1 παρακαλῶ οὗν ὑμᾶς ἐγὼ ὁ δέσμιος ἐν κυρίῳ ἀξίως περιπατῆσαι τῆς κλήσεως ἧς ἐκλήθητε,

2 μετὰ πάσης ταπεινοφροσύνης καὶ πραΰτητος, μετὰ μακροθυμίας, ἀνεχόμενοι ἀλλήλων ἐν ἀγάπῃ,

3 σπουδάζοντες τηρεῖν τὴν ἑνότητα τοῦ πνεύματος ἐν τῶ συνδέσμῳ τῆς εἰρήνης·

4 ἓν σῶμα καὶ ἓν πνεῦμα, καθὼς καὶ ἐκλήθητε ἐν μιᾷ ἐλπίδι τῆς κλήσεως ὑμῶν·

5 εἷς κύριος, μία πίστις, ἓν βάπτισμα·

6 εἷς θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ πάντων, ὁ ἐπὶ πάντων καὶ διὰ πάντων καὶ ἐν πᾶσιν.

7 ἑνὶ δὲ ἑκάστῳ ἡμῶν ἐδόθη ἡ χάρις κατὰ τὸ μέτρον τῆς δωρεᾶς τοῦ χριστοῦ.

8 διὸ λέγει, ἀναβὰς εἰς ὕψος ᾐχμαλώτευσεν αἰχμαλωσίαν, ἔδωκεν δόματα τοῖς ἀνθρώποις.

9 τὸ δὲ ἀνέβη τί ἐστιν εἰ μὴ ὅτι καὶ κατέβη εἰς τὰ κατώτερα [μέρη] τῆς γῆς;

10 ὁ καταβὰς αὐτός ἐστιν καὶ ὁ ἀναβὰς ὑπεράνω πάντων τῶν οὐρανῶν, ἵνα πληρώσῃ τὰ πάντα.

11 καὶ αὐτὸς ἔδωκεν τοὺς μὲν ἀποστόλους, τοὺς δὲ προφήτας, τοὺς δὲ εὐαγγελιστάς, τοὺς δὲ ποιμένας καὶ διδασκάλους,

12 πρὸς τὸν καταρτισμὸν τῶν ἁγίων εἰς ἔργον διακονίας, εἰς οἰκοδομὴν τοῦ σώματος τοῦ χριστοῦ,

13 μέχρι καταντήσωμεν οἱ πάντες εἰς τὴν ἑνότητα τῆς πίστεως καὶ τῆς ἐπιγνώσεως τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰς ἄνδρα τέλειον, εἰς μέτρον ἡλικίας τοῦ πληρώματος τοῦ χριστοῦ,

14 ἵνα μηκέτι ὦμεν νήπιοι, κλυδωνιζόμενοι καὶ περιφερόμενοι παντὶ ἀνέμῳ τῆς διδασκαλίας ἐν τῇ κυβείᾳ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἐν πανουργίᾳ πρὸς τὴν μεθοδείαν τῆς πλάνης,

15 ἀληθεύοντες δὲ ἐν ἀγάπῃ αὐξήσωμεν εἰς αὐτὸν τὰ πάντα, ὅς ἐστιν ἡ κεφαλή, χριστός,

16 ἐξ οὖ πᾶν τὸ σῶμα συναρμολογούμενον καὶ συμβιβαζόμενον διὰ πάσης ἁφῆς τῆς ἐπιχορηγίας κατ᾽ ἐνέργειαν ἐν μέτρῳ ἑνὸς ἑκάστου μέρους τὴν αὔξησιν τοῦ σώματος ποιεῖται εἰς οἰκοδομὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἐν ἀγάπῃ.

17 τοῦτο οὗν λέγω καὶ μαρτύρομαι ἐν κυρίῳ, μηκέτι ὑμᾶς περιπατεῖν καθὼς καὶ τὰ ἔθνη περιπατεῖ ἐν ματαιότητι τοῦ νοὸς αὐτῶν,

18 ἐσκοτωμένοι τῇ διανοίᾳ ὄντες, ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι τῆς ζωῆς τοῦ θεοῦ, διὰ τὴν ἄγνοιαν τὴν οὗσαν ἐν αὐτοῖς, διὰ τὴν πώρωσιν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν,

19 οἵτινες ἀπηλγηκότες ἑαυτοὺς παρέδωκαν τῇ ἀσελγείᾳ εἰς ἐργασίαν ἀκαθαρσίας πάσης ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ.

