Le deuxième Livre de Moïse, appelé Exode
Chapître 2
- 1
- And there went4 a man of the house of Levi, and took4 [to wife] a daughter of Levi.
- 2
- And the woman conceived,4 and bare4 a son: and when she saw4 him that he [was a] goodly [child], she hid4 him three months.
- 3
- And when she could1 not longer hide53 him, she took4 for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed4 it with slime and with pitch, and put4 the child therein; and she laid4 [it] in the flags by the river's brink.
- 4
- And his sister stood101 afar off, to wit2 what would be done11 to him.
- 5
- And the daughter of Pharaoh came down4 to wash2 [herself] at the river; and her maidens walked6 along by the river's side; and when she saw4 the ark among the flags, she sent4 her maid to fetch4 it.
- 6
- And when she had opened4 [it], she saw4 the child: and, behold, the babe wept.6 And she had compassion4 on him, and said,4 This [is one] of the Hebrews' children.
- 7
- Then said4 his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go4 and call1 to thee a nurse 3243 56 of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse55 the child for thee?
- 8
- And Pharaoh's daughter said4 to her, Go.3 And the maid went4 and called4 the child's mother.
- 9
- And Pharaoh's daughter said4 unto her, Take54 this child away, and nurse54 it for me, and I will give4 [thee] thy wages. And the woman took4 the child, and nursed55 it.
- 10
- And the child grew,4 and she brought55 him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called4 his name Moses: and she said,4 Because I drew1 him out of the water.
- 11
- And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown,4 that he went out4 unto his brethren, and looked4 on their burdens: and he spied4 an Egyptian 376 smiting56 an Hebrew, 376 one of his brethren.
- 12
- And he looked4 this way and that way, and when he saw4 that [there was] no man, he slew55 the Egyptian, and hid4 him in the sand.
- 13
- And when he went out4 the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove12 together: and he said4 to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest55 thou thy fellow?
- 14
- And he said,4 Who made1 thee a prince and a judge6 over us? intendest6 thou to kill2 me, as thou killedst1 the Egyptian? And Moses feared,4 and said,4 Surely this thing is known.8
- 15
- Now when Pharaoh heard4 this thing, he sought17 to slay2 Moses. But Moses fled4 from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt4 in the land of Midian: and he sat down4 by a well.
- 16
- Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came4 and drew4 [water], and filled17 the troughs to water53 their father's flock.
- 17
- And the shepherds6 came4 and drove them away:17 but Moses stood up4 and helped55 them, and watered55 their flock.
- 18
- And when they came4 to Reuel their father, he said,4 How [is it that] ye are come2 so soon14 to day?
- 19
- And they said,4 An Egyptian 376 delivered52 us out of the hand of the shepherds,6 and also drew1 [water] enough2 for us, and watered55 the flock.
- 20
- And he said4 unto his daughters, And where [is] he? why [is] it [that] ye have left1 the man? call3 him, that he may eat4 bread.
- 21
- And Moses was content55 to dwell2 with the man: and he gave4 Moses Zipporah his daughter.
- 22
- And she bare4 [him] a son, and he called4 his name Gershom: for he said,1 I have been a stranger in a strange land.
- 23
- And it came to pass in process 7227 of time, that the king of Egypt died:4 and the children of Israel sighed11 by reason of the bondage, and they cried,4 and their cry came up4 unto God by reason of the bondage.
- 24
- And God heard4 their groaning, and God remembered4 his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
- 25
- And God looked4 upon the children of Israel, and God had respect4 unto [them].
