Le premier Livre de Moïse, appelé Genèse
Chapître 50
- 1
- And Joseph fell4 upon his father's face, and wept4 upon him, and kissed4 him.
- 2
- And Joseph commanded17 his servants the physicians6 to embalm2 his father: and the physicians6 embalmed4 Israel.
- 3
- And forty days were fulfilled4 for him; for so are fulfilled4 the days of those which are embalmed:7 and the Egyptians mourned4 for him threescore and ten days.
- 4
- And when the days of his mourning were past,4 Joseph spake17 unto the house of Pharaoh, saying,2 If now I have found1 grace in your eyes, speak,16 I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,2
- 5
- My father made me swear,52 saying,2 Lo, I die:5 in my grave which I have digged1 for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury4 me. Now therefore let me go up,4 I pray thee, and bury4 my father, and I will come again.4
- 6
- And Pharaoh said,4 Go up,3 and bury3 thy father, according as he made thee swear.52
- 7
- And Joseph went up4 to bury2 his father: and with him went up4 all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
- 8
- And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left1 in the land of Goshen.
- 9
- And there went up4 with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.
- 10
- And they came4 to the threshingfloor of Atad, which [is] beyond Jordan, and there they mourned4 with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made4 a mourning for his father seven days.
- 11
- And when the inhabitants6 of the land, the Canaanites, saw4 the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said,4 This [is] a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called1 Abelmizraim, which [is] beyond Jordan.
- 12
- And his sons did4 unto him according as he commanded14 them:
- 13
- For his sons carried4 him into the land of Canaan, and buried4 him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought1 with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.
- 14
- And Joseph returned4 into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up6 with him to bury2 his father, after he had buried2 his father.
- 15
- And when Joseph's brethren saw4 that their father was dead,1 they said,4 Joseph will peradventure hate4 us, and will certainly53 requite55 us all the evil which we did1 unto him.
- 16
- And they sent a messenger17 unto Joseph, saying,2 Thy father did command14 before he died, saying,2
- 17
- So shall ye say4 unto Joseph, Forgive,3 I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did1 unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive3 the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept4 when they spake15 unto him.
- 18
- And his brethren also went4 and fell down4 before his face; and they said,4 Behold, we [be] thy servants.
- 19
- And Joseph said4 unto them, Fear4 not: for [am] I in the place of God?
- 20
- But as for you, ye thought1 evil against me; [but] God meant it1 unto good, to bring to pass,2 as [it is] this day, to save much people alive.53
- 21
- Now therefore fear4 ye not: I will nourish46 you, and your little ones. And he comforted17 them, and spake17 kindly unto them.
- 22
- And Joseph dwelt4 in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived4 an hundred and ten years.
- 23
- And Joseph saw4 Ephraim's children of the third [generation]: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up27 upon Joseph's knees.
- 24
- And Joseph said4 unto his brethren, I die:5 and God will surely2 visit4 you, and bring52 you out of this land unto the land which he sware8 to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
- 25
- And Joseph took an oath55 of the children of Israel, saying,2 God will surely2 visit4 you, and ye shall carry up52 my bones from hence.
- 26
- So Joseph died,4 [being] an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed4 him, and he was put4 in a coffin in Egypt.