20 ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἐμάθετε τὸν χριστόν,

21 εἴ γε αὐτὸν ἠκούσατε καὶ ἐν αὐτῶ ἐδιδάχθητε, καθώς ἐστιν ἀλήθεια ἐν τῶ ἰησοῦ,

22 ἀποθέσθαι ὑμᾶς κατὰ τὴν προτέραν ἀναστροφὴν τὸν παλαιὸν ἄνθρωπον τὸν φθειρόμενον κατὰ τὰς ἐπιθυμίας τῆς ἀπάτης,

23 ἀνανεοῦσθαι δὲ τῶ πνεύματι τοῦ νοὸς ὑμῶν,

24 καὶ ἐνδύσασθαι τὸν καινὸν ἄνθρωπον τὸν κατὰ θεὸν κτισθέντα ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ὁσιότητι τῆς ἀληθείας.

25 διὸ ἀποθέμενοι τὸ ψεῦδος λαλεῖτε ἀλήθειαν ἕκαστος μετὰ τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἐσμὲν ἀλλήλων μέλη.

26 ὀργίζεσθε καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε· ὁ ἥλιος μὴ ἐπιδυέτω ἐπὶ [τῶ] παροργισμῶ ὑμῶν,

27 μηδὲ δίδοτε τόπον τῶ διαβόλῳ.

28 ὁ κλέπτων μηκέτι κλεπτέτω, μᾶλλον δὲ κοπιάτω ἐργαζόμενος ταῖς [ἰδίαις] χερσὶν τὸ ἀγαθόν, ἵνα ἔχῃ μεταδιδόναι τῶ χρείαν ἔχοντι.

29 πᾶς λόγος σαπρὸς ἐκ τοῦ στόματος ὑμῶν μὴ ἐκπορευέσθω, ἀλλὰ εἴ τις ἀγαθὸς πρὸς οἰκοδομὴν τῆς χρείας, ἵνα δῶ χάριν τοῖς ἀκούουσιν.

30 καὶ μὴ λυπεῖτε τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον τοῦ θεοῦ, ἐν ᾧ ἐσφραγίσθητε εἰς ἡμέραν ἀπολυτρώσεως.

31 πᾶσα πικρία καὶ θυμὸς καὶ ὀργὴ καὶ κραυγὴ καὶ βλασφημία ἀρθήτω ἀφ᾽ ὑμῶν σὺν πάσῃ κακίᾳ.

32 γίνεσθε [δὲ] εἰς ἀλλήλους χρηστοί, εὔσπλαγχνοι, χαριζόμενοι ἑαυτοῖς καθὼς καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἐν χριστῶ ἐχαρίσατο ὑμῖν.

1  I¹⁴⁷³ therefore,³⁷⁶⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ prisoner¹¹⁹⁸ of¹⁷²² the Lord,²⁹⁶² beseech³⁸⁷⁰ you⁵²⁰⁹ that ye walk⁴⁰⁴³ worthy⁵¹⁶ of the³⁵⁸⁸ vocation²⁸²¹ wherewith³⁷³⁹ ye are called,²⁵⁶⁴

2  With³³²⁶ all³⁹⁵⁶ lowliness⁵⁰¹² and²⁵³² meekness,⁴²³⁶ with³³²⁶ longsuffering,³¹¹⁵ forbearing⁴³⁰ one another²⁴⁰ in¹⁷²² love;²⁶

3  Endeavoring⁴⁷⁰⁴ to keep⁵⁰⁸³ the³⁵⁸⁸ unity¹⁷⁷⁵ of the³⁵⁸⁸ Spirit⁴¹⁵¹ in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ bond⁴⁸⁸⁶ of peace.¹⁵¹⁵

4  There is one¹⁵²⁰ body,⁴⁹⁸³ and²⁵³² one¹⁵²⁰ Spirit,⁴¹⁵¹ even as²⁵³¹ ye are called²⁵⁶⁴ in¹⁷²² one³³⁹¹ hope¹⁶⁸⁰ of your⁵²¹⁶ calling;²⁸²¹

5  One¹⁵²⁰ Lord,²⁹⁶² one³³⁹¹ faith,⁴¹⁰² one¹⁵²⁰ baptism,⁹⁰⁸

6  One¹⁵²⁰ God²³¹⁶ and²⁵³² Father³⁹⁶² of all,³⁹⁵⁶ who³⁵⁸⁸ is above¹⁹⁰⁹ all,³⁹⁵⁶ and²⁵³² through¹²²³ all,³⁹⁵⁶ and²⁵³² in¹⁷²² you⁵²¹³ all.³⁹⁵⁶

