Chapître 14

1
Now Hiram 2361 king of Tyre sent4 messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons 7023 and carpenters, 6086 to build2 him an house.

2
And David perceived4 that the LORD had confirmed52 him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up8 on high, because of his people Israel.

3
And David took4 more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat55 more sons and daughters.

4
Now these [are] the names of [his] children7 which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

5
And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,

6
And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

7
And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

8
And when the Philistines heard4 that David was anointed8 king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up4 to seek15 David. And David heard4 [of it], and went out4 against them.

9
And the Philistines came1 and spread4 themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

10
And David enquired4 of God, saying,2 Shall I go up4 against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver1 them into mine hand? And the LORD said4 unto him, Go up;3 for I will deliver1 them into thine hand.

11
So they came up4 to Baalperazim; and David smote55 them there. Then David said,4 God hath broken in1 upon mine enemies6 by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called1 the name of that place Baalperazim.

12
And when they had left4 their gods there, David gave a commandment,4 and they were burned11 with fire.

13
And the Philistines yet again55 spread themselves abroad4 in the valley.

14
Therefore David enquired4 again of God; and God said4 unto him, Go not up4 after them; turn away54 from them, and come1 upon them over against the mulberry trees.

15
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear2 a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, [that] then thou shalt go out4 to battle: for God is gone forth1 before thee to smite53 the host of the Philistines.

16
David therefore did4 as God commanded14 him: and they smote55 the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

17
And the fame of David went out4 into all lands; and the LORD brought1 the fear of him upon all nations.
