Chapître 12

1

 Ephraim feedeth⁶ on wind, and followeth⁶ after the east wind: he daily increaseth⁵⁵ lies and desolation; and they do make⁴ a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried⁹³ into Egypt.

The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish² Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense⁵⁵ him.

He took his brother by the heel¹ in the womb, and by his strength he had power¹ with God:

Yea, he had power⁴ over the angel, and prevailed:⁴ he wept,¹ and made supplication¹⁰¹ unto him: he found⁴ him [in] Bethel, and there he spake¹⁷ with us;

Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD [is] his memorial.

6

Therefore turn⁴ thou to thy God: keep³ mercy and judgment, and wait¹⁶ on thy God continually.

7

[He is] a merchant, the balances of deceit [are] in his hand: he loveth¹ to oppress.²

8

And Ephraim said,⁴ Yet I am become rich,¹ I have found¹ me out substance: [in] all my labours they shall find⁴ none iniquity in me that [were] sin.

9

And I [that am] the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell⁵⁵ in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

10

I have also spoken¹⁴ by the prophets, and I have multiplied⁵² visions, and used similitudes,¹⁷ by the ministry of the prophets.

[Is there] iniquity [in] Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice¹⁴ bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars [are] as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

And Jacob fled⁴ into the country of Syria, and Israel served⁴ for a wife, and for a wife he kept¹ [sheep].

13

And by a prophet the LORD brought⁵² Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.⁸

14

 Ephraim provoked [him] to anger⁵² most bitterly: therefore shall he leave⁴ his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return⁵⁵ unto him.
