Matthew 4

1 τότε ὁ ἰησοῦς ἀνήχθη εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὑπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος, πειρασθῆναι ὑπὸ τοῦ διαβόλου.

2 καὶ νηστεύσας ἡμέρας τεσσεράκοντα καὶ νύκτας τεσσεράκοντα ὕστερον ἐπείνασεν.

3 καὶ προσελθὼν ὁ πειράζων εἶπεν αὐτῶ, εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰπὲ ἵνα οἱ λίθοι οὖτοι ἄρτοι γένωνται.

4 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν, γέγραπται, οὐκ ἐπ᾽ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπὶ παντὶ ῥήματι ἐκπορευομένῳ διὰ στόματος θεοῦ.

5 τότε παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν, καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ πτερύγιον τοῦ ἱεροῦ,

6 καὶ λέγει αὐτῶ, εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, βάλε σεαυτὸν κάτω· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ ἐντελεῖται περὶ σοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ χειρῶν ἀροῦσίν σε, μήποτε προσκόψῃς πρὸς λίθον τὸν πόδα σου.

7 ἔφη αὐτῶ ὁ ἰησοῦς, πάλιν γέγραπται, οὐκ ἐκπειράσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου.

8 πάλιν παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν λίαν, καὶ δείκνυσιν αὐτῶ πάσας τὰς βασιλείας τοῦ κόσμου καὶ τὴν δόξαν αὐτῶν,

9 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῶ, ταῦτά σοι πάντα δώσω ἐὰν πεσὼν προσκυνήσῃς μοι.

10 τότε λέγει αὐτῶ ὁ ἰησοῦς, ὕπαγε, σατανᾶ· γέγραπται γάρ, κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις καὶ αὐτῶ μόνῳ λατρεύσεις.

11 τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελοι προσῆλθον καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῶ.

12 ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι ἰωάννης παρεδόθη ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὴν γαλιλαίαν.

13 καὶ καταλιπὼν τὴν ναζαρὰ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς καφαρναοὺμ τὴν παραθαλασσίαν ἐν ὁρίοις ζαβουλὼν καὶ νεφθαλίμ·

14 ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος,

15 γῆ ζαβουλὼν καὶ γῆ νεφθαλίμ, ὁδὸν θαλάσσης, πέραν τοῦ ἰορδάνου, γαλιλαία τῶν ἐθνῶν,

16 ὁ λαὸς ὁ καθήμενος ἐν σκότει φῶς εἶδεν μέγα, καὶ τοῖς καθημένοις ἐν χώρᾳ καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου φῶς ἀνέτειλεν αὐτοῖς.

17 ἀπὸ τότε ἤρξατο ὁ ἰησοῦς κηρύσσειν καὶ λέγειν, μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

18 περιπατῶν δὲ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς γαλιλαίας εἶδεν δύο ἀδελφούς, σίμωνα τὸν λεγόμενον πέτρον καὶ ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν· ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς.

19 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου, καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων.

20 οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὰ δίκτυα ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῶ.

21 καὶ προβὰς ἐκεῖθεν εἶδεν ἄλλους δύο ἀδελφούς, ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ ζεβεδαίου καὶ ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, ἐν τῶ πλοίῳ μετὰ ζεβεδαίου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς.

22 οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὸ πλοῖον καὶ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῶ.

23 καὶ περιῆγεν ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ γαλιλαίᾳ, διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῶ λαῶ.

24 καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἡ ἀκοὴ αὐτοῦ εἰς ὅλην τὴν συρίαν· καὶ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῶ πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις καὶ βασάνοις συνεχομένους [καὶ] δαιμονιζομένους καὶ σεληνιαζομένους καὶ παραλυτικούς, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς.

25 καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῶ ὄχλοι πολλοὶ ἀπὸ τῆς γαλιλαίας καὶ δεκαπόλεως καὶ ἱεροσολύμων καὶ ἰουδαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ ἰορδάνου.

