Bacchus was looked upon in the Eleusinian mysteries as a child,
and as such he is described as the son of Demeter and Zeus, and
as the brother of Cora, that is, the male Cora or Corus.

- Iambe, daughter of Pan and Echo, and a slave of Metaneira, the wife of
Hippothoon. Others call her a slave

Demeter in Attica was traced to her for it is said that when
Demeter, in her wanderings in search
of her daughter, arrived in Attica, Iambe cheered the mournful

- Iamus, a son of Apollo and Evadne,
was initiated in the art of prophecy by his father, and was
regarded as the ancestor of the famous family of seers, the
Lamidae at Olympia. Greek
- Iao, 'serpent-faced' Archon. Gnostic
- Iapetos. The father of Atlas and ancestor of the human race,
called genus Iapeti, the progeny of Iapetus. By many considered
the same as Japheth, one of the sons of Noah. Greek
- Iapis or Iapyx, was a son of Iasus, and a favourite of
Apollo, who wanted to confer upon him the gift of prophecy and
the lyre, but Iapis, wishing to prolong the life of his father,
preferred the more tranquil art of healing to all the others. He
also cured Aeneas of the wound he had received in the war against

- Iasonia or Latrovia, a surname of

- Ibath, one of the two sons of Magog, one of the ancestors of
the Irish
- Ireland
- Ibis or Nile—bird. The Egyptians call the sacred Ibis
Father John. It is the avatar' of the god Thoth, who in the
guise of an Ibis escaped the pursuit of Typhon. The Egyptians say its white plumage
symbolises the light of the sun, and its black neck the shadow of
the moon, its body a heart, and its legs a triangle. It was said
to drink only the purest of water, and its feathers to scare or

- Iblis or Eblis. The Lucifer of Moslem theology. Once called
Azazel (prince of the apostate angels). He has five sons:

(2) Awar, the demon of lubricity;

(5) Zalambûr, author of mercantile dishonesty.
- Ibmel. A sky god and a general name for various gods.

- Ibofanga, aka Hisagita-Imisi, Hisagitaimisi. The Master of
Breath, created the world and all other things. The Creek,

- Icarius, also called Icarus and
Icarion. An Athenian, who lived in the reign of Pandion, and
hospitably received Dionysus on his arrival in Attica. The god
showed him his gratitude by teaching him the cultivation of the
vine, and giving him bags filled with wine. Icarius now rode
about in a chariot, and distributed the precious gifts of the
god; but some shepherds whom their friends intoxicated with wine,
and who thought that they were poisoned by Icarius, slew him, and
threw his body into the well Anygrus, or buried it under a tree.

- Ice Giants. Similar to the Jotuns of Norse mythology, the Ice
Giants are apparently necessary for the Apocralypse. When this
came close to occurring during the events of Sourcery, the Ice
Giants, described as huge beings made of ice with tiny, coal-like
eyes and riding tame glaciers, hurtled down towards the civilised

- Ichpuchtli, the ruler of love, marriage, flowers, art, music,
women, magic, spinning, fertility, sex, weaving, and changes.
Ichpuchtli is also the Goddess of Sacred Prostitutes, and

- Ichthyocentaurus. A fish-centaur,
or a particular kind of Triton.
Ichthyocentauri were fabulous beings, the upper part of whose
body was conceived to have a human form, and the lower that of a
fish, while the place of the hands was occupied by a horse's

- Ictinike, the 'father of lies' who was expelled from
heaven for deceit and trickery. Sioux
- Ida, of the earth, abundant food, and nourishment. She is
also the granter of any blessings evoked through her. Hindu
- Idæ'an Mother. Cybele, who had a temple on Mount

- Idavold. A plain where the gods first assemble, where they
establish their heavenly abodes, and where they assemble again

Chryse, and brother of Deimas, went with his father from
Peloponnesus, by way of Samothrace, to Phrygia, and settled on
the mountains of Phrygia, which derived from him the name of Ida,

- Imra, the chief pre-Islamic god of the Hindukush Kafir
people. He was worshipped as the god of creation. By his breath,
Imra created other gods of Kafir pantheon. Frequent sacrifiices
were made to Imra, sometimes for recovery from sickness,
seasonable weather, or other material benefits, sometimes from
motives of simple piety. Imra was more honored than the other

- Inanna, Inana, the original "Holy Virgin," as the
Sumerians called her, is the first known divinity associated with
the planet Venus. This Sumerian goddess became identified with
the Semitic goddesses Ishtar and later Astarte, Egyptian Isis,

daughter of the giant Pallas and

- Invisible Pink Unicorn, the goddess of a satiric parody
religion aimed at theistic beliefs, which takes the form of a
unicorn that is paradoxically both invisible and pink. These
attributes serve to satirize the apparent contradictions in
properties which some attribute to a theistic God.

On-line culture
- Inyan, the first of the superior Gods. Uncreated and existing
before time, he created Maka and gave it the Earth Goddess
Maka-akan, the second of the superior Gods and a part of Inyan.
Creating Maka required all of Inyan's blood, which was blue,
to form a great disk, beyond which there was nothing. This effort
made Inyan hard and powerless. His blood became the blue waters
and the sky, and Nagi Tanka (Sky God), the Great Spirit who is
all powerful and called Skan (Most Holy), the third superior God.

- Iormungandur, Iormungandr. The Midgard serpent. The serpent

- Ioskeha, Creator of the first man and woman Iroquois
- Ipalnemohuani, 'he by whom the people live'. The

- Iphicles' Oxen. Iphiclos or Iphicles was the possessor of large herds of
oxen, and Neleus promised to give his
daughter in marriage to Bias if he would
bring him the oxen of Iphicles, which were guarded by a very
fierce dog. Melampos contrived to
obtain the oxen for his brother, but being caught in the act, he
was cast into prison. Melampos afterwards told Astyocha, wife of
Iphicles, how to become the mother of children, whereupon
Iphicles gave him the coveted herd, and his brother married the
daughter of Neleus. The secret told by Melampos to Astyocha was
“to steep the rust of iron in wine for ten days, and drink
it.” This she did, and became the mother of eight
sons.

most common tradition, a daughter of Agamemnon and Clytaemnestra
but, according to others, a daughter of Theseus and Helena, and
brought up by Clytaemnestra only as a foster-child. Agamemnon had
once killed a stag in the grove of Artemis, or had boasted that

another story, in the year in which Iphigeneia was born, he had
vowed to sacrifice the most beautiful thing which that year might
produce, but had afterwards neglected to fulfil his
