Jeremiah 8

KJV

1  At that1931 time,6256 saith5002 the LORD,3068 they shall bring out3318 853 the bones6106 of the kings4428 of Judah,3063 and the bones6106 of his princes,8269 and the bones6106 of the priests,3548 and the bones6106 of the prophets,5030 and the bones6106 of the inhabitants3427 of Jerusalem,3389 out of their graves:4480 6913

2  And they shall spread7849 them before the sun,8121 and the moon,3394 and all3605 the host6635 of heaven,8064 whom834 they have loved,157 and whom834 they have served,5647 and after310 whom834 they have walked,1980 and whom834 they have sought,1875 and whom834 they have worshiped:7812 they shall not3808 be gathered,622 nor3808 be buried;6912 they shall be1961 for dung1828 upon5921 the face6440 of the earth.127

3  And death4194 shall be chosen977 rather than life4480 2416 by all3605 the residue7611 of them that remain7604 of4480 this2063 evil7451 family,4940 which remain7604 in all3605 the places4725 whither834 8033 I have driven5080 them, saith5002 the LORD3068 of hosts.6635

4  Moreover thou shalt say559 unto413 them, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD;3068 Shall they fall,5307 and not3808 arise?6965 shall he turn away,7725 and not3808 return?7725

5  Why4069 then is this2088 people5971 of Jerusalem3389 slid back7725 by a perpetual5329 backsliding?4878 they hold fast2388 deceit,8649 they refuse3985 to return.7725

6  I hearkened7181 and heard,8085 but they spoke1696 not3808 aright:3651 no369 man376 repented5162 him of5921 his wickedness,7451 saying,559 What4100 have I done?6213 every one3605 turned7725 to his course,4794 as the horse5483 rusheth7857 into the battle.4421

7  Yea,1571 the stork2624 in the heaven8064 knoweth3045 her appointed times;4150 and the turtle8449 and the crane5483 and the swallow5693 observe8104 853 the time6256 of their coming;935 but my people5971 know3045 not3808 853 the judgment4941 of the LORD.3068

8  How349 do ye say,559 We587 are wise,2450 and the law8451 of the LORD3068 is with854 us? Lo,2009 certainly403 in vain8267 made6213 he it; the pen5842 of the scribes5608 is in vain.8267

9  The wise2450 men are ashamed,954 they are dismayed2865 and taken:3920 lo,2009 they have rejected3988 the word1697 of the LORD;3068 and what4100 wisdom2451 is in them?

10  Therefore3651 will I give5414 853 their wives802 unto others,312 and their fields7704 to them that shall inherit3423 them: for3588 every one3605 from the least4480 6996 even unto5704 the greatest1419 is given to covetousness,1214 1215 from the prophet4480 5030 even unto5704 the priest3548 every one3605 dealeth6213 falsely.8267

11  For they have healed7495 853 the hurt7667 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 slightly,7043 saying,559 Peace,7965 peace;7965 when there is no369 peace.7965

12  Were they ashamed954 when3588 they had committed6213 abomination?8441 nay,1571 they were not3808 at all ashamed,954 954 neither3808 could3045 they blush:3637 therefore3651 shall they fall5307 among them that fall:5307 in the time6256 of their visitation6486 they shall be cast down,3782 saith559 the LORD.3068

13  I will surely consume5486 5486 them, saith5002 the LORD:3068 there shall be no369 grapes6025 on the vine,1612 nor369 figs8384 on the fig tree,8384 and the leaf5929 shall fade;5034 and the things that I have given5414 them shall pass away5674 from them.

14  Why4100 5921 do we587 sit3427 still? assemble yourselves,622 and let us enter935 into413 the defensed4013 cities,5892 and let us be silent1826 there:8033 for3588 the LORD3068 our God430 hath put us to silence,1826 and given us water4325 of gall7219 to drink,8248 because3588 we have sinned2398 against the LORD.3068

15  We looked6960 for peace,7965 but no369 good2896 came; and for a time6256 of health,4832 and behold2009 trouble!1205

16  The snorting5170 of his horses5483 was heard8085 from Dan:4480 1835 the whole3605 land776 trembled7493 at the sound4480 6963 of the neighing4684 of his strong ones;47 for they are come,935 and have devoured398 the land,776 and all4393 that is in it; the city,5892 and those that dwell3427 therein.