8  Again,3825 the3588 devil1228 taketh him up3880 846 into1519 an exceeding3029 high5308 mountain,3735 and2532 showeth1166 him846 all3956 the3588 kingdoms932 of the3588 world,2889 and2532 the3588 glory1391 of them;846

9  And2532 saith3004 unto him,846 All3956 these things5023 will I give1325 thee,4671 if1437 thou wilt fall down4098 and worship4352 me.3427

12  Now1161 when Jesus2424 had heard191 that3754 John2491 was cast into prison,3860 he departed402 into1519 Galilee;1056

13  And2532 leaving2641 Nazareth,3478 he came2064 and dwelt2730 in1519 Capernaum,2584 which is upon the sea coast,3864 in1722 the borders3725 of Zebulun2194 and2532 Naphtali:3508

16  The3588 people2992 which3588 sat2521 in1722 darkness4655 saw1492 great3173 light;5457 and2532 to them which sat2521 in1722 the region5561 and2532 shadow4639 of death2288 light5457 is sprung up.393

17  From575 that time5119 Jesus2424 began756 to preach,2784 and2532 to say,3004 Repent:3340 for1063 the3588 kingdom932 of heaven3772 is at hand.1448

18  And1161 Jesus,2424 walking4043 by3844 the3588 sea2281 of Galilee,1056 saw1492 two1417 brethren,80 Simon4613 called3004 Peter,4074 and2532 Andrew406 his846 brother,80 casting906 a net293 into1519 the3588 sea:2281 for1063 they were2258 fishers.231

19  And2532 he saith3004 unto them,846 Follow1205 3694 me,3450 and2532 I will make4160 you5209 fishers231 of men.444

20  And1161 they3588 straightway2112 left863 their nets,1350 and followed190 him.846

21  And2532 going on4260 from thence,1564 he saw1492 other243 two1417 brethren,80 James2385 the3588 son of Zebedee,2199 and2532 John2491 his846 brother,80 in1722 a ship4143 with3326 Zebedee2199 their846 father,3962 mending2675 their848 nets;1350 and2532 he called2564 them.846

23  And2532 Jesus2424 went about4013 all3650 Galilee,1056 teaching1321 in1722 their846 synagogues,4864 and2532 preaching2784 the3588 gospel2098 of the3588 kingdom,932 and2532 healing2323 all manner3956 of sickness3554 and2532 all manner3956 of disease3119 among1722 the3588 people.2992

3 Et accedens tentator dixit ei: Si Filius Dei es, dic ut lapides isti panes fiant.

4 Qui respondens dixit: Scriptum est: Non in solo pane vivit homo, sed in omni verbo, quod procedit de ore Dei.

5 Tunc assumpsit eum diabolus in sanctam civitatem, et statuit eum super pinnaculum templi,

6 et dixit ei: Si Filius Dei es, mitte te deorsum. Scriptum est enim: Quia angelis suis mandavit de te, et in manibus tollent te, ne forte offendas ad lapidem pedem tuum.

7 Ait illi Jesus: Rursum scriptum est: Non tentabis Dominum Deum tuum.

8 Iterum assumpsit eum diabolus in montem excelsum valde: et ostendit ei omnia regna mundi, et gloriam eorum,

9 et dixit ei: Hæc omnia tibi dabo, si cadens adoraveris me.

10 Tunc dicit ei Jesus: Vade Satana: Scriptum est enim: Dominum Deum tuum adorabis, et illi soli servies.

11 Tunc reliquit eum diabolus: et ecce angeli accesserunt, et ministrabant ei.

12 Cum autem audisset Jesus quod Joannes traditus esset, secessit in Galilæam:

13 et, relicta civitate Nazareth, venit, et habitavit in Capharnaum maritima, in finibus Zabulon et Nephthalim:

14 ut adimpleretur quod dictum est per Isaiam prophetam:

15 [Terra Zabulon, et terra Nephthalim,
via maris trans Jordanem,
Galilæa gentium:

16 populus, qui sedebat in tenebris,
vidit lucem magnam:
et sedentibus in regione umbræ mortis,
lux orta est eis.]

17 Exinde cœpit Jesus prædicare, et dicere: Pœnitentiam agite: appropinquavit enim regnum cælorum.

18 Ambulans autem Jesus juxta mare Galilææ, vidit duos fratres, Simonem, qui vocatur Petrus, et Andream fratrem ejus, mittentes rete in mare (erant enim piscatores),

19 et ait illis: Venite post me, et faciam vos fieri piscatores hominum.

20 At illi continuo relictis retibus secuti sunt eum.

21 Et procedens inde, vidit alios duos fratres, Jacobum Zebedæi, et Joannem fratrem ejus, in navi cum Zebedæo patre eorum, reficientes retia sua: et vocavit eos.

22 Illi autem statim relictis retibus et patre, secuti sunt eum.

23 Et circuibat Jesus totam Galilæam, docens in synagogis eorum, et prædicans Evangelium regni: et sanans omnem languorem, et omnem infirmitatem in populo.

24 Et abiit opinio ejus in totam Syriam, et obtulerunt ei omnes male habentes, variis languoribus, et tormentis comprehensos, et qui dæmonia habebant, et lunaticos, et paralyticos, et curavit eos:

25 et secutæ sunt eum turbæ multæ de Galilæa, et Decapoli, et de Jerosolymis, et de Judæa, et de trans Jordanem.