7  But¹¹⁶¹ unto every¹⁵³⁸ one¹⁵²⁰ of us²²⁵⁷ is given¹³²⁵ grace⁵⁴⁸⁵ according²⁵⁹⁶ to the³⁵⁸⁸ measure³³⁵⁸ of the³⁵⁸⁸ gift¹⁴³¹ of Christ.⁵⁵⁴⁷

8  Wherefore¹³⁵² he saith,³⁰⁰⁴ When he ascended up³⁰⁵ on¹⁵¹⁹ high,⁵³¹¹ he led captivity captive,^{162 161} and²⁵³² gave¹³²⁵ gifts¹³⁹⁰ unto men.⁴⁴⁴

9  (Now¹¹⁶¹ that³⁵⁸⁸ he ascended,³⁰⁵ what⁵¹⁰¹ is²⁰⁷⁶ it but¹⁵⁰⁸ that³⁷⁵⁴ he also²⁵³² descended²⁵⁹⁷ first⁴⁴¹² into¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ lower²⁷³⁷ parts³³¹³ of the³⁵⁸⁸ earth?¹⁰⁹³

10  He that descended²⁵⁹⁷ is²⁰⁷⁶ the same⁸⁴⁶ also²⁵³² that ascended up³⁰⁵ far above⁵²³¹ all³⁹⁵⁶ heavens,³⁷⁷² that²⁴⁴³ he might fill⁴¹³⁷ all things.)³⁹⁵⁶

11  And²⁵³² he⁸⁴⁶ gave¹³²⁵ some,^{3588 3303} apostles;⁶⁵² and¹¹⁶¹ some,³⁵⁸⁸ prophets;⁴³⁹⁶ and¹¹⁶¹ some,³⁵⁸⁸ evangelists;²⁰⁹⁹ and¹¹⁶¹ some,³⁵⁸⁸ pastors⁴¹⁶⁶ and²⁵³² teachers;¹³²⁰

12  For⁴³¹⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ perfecting²⁶⁷⁷ of the³⁵⁸⁸ saints,⁴⁰ for¹⁵¹⁹ the work²⁰⁴¹ of the ministry,¹²⁴⁸ for¹⁵¹⁹ the edifying³⁶¹⁹ of the³⁵⁸⁸ body⁴⁹⁸³ of Christ:⁵⁵⁴⁷

13  Till³³⁶⁰ we all³⁹⁵⁶ come²⁶⁵⁸ in¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ unity¹⁷⁷⁵ of the³⁵⁸⁸ faith,⁴¹⁰² and²⁵³² of the³⁵⁸⁸ knowledge¹⁹²² of the³⁵⁸⁸ Son⁵²⁰⁷ of God,²³¹⁶ unto¹⁵¹⁹ a perfect⁵⁰⁴⁶ man,⁴³⁵ unto¹⁵¹⁹ the measure³³⁵⁸ of the stature²²⁴⁴ of the³⁵⁸⁸ fullness⁴¹³⁸ of Christ:⁵⁵⁴⁷

14  That²⁴⁴³ we henceforth be⁵⁶⁰⁰ no more³³⁷¹ children,³⁵¹⁶ tossed to and fro,²⁸³¹ and²⁵³² carried about⁴⁰⁶⁴ with every³⁹⁵⁶ wind⁴¹⁷ of doctrine,¹³¹⁹ by¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ sleight²⁹⁴⁰ of men,⁴⁴⁴ and¹⁷²² cunning craftiness,³⁸³⁴ whereby⁴³¹⁴ they lie in wait to deceive;^{3180 4106}

15  But¹¹⁶¹ speaking the truth²²⁶ in¹⁷²² love,²⁶ may grow up⁸³⁷ into¹⁵¹⁹ him⁸⁴⁶ in all things,³⁹⁵⁶ which³⁷³⁹ is²⁰⁷⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ head,²⁷⁷⁶ even Christ:⁵⁵⁴⁷

16  From¹⁵³⁷ whom³⁷³⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ whole³⁹⁵⁶ body⁴⁹⁸³ fitly joined together⁴⁸⁸³ and²⁵³² compacted⁴⁸²² by¹²²³ that which every³⁹⁵⁶ joint⁸⁶⁰ supplieth,²⁰²⁴ according²⁵⁹⁶ to the effectual working¹⁷⁵³ in¹⁷²² the measure³³⁵⁸ of every^{1538 1520} part,³³¹³ maketh⁴¹⁶⁰ increase⁸³⁸ of the³⁵⁸⁸ body⁴⁹⁸³ unto¹⁵¹⁹ the edifying³⁶¹⁹ of itself¹⁴³⁸ in¹⁷²² love.²⁶

