Hebrews 11

GNT

1  Now1161 faith4102 is2076 the substance5287 of things hoped for,1679 the evidence1650 of things4229 not3756 seen.991

2  For1063 by1722 it5026 the3588 elders4245 obtained a good report.3140

3  Through faith4102 we understand3539 that the3588 worlds165 were framed2675 by the word4487 of God,2316 so that things which are seen991 were not3361 made1096 of1537 things which do appear.5316

4  By faith4102 Abel6 offered4374 unto God2316 a more excellent4119 sacrifice2378 than3844 Cain,2535 by1223 which3739 he obtained witness3140 that he was1511 righteous,1342 God2316 testifying3140 of1909 his846 gifts:1435 and2532 by1223 it846 he being dead599 yet2089 speaketh.2980

5  By faith4102 Enoch1802 was translated3346 that he should not3361 see1492 death;2288 and2532 was not3756 found,2147 because1360 God2316 had translated3346 him:846 for1063 before4253 his846 translation3331 he had this testimony,3140 that he pleased2100 God.2316

6  But1161 without5565 faith4102 it is impossible102 to please2100 him: for1063 he that cometh4334 to God2316 must1163 believe4100 that3754 he is,2076 and2532 that he is1096 a rewarder3406 of them that diligently seek1567 him.846

7  By faith4102 Noah,3575 being warned of God5537 of4012 things not seen as yet,3369 991 moved with fear,2125 prepared2680 an ark2787 to the saving1519 4991 of his848 house;3624 by1223 the which3739 he condemned2632 the3588 world,2889 and2532 became1096 heir2818 of the3588 righteousness1343 which is by2596 faith.4102

8  By faith4102 Abraham,11 when he was called2564 to go out1831 into1519 a place5117 which3739 he should after3195 receive2983 for1519 an inheritance,2817 obeyed;5219 and2532 he went out,1831 not3361 knowing1987 whither4226 he went.2064

9  By faith4102 he sojourned3939 in1519 the3588 land1093 of promise,1860 as in5613 a strange country,245 dwelling2730 in1722 tabernacles4633 with3326 Isaac2464 and2532 Jacob,2384 the3588 heirs with him4789 of the3588 same846 promise:1860

10  For1063 he looked for1551 a city4172 which hath2192 foundations,2310 whose3739 builder5079 and2532 maker1217 is God.2316

11  Through faith4102 also2532 Sarah4564 herself846 received2983 strength1411 to1519 conceive2602 seed,4690 and2532 was delivered of a child5088 when she was past age,3844 2244 2540 because1893 she judged2233 him faithful4103 who had promised.1861

12  Therefore1352 sprang1080 there even2532 of575 one,1520 and2532 him5023 as good as dead,3499 so many as2531 the3588 stars798 of the3588 sky3772 in multitude,4128 and2532 as5616 the sand285 which3588 is by3844 the3588 sea shore5491 2281 innumerable.382

13  These3778 all3956 died599 in2596 faith,4102 not3361 having received2983 the3588 promises,1860 but235 having seen1492 them846 afar off,4207 and2532 were persuaded3982 of them, and2532 embraced782 them, and2532 confessed3670 that3754 they were1526 strangers3581 and2532 pilgrims3927 on1909 the3588 earth.1093

14  For1063 they that say3004 such things5108 declare plainly1718 that3754 they seek1934 a country.3968

15  And2532 truly,3303 if1487 they had been mindful3421 of that1565 country from575 whence3739 they came out,1831 they might have had2192 302 opportunity2540 to have returned.344

16  But1161 now3570 they desire3713 a better2909 country, that is,5123 a heavenly:2032 wherefore1352 God2316 is not3756 ashamed1870 to be called1941 their846 God:2316 for1063 he hath prepared2090 for them846 a city.4172

17  By faith4102 Abraham,11 when he was tried,3985 offered up4374 Isaac:2464 and2532 he that had received324 the3588 promises1860 offered up4374 his only begotten3439 son,

18  Of4314 whom3739 it was said,2980 That3754 in1722 Isaac2464 shall thy4671 seed4690 be called:2564

19  Accounting3049 that3754 God2316 was able1415 to raise him up,1453 even2532 from1537 the dead;3498 from whence3606 also2532 he received2865 him846 in1722 a figure.3850

