la terre, et chacun se prosternera devant lui dans son pays, et même toutes les îles des nations.

 The LORD [3068] [will be] terrible [3372] unto them: for he will famish [7329] all the gods [0430] of the earth; [0776] and [men] shall worship [7812] him, every one [0376] from his place, [4725] [even] all the isles [0339] of the heathen. [1471]

 Vous aussi, Cushites, vous serez frappés par mon Épée.

 Ye Ethiopians [3569] also, ye [1992] [shall be] slain [2491] by my sword. [2719]

 Il étendra sa main vers le nord, et il détruira l'Assyrie; il fera de Ninive une désolation, un lieu aride comme le désert.

 And he will stretch out [5186] his hand [3027] against the north, [6828] and destroy [0006] Assyria; [0804] and will make [7760] Nineveh [5210] a desolation, [8077] [and] dry [6723] like a wilderness. [4057]

 Les troupeaux se coucheront au milieu d'elle, des bêtes de toute espèce, en foule; le pélican et le hérisson logeront parmi ses chapiteaux; leur cri retentira aux fenêtres; la dévastation sera sur le seuil, et les lambris de cèdre seront arrachés.

 And flocks [5739] shall lie down [7257] in the midst [8432] of her, all the beasts [2416] of the nations: [1471] both the cormorant [6893] and the bittern [7090] shall lodge [3885] in the upper lintels [3730] of it; [their] voice [6963] shall sing [7891] in the windows; [2474] desolation [2721] [shall be] in the thresholds: [5592] for he shall uncover [6168] the cedar work. [0731]

 C'est là cette ville joyeuse qui vivait dans la sécurité, qui disait en son cœur: Moi, et nulle autre que moi! Comment est-elle devenue un désert, un gîte pour les bêtes? Quiconque passera près d'elle, se moquera et agitera la main

 This [is] the rejoicing [5947] city [5892] that dwelt [3427] carelessly, [0983] that said [0559] in her heart, [3824] I [am], and [there is] none [0657] beside me: [5750] how is she become a desolation, [8047] a place for beasts [2416] to lie down in! [4769] every one that passeth by [5674] her shall hiss, [8319] [and] wag [5128] his hand. [3027]

 Malheur à la ville rebelle et souillée, à la ville qui opprime!

 Woe [1945] to her that is filthy [4754] and polluted, [1351] to the oppressing [3238] city! [5892]

 Elle n'a point écouté la voix, elle n'a point reçu l'instruction, elle ne s'est point confiée en YEHOVAH, elle ne s'est point approchée de son Dieu.

 She obeyed [8085] not the voice; [6963] she received [3947] not correction; [4148] she trusted [0982] not in the LORD; [3068] she drew not near [7126] to her God. [0430]

 Ses chefs, au milieu d'elle, sont des lions rugissants; ses juges, des loups du soir, qui ne réservent rien pour le matin.

 Her princes [8269] within [7130] her [are] roaring [7580] lions; [0738] her judges [8199] [are] evening [6153] wolves; [2061] they gnaw not the bones [1633] till the morrow. [1242]

 Ses prophètes sont des téméraires et des hommes perfides; ses sacrificateurs profanent les choses saintes; ils violent la loi.

 Her prophets [5030] [are] light [6348] [and] treacherous [0900] persons: [0582] her priests [3548] have polluted [2490] the sanctuary, [6944] they have done violence [2554] to the law. [8451]

 YEHOVAH est juste au milieu d'elle. Il ne commet point d'iniquité; chaque matin il met en lumière ses jugements, il n'y manque pas; mais l'injuste ne connaît pas la honte.

 The just [6662] LORD [3068] [is] in the midst [7130] thereof; he will not do [6213] iniquity: [5766] every morning [1242] [1242] doth he bring [5414] his judgment [4941] to light, [0216] he faileth [5737] not; but the unjust [5767] knoweth [3045] no shame. [1322]

 J'ai exterminé des nations; leurs tours sont en ruines; j'ai dévasté leurs rues, tellement que personne n'y passe; leurs villes ont été détruites, dépeuplées jusqu'à n'avoir plus aucun habitant.

 I have cut off [3772] the nations: [1471] their towers [6438] are desolate; [8074] I made their streets [2351] waste, [2717] that none passeth by: [5674] their cities [5892] are destroyed, [6658] so that there is no man, [0376] that there is none inhabitant. [3427]

 Je disais: Crains-moi seulement, reçois l'instruction, et ta demeure ne sera pas détruite, ce que j'avais ordonné contre elle! Mais ils se sont hâtés de corrompre toutes leurs actions.

 I said, [0559] Surely thou wilt fear [3372] me, thou wilt receive [3947] instruction; [4148] so their dwelling [4583] should not be cut off, [3772] howsoever [0834] [3605] I punished [6485] them: but [0403] they rose early, [7925] [and] corrupted [7843] all their doings. [5949]

 C'est pourquoi attendez-moi, dit YEHOVAH, au jour où je me lèverai pour le butin. Car j'ai résolu de rassembler les nations et de réunir les royaumes, pour répandre sur eux mon indignation, toute l'ardeur de ma colère; car toute la terre sera dévorée par le feu de ma jalousie.

