Chapître 22
- 1
- A [good] name [is] rather to be chosen12 than great riches, [and] loving favour rather than silver and gold.
- 2
- The rich and poor6 meet8 together: the LORD [is] the maker6 of them all.
- 3
- A prudent [man] foreseeth1 the evil, and hideth8 5641 4 himself: but the simple pass on,1 and are punished.8
- 4
- By humility [and] the fear of the LORD [are] riches, and honour, and life.
- 5
- Thorns [and] snares [are] in the way of the froward: he that doth keep6 his soul shall be far4 from them.
- 6
- Train up3 a child in the way he should go: and when he is old,55 he will not depart4 from it.
- 7
- The rich ruleth4 over the poor,6 and the borrower5 [is] servant to the lender.56
- 8
- He that soweth6 iniquity shall reap4 vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.4
- 9
- He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed;29 for he giveth1 of his bread to the poor.
- 10
- Cast out15 the scorner,5 and contention shall go out;4 yea, strife and reproach shall cease.4

- He that loveth6 pureness 2889 of heart, [for] the grace of his lips the king [shall be] his friend.

- The eyes of the LORD preserve1 knowledge, and he overthroweth17 the words of the transgressor.6
- 13
- The slothful [man] saith,1 [There is] a lion without, I shall be slain11 in the streets.
- 14
- The mouth of strange women5 [is] a deep pit: he that is abhorred7 of the LORD shall fall4 therein.
- 15
- Foolishness [is] bound7 in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far55 from him.
- 16
- He that oppresseth6 the poor to increase53 his [riches, and] he that giveth6 to the rich, [shall] surely [come] to want.
- 17
- Bow down54 thine ear, and hear3 the words of the wise, and apply4 thine heart unto my knowledge.
- 18
- For [it is] a pleasant thing if thou keep4 them within thee; they shall withal be fitted11 in thy lips.

- That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known52 to thee this day, even to thee.

- Have not I written1 to thee excellent things 8032 in counsels and knowledge,
- 21
- That I might make thee know53 the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer53 the words of truth to them that send6 unto thee?
- 22
- Rob4 not the poor, because he [is] poor: neither oppress17 the afflicted in the gate:
- 23
- For the LORD will plead4 their cause, and spoil1 the soul of those that spoiled6 them.
- 24
- Make no friendship101 with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:4
- 25
- Lest thou learn4 his ways, and get1 a snare to thy soul.
- 26
- Be not thou [one] of them that strike6 hands, [or] of them that are sureties6 for debts.
- 27
- If thou hast nothing to pay,15 why should he take away4 thy bed from under thee?

- Remove55 not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.1
- 29
- Seest1 thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand101 before kings; he shall not stand101 before mean [men].
