1  Thus3541 hath the Lord136 GOD3069 showed7200 unto me: and behold2009 a basket3619 of summer fruit.7019

2  And he said,559 Amos,5986 what4100 seest7200 thou?859 And I said,559 A basket3619 of summer fruit.7019 Then said559 the LORD3068 unto413 me, The end7093 is come935 upon413 my people5971 of Israel;3478 I will not3808 again3254 pass by5674 them any more.5750

3  And the songs7892 of the temple1964 shall be howlings3213 in that1931 day,3117 saith5002 the Lord136 GOD:3069 there shall be many7227 dead bodies6297 in every3605 place;4725 they shall cast them forth7993 with silence.2013

4  Hear8085 this,2063 O ye that swallow up7602 the needy,34 even to make the poor6041 of the land776 to fail,7673

5  Saying,559 When4970 will the new moon2320 be gone,5674 that we may sell7666 corn?7668 and the sabbath,7676 that we may set forth6605 wheat,1250 making the ephah small,6994 374 and the shekel8255 great,1431 and falsifying5791 the balances3976 by deceit?4820

6  That we may buy7069 the poor1800 for silver,3701 and the needy34 for5668 a pair of shoes;5275 yea, and sell7666 the refuse4651 of the wheat?1250

7  The LORD3068 hath sworn7650 by the excellency1347 of Jacob,3290 Surely518 I will never5331 forget7911 any3605 of their works.4639

8  Shall not3808 the land776 tremble7264 for5921 this,2063 and every one3605 mourn56 that dwelleth3427 therein? and it shall rise up5927 wholly3605 as a flood;2975 and it shall be cast out1644 and drowned,8257 as by the flood2975 of Egypt.4714

9  And it shall come to pass1961 in that1931 day,3117 saith5002 the Lord136 GOD,3069 that I will cause the sun8121 to go down935 at noon,6672 and I will darken2821 the earth776 in the clear216 day:3117

10  And I will turn2015 your feasts2282 into mourning,60 and all3605 your songs7892 into lamentation;7015 and I will bring up5927 sackcloth8242 upon5921 all3605 loins,4975 and baldness7144 upon5921 every3605 head;7218 and I will make7760 it as the mourning60 of an only3173 son, and the end319 thereof as a bitter4751 day.3117

11  Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 saith5002 the Lord136 GOD,3069 that I will send7971 a famine7458 in the land,776 not3808 a famine7458 of bread,3899 nor3808 a thirst6772 for water,4325 but3588 518 of hearing8085 853 the words1697 of the LORD:3068

12  And they shall wander5128 from sea4480 3220 to5704 sea,3220 and from the north4480 6828 even to5704 the east,4217 they shall run to and fro7751 to seek1245 853 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 and shall not3808 find4672 it.

13  In that1931 day3117 shall the fair3303 virgins1330 and young men970 faint5968 for thirst.6772

14  They that swear7650 by the sin819 of Samaria,8111 and say,559 Thy god,430 O Dan,1835 liveth;2416 and, The manner1870 of Beer-sheba884 liveth;2416 even they shall fall,5307 and never3808 rise up6965 again.5750

1 οὕτως ἔδειξέν μοι κύριος καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγος ἰξευτοῦ

2 καὶ εἶπεν τί σὺ βλέπεις Αμως καὶ εἶπα ἄγγος ἰξευτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρός με ἥκει τὸ πέρας ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ισραηλ οὐκέτι μὴ προσθῶ τοῦ παρελθεῖν αὐτόν

3 καὶ ὀλολύξει τὰ φατνώματα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ λέγει κύριος πολὺς ὁ πεπτωκὼς ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἐπιρρίψω σιωπήν

4 ἀκούσατε δὴ ταῦτα οἱ ἐκτρίβοντες εἰς τὸ πρωὶ πένητα καὶ καταδυναστεύοντες πτωχοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς

5 οἱ λέγοντες πότε διελεύσεται ὁ μὴν καὶ ἐμπολήσομεν καὶ τὰ σάββατα καὶ ἀνοίξομεν θησαυροὺς τοῦ ποιῆσαι μικρὸν μέτρον καὶ τοῦ μεγαλῦναι στάθμια καὶ ποιῆσαι ζυγὸν ἄδικον

6 τοῦ κτᾶσθαι ἐν ἀργυρίῳ πτωχοὺς καὶ ταπεινὸν ἀντὶ ὑποδημάτων καὶ ἀπὸ παντὸς γενήματος ἐμπορευσόμεθα

