Chapître 59

1

To the chief Musician,¹⁸ Altaschith, ^{7843 55 516} Michtam of David; when Saul sent,² and they watched⁴ the house to kill him.
⁵³ Deliver⁵⁴ me from mine enemies,⁶ O my God: defend¹⁷ me from them that rise up¹⁰² against me.

 Deliver⁵⁴ me from the workers⁶ of iniquity, and save⁵⁴ me from bloody men.

3

For, lo, they lie in wait¹ for my soul: the mighty are gathered⁴ against me; not [for] my transgression, nor [for] my sin, O LORD.

4

They run⁴ and prepare¹¹³ themselves without [my] fault: awake³ to help² me, and behold.³

Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake⁵⁴ to visit² all the heathen: be not merciful⁴ to any wicked transgressors.⁶ Selah.

They return⁴ at evening: they make a noise⁴ like a dog, and go round about²⁵ the city.

7

Behold, they belch out⁵⁵ with their mouth: swords [are] in their lips: for who, [say they], doth hear?⁶

8

But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh⁴ at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.⁴

9

[Because of] his strength will I wait⁴ upon thee: for God [is] my defence.

10

The God of my mercy shall prevent¹⁷ me: God shall let me see⁵⁵ [my desire] upon mine enemies.⁶

11

 Slay⁴ them not, lest my people forget:⁴ scatter⁵⁴ them by thy power; and bring them down,⁵⁴ O Lord our shield.

12

[For] the sin of their mouth [and] the words of their lips let them even be taken¹¹ in their pride: and for cursing and lying [which] they speak.¹⁷

13

 Consume¹⁶ [them] in wrath, consume¹⁶ [them], that they [may] not [be]: and let them know⁴ that God ruleth⁶ in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

14

And at evening let them return;⁴ [and] let them make a noise⁴ like a dog, and go round about²⁵ the city.

15

Let them wander up and down^{55 5128 4} for meat,² and grudge⁴ if they be not satisfied.⁴

16

But I will sing⁴ of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud¹⁷ of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

17

Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing:¹⁷ for God [is] my defence, [and] the God of my mercy.