20  By faith4102 Isaac2464 blessed2127 Jacob2384 and2532 Esau2269 concerning4012 things to come.3195

21  By faith4102 Jacob,2384 when he was a dying,599 blessed2127 both1538 the3588 sons5207 of Joseph;2501 and2532 worshiped,4352 leaning upon1909 the3588 top206 of his848 staff.4464

22  By faith4102 Joseph,2501 when he died,5053 made mention3421 of4012 the3588 departing1841 of the3588 children5207 of Israel;2474 and2532 gave commandment1781 concerning4012 his848 bones.3747

23  By faith4102 Moses,3475 when he was born,1080 was hid2928 three months5150 of5259 his848 parents,3962 because1360 they saw1492 he was a proper791 child;3813 and2532 they were not afraid5399 3756 of the3588 king's935 commandment.1297

24  By faith4102 Moses,3475 when he was come to years,1096 3173 refused720 to be called3004 the son5207 of Pharaoh's5328 daughter;2364

25  Choosing138 rather3123 to suffer affliction with4778 the3588 people2992 of God,2316 than2228 to enjoy the pleasures2192 619 of sin266 for a season;4340

26  Esteeming2233 the3588 reproach3680 of Christ5547 greater3187 riches4149 than the3588 treasures2344 in1722 Egypt:125 for1063 he had respect578 unto1519 the3588 recompense of the reward.3405

27  By faith4102 he forsook2641 Egypt,125 not3361 fearing5399 the3588 wrath2372 of the3588 king:935 for1063 he endured,2594 as5613 seeing3708 him who is invisible.517

28  Through faith4102 he kept4160 the3588 passover,3957 and2532 the3588 sprinkling4378 of blood,129 lest3363 he that destroyed3645 the3588 firstborn4416 should touch2345 them.846

29  By faith4102 they passed through1224 the3588 Red2063 sea2281 as5613 by1223 dry3584 land: which3739 the3588 Egyptians124 attempting to do2983 3984 were drowned.2666

30  By faith4102 the3588 walls5038 of Jericho2410 fell down,4098 after they were compassed about2944 1909 seven2033 days.2250

31  By faith4102 the3588 harlot4204 Rahab4460 perished4881 not3756 with them that believed not,544 when she had received1209 the3588 spies2685 with3326 peace.1515

32  And2532 what5101 shall I more2089 say?3004 for1063 the3588 time5550 would fail1952 me3165 to tell1334 of4012 Gideon,1066 and5037 of Barak,913 and2532 of Samson,4546 and2532 of Jephthah;2422 of David1138 also,5037 and2532 Samuel,4545 and2532 of the3588 prophets:4396

33  Who3739 through1223 faith4102 subdued2610 kingdoms,932 wrought2038 righteousness,1343 obtained2013 promises,1860 stopped5420 the mouths4750 of lions,3023

34  Quenched4570 the violence1411 of fire,4442 escaped5343 the edge4750 of the sword,3162 out of575 weakness769 were made strong,1743 waxed1096 valiant2478 in1722 fight,4171 turned to flight2827 the armies3925 of the aliens.245

35  Women1135 received2983 their848 dead3498 raised to life again:1537 386 and1161 others243 were tortured,5178 not3756 accepting4327 deliverance;629 that2443 they might obtain5177 a better2909 resurrection:386

36  And1161 others2087 had2983 trial3984 of cruel mockings1701 and2532 scourgings,3148 yea,1161 moreover2089 of bonds1199 and2532 imprisonment:5438

37  They were stoned,3034 they were sawn asunder,4249 were tempted,3985 were slain599 with1722 the5408 sword:3162 they wandered about4022 in1722 sheepskins3374 and2532 goatskins;122 1192 being destitute,5302 afflicted,2346 tormented;2558

38  (Of whom3739 the3588 world2889 was2258 not3756 worthy:) they514 wandered4105 in1722 deserts,2047 and2532 in mountains,3735 and2532 in dens4693 and2532 caves3692 of the3588 earth.1093

39  And2532 these3778 all,3956 having obtained a good report3140 through1223 faith,4102 received2865 not3756 the3588 promise:1860

40  God2316 having provided4265 some5100 better thing2909 for4012 us,2257 that2443 they without5565 us2257 should not3361 be made perfect.5048

30 Fide muri Jericho corruerunt, circuitu dierum septem.
