Chapître 37

1

[A Psalm] of David.
Fret¹⁰¹ not thyself because of evildoers,⁵⁶ neither be thou envious¹⁷ against the workers⁶ of iniquity.

2

For they shall soon be cut down⁴ like the grass, and wither⁴ as the green herb.

3

 Trust³ in the LORD, and do³ good; [so] shalt thou dwell³ in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.³

4

 Delight¹⁰⁰ thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give⁴ thee the desires of thine heart.

5

 Commit³ thy way unto the LORD; trust³ also in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.⁴

6

And he shall bring forth⁵² thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7

 Rest³ in the LORD, and wait patiently¹¹² for him: fret¹⁰¹ not thyself because of him who prospereth⁵⁶ in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.⁶

8

 Cease⁵⁴ from anger, and forsake³ wrath: fret¹⁰¹ not thyself in any wise to do evil.⁵³

9

For evildoers⁵⁶ shall be cut off:¹¹ but those that wait⁶ upon the LORD, they shall inherit⁴ the earth.

10

For yet a little while, and the wicked [shall] not [be]: yea, thou shalt diligently consider¹¹⁰ his place, and it [shall] not [be].

11

But the meek shall inherit⁴ the earth; and shall delight⁹⁸ themselves in the abundance of peace.

12

The wicked plotteth⁶ against the just, and gnasheth⁶ upon him with his teeth.

13

The Lord shall laugh⁴ at him: for he seeth¹ that his day is coming.⁴

14

The wicked have drawn out¹ the sword, and have bent¹ their bow, to cast down⁵³ the poor and needy, [and] to slay² such as be of upright conversation.

15

Their sword shall enter⁴ into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.¹¹

16

A little that a righteous man hath [is] better than the riches of many wicked.

17

For the arms of the wicked shall be broken:¹¹ but the LORD upholdeth⁶ the righteous.

18

The LORD knoweth⁶ the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

19

They shall not be ashamed⁴ in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.⁴

20

But the wicked shall perish,⁴ and the enemies⁶ of the LORD [shall be] as the fat of lambs: they shall consume;¹ into smoke shall they consume away.¹

21

The wicked borroweth,⁵ and payeth¹⁷ not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy,⁶ and giveth.⁶

22

For [such as be] blessed³⁰ of him shall inherit⁴ the earth; and [they that be] cursed³⁰ of him shall be cut off.¹¹

23

The steps of a [good] man are ordered⁴⁹ by the LORD: and he delighteth⁴ in his way.

24

Though he fall,⁴ he shall not be utterly cast down:⁹³ for the LORD upholdeth⁶ [him with] his hand.

25

I have been young, and [now] am old;¹ yet have I not seen¹ the righteous forsaken,¹² nor his seed begging¹⁸ bread.

26

[He is] ever ³¹¹⁷ merciful,⁶ and lendeth;⁵⁶ and his seed [is] blessed.

27

 Depart³ from evil, and do³ good; and dwell³ for evermore.

28

For the LORD loveth⁶ judgment, and forsaketh⁴ not his saints; they are preserved⁸ for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.⁸

29

The righteous shall inherit⁴ the land, and dwell⁴ therein for ever.

30

The mouth of the righteous speaketh⁴ wisdom, and his tongue talketh¹⁷ of judgment.

31

The law of his God [is] in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.⁴

32

The wicked watcheth⁶ the righteous, and seeketh¹⁸ to slay⁵³ him.

33

The LORD will not leave⁴ him in his hand, nor condemn⁵⁵ him when he is judged.⁹

34

 Wait¹⁶ on the LORD, and keep³ his way, and he shall exalt³⁴ thee to inherit² the land: when the wicked are cut off,⁹ thou shalt see⁴ [it].

35

I have seen¹ the wicked in great power, and spreading¹⁰² himself like a green bay tree.

36

Yet he passed away,⁴ and, lo, he [was] not: yea, I sought¹⁷ him, but he could not be found.⁸

37

 Mark³ the perfect [man], and behold³ the upright: for the end of [that] man [is] peace.

38

But the transgressors⁶ shall be destroyed⁸ together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.⁸

39

But the salvation of the righteous [is] of the LORD: [he is] their strength in the time of trouble.

40

And the LORD shall help⁴ them, and deliver¹⁷ them: he shall deliver¹⁷ them from the wicked, and save⁵⁵ them, because they trust¹ in him.
