Proverbs 25

KJV

1  These428 are also1571 proverbs4912 of Solomon,8010 which834 the men376 of Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah3063 copied out.6275

2  It is the glory3519 of God430 to conceal5641 a thing:1697 but the honor3519 of kings4428 is to search out2713 a matter.1697

3  The heaven8064 for height,7312 and the earth776 for depth,6011 and the heart3820 of kings4428 is unsearchable.369 2714

4  Take away1898 the dross5509 from the silver,4480 3701 and there shall come forth3318 a vessel3627 for the refiner.6884

5  Take away1898 the wicked7563 from before6440 the king,4428 and his throne3678 shall be established3559 in righteousness.6664

6  Put not forth thyself408 1921 in the presence6440 of the king,4428 and stand5975 not408 in the place4725 of great1419 men:

7  For3588 better2896 it is that it be said559 unto thee, Come up5927 hither;2008 than that thou shouldest be put lower4480 8213 in the presence6440 of the prince5081 whom834 thine eyes5869 have seen.7200

8  Go not forth3318 408 hastily4118 to strive,7378 lest6435 thou know not what4100 to do6213 in the end319 thereof, when thy neighbor7453 hath put thee to shame.3637 853

9  Debate7378 thy cause7379 with854 thy neighbor7453 himself; and discover1540 not408 a secret5475 to another:312

10  Lest6435 he that heareth8085 it put thee to shame,2616 and thine infamy1681 turn not away.3808 7725

11  A word1697 fitly5921 655 spoken1696 is like apples8598 of gold2091 in pictures4906 of silver.3701

12  As an earring5141 of gold,2091 and an ornament2481 of fine gold,3800 so is a wise2450 reprover3198 upon5921 an obedient8085 ear.241

13  As the cold6793 of snow7950 in the time3117 of harvest,7105 so is a faithful539 messenger6735 to them that send7971 him: for he refresheth7725 the soul5315 of his masters.113

14  Whoso376 boasteth himself1984 of a false8267 gift4991 is like clouds5387 and wind7307 without369 rain.1653

15  By long753 forbearing639 is a prince7101 persuaded,6601 and a soft7390 tongue3956 breaketh7665 the bone.1634

16  Hast thou found4672 honey?1706 eat398 so much as is sufficient1767 for thee, lest6435 thou be filled7646 therewith, and vomit6958 it.

17  Withdraw3365 thy foot7272 from thy neighbor's7453 house;4480 1004 lest6435 he be weary7646 of thee, and so hate8130 thee.

18  A man376 that beareth6030 false8267 witness5707 against his neighbor7453 is a maul,4650 and a sword,2719 and a sharp8150 arrow.2671

19  Confidence4009 in an unfaithful man898 in time3117 of trouble6869 is like a broken7465 tooth,8127 and a foot7272 out of joint.4154

20  As he that taketh away5710 a garment899 in cold7135 weather,3117 and as vinegar2558 upon5921 niter,5427 so is he that singeth7891 songs7892 to5921 a heavy7451 heart.3820

21  If518 thine enemy8130 be hungry,7457 give him bread3899 to eat;398 and if518 he be thirsty,6771 give him water4325 to drink:8248

22  For3588 thou859 shalt heap2846 coals of fire1513 upon5921 his head,7218 and the LORD3068 shall reward7999 thee.

23  The north6828 wind7307 driveth away2342 rain:1653 so doth an angry2194 countenance6440 a backbiting5643 tongue.3956

24  It is better2896 to dwell3427 in5921 the corner6438 of the housetop,1406 than with a brawling woman4480 802 4079 and in a wide2267 house.1004

25  As cold7119 waters4325 to5921 a thirsty5889 soul,5315 so is good2896 news8052 from a far country.4480 776 4801

26  A righteous6662 man falling down4131 before6440 the wicked7563 is as a troubled7515 fountain,4599 and a corrupt7843 spring.4726

27  It is not3808 good2896 to eat398 much7235 honey:1706 so for men to search2714 their own glory3519 is not glory.3519

28  He376 that834 hath no369 rule over4623 his own spirit7307 is like a city5892 that is broken down,6555 and without369 walls.2346

Vul

8 [Quæ viderunt oculi tui ne proferas in jurgio cito,
ne postea emendare non possis,
cum dehonestaveris amicum tuum.

9 Causam tuam tracta cum amico tuo,
et secretum extraneo ne reveles:

10 ne forte insultet tibi cum audierit,
et exprobrare non cesset.
Gratia et amicitia liberant:
quas tibi serva, ne exprobrabilis fias.

11 Mala aurea in lectis argenteis,
qui loquitur verbum in tempore suo.

12 Inauris aurea, et margaritum fulgens,
qui arguit sapientem et aurem obedientem.

13 Sicut frigus nivis in die messis,
ita legatus fidelis ei qui misit eum:
animam ipsius requiescere facit.

14 Nubes, et ventus, et pluviæ non sequentes,
vir gloriosus et promissa non complens.

15 Patientia lenietur princeps,
et lingua mollis confringet duritiam.]

16 [Mel invenisti: comede quod sufficit tibi,
ne forte satiatus evomas illud.

17 Subtrahe pedem tuum de domo proximi tui,
nequando satiatus oderit te.

18 Jaculum, et gladius, et sagitta acuta,
homo qui loquitur contra proximum suum falsum testimonium.

19 Dens putridus, et pes lassus,
qui sperat super infideli in die angustiæ,

20 et amittit pallium in die frigoris.
Acetum in nitro,
qui cantat carmina cordi pessimo.
Sicut tinea vestimento, et vermis ligno,
ita tristitia viri nocet cordi.

21 Si esurierit inimicus tuus, ciba illum;
si sitierit, da ei aquam bibere:

22 prunas enim congregabis super caput ejus,
et Dominus reddet tibi.

23 Ventus aquilo dissipat pluvias,

justus cadens coram impio.

27 Sicut qui mel multum comedit non est ei bonum,
sic qui scrutator est majestatis opprimetur a gloria.

28 Sicut urbs patens et absque murorum ambitu,
ita vir qui non potest in loquendo cohibere spiritum suum.]
