Le Livre de Jonas
Chapître 4
- 1
- But it displeased4 Jonah exceedingly, 7451 and he was very angry.4
- 2
- And he prayed101 unto the LORD, and said,4 I pray thee, O LORD, [was] not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled2 before14 unto Tarshish: for I knew1 that thou [art] a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest12 thee of the evil.
- 3
- Therefore now, O LORD, take,3 I beseech thee, my life from me; for [it is] better for me to die than to live.
- 4
- Then said4 the LORD, Doest thou well53 to be angry?1
- 5
- So Jonah went out4 of the city, and sat4 on the east side of the city, and there made4 him a booth, and sat4 under it in the shadow, till he might see4 what would become of the city.
- 6
- And the LORD God prepared17 a gourd, and made [it] to come up4 over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver53 him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding 8057 glad4 of the gourd.
- 7
- But God prepared17 a worm when the morning rose2 the next day, and it smote55 the gourd that it withered.4
- 8
- And it came to pass, when the sun did arise,2 that God prepared17 a vehement east wind; and the sun beat55 upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted,101 and wished4 in himself to die,2 and said,4 [It is] better for me to die than to live.
- 9
- And God said4 to Jonah, Doest thou well53 to be angry1 for the gourd? And he said,4 I do well53 to be angry,1 [even] unto death.
- 10
- Then said4 the LORD, Thou hast had pity1 on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured,1 neither madest it grow;14 which came up in a night, 3915 and perished1 in a night: 3915
- 11
- And should not I spare4 Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more53 than sixscore 6240 thousand persons that cannot discern1 between their right hand and their left hand; and [also] much cattle?