17  This⁵¹²⁴ I say³⁰⁰⁴ therefore,³⁷⁶⁷ and²⁵³² testify³¹⁴³ in¹⁷²² the Lord,²⁹⁶² that ye⁵²⁰⁹ henceforth walk not^{3371 4043} as^{2531 2532} other³⁰⁶² Gentiles¹⁴⁸⁴ walk,⁴⁰⁴³ in¹⁷²² the vanity³¹⁵³ of their⁸⁴⁸ mind,³⁵⁶³

18  Having the³⁵⁸⁸ understanding¹²⁷¹ darkened,⁴⁶⁵⁴ being⁵⁶⁰⁷ alienated⁵²⁶ from the³⁵⁸⁸ life²²²² of God²³¹⁶ through¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ ignorance⁵² that is⁵⁶⁰⁷ in¹⁷²² them,⁸⁴⁶ because¹²²³ of the³⁵⁸⁸ blindness⁴⁴⁵⁷ of their⁸⁴⁶ heart:²⁵⁸⁸

19  Who³⁷⁴⁸ being past feeling⁵²⁴ have given themselves over^{3860 1438} unto lasciviousness,⁷⁶⁶ to¹⁵¹⁹ work²⁰³⁹ all³⁹⁵⁶ uncleanness¹⁶⁷ with¹⁷²² greediness.⁴¹²⁴

20  But¹¹⁶¹ ye⁵²¹⁰ have not³⁷⁵⁶ so³⁷⁷⁹ learned³¹²⁹ Christ;⁵⁵⁴⁷

21  If so be¹⁴⁸⁹ that ye have heard¹⁹¹ him,⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² have been taught¹³²¹ by¹⁷²² him,⁸⁴⁶ as²⁵³¹ the truth²²⁵ is²⁰⁷⁶ in¹⁷²² Jesus:²⁴²⁴

22  That ye⁵²⁰⁹ put off⁶⁵⁹ concerning²⁵⁹⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ former⁴³⁸⁷ conversation³⁹¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ old³⁸²⁰ man,⁴⁴⁴ which is corrupt⁵³⁵¹ according²⁵⁹⁶ to the³⁵⁸⁸ deceitful⁵³⁹ lusts;¹⁹³⁹

23  And¹¹⁶¹ be renewed³⁶⁵ in the³⁵⁸⁸ spirit⁴¹⁵¹ of your⁵²¹⁶ mind;³⁵⁶³

24  And²⁵³² that ye put on¹⁷⁴⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ new²⁵³⁷ man,⁴⁴⁴ which after²⁵⁹⁶ God²³¹⁶ is created²⁹³⁶ in¹⁷²² righteousness¹³⁴³ and²⁵³² true²²⁵ holiness.³⁷⁴²

25  Wherefore¹³⁵² putting away⁶⁵⁹ lying,⁵⁵⁷⁹ speak²⁹⁸⁰ every man¹⁵³⁸ truth²²⁵ with³³²⁶ his⁸⁴⁸ neighbor:⁴¹³⁹ for³⁷⁵⁴ we are²⁰⁷⁰ members³¹⁹⁶ one of another.²⁴⁰

26  Be ye angry,³⁷¹⁰ and²⁵³² sin²⁶⁴ not: let³³⁶¹ not³³⁶¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ sun²²⁴⁶ go down¹⁹³¹ upon¹⁹⁰⁹ your⁵²¹⁶ wrath:³⁹⁵⁰

27  Neither³³⁸³ give¹³²⁵ place⁵¹¹⁷ to the³⁵⁸⁸ devil.¹²²⁸

28  Let him that stole²⁸¹³ steal²⁸¹³ no more:³³⁷¹ but¹¹⁶¹ rather³¹²³ let him labor,²⁸⁷² working²⁰³⁸ with his hands⁵⁴⁹⁵ the thing which is good,¹⁸ that²⁴⁴³ he may have²¹⁹² to give³³³⁰ to him that needeth.^{2192 5532}

29  Let no^{3361 3956} corrupt⁴⁵⁵⁰ communication³⁰⁵⁶ proceed¹⁶⁰⁷ out of¹⁵³⁷ your⁵²¹⁶ mouth,⁴⁷⁵⁰ but²³⁵ that¹⁵³⁶ which is good¹⁸ to⁴³¹⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ use⁵⁵³² of edifying,³⁶¹⁹ that²⁴⁴³ it may minister¹³²⁵ grace⁵⁴⁸⁵ unto the³⁵⁸⁸ hearers.¹⁹¹