17  For,3588 behold,2009 I will send7971 serpents,5175 cockatrices,6848 among you, which834 will not369 be charmed,3908 and they shall bite5391 you, saith5002 the LORD.3068

18  When I would comfort4010 myself against5921 sorrow,3015 my heart3820 is faint1742 in5921 me.

19  Behold2009 the voice6963 of the cry7775 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 because of them that dwell in a far4801 country:4480 776 Is not369 the LORD3068 in Zion?6726 is not369 her king4428 in her? Why4069 have they provoked me to anger3707 with their graven images,6456 and with strange5236 vanities?1892

20  The harvest7105 is past,5674 the summer7019 is ended,3615 and we587 are not3808 saved.3467

21  For5921 the hurt7667 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 am I hurt;7665 I am black;6937 astonishment8047 hath taken hold2388 on me.

22  Is there no369 balm6875 in Gilead;1568 is there no369 physician7495 there?8033 why4069 then3588 is not3808 the health724 of the daughter1323 of my people5971 recovered?5927

1 [In illo tempore, ait Dominus,
ejicient ossa regum Juda, et ossa principum ejus,
et ossa sacerdotum, et ossa prophetarum,
et ossa eorum qui habitaverunt Jerusalem,
de sepulchris suis:

2 et expandent ea ad solem, et lunam,
et omnem militiam cæli,
quæ dilexerunt, et quibus servierunt,
et post quæ ambulaverunt,
et quæ quæsierunt, et adoraverunt.
Non colligentur, et non sepelientur:
in sterquilinium super faciem terræ erunt.

in universis locis quæ derelicta sunt,
ad quæ ejeci eos, dicit Dominus exercituum.]

4 Et dices ad eos: [Hæc dicit Dominus:
Numquid qui cadit non resurget?
et qui aversus est non revertetur?

5 Quare ergo aversus est populus iste in Jerusalem
aversione contentiosa?
Apprehenderunt mendacium,
et noluerunt reverti.

6 Attendi, et auscultavi:
nemo quod bonum est loquitur;
dicens: Quid feci?
Omnes conversi sunt ad cursum suum,
quasi equus impetu vadens ad prælium.

7 Milvus in cælo cognovit tempus suum:
turtur, et hirundo, et ciconia custodierunt tempus adventus sui:
populus autem meus non cognovit judicium Domini.

8 Quomodo dicitis: Sapientes nos sumus,
et lex Domini nobiscum est?
vere mendacium operatus est stylus mendax scribarum!

9 Confusi sunt sapientes;
perterriti et capti sunt:
verbum enim Domini projecerunt,
et sapientia nulla est in eis.

10 Propterea dabo mulieres eorum exteris,
agros eorum hæredibus,
quia a minimo usque ad maximum
omnes avaritiam sequuntur:
a propheta usque ad sacerdotem
cuncti faciunt mendacium.

dicentes: Pax, pax!
cum non esset pax.

12 Confusi sunt, quia abominationem fecerunt:
quinimmo confusione non sunt confusi,
et erubescere nescierunt.
Idcirco cadent inter corruentes:
in tempore visitationis suæ corruent, dicit Dominus.

13 Congregans congregabo eos, ait Dominus.
folium defluxit,
et dedi eis quæ prætergressa sunt.

14 Quare sedemus?
convenite, et ingrediamur civitatem munitam,
et sileamus ibi:
quia Dominus Deus noster silere nos fecit,
et potum dedit nobis aquam fellis:
peccavimus enim Domino.

15 Exspectavimus pacem, et non erat bonum:
tempus medelæ, et ecce formido.

16 A Dan auditus est fremitus equorum ejus;
a voce hinnituum pugnatorum ejus commota est omnis terra:
et venerunt, et devoraverunt terram et plenitudinem ejus;
urbem et habitatores ejus.

17 Quia ecce ego mittam vobis serpentes regulos,
quibus non est incantatio:
et mordebunt vos, ait Dominus.

18 Dolor meus super dolorem,
in me cor meum mœrens.

19 Ecce vox clamoris filiæ populi mei de terra longinqua:
Numquid Dominus non est in Sion?
aut rex ejus non est in ea?
Quare ergo me ad iracundiam concitaverunt in sculptilibus suis,
et in vanitatibus alienis?

20 Transiit messis, finita est æstas,
et nos salvati non sumus.

21 Super contritione filiæ populi mei contritus sum, et contristatus:
stupor obtinuit me.
