1: A false balance [is] abomination to the LORD: but a just weight [is] his delight.
2: [When] pride cometh,¹ then cometh⁴ shame: but with the lowly⁷ [is] wisdom.
3: The integrity of the upright shall guide⁵⁵ them: but the perverseness of transgressors⁶ shall destroy⁴ ⁷⁷⁰³ ¹ them.
4: Riches profit⁵⁵ not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth⁵⁵ from death.
5: The righteousness of the perfect shall direct¹⁷ his way: but the wicked shall fall⁴ by his own wickedness.
6: The righteousness of the upright shall deliver⁵⁵ them: but transgressors⁶ shall be taken¹¹ in [their own] naughtiness.
7: When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish:⁴ and the hope of unjust [men] perisheth.¹
8: The righteous is delivered⁸ out of trouble, and the wicked cometh⁴ in his stead.
9: An hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth⁵⁵ his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.¹¹
10: When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth:⁴ and when the wicked perish,² [there is] shouting.
11: By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted:⁴ but it is overthrown¹¹ by the mouth of the wicked.
12: He that is void of wisdom despiseth⁶ his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.⁵⁵
13: A talebearer⁶ ⁷⁴⁰⁰ revealeth¹⁸ secrets: but he that is of a faithful⁸ spirit concealeth¹⁸ the matter.
14: Where no counsel [is], the people fall:⁴ but in the multitude of counsellors⁶ [there is] safety.
15: He that is surety¹ for a stranger⁵ shall smart¹¹ ⁷⁴⁵¹ [for it]: and he that hateth⁶ suretiship⁶ is sure.⁶
16: A gracious woman retaineth⁴ honour: and strong [men] retain⁴ riches.
17: The merciful man doeth good⁶ to his own soul: but [he that is] cruel troubleth⁶ his own flesh.
18: The wicked worketh⁶ a deceitful work: but to him that soweth⁶ righteousness [shall be] a sure reward.
19: As righteousness [tendeth] to life: so he that pursueth¹⁸ evil [pursueth it] to his own death.
20: They that are of a froward heart [are] abomination to the LORD: but [such as are] upright in [their] way [are] his delight.
21: [Though] hand [join] in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished:¹¹ but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.⁸
22: [As] a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without⁶ discretion.
23: The desire of the righteous [is] only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked [is] wrath.
24: There is that scattereth,¹⁸ and yet increaseth;¹² and [there is] that withholdeth⁶ more than is meet, but [it tendeth] to poverty.
25: The liberal soul shall be made fat:²⁹ and he that watereth⁵⁶ shall be watered⁵⁵ also himself.
26: He that withholdeth⁶ corn, the people shall curse⁴ him: but blessing [shall be] upon the head of him that selleth⁵⁶ [it].
27: He that diligently seeketh⁶ good procureth¹⁷ favour: but he that seeketh⁶ mischief, it shall come⁴ unto him.
28: He that trusteth⁶ in his riches shall fall:⁴ but the righteous shall flourish⁴ as a branch.
29: He that troubleth⁶ his own house shall inherit⁴ the wind: and the fool [shall be] servant to the wise of heart.
30: The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life; and he that winneth⁶ souls [is] wise.
31: Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed²⁹ in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.⁶