 Therefore wait [2442] ye upon me, saith [5002] the LORD, [3068] until the day [3117] that I rise up [6965] to the prey: [5706] for my determination [4941] [is] to gather [0622] the nations, [1471] that I may assemble [6908] the kingdoms, [4467] to pour [8210] upon them mine indignation, [2195] [even] all my fierce [2740] anger: [0639] for all the earth [0776] shall be devoured [0398] with the fire [0784] of my jealousy. [7068]

 Alors je changerai les lèvres des peuples en des lèvres pures, afin qu'ils invoquent tous le nom de YEHOVAH, pour qu'ils le servent d'un commun accord.

 For then will I turn [2015] to the people [5971] a pure [1305] language, [8193] that they may all call [7121] upon the name [8034] of the LORD, [3068] to serve [5647] him with one [0259] consent. [7926]

 D'au delà des fleuves de Cush, mes adorateurs, la fille de mes dispersés, m'apporteront des offrandes.

 From beyond [5676] the rivers [5104] of Ethiopia [3568] my suppliants, [6282] [even] the daughter [1323] of my dispersed, [6327] shall bring [2986] mine offering. [4503]

 En ce jour-là, tu ne seras plus confuse à cause de toutes les actions par lesquelles tu as péché contre moi. Car alors j'ôterai du milieu de toi ceux qui se réjouissent de ton orgueil; et tu ne continueras plus à t'enorgueillir sur la montagne de ma sainteté.

 In that day [3117] shalt thou not be ashamed [0954] for all thy doings, [5949] wherein thou hast transgressed [6586] against me: for then I will take away [5493] out of the midst [7130] of thee them that rejoice [5947] in thy pride, [1346] and thou shalt no more [3254] be haughty [1361] because of my holy [6944] mountain. [2022]

 Et je laisserai au milieu de toi un peuple humble et faible, et il mettra sa confiance dans le nom de YEHOVAH.

 I will also leave [7604] in the midst [7130] of thee an afflicted [6041] and poor [1800] people, [5971] and they shall trust [2620] in the name [8034] of the LORD. [3068]

 Les restes d'Israël ne commettront point d'iniquité; ils ne proféreront point de mensonge, et il ne se trouvera pas dans leur bouche une langue trompeuse; mais ils paîtront, et ils se reposeront, et il n'y aura personne qui les épouvante.

 The remnant [7611] of Israel [3478] shall not do [6213] iniquity, [5766] nor speak [1696] lies; [3577] neither shall a deceitful [8649] tongue [3956] be found [4672] in their mouth: [6310] for they shall feed [7462] and lie down, [7257] and none shall make [them] afraid. [2729]

 Chante de joie, fille de Sion! Pousse des cris d'allégresse, Israël! Réjouis-toi et t'égaie de tout ton cœur, fille de Jérusalem!

 Sing, [7442] O daughter [1323] of Zion; [6726] shout, [7321] O Israel; [3478] be glad [8055] and rejoice [5937] with all the heart, [3820] O daughter [1323] of Jerusalem. [3389]

 YEHOVAH a retiré les sentences portées contre toi, il a éloigné ton ennemi; LE ROI D'ISRAËL, L'ÉTERNEL est au milieu de toi; tu ne verras plus de malheur.

 The LORD [3068] hath taken away [5493] thy judgments, [4941] he hath cast out [6437] thine enemy: [0341] the king [4428] of Israel, [3478] [even] the LORD, [3068] [is] in the midst [7130] of thee: thou shalt not see [7200] evil [7451] any more.

 En ce jour-là, on dira à Jérusalem: Ne crains point! Sion, que tes mains ne défaillent point!

 In that day [3117] it shall be said [0559] to Jerusalem, [3389] Fear [3372] thou not: [and to] Zion, [6726] Let not thine hands [3027] be slack. [7503]

 YEHOVAH ton Dieu est au milieu de toi, un héros qui sauve. Il se réjouira à cause de toi d'une grande joie; il se taira dans son amour; il se réjouira à ton sujet avec chant de triomphe.

 The LORD [3068] thy God [0430] in the midst [7130] of thee [is] mighty; [1368] he will save, [3467] he will rejoice [7797] over thee with joy; [8057] he will rest [2790] in his love, [0160] he will joy [1523] over thee with singing. [7440]

 Je rassemblerai ceux qui sont tristes, loin de l'assemblée solennelle; ils sont sortis de toi; sur eux pèse l'opprobre.

 I will gather [0622] [them that are] sorrowful [3013] for the solemn assembly, [4150] [who] are of thee, [to whom] the reproach [2781] of it [was] a burden. [4864]

 Voici, en ce temps-là, j'aurai à faire avec tous tes oppresseurs. Je délivrerai ce qui boite, je recueillerai ce qui a été chassé, et j'en ferai un sujet de louange et d'honneur dans tous les pays où ils ont eu de la honte.

 Behold, at that time [6256] I will undo [6213] all that afflict [6031] thee: and I will save [3467] her that halteth, [6760] and gather [6908] her that was driven out; [5080] and I will get [7760] them praise [8416] and fame [8034] in every land [0776] where they have been put to shame. [1322]

 En ce temps-là, je vous ramènerai; en ce temps-là, je vous rassemblerai; car je vous mettrai en renom et en louange parmi tous les peuples de la terre, quand je ramènerai vos captifs sous vos yeux, a dit YEHOVAH.

 At that time [6256] will I bring [0935] you [again], even in the time [6256] that I gather [6908] you: for I will make [5414] you a name [8034] and a praise [8416] among all people [5971] of the earth, [0776] when I turn back [7725] your captivity [7622] before your eyes, [5869] saith [0559] the LORD. [3068]
