Chapître 50

1

Thus saith¹ the LORD, Where [is] the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away?¹⁴ or which of my creditors⁶ [is it] to whom I have sold¹ you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold⁸ yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.²⁷

Wherefore, when I came,¹ [was there] no man? when I called,¹ [was there] none to answer?⁶ Is my hand shortened¹ at all,² that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver?⁵³ behold, at my rebuke I dry up⁵⁵ the sea, I make⁴ the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh,⁴ because [there is] no water, and dieth⁴ for thirst.

I clothe⁵⁵ the heavens with blackness, and I make⁴ sackcloth their covering.

The Lord GOD hath given¹ me the tongue of the learned, that I should know² how to speak² a word in season to [him that is] weary: he wakeneth⁵⁵ morning by morning, he wakeneth⁵⁵ mine ear to hear² as the learned.

The Lord GOD hath opened¹ mine ear, and I was not rebellious,¹ neither turned away⁸ back.

I gave¹ my back to the smiters,⁵⁶ and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair:⁶ I hid⁵² not my face from shame and spitting.

For the Lord GOD will help⁴ me; therefore shall I not be confounded:⁸ therefore have I set¹ my face like a flint, and I know⁴ that I shall not be ashamed.⁴

[He is] near that justifieth⁵⁶ me; who will contend⁴ with me? let us stand⁴ together: who [is] mine adversary? ⁴⁹⁴¹ let him come near⁴ to me.

Behold, the Lord GOD will help⁴ me; who [is] he [that] shall condemn⁵⁵ me? lo, they all shall wax old⁴ as a garment; the moth shall eat⁴ them up.

Who [is] among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth⁶ the voice of his servant, that walketh¹ [in] darkness, and hath no light? let him trust⁴ in the name of the LORD, and stay¹¹ upon his God.

Behold, all ye that kindle⁶ a fire, that compass [yourselves] about¹⁸ with sparks: walk³ in the light of your fire, and in the sparks [that] ye have kindled.¹⁴ This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down⁴ in sorrow.
