Chapître 29

1

 He, that being often reproved hardeneth⁵⁶ [his] neck, shall suddenly be destroyed,¹¹ and that without remedy.

2

When the righteous are in authority,² the people rejoice:⁴ but when the wicked beareth rule,² the people mourn.¹¹

3

 Whoso loveth⁶ wisdom rejoiceth¹⁷ his father: but he that keepeth company⁶ with harlots⁶ spendeth¹⁷ [his] substance.

The king by judgment establisheth⁵⁵ the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth⁴ it.

A man that flattereth⁵⁶ his neighbour spreadeth⁶ a net for his feet.

In the transgression of an evil man [there is] a snare: but the righteous doth sing⁴ and rejoice.

The righteous considereth⁶ the cause of the poor: [but] the wicked regardeth⁴ not to know [it].

 Scornful men bring a city into a snare:⁵⁵ but wise [men] turn away⁵⁵ wrath.

[If] a wise man contendeth¹² with a foolish man, whether he rage¹ or laugh,¹ [there is] no rest.

The bloodthirsty ¹⁸¹⁸ hate⁴ the upright: but the just seek¹⁷ his soul.

11

A fool uttereth⁵⁵ all his mind: but a wise [man] keepeth¹⁷ it in till afterwards.

12

If a ruler⁶ hearken⁵⁶ to lies, ⁸²⁶⁷ all his servants¹⁸ [are] wicked.

The poor⁶ and the deceitful man meet⁸ together: the LORD lighteneth⁵⁶ both their eyes.

14

The king that faithfully judgeth⁶ the poor, his throne shall be established¹¹ for ever.

15

The rod and reproof give⁴ wisdom: but a child left³⁰ [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.⁵⁶

16

When the wicked are multiplied,² transgression increaseth:⁴ but the righteous shall see⁴ their fall.

17

 Correct¹⁶ thy son, and he shall give thee rest;⁵⁵ yea, he shall give⁴ delight unto thy soul.

18

Where [there is] no vision, the people perish:¹¹ but he that keepeth⁶ the law, happy [is] he.

19

A servant will not be corrected¹¹ by words: for though he understand⁴ he will not answer.

20

 Seest¹ thou a man [that is] hasty⁵ in his words? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.

21

He that delicately bringeth up¹⁸ his servant from a child shall have him become [his] son at the length.

22

An angry man stirreth up¹⁷ strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

23

A man's pride shall bring him low:⁵⁵ but honour shall uphold⁴ the humble in spirit.

24

Whoso is partner⁶ with a thief hateth⁶ his own soul: he heareth⁴ cursing, and bewrayeth⁵⁵ [it] not.

25

The fear of man bringeth⁴ a snare: but whoso putteth his trust⁶ in the LORD shall be safe.²⁹

26

 Many seek¹⁸ the ruler's⁶ favour; but [every] man's judgment [cometh] from the LORD.

27

An unjust man [is] an abomination to the just: and [he that is] upright in the way [is] abomination to the wicked.
