Chapître 58

1

To the chief Musician,¹⁸ Altaschith, ^{7843 55 516} Michtam of David.
Do ye indeed speak¹⁷ righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge⁴ uprightly, O ye sons of men?

Yea, in heart ye work⁴ wickedness; ye weigh¹⁷ the violence of your hands in the earth.

The wicked are estranged¹ from the womb: they go astray¹ as soon as they be born, speaking⁶ lies.

4

Their poison [is] like the poison of a serpent: [they are] like the deaf adder [that] stoppeth⁵⁵ her ear;

5

Which will not hearken⁴ to the voice of charmers,¹⁸ charming^{6 2267} never so wisely.³⁰

 Break³ their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out² the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

Let them melt away¹¹ as waters [which] run¹⁰¹ continually: [when] he bendeth⁴ [his bow to shoot] his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.¹¹³

8

As a snail [which] melteth, let [every one of them] pass away:⁴ [like] the untimely birth of a woman, [that] they may not see¹ the sun.

Before your pots can feel⁴ the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind,⁴ both living, and in [his] wrath.

10

The righteous shall rejoice⁴ when he seeth¹ the vengeance: he shall wash⁴ his feet in the blood of the wicked.

11

So that a man shall say,⁴ Verily [there is] a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth⁶ in the earth.