7 ὀμνύει κύριος καθ᾽ ὑπερηφανίας Ιακωβ εἰ ἐπιλησθήσεται εἰς νεῖκος πάντα τὰ ἔργα ὑμῶν

8 καὶ ἐπὶ τούτοις οὐ ταραχθήσεται ἡ γῆ καὶ πενθήσει πᾶς ὁ κατοικῶν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ἀναβήσεται ὡς ποταμὸς συντέλεια καὶ καταβήσεται ὡς ποταμὸς Αἰγύπτου

9 καὶ ἔσται ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ λέγει κύριος ὁ θεός καὶ δύσεται ὁ ἥλιος μεσημβρίας καὶ συσκοτάσει ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τὸ φῶς

10 καὶ μεταστρέψω τὰς ἑορτὰς ὑμῶν εἰς πένθος καὶ πάσας τὰς ᾠδὰς ὑμῶν εἰς θρῆνον καὶ ἀναβιβῶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν ὀσφὺν σάκκον καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν κεφαλὴν φαλάκρωμα καὶ θήσομαι αὐτὸν ὡς πένθος ἀγαπητοῦ καὶ τοὺς μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ὡς ἡμέραν ὀδύνης

11 ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται λέγει κύριος καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ λιμὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν οὐ λιμὸν ἄρτου οὐδὲ δίψαν ὕδατος ἀλλὰ λιμὸν τοῦ ἀκοῦσαι λόγον κυρίου

12 καὶ σαλευθήσονται ὕδατα ἕως θαλάσσης καὶ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ ἕως ἀνατολῶν περιδραμοῦνται ζητοῦντες τὸν λόγον κυρίου καὶ οὐ μὴ εὕρωσιν

13 ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐκλείψουσιν αἱ παρθένοι αἱ καλαὶ καὶ οἱ νεανίσκοι ἐν δίψει

14 οἱ ὀμνύοντες κατὰ τοῦ ἱλασμοῦ Σαμαρείας καὶ οἱ λέγοντες ζῇ ὁ θεός σου Δαν καὶ ζῇ ὁ θεός σου Βηρσαβεε καὶ πεσοῦνται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀναστῶσιν ἔτι

‎1 ‏כֹּ֥ה הִרְאַ֖נִי אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה וְהִנֵּ֖ה כְּל֥וּב קָֽיִץ׃

‎2 ‏וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מָֽה־אַתָּ֤ה רֹאֶה֙ עָמ֔וֹס וָאֹמַ֖ר כְּל֣וּב קָ֑יִץ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י בָּ֤א הַקֵּץ֙ אֶל־עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹא־אוֹסִ֥יף ע֖וֹד עֲב֥וֹר לֽוֹ׃

‎3 ‏וְהֵילִ֜ילוּ שִׁיר֤וֹת הֵיכָל֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה רַ֣ב הַפֶּ֔גֶר בְּכָל־מָק֖וֹם הִשְׁלִ֥יךְ הָֽס׃ פ

‎4 ‏שִׁמְעוּ־זֹ֕את הַשֹּׁאֲפִ֖ים אֶבְי֑וֹן וְלַשְׁבִּ֖ית ענוי־ עֲנִיֵּי־ אָֽרֶץ׃

‎5 ‏לֵאמֹ֗ר מָתַ֞י יַעֲבֹ֤ר הַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ וְנַשְׁבִּ֣ירָה שֶּׁ֔בֶר וְהַשַּׁבָּ֖ת וְנִפְתְּחָה־בָּ֑ר לְהַקְטִ֤ין אֵיפָה֙ וּלְהַגְדִּ֣יל שֶׁ֔קֶל וּלְעַוֵּ֖ת מֹאזְנֵ֥י מִרְמָֽה׃

‎6 ‏לִקְנ֤וֹת בַּכֶּ֙סֶף֙ דַּלִּ֔ים וְאֶבְי֖וֹן בַּעֲב֣וּר נַעֲלָ֑יִם וּמַפַּ֥ל בַּ֖ר נַשְׁבִּֽיר׃

‎7 ‏נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה בִּגְא֣וֹן יַעֲקֹ֑ב אִם־אֶשְׁכַּ֥ח לָנֶ֖צַח כָּל־מַעֲשֵׂיהֶֽם׃

‎8 ‏הַ֤עַל זֹאת֙ לֹֽא־תִרְגַּ֣ז הָאָ֔רֶץ וְאָבַ֖ל כָּל־יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בָּ֑הּ וְעָלְתָ֤ה כָאֹר֙ כֻּלָּ֔הּ וְנִגְרְשָׁ֥ה ונשקה וְנִשְׁקְעָ֖ה כִּיא֥וֹר מִצְרָֽיִם׃ ס

