Chapître 19

1

Then Job answered⁴ and said,⁴

2

How long will ye vex⁵⁵ my soul, and break¹⁷ me in pieces with words?

3

These ten times have ye reproached⁵⁵ me: ye are not ashamed⁴ [that] ye make yourselves strange⁵⁵ to me.

4

And be it indeed [that] I have erred,¹ mine error remaineth⁴ with myself.

5

If indeed ye will magnify⁵⁵ [yourselves] against me, and plead⁵⁵ against me my reproach:

6

 Know³ now that God hath overthrown¹⁴ me, and hath compassed⁵² me with his net.

7

Behold, I cry out⁴ of wrong, but I am not heard:¹¹ I cry aloud,¹⁷ but [there is] no judgment.

8

He hath fenced up¹ my way that I cannot pass,⁴ and he hath set⁴ darkness in my paths.

9

He hath stripped⁵² me of my glory, and taken⁵⁵ the crown [from] my head.

10

He hath destroyed⁴ me on every side, and I am gone:⁴ and mine hope hath he removed⁵⁵ like a tree.

11

He hath also kindled⁵⁵ his wrath against me, and he counteth⁴ me unto him as [one of] his enemies.

12

His troops come⁴ together, and raise up⁴ their way against me, and encamp⁴ round about my tabernacle.

13

He hath put my brethren far⁵² from me, and mine acquaintance⁶ are verily estranged¹ from me.

14

My kinsfolk have failed,¹ and my familiar friends³⁰ have forgotten¹ me.

15

They that dwell⁶ in mine house, and my maids, count⁴ me for a stranger:⁵ I am an alien in their sight.

16

I called¹ my servant, and he gave [me] no answer;⁴ I intreated¹⁰¹ him with my mouth.

17

My breath is strange¹ to my wife, though I intreated² for the children's [sake] of mine own body.

18

Yea, young children despised¹ me; I arose,⁴ and they spake¹⁷ against me.

19

All my inward friends abhorred¹⁴ me: and they whom I loved¹ are turned⁸ against me.

20

My bone cleaveth¹ to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped¹⁰¹ with the skin of my teeth.

21

Have pity³ upon me, have pity³ upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched¹ me.

22

Why do ye persecute⁴ me as God, and are not satisfied⁴ with my flesh?

23

Oh that⁴ my words were now written!¹¹ oh that⁴ they were printed⁹³ in a book!

24

That they were graven¹¹ with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

25

For I know¹ [that] my redeemer⁶ liveth, and [that] he shall stand⁴ at the latter [day] upon the earth:

26

And [though] after my skin [worms] destroy¹⁴ this [body], yet in my flesh shall I see⁴ God:

27

Whom I shall see⁴ for myself, and mine eyes shall behold,¹ and not another;⁵ [though] my reins be consumed¹ within me.

28

But ye should say,⁴ Why persecute⁴ we him, seeing the root of the matter is found⁸ in me?

29

Be ye afraid³ of the sword: for wrath [bringeth] the punishments of the sword, that ye may know⁴ [there is] a judgment. ¹⁷⁷⁹