30  And²⁵³² grieve³⁰⁷⁶ not³³⁶¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ Holy⁴⁰ Spirit⁴¹⁵¹ of God,²³¹⁶ whereby^{1722 3739} ye are sealed⁴⁹⁷² unto¹⁵¹⁹ the day²²⁵⁰ of redemption.⁶²⁹

31  Let all³⁹⁵⁶ bitterness,⁴⁰⁸⁸ and²⁵³² wrath,²³⁷² and²⁵³² anger,³⁷⁰⁹ and²⁵³² clamor,²⁹⁰⁶ and²⁵³² evil speaking,⁹⁸⁸ be put away¹⁴² from⁵⁷⁵ you,⁵²¹⁶ with⁴⁸⁶² all³⁹⁵⁶ malice:²⁵⁴⁹

32  And¹¹⁶¹ be¹⁰⁹⁶ ye kind⁵⁵⁴³ one to another,^{240 1519} tenderhearted,²¹⁵⁵ forgiving⁵⁴⁸³ one another,¹⁴³⁸ even²⁵³² as²⁵³¹ God²³¹⁶ for Christ's sake^{1722 5547} hath forgiven⁵⁴⁸³ you.⁵²¹³

2 cum omni humilitate, et mansuetudine, cum patientia, supportantes invicem in caritate,

3 solliciti servare unitatem Spiritus in vinculo pacis.

4 Unum corpus, et unus Spiritus, sicut vocati estis in una spe vocationis vestræ.

5 Unus Dominus, una fides, unum baptisma.

6 Unus Deus et Pater omnium, qui est super omnes, et per omnia, et in omnibus nobis.

7 Unicuique autem nostrum data est gratia secundum mensuram donationis Christi.

8 Propter quod dicit: Ascendens in altum, captivam duxit captivitatem: dedit dona hominibus.

9 Quod autem ascendit, quid est, nisi quia et descendit primum in inferiores partes terræ?

10 Qui descendit, ipse est et qui ascendit super omnes cælos, ut impleret omnia.

11 Et ipse dedit quosdam quidem apostolos, quosdam autem prophetas, alios vero evangelistas, alios autem pastores et doctores,

12 ad consummationem sanctorum in opus ministerii, in ædificationem corporis Christi:

13 donec occurramus omnes in unitatem fidei, et agnitionis Filii Dei, in virum perfectum, in mensuram ætatis plenitudinis Christi:

14 ut jam non simus parvuli fluctuantes, et circumferamur omni vento doctrinæ in nequitia hominum, in astutia ad circumventionem erroris.

15 Veritatem autem facientes in caritate, crescamus in illo per omnia, qui est caput Christus:

16 ex quo totum corpus compactum et connexum per omnem juncturam subministrationis, secundum operationem in mensuram uniuscujusque membri, augmentum corporis facit in ædificationem sui in caritate.

17 Hoc igitur dico, et testificor in Domino, ut jam non ambuletis, sicut et gentes ambulant in vanitate sensus sui,

18 tenebris obscuratum habentes intellectum, alienati a vita Dei per ignorantiam, quæ est in illis, propter cæcitatem cordis ipsorum,

19 qui desperantes, semetipsos tradiderunt impudicitiæ, in operationem immunditiæ omnis in avaritiam.

20 Vos autem non ita didicistis Christum,

21 si tamen illum audistis, et in ipso edocti estis, sicut est veritas in Jesu,

22 deponere vos secundum pristinam conversationem veterem hominem, qui corrumpitur secundum desideria erroris.

23 Renovamini autem spiritu mentis vestræ,

24 et induite novum hominem, qui secundum Deum creatus est in justitia, et sanctitate veritatis.

25 Propter quod deponentes mendacium, loquimini veritatem unusquisque cum proximo suo: quoniam sumus invicem membra.

26 Irascimini, et nolite peccare: sol non occidat super iracundiam vestram.

27 Nolite locum dare diabolo:

28 qui furabatur, jam non furetur: magis autem laboret, operando manibus suis, quod bonum est, ut habeat unde tribuat necessitatem patienti.

29 Omnis sermo malus ex ore vestro non procedat: sed si quis bonus ad ædificationem fidei ut det gratiam audientibus.

30 Et nolite contristare Spiritum Sanctum Dei: in quo signati estis in diem redemptionis.

31 Omnis amaritudo, et ira, et indignatio, et clamor, et blasphemia tollatur a vobis cum omni malitia.

32 Estote autem invicem benigni, misericordes, donantes invicem sicut et Deus in Christo donavit vobis.
