Chapître 37

1

At this also my heart trembleth,⁴ and is moved⁴ out of his place.

2

 Hear³ attentively² the noise of his voice, and the sound [that] goeth out⁴ of his mouth.

3

He directeth^{14 8281 4} it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

4

 After it a voice roareth:⁴ he thundereth⁵⁵ with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay¹⁷ them when his voice is heard.¹¹

5

 God thundereth⁵⁵ marvellously¹² with his voice; great things doeth⁶ he, which we cannot comprehend.⁴

6

For he saith⁴ to the snow, Be³ thou [on] the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

7

He sealeth up⁴ the hand of every man; that all men may know² his work.

8

Then the beasts go⁴ into dens, and remain⁴ in their places.

9

Out of the south cometh⁴ the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

10

By the breath of God frost is given:⁴ and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

11

Also by watering he wearieth⁵⁵ the thick cloud: he scattereth⁵⁵ his bright cloud:

12

And it is turned¹⁰² round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth¹⁷ them upon the face of the world in the earth.

13

He causeth it to come,⁵⁵ whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

14

 Hearken⁵⁴ unto this, O Job: stand still,³ and consider¹¹² the wondrous works¹² of God.

15

Dost thou know⁴ when God disposed² them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?⁵²

16

Dost thou know⁴ the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

17

How thy garments [are] warm, when he quieteth⁵³ the earth by the south [wind]?

18

Hast thou with him spread out⁵⁵ the sky, [which is] strong, [and] as a molten⁹⁴ looking glass?

19

 Teach⁵⁴ us what we shall say⁴ unto him; [for] we cannot order⁴ [our speech] by reason of darkness.

20

Shall it be told²⁹ him that I speak?¹⁷ if a man speak,¹ surely he shall be swallowed up.²⁹

21

And now [men] see¹ not the bright light which [is] in the clouds: but the wind passeth,¹ and cleanseth¹⁷ them.

22

Fair weather cometh⁴ out of the north: with God [is] terrible¹² majesty.

23

[Touching] the Almighty, we cannot find him out:¹ [he is] excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.¹⁷

24

 Men do therefore fear¹ him: he respecteth⁴ not any [that are] wise of heart.
