Chapître 10

1

My soul is weary¹ of my life; I will leave⁴ my complaint upon myself; I will speak¹⁷ in the bitterness of my soul.

2

I will say⁴ unto God, Do not condemn⁵⁵ me; shew⁵⁴ me wherefore thou contendest⁴ with me.

3

[Is it] good¹ unto thee that thou shouldest oppress,⁴ that thou shouldest despise⁴ the work of thine hands, and shine⁵² upon the counsel of the wicked?

Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest⁴ thou as man seeth?²

5

[Are] thy days as the days of man? [are] thy years as man's days,

6

That thou enquirest¹⁷ after mine iniquity, and searchest⁴ after my sin?

7

Thou knowest that I am not wicked;⁴ and [there is] none that can deliver⁵⁶ out of thine hand.

8

Thine hands have made¹⁴ me and fashioned⁴ me together round about; yet thou dost destroy¹⁷ me.

9

 Remember,³ I beseech thee, that thou hast made¹ me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?⁵⁵

10

Hast thou not poured me out⁵⁵ as milk, and curdled⁵⁵ me like cheese?

11

Thou hast clothed⁵⁵ me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced³⁴ me with bones and sinews.

12

Thou hast granted¹ me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved¹ my spirit.

13

And these [things] hast thou hid¹ in thine heart: I know¹ that this [is] with thee.

14

If I sin,¹ then thou markest¹ me, and thou wilt not acquit¹⁷ me from mine iniquity.

15

If I be wicked,¹ woe unto me; and [if] I be righteous,¹ [yet] will I not lift up⁴ my head. [I am] full of confusion; therefore see thou mine affliction;

16

For it increaseth.⁴ Thou huntest⁴ me as a fierce lion: and again⁴ thou shewest thyself marvellous¹⁰¹ upon me.

17

Thou renewest¹⁷ thy witnesses against me, and increasest⁵⁵ thine indignation upon me; changes and war [are] against me.

18

Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth⁵² out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost,⁴ and no eye had seen⁴ me!

19

I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried⁹³ from the womb to the grave.

20

[Are] not my days few? cease^{3 2308 4} [then, and] let^{3 7896 4} me alone, that I may take comfort⁵⁵ a little,

21

Before I go⁴ [whence] I shall not return,⁴ [even] to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;

22

A land of darkness, as darkness [itself; and] of the shadow of death, without any order, and [where] the light⁵⁵ [is] as darkness.
