Chapître 2

1

Then Jonah prayed¹⁰¹ unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

And said,⁴ I cried¹ by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard⁴ me; out of the belly of hell cried¹⁴ I, [and] thou heardest¹ my voice.

For thou hadst cast⁵⁵ me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about:²⁵ all thy billows and thy waves passed¹ over me.

Then I said,¹ I am cast out⁸ of thy sight; yet I will look⁵³ again⁵⁵ toward thy holy temple.

The waters compassed¹ me about, [even] to the soul: the depth closed me round about,²⁵ the weeds were wrapped about⁷ my head.

I went down¹ to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars [was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up⁵⁵ my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

When my soul fainted⁹⁹ within me I remembered¹ the LORD: and my prayer came in⁴ unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8

They that observe¹⁸ lying vanities forsake⁴ their own mercy.

9

But I will sacrifice⁴ unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay¹⁷ [that] that I have vowed.¹ Salvation [is] of the LORD.

10

And the LORD spake⁴ unto the fish, and it vomited out⁵⁵ Jonah upon the dry [land].
