Chapître 26

1

Ye shall make⁴ you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up⁵⁵ a standing image, neither shall ye set⁴ up [any] image of stone in your land, to bow down⁹⁹ unto it: for I [am] the LORD your God.

2

Ye shall keep⁴ my sabbaths, and reverence⁴ my sanctuary: I [am] the LORD.

3

If ye walk⁴ in my statutes, and keep⁴ my commandments, and do¹ them;

4

Then I will give¹ you rain in due season, and the land shall yield¹ her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield⁴ their fruit.

5

And your threshing shall reach⁵² unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach⁵⁵ unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat¹ your bread to the full, and dwell¹ in your land safely.

6

And I will give¹ peace in the land, and ye shall lie down,¹ and none shall make [you] afraid:⁵⁶ and I will rid⁵² evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go⁴ through your land.

7

And ye shall chase¹ your enemies,⁶ and they shall fall¹ before you by the sword.

8

And five of you shall chase¹ an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight:⁴ and your enemies⁶ shall fall¹ before you by the sword.

9

For I will have respect¹ unto you, and make you fruitful,⁵² and multiply⁵² you, and establish⁵² my covenant with you.

10

And ye shall eat¹ old store,¹² and bring forth⁵⁵ the old because of the new.

11

And I will set¹ my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor⁴ you.

12

And I will walk⁹⁸ among you, and will be⁴ your God, and ye shall be⁴ my people.

13

I [am] the LORD your God, which brought you forth⁵² out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken⁴ the bands of your yoke, and made you go⁵⁵ upright.

14

But if ye will not hearken⁴ unto me, and will not do⁴ all these commandments;

15

And if ye shall despise⁴ my statutes, or if your soul abhor⁴ my judgments, so that ye will not do² all my commandments, [but] that ye break⁵³ my covenant:

16

I also will do⁴ this unto you; I will even appoint⁵² over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume¹⁸ the eyes, and cause sorrow⁵⁶ of heart: and ye shall sow¹ your seed in vain, for your enemies⁶ shall eat¹ it.

17

And I will set¹ my face against you, and ye shall be slain⁸ before your enemies:⁶ they that hate⁶ you shall reign¹ over you; and ye shall flee¹ when none pursueth⁶ you.

18

And if ye will not yet for all this hearken⁴ unto me, then I will punish¹⁵ you seven times more¹ for your sins.

19

And I will break¹ the pride of your power; and I will make¹ your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

20

And your strength shall be spent¹ in vain: for your land shall not yield⁴ her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield⁴ their fruits.

21

And if ye walk⁴ contrary unto me, and will⁴ not hearken² unto me; I will bring seven times more¹ plagues upon you according to your sins.

22

I will also send⁵² wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children,¹⁴ and destroy⁵² your cattle, and make you few in number;⁵² and your [high] ways shall be desolate.⁸

23

And if ye will not be reformed¹¹ by me by these things, but will walk¹ contrary unto me;

24

Then will I also walk¹ contrary unto you, and will punish⁵² you yet seven times for your sins.

25

And I will bring⁵² a sword upon you, that shall avenge⁶ the quarrel of [my] covenant: and when ye are gathered⁸ together within your cities, I will send¹⁴ the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered⁸ into the hand of the enemy.⁶

[And] when I have broken² the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake¹ your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver [you] your bread again⁵² by weight: and ye shall eat,¹ and not be satisfied.⁴

27

And if ye will not for all this hearken⁴ unto me, but walk¹ contrary unto me;

28

Then I will walk¹ contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise¹⁴ you seven times for your sins.

29

And ye shall eat¹ the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.⁴

30

And I will destroy⁵² your high places, and cut down⁵² your images, and cast¹ your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor¹ you.

31

And I will make¹ your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation,⁵² and I will not smell⁵⁵ the savour of your sweet odours.

32

And I will bring the land into desolation:⁵² and your enemies⁶ which dwell⁶ therein shall be astonished¹ at it.

33

And I will scatter¹⁷ you among the heathen, and will draw out⁵² a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

34

Then shall the land enjoy⁴ her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate,⁹¹ and ye [be] in your enemies'⁶ land; [even] then shall the land rest,⁴ and enjoy⁵² her sabbaths.

35

As long as it lieth desolate⁹¹ it shall rest;⁴ because it did not rest¹ in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt² upon it.

36

And upon them that are left¹² [alive] of you I will send⁵² a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies;⁶ and the sound of a shaken¹² leaf shall chase¹ them; and they shall flee,¹ as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall¹ when none pursueth.⁶

37

And they shall fall¹ one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth:⁶ and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.⁶

38

And ye shall perish¹ among the heathen, and the land of your enemies⁶ shall eat¹ you up.

39

And they that are left¹² of you shall pine away¹¹ in their iniquity in your enemies'⁶ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away¹¹ with them.

40

If they shall confess⁹⁸ their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed¹ against me, and that also they have walked¹ contrary unto me;

41

And [that] I also have walked⁴ contrary unto them, and have brought⁵² them into the land of their enemies;⁶ if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled,¹¹ and they then accept⁴ of the punishment of their iniquity:

42

Then will I remember¹ my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember;⁴ and I will remember⁴ the land.

43

The land also shall be left¹¹ of them, and shall enjoy⁴ her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate⁹¹ without them: and they shall accept⁴ of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised¹ my judgments, and because their soul abhorred¹ my statutes.

44

And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies,⁶ I will not cast them away,¹ neither will I abhor¹ them, to destroy them utterly,¹⁵ and to break⁵³ my covenant with them: for I [am] the LORD their God.

45

But I will for their sakes remember¹ the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth⁵² out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I [am] the LORD.

46

These [are] the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made¹ between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