‎9 ‏וְהָיָ֣ה׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה וְהֵבֵאתִ֥י הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ בַּֽצָּהֳרָ֑יִם וְהַחֲשַׁכְתִּ֥י לָאָ֖רֶץ בְּי֥וֹם אֽוֹר׃

‎10 ‏וְהָפַכְתִּ֨י חַגֵּיכֶ֜ם לְאֵ֗בֶל וְכָל־שִֽׁירֵיכֶם֙ לְקִינָ֔ה וְהַעֲלֵיתִ֤י עַל־כָּל־מָתְנַ֙יִם֙ שָׂ֔ק וְעַל־כָּל־רֹ֖אשׁ קָרְחָ֑ה וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙ כְּאֵ֣בֶל יָחִ֔יד וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ כְּי֥וֹם מָֽר׃

‎11 ‏הִנֵּ֣ה׀ יָמִ֣ים בָּאִ֗ים נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה וְהִשְׁלַחְתִּ֥י רָעָ֖ב בָּאָ֑רֶץ לֹֽא־רָעָ֤ב לַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ וְלֹֽא־צָמָ֣א לַמַּ֔יִם כִּ֣י אִם־לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

‎12 ‏וְנָעוּ֙ מִיָּ֣ם עַד־יָ֔ם וּמִצָּפ֖וֹן וְעַד־מִזְרָ֑ח יְשֽׁוֹטְט֛וּ לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ אֶת־דְּבַר־יְהוָ֖ה וְלֹ֥א יִמְצָֽאוּ׃

‎13 ‏בַּיּ֨וֹם הַה֜וּא תִּ֠תְעַלַּפְנָה הַבְּתוּלֹ֧ת הַיָּפ֛וֹת וְהַבַּחוּרִ֖ים בַּצָּמָֽא׃

‎14 ‏הַנִּשְׁבָּעִים֙ בְּאַשְׁמַ֣ת שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן וְאָמְר֗וּ חֵ֤י אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ דָּ֔ן וְחֵ֖י דֶּ֣רֶךְ בְּאֵֽר־שָׁ֑בַע וְנָפְל֖וּ וְלֹא־יָק֥וּמוּ עֽוֹד׃ ס

Vul

1 Hæc ostendit mihi Dominus Deus: et ecce uncinus pomorum.

2 Et dixit: Quid tu vides, Amos? Et dixi: Uncinum pomorum. Et dixit Dominus ad me: [Venit finis super populum meum Israël;
non adjiciam ultra ut pertranseam eum.

3 Et stridebunt cardines templi in die illa,
dicit Dominus Deus:
multi morientur;
in omni loco projicietur silentium.]

4 [Audite hoc, qui conteritis pauperem,
et deficere facitis egenos terræ,

5 dicentes: Quando transibit mensis,
et venundabimus merces?
et sabbatum, et aperiemus frumentum,
ut imminuamus mensuram, et augeamus siclum,
et supponamus stateras dolosas,

6 ut possideamus in argento egenos et pauperes pro calceamentis,
et quisquilias frumenti vendamus?

7 Juravit Dominus in superbiam Jacob:
Si oblitus fuero usque ad finem omnia opera eorum.

8 Numquid super isto non commovebitur terra,
et lugebit omnis habitator ejus,
et ascendet quasi fluvius universus,
et ejicicetur, et defluet, quasi rivus Ægypti?

9 Et erit in die illa, dicit Dominus Deus:
occidet sol in meridie,
et tenebrescere faciam terram in die luminis:

10 et convertam festivitates vestras in luctum,
et omnia cantica vestra in planctum,
et inducam super omne dorsum vestrum saccum,
et super omne caput calvitium:
et ponam eam quasi luctum unigeniti,
et novissima ejus quasi diem amarum.

11 Ecce dies veniunt, dicet Dominus,
et mittam famem in terram:
non famem panis, neque sitim aquæ,
sed audiendi verbum Domini.

12 Et commovebuntur a mari usque ad mare,
et ab aquilone usque ad orientem:
circuibunt quærentes verbum Domini,
et non invenient.

13 In die illa deficient virgines pulchræ et adolescentes in siti,

14 qui jurant in delicto Samariæ,
et dicunt: Vivit Deus tuus, Dan,
et vivit via Bersabee;
et cadent, et non resurgent ultra.]
